Lenovo vibe z2 smartphones. Lenovo Vibe Z2 - Specifications. OS and software

Lenovo, despite its relatively small age in the smartphone industry, does not miss the chance to become one of the best in this segment and now, based on the results of the second quarter of 2014, it ranks 4th among the main players in the market mobile technologies, leaving ahead only three powerful players: Samsung, Apple and Huawei. However, everything can change thanks to a powerful new product that can compete with famous brands - the Lenovo Vibe Z2 K920 smartphone.

Characteristics

The main driving force Lenovo smartphone K920 is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974-AC processor with clock frequency 2.5 GHz, and the Adreno 330 graphics processor is responsible for graphics processing. The device has 3 GB random access memory and 32 GB of internal storage, designed for installing applications and storing personal data.

The smartphone operates in GSM (850/900/1800/1900), WCDMA (850/900/1700/1900/2100) and LTE (800/850/900/1800/2100/2600) networks and supports simultaneous operation of 2 SIM cards -kart.

Wireless communications include GPS and GLONASS positioning systems, as well as Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and of course Wi-Fi. Overall dimensions of Lenovo K920: 156 x 81.3 x 7.7 mm, and weight is 179 g. Accumulator battery The device has a capacity of 4000 mAh.

The device runs on the modern operating system Android 4.4.2, but there is a possibility that such a device will be updated in the future with more modern software that keeps up with the times. Interestingly, unlike its predecessors, the Lenovo K920 can switch from the built-in launcher to “pure” Android.

Display

The display of the Vibe Z2 is one of key features, which in this moment Not all leaders in the smartphone industry can boast of this. Having a diagonal of 6 inches, the Lenovo K920 smartphone has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, which is currently quite rare. The screen occupies almost the entire front panel of the device on the sides, leaving only thin frames for a comfortable hand grip.

Sound

Despite the lack of Doulby systems, the sound in the phone is quite loud and of high quality, and the built-in music player has ample capabilities. In addition to the usual player, the device also has an FM receiver.

On the front side of the smartphone there is a 5 MP camera, and on the back there is a 16 MP camera with flash and optical stabilization (Optical Anti-Shake). As a video camera, the device allows you to record video in resolution up to 4K.

Appearance

Lenovo K920, with its metal body and strict forms, resembles its predecessor, .

On the front side of the device there is a 6-inch diagonal screen, sensors, a 5 MP camera and touch buttons controls, and on the back there is a 16 MP camera with flash, as well as Lenovo and VIBE logos.

The volume rocker is located on the right side, and on the left there is a SIM card slot and a power button for the device.

The Lenovo K920 Vibe Z2 pro smartphone turned out to be a powerful and interesting device that can win the hearts of many fans big phones, however, for fans of smaller diagonal devices it may not be as comfortable, although there is a possibility that Lenovo will have this device in the near future.

We visited Lenovo Vibe Z2. Unfortunately, at that time we got acquainted with the pre-production version and were not able to fully evaluate the device. Today our review involves the production version of the smartphone, which we can talk about in more detail.

Equipment

The box with the smartphone is made in the style familiar to the Vibe line. Outwardly, it can even be confused with that of the older Vibe Z2 Pro model. Inside the box, in addition to the smartphone itself, there is a headset, a charger, USB cable, paper documentation and a paper clip to open the SIM card slot. As a result, the equipment is quite standard, and exactly the same as that of the older model.

Appearance

As already mentioned in the first look, the smartphone is an almost complete copy of the older model. The differences include a slightly reduced screen size from 6 to 5.5 inches, different processing of metal parts and the use of glossy plastic inserts.

It is worth noting that the manufacturer did a good job on the appearance of both flagship model, and the hero of the review. The device looks strict, solid and even somehow masculine. There are no rounded edges here, all lines are as straight as possible, and the corners are sharp and only slightly rounded.

The front side is covered with a solid protective glass, under which, in addition to light, proximity and automatic brightness sensors, the peephole of the front camera is hidden.

In the center there is a 5.5-inch screen, and below it are backlit hardware touch control keys. The upper and lower ends are covered with glossy plastic.

They have a 3.5 mm audio jack on top, a microUSB connector, a main microphone and a multimedia speaker on the bottom. On the right side there is a volume and power key. On the left there is only a slot for two SIM cards in microSIM format. The main camera with dual flash and an additional microphone are located on the back side.

In terms of ease of use, you need to understand that you can forget about comfortable work with a smartphone with a screen size of 5.5 inches. Yes, in our case, the manufacturer has greatly simplified use with the help of proprietary software chips. But even they do not help in some cases. On the other hand, if you use two hands, there are no complaints.

