Review of the Highscreen Power Ice smartphone: an exemplary budget phone. Highscreen Power Ice - Reviews and detailed technical specifications Information about the dimensions and weight of the device, presented in different units of measurement. Materials used, offered by color

Russian brand Highscreen, company-owned Vobis Computer is known for smartphones that can go for a long time without recharging. The devices are inexpensive, their design is universal, and there are many models.

Recently Highscreen released Smartphone Power Ice. Buyers were interested in the model: budget smartphone With big battery- a rational proposal. But many noted that Power Ice does not have enough power for the most modern games, and they would like a larger screen.

The developers took this into account and introduced Highscreen Power Ice Max. It includes a decent capacity battery and can last for several days without recharging. In addition, the smartphone has high performance and 4G Internet support. By the way, the adapter here is LTE Cat.6 (LTE Advanced), which means that even where the channel is overloaded, the smartphone will provide a stable high-speed Internet connection. Another difference between Power Ice Max and Power Ice is the metal case, but first things first.

The Highscreen Power Ice Max body is made of aluminum alloy. It's durable, yet lightweight, and has a matte finish that resists fingerprints. In the center is a large Highscreen logo: today, owners are proud of smartphones from this brand, because they are really good and do not require you to constantly be near a power outlet.

The camera and flash are “recessed” into the body - this is a definite plus of the design, as it minimizes the likelihood of mechanical damage to fragile elements. For the same reason, the manufacturer did not use 2.5D glass. There is a rigid metal frame around the perimeter of the case; if the smartphone falls on the edge or end, the chances of avoiding damage are very high. In a word, the new device is “well tailored and tightly sewn.”

The Highscreen Power Ice Max has a standard set of connectors – microUSB for charging and synchronization, 3.5 mm for headphones and other accessories. The back cover is not removable. There are two separate slots: on the right for a microSD memory card, on the left for two SIM cards. The volume rocker and power key are located on the right side. There are also three traditional keys below the screen - “Back”, “Home” and “Menu”.

Highscreen Power Ice has a screen diagonal of 5 inches, while Highscreen Power Ice Max has increased it to 5.3 inches. Resolution – 1280 × 720 pixels, density – 277 dpi.

The IPS matrix provides rich colors and wide viewing angles – 178 degrees. You can watch a movie or play on your smartphone in almost any position - the colors do not fade. Under the bright sun rays The screen also performed well - of course, the colors are slightly distorted, but the text remains readable.

In-cell technology was used to create the screen. This reduced the thickness of the display, and the smartphone as a whole. This means more space is left for other components – in this case, the battery. Screen covered protective glass Asahi Glass Dragontail. It is cheaper than Gorilla Glass, but has proven itself well.

Performance

The smartphone is powered by an 8-core MediaTek MT6750 processor with a frequency of up to 1.5 GHz. It is very productive, very energy efficient, and relatively inexpensive. The Highscreen Power Ice Max has as much as 3 GB of RAM, which is enough to run the latest games. The volume of permanent memory is 32 GB: impressive, but if you need more space for photos, videos, music and other files, there is a separate (we repeat - not a hybrid) slot for microSD cards capacity up to 128 GB.

IN standard applications Highscreen Power Ice Max does not slow down, everything switches very quickly and smoothly. HD video can also be watched without any complaints - both from memory and on Internet services like YouTube. The smartphone comes with almost pure Android 6.0 and a set of applications relevant for Russian users.

Autonomy

The battery capacity of Highscreen Power Ice Max is 4000 mAh, one and a half to two times more than the average smartphone for the same money. The charge is enough for 11-12 hours of watching videos, 7-8 hours of surfing the Internet and 6-7 hours of resource-demanding games like World of Tanks Blitz or Asphalt 8. In general, the smartphone lasts 2-3 days without recharging with average usage.

