What to do if the phone does not see the contacts on the SIM card?

From the very beginning of cedar, and even before it, every time I took and take new smartphone in hand, the first thing I look at is the controls. I think it’s very important to talk about them, because inconvenient controls can spoil the impression of a potentially good smartphone. In this article I will tell you where and what the control elements on the smartphone body should be. And if you don’t agree with me, let’s discuss it in the comments.

Why is this so important? After all, you can get used to everything, someone will say, the main thing is the speed of work, software, design... And I partly agree - you can get used to absolutely everything. Even listening to rap, but I really wouldn’t want to get used to that. Believe me, I'm not against rap, I just personally don't like this style. You won't like the music I listen to either!

Why retrain yourself and get used to something inconvenient, if today there are hundreds of smartphones, of which dozens are excellent models? There's definitely plenty to choose from. It is better to teach designers to approach their work more scrupulously. After all, it will be impossible to change what is already placed on the case by flashing it. Therefore, I decided to express my, of course, subjective opinion about each element on the body of an ordinary smartphone, but trying to justify my thoughts.

1. Control keys

Previously, there were more of them on Android - as many as four, today there are three. Only some have a fourth key, it is responsible for changing the SIM card. There are three keys on WM, one on iPhone. But I will try to unify my wishes so that they apply to all models and operating systems at once. I consider mechanical keys ideal. Like in iPhone, or in Samsung Galaxy S Active (any generation).

And that's why. Such keys are almost impossible to accidentally press, they respond adequately to wet fingers, and are easy to feel blindly without triggering. Among mechanical ones, I prefer recessed keys, like on the iPhone.

It's simple - you get the same benefits of mechanical keys, but the recessed button won't accidentally get pressed in your pocket and won't scratch as much. This is especially important if it has a built-in fingerprint scanner. For example, my main smartphones are SGS7 and iPhone 6s. Both have a mechanical Home key, and both have a scanner built into it. But on the S7 the button is already scratched because it simply rubs against the pocket all the time, but on the iPhone it doesn’t. Of course, the materials here are also very important, in the iPhone it is made of sapphire, but if it were above the surface of the display, I think after a while it would also be covered with small scratches.

However, most devices have touch keys: on-screen or displayed directly on the display. I will put both of them in second place, because they have their own advantages and disadvantages relative to each other. Personally, all things being equal, I will give preference to touch keys located under the display, as in ASUS Zenfone or Lenovo Vibe X3, for example.

You always have access to them - this is the main advantage for me. But on the other hand, in games or in general any tasks, you can accidentally press the home or back key and minimize the application. And in any case, they take up space on the body. On-screen keys allow you to shrink your chin, as in Moto smartphones, For example.

They have a number of advantages over conventional touch keys, for example, they can be customized (swap, add, hide), I already said about the space they occupy. Although not everyone can save space even with on-screen keys!

Personally, I like them less because here and there they disappear from the display to free up more usable space, but when I need to quickly go back or to the main screen, I have to swipe to pull out these keys, which annoys me.

2. Lock key

It's hard to imagine life without her, right? And I remember the times when a smartphone was locked in a different way, just like it was unlocked. For example, on Nokia you had to press a key combination, but the on/off key was not included in this combination.

Today, the lock button on some smartphones is the most frequently used element. For example, on an iPhone or Samsung I can unlock my smartphone using the mechanical Home key, but on most devices I need to press the power key. Therefore, its location should be thought out very well. I think Samsung did well here, because they taught others to place the lock key on the right side of the smartphone, right under the finger. Now most manufacturers place it there in their large smartphones, even Apple.

This is the most convenient place for the lock key if the smartphone is large enough. That is, when it is already difficult or impossible for your thumb to reach the top edge without moving the smartphone across your palm. Everything seems to be logical, but this doesn’t work out for everyone. For example, Sony for a long time placed the lock key below a convenient level:

And ASUS places the key on the top edge, and in the center. Considering the large dimensions of the Zenfone 2, this is not very convenient.

3. Volume keys

There are much fewer wishes for them, but they exist. A paired key or separate buttons is not so important. The main thing is that it does not wobble, that it moves smoothly and protrudes sufficiently above the surface of the body. It should be easy to find during a conversation or game when it is not possible to look at the body. And, of course, the location. I like the placement on the left side the most, because on the right we have the lock button. The worst thing is when the lock and volume keys are placed on the same edge, it’s difficult for me personally to get used to, every now and then I press the wrong thing. Some even think of placing absolutely everything on one edge.

I don't like the placement at the back at all. You cannot adjust the volume while navigating, when the smartphone is installed in a car holder, or when the gadget is lying on the table.

4. Power connector

It's either Micro USB, or USB Type-C, or Lightning. I believe that the only correct place to place this connector is at the bottom and nowhere else. It’s very good that 90% of manufacturers understand this and do everything correctly, but some people think that this connector can be placed on top.