There is exactly one caveat to the design - the volume and power keys are loose. We are inclined to assume that this is an unfortunate misunderstanding and a problem with our sample, but it’s worth paying attention to when buying a device, because it would be half the trouble if the keys were just hanging out, as they still make quite a loud noise when the device shakes. As a result, it turns out that the smartphone turns into a rattle for children.

Interface and operating system

The operating system is Android KitKat 4.4 with the Lenovo Launcher v6.0 interface. This shell is already well known to us from other devices of the company.

It has quite a lot of settings, both appearance and various smart modes, which make working with a smartphone somewhat easier. For example, to call the curtain you do not need to reach for the top edge of the screen. You just need to swipe your finger from top to bottom anywhere on the screen, and the curtain will obediently open.

There is a separate section with special settings. You can activate the smartphone by double-tapping the screen, taking a quick photo by double-pressing the “Home” key, and much more. In general, most of the features presented in this settings item are quite interesting.

Do not forget that the Lenovo Launcher v6.0 shell allows you to significantly change the standard interface. Let's say you don't like the standard animation of flipping through desktop screens. You can change it to another or turn it off in the interface settings. You can also choose an interface theme and customize it for yourself.

Despite the fact that the standard shell is quite functional, the smartphone works quickly and smoothly. The response rate to user actions is high. In this regard, we can say that the manufacturer managed to combine a rich set of interface functions without compromising the performance of the device.

Performance

Inside the Lenovo Vibe Z2 is a modern 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor (MSM8916).

The clock speed of ARM Cortex-A53 cores is 1.2 GHz. The video adapter is Adreno 306. The amount of RAM is 2 GB. Built-in memory is 32 GB, of which 25 GB is available. There is no slot for memory cards.

Unfortunately, the results of synthetic tests are far from the best. In some way the explanation is that Current version The Android 4.4 KitKat operating system does not allow you to unlock the full potential of the processor due to the lack of support for 64-bit processors from the operating system.

Otherwise, we have quite regular smartphone, it allows you to enjoy a smooth interface, but with demanding games you may experience hiccups.

Wireless interfaces are fully represented. There is support for NFC, Wi-Fi a/n/b/g/ac, Bluetooth version 4.0 and GPS with GLONASS support. Data exchange speed Wi-Fi networks good, also no complaints about the speed of searching for satellites.

Video playback is not as smooth as we would like. AnTuTu Video Tester shows that a smartphone will not always open a video using the built-in player; for this it is better to use a third-party player.

If we talk about the voice speaker and microphone, then the smartphone does not disappoint. Neither the interlocutor nor the owner of the device will complain about them. The multimedia speaker is also not bad. It is quite loud and due to the fact that it is located on the bottom end, it will not be blocked when lying on the table. But the sound in the headphones was a little disappointing. Not even the sound itself. There's nothing wrong with him. It is detailed and quite good, but the volume reserve is not so good. Even when using completely standard vacuum headphones in the subway, you can find that there is either no volume reserve, or there is one more division left.

Autonomy

Lenovo Vibe Z2 is equipped with a 3000 mAh battery. Time battery life not bad. In fairly harsh conditions, the smartphone worked for two days with an active screen time of 6 hours 25 minutes and two hours of voice calls - this is a very good indicator. The results of synthetic autonomy tests are also encouraging.

The manufacturer took care of energy saving functions. There is both an emergency mode and a more “humane” one - smart saving for the screen and GPU. As a result, if necessary, you can significantly increase battery life, but at the same time limit the capabilities of the device.

Display

The smartphone has a 5.5 inch IPS screen. It is made using OGS technology and has HD resolution (1280x720). The pixel density is 267 ppi. Screen settings include Default Mode, Adaptive Mode, High Brightness Mode, and Custom Mode. Don’t forget about the extended “outdoor” mode

Thanks to these settings, the screen's behavior in the sun can be called very good. Information remains readable even in direct sunlight.

Measurement results show that the maximum brightness reaches 418 cd/m² in normal mode and 506 cd/m² in high brightness mode. The minimum brightness is 8.9 cd/m². Contrast - 1:771.

The factory screen calibration is not bad, but nothing more. The color temperature is slightly higher than 7500K, which makes the image a little cooler than necessary. The gamma curve graph is quite different from the reference one. The screen color gamut is slightly wider than sRGB.

In the end, the screen turned out quite good. Yes, it is not perfect, but it has very good brightness and contrast indicators. Thanks to this, it looks great both in sunny weather and in the dark.

Cameras

LenovoVibe Z2 is equipped with front camera 8 MP and main 13 MP. The main camera can record video in Full HD resolution. There are quite a lot of options in the camera settings. Among them, it is worth noting the presence of a level in the chamber. Also, the ability to take photographs in HDR mode, panorama and night mode has not gone away.

The quality of the photos is good. IN automatic mode The pictures come out quite clear and not noisy. But in HDR mode, the camera takes pictures that are not natural—very contrasty and bright.