An important point: the Highscreen Power Ice Max battery is lithium-polymer. Unlike lithium-ion options, it practically does not lose energy when the temperature drops and does not have a “memory effect” - even with frequent recharging “not from 0 to 100%”, the capacity does not decrease. In addition, lithium-polymer batteries are more compact than lithium-ion batteries - it is this quality that makes it possible to fit a 4000 mAh battery into an 8.2 mm thick case.

Highscreen Power Ice Max supports fast charging. From network charger, designed for a current of 2 A (usually smartphones are charged with a current of 0.7-1 A), Highscreen Power Ice Max can be fully charged in three hours.

And from Highscreen Power Ice Max you can replenish the energy of another smartphone or other gadget. The kit includes an OTG cable with microUSB and USB connectors - the first connects to Highscreen Power Ice Max, the second to the device you want to charge.

The Highscreen Power Ice Max camera set is standard for a strong average player. The main camera has a resolution of 13 megapixels and f/2.2 aperture, equipped with a flash and autofocus function. The photo quality is high during the day, in the evening – average.

The smartphone supports Full HD video recording at speeds up to 30 frames per second. In addition, there are modes for shooting time lapse, creating animated GIF images, scanning QR codes, text, etc. Note manual mode shooting, which is in the proprietary “Camera” application. Here, on two “floating” circles, you can adjust all the basic parameters to improve the quality of the photo.

The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels and a lens with a fixed focal length. She's set to take selfies at arm's length. There is no LED flash, like most models, but there is a screen flash - the brightness of the display over the entire area is set to maximum for a short time to improve shooting results. The pictures come out good, they can be further improved with built-in software and filters. For example, there is automatic retouching that removes facial skin defects in real time.

Communications

Many mid-range smartphones operate on 4G/LTE networks, however new technology LTE Advanced (aka LTE Cat.6 or 4G+) is supported by a few. Highscreen Power Ice Max is one of them: if the network allows, it is capable of providing Internet access at speeds of up to 300 Mb/s. Moreover, in places with weak, unstable reception, owners of Highscreen Power Ice Max will benefit - the smartphone will allow you to stay in touch, not interrupt downloads, watch online videos and participate in virtual battles. And even if 4G+ is not available everywhere in Moscow yet, this is a good foundation for the future.

Of course, the smartphone also works in Wi-Fi networks 802.11 b/g/n. Bluetooth 4.0+ EDR is also supported for connecting a headset and other accessories. It will be convenient to use Highscreen Power Ice Max as a navigator. A “cold” GPS start takes 10 seconds, a “hot” start is almost instantaneous. GLONASS is also supported.

Therefore, the first thing we naturally wanted to do was try out the killer feature declared by the manufacturer. Have you ever seen one smartphone charging another smartphone?

To implement this functionality, an OTG adapter was included in the Power Ice kit, and the smartphone itself was equipped with a non-removable lithium polymer battery at 4,000 mAh. This is not to say that charging happens quickly, but damn it, it happens! The speed of filling the battery strip of the donor smartphone is comparable to standard charging from an adapter with an output current of 1 A.

Power Ice's own operating time indicators are quite consistent with the battery capacity. To discharge it in a day, it took us many hours of non-stop online video playback at maximum screen brightness. This scenario for using a mobile phone is of little use in real life, and under standard operating mode - browsing, instant messengers, etc. - the smartphone loses no more than 35–40% of its charge per day.

When talking about battery capacity, it is worth taking into account the dimensions of Power Ice. Still, this is not a chubby shovel-phablet, but a completely standard 5-inch smartphone by modern standards, and quite thin. The case thickness is only 8.5 millimeters, and Highscreen engineers managed to fit everything they need into them.

The Power Ice hardware is not top-end, but it is capable of running all current applications and not too demanding games. Inside the smartphone there is a quad-core MediaTek MT6735, Mali T-720 graphics, 2 GB random access memory and 16 GB expandable storage via microSD slot.

Power Ice is a dual-SIM game. 4G support is available, and given the manufacturer’s focus on the Russian market, you don’t have to worry about supporting certain LTE frequencies no need at all. Other types of communication: Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, GLONASS.