This is wildness! It’s especially pleasing when this occurs in mid-level smartphones that taxi drivers buy. They constantly attach the smartphone to windshield and keep it on charge, and the cord sticks out almost in the ceiling. And in my memory there were such unique cases:

Moreover, on the left side of the same smartphone there was a headphone jack. In general, they were created specifically to make it uncomfortable. Does anyone remember what model it is? :)

5. Headphone jack

This question causes the most controversy and there is actually no single correct opinion. Of course, if we are not talking about placement, as in the photo above. Some people prefer the location below, and, as for me, the majority of them prefer the position above. Personally, I prefer the bottom placement for two reasons. The first is that when headphones are connected and you walk with a smartphone in your hand down the street or stand on public transport, the wire does not stretch through the smartphone, pulling top part down and away from the smartphone. This is especially convenient for those who run wires under clothes. The second is that most people, including me, put their smartphone upside down in their front pocket. With a bottom-mounted jack, the headphones will always come straight out of your pocket. I don’t know what advantages the top position has, maybe you can tell me.

6. Speaker

About the external speaker (not conversational, everything is clear with it), I’ll say just a few words. The fact is that it is difficult to place it somewhere in the wrong place. This is not a control element, you don’t need to reach for it, you just need it to make it sound. Today there are three most popular options for placing this speaker: on the back of the smartphone, on the bottom edge and on the front side.

The main thing in any placement is that the speaker is not covered by anything. Therefore, when placing it on the back cover, it is necessary to check whether the surface of the table/sofa does not completely cover the speaker when the smartphone is lying down. For this purpose, constructive modifications are made.

From below, the speaker can only be interfered with by a hand that will cover it during the game, for example. But the front is the coolest location, but it cannot be called the best. Cool because the speakers in Lenovo Vibe X3 or HTC One up to M9 inclusive, they pump well, but also take up a lot of space.

7. Manufacturer's logo

This is the last and most subjective point. I'm just against putting the manufacturer's logo on the front of the device. He ruins it and that's it! I know which smartphone manufacturer I’m buying, I’m spending my money! I don't need to be reminded of this a hundred times every day. Therefore, I wildly welcome everyone who leaves the logo only on the back side. Thank you!

Many models, including the iPhone and SGS7, fall under the requirements I described for the placement of elements on the body of smartphones. But if you go into details, in particular regarding the home key, then there are not many models left. But my advice to you is the following - when choosing a new smartphone, pay attention to the points I described. At first it may seem that this is not so important, but today there is simply a huge selection on the market and in any case you will find a smartphone with a more or less normal arrangement of elements on the body that will fit into your budget. Although Samsung Galaxy S5 is one of the most advanced and technologically advanced phones on the market today, it does not have a built-in function wireless charging. Recently, Samsung introduced two cases to the market that support wireless charging using the Qi standard, a review of which you will see below. I also tested third party solutions that could add this useful function wireless charging for Samsung smartphone S5.

Case with wireless charging function - "S-View"

The first case is Samsung Wireless Charging S-View Flip Cover. This is a leather case with a flip top and a square hole on the front. This is one of the best cases I've used - high quality leather and stitching around the entire perimeter of the case. The “window” is made of tough, scratch-resistant plastic. This allows the owner to use the main functions of the S5 while the case is closed and the phone is protected.

The Galaxy S5 logo is engraved on the front of the case, while the Samsung logo is engraved on the back. Overall, the case looks elegant and is pleasant to hold in your hands.
It has a built-in receiver for Qi wireless charging. To install the case, you just need to remove the back cover of your S5 and attach the contacts on the case to the contacts on the back of the phone and press firmly - close the cover.

When the phone is turned on and the case is closed, you access basic functions such as the camera, weather and pedometer through a small screen. You will also be able to see invitations to meetings - work with the calendar, make calls, control the music player. Everything that is really necessary in the first place.

Overall, I'm pleased after using this case for a few weeks. The only negative that I noticed, which is probably related to Samsung's shortcomings, is small "glitches" in the phone's operation when switching from working in the "case window" to the full screen. Several times the phone screen was simply completely black and I had to close and open the case several times to start working comfortably and once even remove the battery;-0
It is worth noting that this case allows you to charge your phone wirelessly not only using branded Samsung charging stations, but also any other wireless chargers that support the Qi standard.

Back cover with built-in Qi receiver for Galaxy S5

Back cover supports Qi wireless charging for Samsung phone S5. The cover is installed to replace the current one. The procedure is standard and does not require additional instructions. It is a few millimeters thicker, but nevertheless has the same design and is made of the same materials as the cover that does not have a Qi receiver.

At first glance, the new cover makes the phone look bulkier, but after using it for a while you will quickly get used to it. It is worth noting that after installing this cover, the phone will no longer fit into the slim case.

The cover also allows you to charge your phone not only using Samsung wireless chargers, but also any wireless chargers that support the Qi standard.

To install the Qi receiver, you need to attach it to the battery and, holding it with your fingers, connect it to the connectors. After that, put your phone on cordless Charger and the phone will start charging without wires and additional witchcraft :-)

The option with a receiver is the most economical one in which you can add wireless charging function to your galaxy phone S5. In my tests, after installing the receiver, wireless charging worked without any problems.

The leather flip case really looks elegant, fully protects the phone from the front and back, and also adds access to key functions through a small window on the front.