Lenovo Vibe Z2 is a stylish metal smartphone with a good screen, sufficient battery life and a good camera. Unfortunately, its price is not the most attractive - 7500 UAH. (about $400). For that kind of money, I would like to see not the modest Qualcomm Snapdragon 410, but at least the Qualcomm Snapdragon 610. Also, you should not compare the hero of the review with the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro. The older model has more powerful hardware, a better screen and camera. Yes, it costs more, but if you look at the difference in price, the conclusion suggests itself. As a result, in terms of Lenovo specifications Vibe Z2 is significantly simplified, but the same cannot be said about the price.

Introduction

Having started to deal with smartphones in 2011, Lenovo managed to rise to third place in the world in sales in just three years. If you look at global smartphone sales in the fourth quarter of 2011 (4Q2011), Lenovo occupied only 1.1 percent of the market; the next year, 4Q2012, the share grew to 3.8 percent of the market, and in the fourth quarter of 2013, 4Q2013 it amounted to 4.6 percent. According to preliminary data, in the first quarter of 2014, Lenovo's share of global smartphone sales increased to 7.5 percent. Of course, Motorola devices are now taken into account here, but the growth in sales and market share for the company is visible in any case, and now, in fact, Lenovo shares third place with Huawei.

The company did in three years what Microsoft and Nokia could not do in a longer period with the Lumia/Windows Phone project, while Lenovo started almost from scratch, while MS and Nokia had thousands of patents and developments, ready-made platforms and solutions. However, let's not talk about sad things, but return to the Chinese manufacturer.

According to one version, Lenovo got involved in smartphones at the moment when Samsung’s aggressive attack on all markets became completely obvious. Chinese manufacturers, one after another, chose to intervene in the struggle for at least the local market instead of just watching and giving it to the Koreans. Lenovo turned out to be the last of the large corporations to intervene in this fight, which makes it all the more interesting to observe the existing line of smartphones from this company.

The manufacturer is still experimenting with formats, model lines, their positioning and other things, but the company has already mastered the main principle - one top device per year. In 2013, it was the Lenovo K900, a controversial smartphone. A high-quality huge display and a thin, albeit large metal body were accompanied by an unfinished at that time for Android Intel platform Atom, not the best battery capacity, lack of a memory card slot and high cost for a model from an unknown manufacturer. To Lenovo’s credit, it should be noted that they very quickly reduced the price significantly, thus managing to create a stir around the device and even advertise it in some markets, in Russia for sure. Yes, the device was sold without profit, but many people learned about the Lenovo K900, and people started talking about the company. I don’t want to say that the K900 was the main element in the development of the brand, but in some markets it was this model, sold at a bargain price for such characteristics, that made a significant contribution to the popularization of the brand.

In this review I want to tell you about the development of the line, the Lenovo K920 smartphone. The official name of the device is Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, but in my opinion, the K920 sounds better. The new model is a development of the ideas inherent in the K900; these are devices of the same series - the company’s flagships. In the first part we will talk about all the features of the smartphone, except for the camera; we will talk about it in a separate article. Go.

Design, body materials

Like Lenovo K900, new smartphone made of metal (aluminum) and has the same strict, angular shape. The use of polished metal with a texture on the “back” makes the smartphone stand out from others – it looks unusual. It’s difficult to describe the material in words, I suggest you just look at the images:

The shape of the case can be called classic and standard, no bends or bevels, except for the neat transition of the side, left and right, edges into the rear surface of the device. This bevel makes it a little more comfortable to hold the device in your hands.

From the front side, the smartphone looks simple: the protective glass occupies the entire surface, and the key markings are not visible until you turn on the screen, so when it’s off it’s just a black sheet.

The impression of the rigor and conciseness of the front panel is spoiled only by the “four” in the upper right corner (4G), which, fortunately, is in final version there will be no device. By the way, the large VIBE inscription on the back of the device that goes on sale will also not be there.

The main design feature of the Lenovo K920 is the area around the main camera. Firstly, the camera eye itself is bordered by a square frame made of red plastic, and secondly, around the camera there is an insert made of glossy metal-like plastic. The solution is not so much decorative as it is necessary for placing antennas. It must be admitted that overall this insert looks quite harmonious, especially since four screws were added to it as fastenings. I can’t say that I like such additional little things in a smartphone, but I also can’t call this solution tasteless. In this case, the task was to bring the antennas to the body, bypassing metal areas, and the designers, together with the engineers, solved it.

There is also a plastic insert for antennas in the lower back of the device. Here, by the way, there are two more screws located at the end.

The textured metal back makes the smartphone practical - marks on the surface, even if they remain, are completely invisible. For a very long time I tried to get the back of the device dirty and take a photo of it, but nothing worked. The front side gets dirty, of course, much more noticeably, but thanks to the oleophobic coating, fingerprints and fingerprints can be quickly removed; in general, this is a problem for any device with a large touch screen.