If you remember the price of the device, then you can’t get out of your head the constant expectation of a catch. Well, what did the manufacturer save the most on? In fact, Power Ice has no obvious weak points, and some of its seemingly understated characteristics are compensated for by other technological bells and whistles. For example, the main camera has a resolution of only 8 megapixels. Few? Perhaps, if you are planning to do a lot of smartphone photography, but there is a pretty decent 6-lens optics with a smart filter that allows you to get better pictures in unfavorable lighting.

TO front camera no complaints at all. 5 MP is more than enough for both selfies and video calls.

The Power Ice screen is not Full HD, but IPS. With a diagonal of 5 inches and a resolution of 1,280 × 720, the ppi indicator is still close to Retina, and you are unlikely to be able to see the pixels on the screen at the standard distance of the smartphone from your eyes.

The operating system is almost unchanged stock Android 5.1 Lollipop.

At the end of this short review, I would like to return once again to the Power Ice case and note the quality and materials of its design. Fortunately, gone are the days when a budget-friendly smartphone was achieved by using the cheapest nasty plastic combined with frankly no assembly. In this case, everything is in order with the case.

The back panel of Power Ice is made of metal, the front panel is completely covered with scratch-resistant glass. Most likely, this is Gorilla Glass 3. The smartphone fits well in the hand, and there is no creaking or play when you try to squeeze it. The buttons fit precisely and do not wobble.

Not long ago, Lifehacker published a post claiming that modern smartphone Shouldn't cost more than $100. Considering that the price of Highscreen Power Ice is only $19 higher than the “standard”, but the device itself has quite impressive characteristics and unique feature charging other devices, it turns out quite decent smartphone without overpaying for a well-known brand. What do you think?

Our review: Highscreen Power Ice Max - a productive long-liver in a classic design

Today, as part of the “Our Review” section, we will talk about the smartphone. This is no longer a new product, but nevertheless deserves attention. The manufacturer “awarded” the gadget enough powerful battery, big screen 5.3 inches diagonal, as well as quite interesting filling.

Appearance, packaging and assembly

Package includes: USB cable, warranty card, charger, screen protector, headphones, OTG cable, SIM card ejector (aka paper clip), there should also be a plastic case, but the smartphone arrived without it for our test.

Appearance Highscreen Power Ice Max is the most classic, even old school. Rectangular shape, strict lines, metal back panel and gold color, or rather copper-gold.

The front panel is completely covered with protective glass Asahi Glass Dragontrail with a protective edge along the edge, while there are visually no side frames to the right and left of the black rectangle of the screen. However, when you turn on the screen, it turns out that the display itself inside this black rectangle is 2-3mm from its edges. The solution is interesting and successful, we give it a plus; with the backlight off, the frames and the display itself are almost identical in color. At the top there is a speaker, camera and sensors.

At the bottom there are three hardware buttons (again old school), which the manufacturer decided not to illuminate, which creates inconvenience when using the smartphone in the dark.

Back panel Highscreen Power Ice Max is almost entirely made of metal, painted with matte paint, there are plastic inserts in the top and lower parts, covering wireless modules. The camera and flash are located on top.

At the bottom is the speaker grille. A slightly outdated and impractical solution, because... if the smartphone is lying face up, the speaker is closed and its audibility is reduced by almost half and you can hardly hear it in a noisy room. Perhaps the manufacturer assumed that since there is a protective edge on the front panel, the user will place the smartphone face down.

The side edges are also made in a classic style, with slightly rounded edges. Each edge is additionally highlighted with glossy gold inserts, and when the smartphone is lying down, each edge sparkles in the light. The volume and power buttons have the same effect.

On the left side there is a tray for two micro-SIM cards, and on the right there is a tray for micro-SD, a volume rocker and a power button.

At the top there is a headphone jack and an infrared port.

Bottom - standard Micro USB- output and microphone.