Assembly

There are no complaints about the build quality of the smartphone - everything is very solid and reliable, besides, the body is monolithic, the only removable parts here are the SIM card tray. It so happened that while using the device, I accidentally dropped it on the ground on the street, and before the fall, the device hit a small stone and bounced off. The result is a few small scratches on the “back” and a barely noticeable dent on the frame near the screen. Of course, this is not an indicator of the strength and indestructibility of the K920, but still.

Dimensions

I don’t know what to call the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro correctly – a smartphone or a phablet, I can only say that the device is huge. By size new model is approximately between Sony Xperia Z Ultra and smartphones with 5.5" screens. Even Lenovo's previous flagship, the K900, is noticeably more compact than the new product. Take a look at the sizes for yourself:

  • Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro(6"") - 156 x 81 x 7.7 mm, 179 grams
  • Apple iPhone 5S– 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm, 112 grams
  • HTC One(M8)(5"") - 146.4 x 70.6 x 9.4 mm, 160 grams
  • LG G3(5.5"") – 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm, 149 grams
  • Nokia Lumia 930 (5"") - 137 x 71 x 9.8 mm, 167 grams
  • Samsung Galaxy S5(5.1"") - 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm, 145 grams
  • Sony Xperia Z Ultra(6.44"") - 179 x 92 x 6.5 mm, 212 grams
  • OnePlus One(5.5"") – 153 x 76 x 9 mm, 162 grams

If you put the K920 next to some large, as it seemed to me until recently, HTC One (M8) or even the LG G3, you immediately understand how compact the latter are (this is a joke, but only half).

So that you can visualize the gulf in size that lies between the K920 with a six-inch screen and a real compact smartphones, I’ll give just three pictures:

Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro

The compact Meizu MX2 can not only be buried in the screen of the Lenovo K920, but there will also be space left.

How does the device fit in your hand? Personally, in my case, it’s difficult, to put it mildly. Once again, the definition of “shovel” is derived by manufacturers, in this case Lenovo, on new level. Yes, there was a Sony Xperia Z Ultra before, but then the Japanese immediately made it clear that they did not consider their device a smartphone, but here everything is more vague, and if desired, the Lenovo K920 could well be included in this category.

With due diligence and dexterity, it is possible to adapt to the dimensions of the model, but for me the dimensions of the K920 turned out to be beyond acceptable, that is, I cannot hold it with one hand and control it.

Controls

There are a minimum of controls in the smartphone - a short volume key on the left side, a power key on the right, and a block of backlit touch buttons under the screen.

The hardware volume and power buttons are quite comfortable with a hard, short press stroke. Unfortunately, the firmware version for Lenovo K920 for August does not include the ability to unlock the device by double tapping the screen, as is done in many other smartphones. Personally, I have already gotten used to this option on the LG G3 and HTC One (M8), and here I miss it. But, as Lenovo notes, this option may appear in future firmware for the K920, so most likely it’s only a matter of time.

On the right edge, in addition to the power button, there is a slot for two microSIM cards located on a common tray. To remove it, you need to use the supplied paperclip.

At the top end there is a 3.5 mm mini-jack for headphones, at the bottom there is a grille behind which the speaker is hidden, as well as a microUSB connector and a microphone.

The buttons below the display are backlit white, from left to right there are the Menu, Home and Back keys. The backlight can be set to run for 3 seconds, continuously, or simply turn it off. You cannot reassign actions assigned to buttons, this is a minus.

But there is also a plus - a lot additional settings and management options. Lenovo wisely approached the problem of the large dimensions of the device and tried to do everything so that users for whom the size of the K920 is large, but the large screen beckons, could make friends with the smartphone. Let's take a look at what the manufacturer offers.

Microscreen for one hand. A strange, but still useful option in some situations, which perfectly characterizes the world of modern spade-shaped smartphones, when you want a large screen, but your fingers are no longer long enough. By enabling this option, you can scale the screen, reducing its size to such a level that it becomes convenient to operate the device with one hand. That is, you can do work area a diagonal of 4 inches instead of the basic six, for example.

Yes, it will look strange, but it will be convenient to use.

Live keyboard. By enabling this option, you get the keys on the dialer's numeric keypad shifted in the direction in which the device is tilted. This is a controversial option, in my opinion, but it will probably be useful to someone.

You can also set the smartphone screen to turn on by pressing any volume key, disable the Home button in the horizontal orientation of the device, and lock the smartphone with a quick short shake of the device. And there are settings here that are already familiar to many other smartphones - the “In Pocket” mode (automatically increases the volume when the device is put in your pocket) and “In Hand” mode (the volume automatically decreases when you take the smartphone in your hand).

Let's return to the arrangement of elements. On the front side, above the screen, there is a speaker, light and proximity sensors, as well as a 5-megapixel front camera (no autofocus) and a light indicator.

Screen

The Lenovo K920 uses an IPS LCD screen, 6" diagonal", resolution 2560x1440 pixels, density 490 ppi. The screen is covered with protective glass Gorilla Glass 3. The record resolution for smartphones here, as in the case of the LG G3, in my opinion, is not justified. Personally, I find it difficult and only under a magnifying glass to distinguish the clarity of the picture on this display and on the display of the HTC One M8, for example. On the other hand, in all respects the screen on the K920 is excellent and there’s simply nothing to complain about. There is a very high brightness reserve (a special high-brightness mode), by setting it, you will get a smartphone with the brightest screen among IPS-matrices of smartphones, maximum viewing angles and natural color rendition.

If the standard color rendering profile does not suit you, you can adjust it manually by changing the positions of the hue, saturation and contrast sliders. The screen can be made cooler or warmer in color temperature, as it suits you.

Below are photos comparing the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro display (bottom) with the LG G3 screen (top).

Camera

The main camera in the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro is 16-megapixel, uses a Samsung ISOCELL sensor, six lenses, and has optical stabilization, the operation of which is surprisingly visible to the naked eye when shooting. Near the camera there is a dual LED flash that can be used as a flashlight.

There are two camera modes: smart mode and pro. In the first, the system itself chooses optimal settings for shooting and sets a certain scene, in the second you do everything yourself.

The camera interface in smart mode is as simple as possible - a shooting button, a button for switching between the main and front cameras, as well as keys for selecting a mode or video recording.

In pro mode everything is more interesting. Here you can not only set the exposure level and ISO value, but also select the shutter speed and manually focus at a certain distance. Also in the settings you can enable display of the level in this mode so that “the horizon is not blocked.”

Unfortunately, in the engineering sample that I had for review, the camera did not always work correctly: in some conditions the automation set the wrong white balance or could not focus correctly. However, even taking into account this temporary shortcoming, the huge potential of the camera in the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro is visible if it is brought to fruition in future firmware.

Below is a block of comparative photographs taken on the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro and LG G3 smartphones:

Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro LG G3

The camera allows you to take excellent close-up photographs of objects (macro), the front 5 MP camera does not have autofocus, but the quality of the images here is acceptable.

Shooting in “pro” mode gives you many new opportunities, for example, you can photograph at ISO 200-400 with a significant shutter speed to get a noise-free shot in low light conditions. Due to optical stabilization Even when setting a slow shutter speed, you don't need to have tripod arms to get a sharp shot.

Video can be recorded in resolutions up to 3840x2160 (specified as 4k in the settings), FullHD is standard, the H.264 codec is used, and the recording speed is 30 frames per second. There is accelerated recording and recording in two windows, when video is recorded in parallel to the main camera, as well as to the front one. There is a fixed focus (can be changed by tapping on the screen) and a tracking focus mode.

Autonomous operation

The smartphone has a Li-Pol battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh; for the most efficient use of the battery, you can also turn on the power saving mode in special utility Lenovo Power Manager.

In my usage scenario, the Lenovo K920 easily works all day long; moreover, this is one of the first smartphones that, in a typical usage scenario, lasts me not just until the night of the current day, but for about a day and a half.

The scenario is approximately the following: 1 hour of conversations, 10-20 text messages, Gmail, 3-4 hours of music listening, 1-2 hours of active use mobile internet(Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Chrome), constant correspondence throughout the day on WhatsApp and Facebook messenger(in total no less than an hour), photography.

In video playback mode in 1080p quality, 5000 kbps (volume and brightness are set to three quarters or about 70 percent, battery mode is “normal”, Wi-Fi and GPS are disabled), the smartphone lasts about 8-10 hours. For a device on a powerful platform with a huge screen, the indicator is very good.

Full time Charging the device takes approximately 3 hours ( charging block 5V/1A).

Platform, memory

The smartphone is built on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 platform (MSM8974AC) with a quad-core processor with a frequency of 2.5 GHz, graphics subsystem (GPU) – Adreno 330 with a processor frequency of 578 MHz. The device has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. Slot for microSD card not provided.

Performance, tests

Both in synthetic tests (Antutu) and in daily use, the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro shows excellent performance results. The interface works smoothly and without lags, switching between programs occurs quickly, clearly and without jerks. The device easily plays FullHD video in high quality and allows you to comfortably play all games available for the Android platform.

Under normal load (calls, mail, Internet via 3G/4G), the smartphone hardly heats up; Wi-Fi connection(watching a movie via a web service, for example) or during a long game, the device heats up significantly. According to the Stability Test application, the approximate temperature of the device (data from the battery temperature) during normal operation is about 35 degrees. Under load, after 15 minutes of running the test, the temperature rises to 50 degrees.