As for the build quality, there are no complaints or questions to the manufacturer. The smartphone is built well, looks and feels complete, and is pleasant to hold in your hands.

Despite its considerable dimensions - 149 x 73.2 x 8.2 mm and noticeable weight - 176g. The device lies securely in a woman’s hand, and even more so in a man’s hand. The painted parts of the smartphone do not create a feeling of high cost or premium quality, however, the appearance can be called pleasant and memorable. Strict features and classic design distinguish Power Ice Max from most modern smartphones.

Screen

The screen diagonal is 5.3 inches. The display resolution of Power Ice Max from Highscreen is HD, 720x1280 pixels, aspect ratio - 16:9, density - 293 pixels per inch. The IPS matrix without an air gap is made using InCell technology - fewer layers, less reflection and refraction of light on them. The display demonstrates good picture quality, natural color reproduction and a wide range of backlight adjustments. Auto backlight level works well.

Viewing angles are large, but there is a slight inversion when tilted; colors fade into a purple tint.

There is anti-reflective and oleophobic coating, but rather conditionally. The smartphone still collects fingers and there is a constant desire to wipe it. As for the anti-glare, in my opinion everything is fine with it. Personally, I felt quite comfortable using my smartphone in the sun.

The touchscreen supports multi-touch up to 10 simultaneous touches and works very accurately and with pleasant smoothness.

Considering all of the above, we can confidently consider the screen another strong point smartphone, despite the lack of FullHD resolution.

Cameras

Equipped with a main 13-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, the optics have an aperture of F2.2.

The camera application has quite a lot of functionality and convenient controls.

There is a whole set interesting modes shooting, such as time-lapse, GIF, business card scanner or imitation of Polaroid photo cards.

The settings are located in a separate item in the left panel.

There are also ready-made filters with preview capabilities.

In addition, there is a “Manual” mode, which gives the owner access to almost all possible settings shooting - ISO, Shutter speed, white balance, exposure, focus.

As for the quality of the pictures, it is at an average level. In good lighting you can get good pictures with good detail. At the same time, the quality of images can vary greatly under the same conditions. Focusing is also not very fast or accurate.

As the quality of lighting deteriorates, detail is lost, noise appears, and problems with color rendering appear.

In the evening, aggressive noise reduction is noticeable.

HDR shows average performance. The exposure across the frame is leveled out, but without outstanding results.

The front 5-megapixel camera has a fixed focus, and based on this alone it is difficult to count on good selfies. This is more of a conference call camera.

The smartphone can record video with FullHD resolution and 30 frames per second. The video quality is not impressive; noise and blurring are noticeable, and the colors are noticeably distorted.

Bottom line: the camera’s photo capabilities are at an average level, I can’t classify them as either strong or weaknesses smartphone. In good lighting, you can get decent quality pictures, but nothing more. At the same time, I was pleased with the camera application.

Sound

Equipped with one external speaker located at the bottom of the rear panel. It sounds relatively loud and readable; at maximum volume the sound shifts noticeably towards high frequencies. However, if you turn your smartphone face up, you may not be able to hear the call from a distance, because The speaker is completely covered.

The sound in standard headphones was surprising, and pleasant. I can’t call the sound excellent, it is more than acceptable, high frequencies sound more than necessary, but the problem can be solved with standard enhancers. At the same time, the headphones have well-readable bass and mid frequencies.

In professional monitor headphones, the smartphone showed decent results for a middle-class smartphone. You can listen to music quite comfortably.

The pre-installed software includes a proprietary music player. The player settings include an equalizer and ready-made presets.

The speaker and microphone did not cause any complaints or complaints - here the Power Ice Max is doing well.

Software

Equipped with almost “naked” Android 6.0 Marshmallow (you can read more about marshmallows in our review) and several proprietary applications. These include a player, a dialer, an application for sending messages, an application for controlling home appliances.

Additionally, you can configure a “floating” button, which will duplicate the functionality touch buttons, lock the screen, switch between “one-handed” and standard interface mode. The function of recognizing gestures and setting the smartphone to turn on and off according to a schedule is supported.