I also present the results of testing the smartphone in the Antutu (X) benchmark:

Interfaces

The smartphone operates in GSM, HSDPA and LTE (4G) networks and is equipped with two slots for microSIM cards. The first slot supports LTE FDD (bands 1, 3, 7, 20), so in Russia the device works without problems with 4G networks. Data transfer speeds using 4G (LTE), of course, depend on the place where you are; my Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro gave very good performance in places with reliable “4G” reception.

Data transfer speed using LTE on Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro

Data transfer speed using LTE on LG G3, measured at the same location

The second slot is primarily for the SIM card you plan to use to make calls, but it can also be used for data transfers. True, only using 2G (Edge).

USB. To synchronize with a PC and transfer data, the included microUSB cable. USB interface 2.0. USB-OTG is supported – you can connect flash drives and other storage devices to your smartphone via an adapter file systems FAT/FAT32.

Bluetooth. Built-in Bluetooth 4.0 module with support for A2DP profile.

Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n). The smartphone has a dual-band Wi-Fi module, it works flawlessly. Like any other modern Android device, Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro supports the function of “sharing” the mobile Internet via Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi router).

NFC. The standard interface for any Android-based flagship, starting from 2013, is also present in the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro. Everyone can figure out how to use it themselves, you can come up with scenarios with special NFC tags, you can check the number of trips on a metro card.

Telephone capabilities / Implementation of dual SIM cards

Both slots for SIM cards are in microSIM format; they are located on the same tray, next to each other. In the smartphone settings you can set names for each SIM card. The device has one radio module, so if you are talking on one SIM card while calling the second, the person will hear a message from the operator’s answering machine or “the subscriber is temporarily unavailable.”

When dialing a number or sending a text message, there are two keys everywhere to use for each action of the first or second SIM card.

If you use two MegaFon SIM cards with the Live Balance service activated, the balance for the first SIM card is displayed.

For each SIM card, the ringtone and sound for text messages are set separately, and the sound for notifications is common.

I’ll also note here that the smartphone can record audio from the line, and in the call settings you can enable automatic recording of conversations. Accordingly, you and your interlocutor can be clearly heard in the recording.

In the call settings there are options like automatically answering a call when you bring the device to your ear, triggering a short vibration when successfully connecting with a subscriber, and so on. In a word, all the features common in other smartphones (Samsung, HTC) are here.

Navigation/Car Mode

The smartphone has support for GPS/A-GPS and Glonass; searching for satellites takes a minimum amount of time. The device has pre-installed programs Google Maps and Google Navigation.

Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro has a special “car mode” for working with your smartphone when you are moving or simply installed the device in the holder on windshield and use it as a navigator or video recorder.

In this mode, only the most necessary applications are available, and the interface is optimized for easy finger control without “aiming” at icons.

In this mode, you can use your smartphone as a DVR; for this, there is a built-in utility that records video on the main camera in moderate quality.

Software features and software

The smartphone works under Android control 4.4.2, the proprietary VIBE UI (Lenovo Launcher) is used as an interface, similar in its basic idea to MIUI. The same arrangement of all shortcuts on desktop screens without a separate application menu, deleting programs by holding your finger on the icon and pressing the cross above it after.

From the lock screen you can quickly access calls, messages or launch the camera. If you listen to music through an audio player (Google Music, for example), the album cover and music control buttons are displayed on the lock screen.

The “curtain” of notifications is interesting. There is no division into tabs, and the buttons for controlling interfaces and settings are not all shown, but only in a small area. If necessary, you can pull the tab inside the curtain and pull out all the tags.

In the settings, you can change the set of shortcuts displayed here and their position inside the “curtain”.

There are design themes for Lenovo Launcher, but the basic idea is the same as in MIUI: you can change the entire theme, or use individual components from different themes, take icons somewhere, a picture somewhere, and ringtones in a third theme.

Basic music player for Android – Google Music.

An interesting feature of the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro is the ability to switch to the standard Android 4.4 interface. To do this, you need to activate the “For Developers” menu by going to Settings > About phone > Version information and tapping on the “Build number” line. In the developer menu there is a line for switching the system interface, where you can select the basic interface Google Android 4.4.

Conclusion

The signal reception quality for both SIM cards is good; for a week and a half of using the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro as my main smartphone, I did not have any problems in this regard. The volume of the ringing speaker is above average, you can hear the ringing even in a noisy place, the only drawback is that there is only one speaker, located, moreover, at the end, so if you carry the device in your pocket, it will sound muffled. The vibration alert is average in strength and quite acceptable considering the weight of the smartphone.

In Russia, the official price of Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro has not yet been determined, but most likely it will be about 30,000 rubles, the start of sales is scheduled for the second half of September. On the one hand, the amount is significant, on the other hand, we should not forget that this is the company’s flagship, even if Lenovo releases it not at the most usual time, a kind of off-season, when all manufacturers have already shown top devices for 2014.

The Vibe Z2 Pro has no direct competitors yet, and this is perhaps one of its strongest points. I would also consider the high-quality aluminum body as a plus, good camera(especially if they are “finished” with firmware), an excellent display with a huge brightness reserve and the ability fine tuning color rendering, excellent performance and good battery life. The smartphone really has few disadvantages - the lack of a slot for a memory card (with 32 GB of internal memory, this is not a disadvantage for everyone, but still) and its huge dimensions due to the large six-inch screen. Samsung will soon introduce new Galaxy Note, and this device is likely to be the main competitor to the Lenovo K920. However, we can already say that Lenovo managed to make a very worthy product, and if you decide to choose a smartphone with the largest display at the end of the year, you should pay close attention to the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro.

We all know very well about the company’s activity in the mobile market. Russian users are very loyal not only to personal computers this brand, but also to smartphones of the brand. And the Chinese giant has several lines of them, the range of models of which is constantly updated.

In support of the current advanced model Vibe Z2 Pro, a more modest, but quite interesting Vibe Z2 arrived, presented last year at IFA 2014.

For those who are not ready to shell out a tidy sum in a crisis, are not very keen on characteristics, but at the same time want to look for something nice and special, we offer our review of the Vibe Z2.

The device will be available for sale (this model is still very rare in Russian stores) with 32 GB of built-in memory for data storage and two SIM cards. Vibe Z2 is officially supplied to the Russian market and is accompanied by appropriate support. Available in white, gold and titanium body colours. The approximate cost of a smartphone at the moment is 24,000 rubles.

Let's start a detailed study of Lenovo Vibe Z2 with brief description its parameters.

In theory, the Vibe Z2 should take place between the Vibe Z and Vibe Z2 Pro. But judging by the parameters, he is not very suitable for this position. Although much has not changed much compared to its predecessor, the screen resolution has become lower and the hardware is weaker. At the same time, the manufacturer has improved communication capabilities, updated operating system and made a more stylish metal body. The processor is now 64-bit. It turns out that last year's flagship looks more attractive in terms of performance than the Vibe Z2. But the latter, in many other ways, better meets the current market requirements and looks more advantageous in appearance.

Let's assume that this is just a simplified version of the leader in the Lenovo mobile segment, the Vibe Z2 Pro smartphone. Or you can hardly consider the device as a replacement for the popular Lenovo K900. Well, some manufacturers are known fans of creating many models and confusing consumers by providing gadgets with names that do not always exactly correspond to the essence.

Packaging and accessories Lenovo Vibe Z2

The Lenovo smartphone arrived for testing without packaging. But most likely the box and delivery package will not differ significantly from Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro.

According to our data, accessories will include:

  • USB cable;
  • Charger (presumably 5 V, 1.0 A);
  • Headphones;
  • SIM card ejector;
  • Documentation.

Now let's move directly to the device itself.

Appearance and design of Lenovo Vibe Z2

The hero of the review is made in a non-separable case. The entire front panel is occupied by glass, under which the screen is located.

The back part is covered with a metal cover, in our case golden in color. Its surface is polished and matte, but smooth and quite actively collects fingerprints. The edging on the side ends is metal, as it is part of the rear panel. And the lower and upper ends are made of black plastic.

The appearance of the Vibe Z2 can be called original, stylish and even brutal in some details. At the same time, one can feel the manufacturer’s desire to maintain quality at reasonable savings.

The case itself is thin, its thickness is 7.8 mm. The side edges of the rear panel are slightly smoothed. Only the corners of the smartphone on the front panel side remain sharp.

Holding the device is not very comfortable, since the body is quite wide, and the corners dig into the palm a little. And with such a screen diagonal, you definitely won’t be able to reach anywhere with the fingers of one hand.

The height of the device is 148.5 mm and the width is 76.4 mm. The frames on the sides of the display are narrow, leaving more space at the bottom and top. The device weighs 158 g (weighing confirmed this parameter). According to this characteristic, the smartphone feels normal for its size.

All hardware buttons and connectors are located at the ends.

Above the screen there are an event and charge indicator, a front camera, a speaker, light and proximity sensors. The speaker has a medium-sized slot covered with a grille and is located in a convenient place.

The indicator flashes blue every three seconds when events are missed and glows red when charging. It is not very bright and may be difficult to see from long distance and from different angles.

Below the screen there are three standard touch buttons, which are almost invisible without backlighting.

They are illuminated in dim white.

The main camera is located on the left at the top of the back panel. The camera module is secured with screws, designed stylishly and unusually, but protrudes above the level of the body. In this regard, the camera frame may be scratched, and the smartphone itself will lie unevenly on the table.