Hardware and performance

Powered by an eight-core MediaTek MT6750 chipset clocked at 1.5 GHz. Mali T-860 graphics chipset with support for Open GL ES 3.0 and Open CL 1.2 API. RAM 3GB. A filling worthy of modern standards will provide sufficient performance for all possible tasks. The smartphone works quickly, without lag, and there were no performance issues in any applications. There are no problems with tasks such as playback of FullHD video and streaming video.

As for 3D games, everything is also at a sufficient level with them. The coolest games at maximum graphics settings will, of course, slow down, but if you lower the graphics settings, you can comfortably play games such as Asphalt 8, Dead Trigger 2, World of Tanks.

The built-in permanent memory in the smartphone is 32GB, and this volume can be increased using a MicroSD card without sacrificing a second SIM card.

Benchmark tests also show good results.

Communications and Wireless

Two microSIMs work with one radio module in Standby mode; in the settings, you select the main SIM card that will work with 4G/3G networks. The set of 4G frequency bands contains the most popular in Russia - FDD-LTE Band 3 (1,800 MHz), Band 7 (2,600 MHz) and Band 20 (800 MHz), as well as TDD (Band 28).

In addition, there is a Wi-Fi module 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz), Bluetooth 4.0 interface.

There are two world satellites for positioning and navigation. GPS systems(with A-GPS support) and GLONASS.

Highscreen Power Ice Max did not have any problems with the quality of wireless interfaces and geopositioning; after starting on a cold basis, the device almost instantly determines its location.

The smartphone also has an FM receiver, which has become a rarity now. A MicroUSB connector with OTG support allows you to connect external USB devices - a flash drive, mouse, keyboard - to your smartphone via the supplied cord, and also use your smartphone as a charger. But for some reason the XBox joystick was not recognized.

Work and autonomy

The smartphone is equipped with a powerful 4000 mAh battery by modern standards. Support for the function is also announced fast charging. With a standard charger, the smartphone is charged to 100% in about 3 hours.

According to the manufacturer, the Highscreen Power Ice Max smartphone can operate for 12 hours in talk mode and 15 days in standby mode. In economical use mode: periodically connecting to WIFI, Internet surfing, video shooting and “walking around” (oh, let me see what a cute smartphone) the device lived for 5 days, five... With maximum intensive use, the smartphone still lasts at least a full working day day. The result is impressive, especially considering the fact that you can additionally install adaptive settings and battery optimization. For a long time battery life The smartphone's performance is explained by its low-frequency processor (maximum frequency 1.5 GHz), screen resolution, and powerful battery.

One more interesting feature The smartphone could be used as a charger. For this purpose, a special adapter is included with the gadget. We connect the smartphone to Power Ice Max and voila, the hungry smartphone begins to be powered by Highscreen. The adapter can also be used to connect external USB devices - for example, a joystick or flash drive (OTG technology support).

The smartphone does heat up when playing games, but it is insignificant and this does not in any way affect the quality and stability of the device.

Results

As a result, we have a decent dual-SIM smartphone: the filling is not top-end, but quite decent, manufacturing materials and assembly High Quality, and most importantly - a long-lasting battery. has a memorable appearance in a strict classic style with an abundance of right angles. The manufacturing materials do not leave a premium feeling, but at the same time the smartphone is pleasant to hold in your hands, despite its decent weight. In addition, the kit includes good headset, and in high-quality monitor headphones the smartphone sounds at the level of more expensive smartphones.

Nevertheless Power Ice Max has several nuances, to which I can include an external speaker located on the rear panel, average camera quality and color with a claim to be “expensive-rich”, but this claim is very uncertain.

Based on all of the above, the smartphone can be given a confident four plus. I would say that this is a real men's smartphone. Today it costs 13,990 rubles, and for this money there are undoubtedly many serious competitors. But I think that among them the smartphone should take its rightful place and find its buyer.