A dual LED flash and an additional microphone are located nearby. Here we see an inscription that the local 13-megapixel camera has received optical stabilization.

At the bottom of the rear panel there is only a plastic strip. Apparently, it plays the role of an antenna.

The 3.5 mm headphone jack is located at the top end.

Below, under the slots, there is a conversational microphone and one speaker. There is a USB connector in the center.

The right side contains the power button and dual volume rockers.

The left side has a retractable slot for a Micro SIM card.

The slot has a design that allows you to install two Micro SIM cards.

The quality of materials and their processing are good. The metal and plastic are quite thick; they don’t look premium, but they look decent. The body is assembled very well; there are no crunches or squeaks when twisting and pressing. The fit of the parts is precise and tight, the gaps are the same everywhere.

Controls and connectors are conveniently located. The size of the buttons is sufficient, they are pressed with a noticeable and audible click. The operation of the vibration motor is felt to be average. Sensors and sensors do not malfunction. During active use, the body of the device heats up within comfortable limits.

The appearance of the smartphone evokes positive emotions, but its size and shape do not have the best effect on ease of use.

Lenovo Vibe Z2 is a 5.5-inch smartphone with a metal body and LTE support. Brutal appearance he got it from Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro. In terms of dimensions, the Vibe Z2 can be called compact; competitors with the same diagonal are larger and heavier. It is inconvenient to use the device with one hand due to the dimensions and sharp corners of the case.

The Lenovo Vibe Z2 smartphone received a mid-level chipset - a quad-core Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 and 2 GB of RAM. Its performance is sufficient for daily tasks, but it is not suitable for demanding games. The decision to use this platform in this model seems strange; after all, the Vibe Z2 is positioned as a premium device. The built-in memory of 32 GB is enough for most tasks. But if there is not enough free space, it will not be possible to expand this volume - there is no slot for a memory card.

Lenovo Vibe Z2 has an average quality HD display (1280x720 pixels). For a 5.5-inch diagonal, this does not provide an optimally clear picture - individual pixels are visible. This looks depressing compared to the 5-inch, cheaper Vibe X2 with a Full HD display and the 6-inch Vibe Z2 Pro with excess Quad HD resolution (2560x1440). At the same time, the Vibe Z2 display has good viewing angles, brightness and color rendition.

The higher price compared to competitors is explained by high-quality cameras and communication capabilities. Lenovo Vibe Z2 supports LTE (1/3/4/7/20), NFC and high-speed Wi-Fi. The cameras are also capable of pleasing the buyer - the main 13 MP can replace the point-and-shoot camera, and the front 8 MP does an excellent job of taking selfies.

The results of the Lenovo Vibe Z2 battery tests were unexpected for us. The formal capacity of 3000 mAh was enough for a little more than a day of use. The result is satisfactory, but most of the smartphones we tested with the same capacity and diagonal worked 20-30% longer. Lenovo Vibe Z2, in our opinion, is too expensive for its characteristics. Especially compared to cheaper smartphones with the same diagonal. In this case, the overpayment is for a metal case, an NFC chip and an 8 MP front camera.

Where can I buy

Dimensions - 3.9

The Lenovo Vibe Z2 is compact for a 5.5-inch device. The dimensions of the smartphone are 148.5×76.4×8.2 mm. More compact than Huawei Honor 4X with the same diagonal (153×77.2×8.7 mm) or Sony Xperia C3 (156×79×7.9 mm), which turned out to be slightly thinner. The Lenovo Vibe Z2 feels good in the hand, but the sharp corners dig into the palm a little. Operating the phone with one hand is inconvenient.

The weight of the smartphone is 157 grams, lighter than the metal Huawei Ascend G7 (168 grams) or iPhone 6 Plus (171 grams) with the same diagonals. In our opinion, the phone looks stylish, but rough due to sharp corners, beveled edges, a protruding lens and screws on the back. The front side of Lenovo Vibe Z2 is completely covered with protective glass. Below the display there are separate control buttons. Back panel and the side edges are metal, the lens that sticks out from the body catches your eye. The speaker is hidden at the bottom, to the left of the Micro-USB connector. The build quality is at a high level, the use of metal is justified, and during the tests the phone did not lose its presentation. The Lenovo Vibe Z2 smartphone can be purchased in gold, white and gray colors.

Screen - 3.9

The Lenovo Vibe Z2 smartphone has an average quality display. Screen resolution - 1280x720 pixels, matrix type - IPS. The pixel density is not that high - 267 per inch, the image is not very clear, especially on small fonts. If the “older” version, Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, received an overly clear Quad HD display, then here they decided to “not report” the pixels. At the same time, Lenovo has a stylish Vibe X2 with a Full HD display, which is also cheaper.

But the display turned out to be bright - up to 399 cd/m2, the information remains readable in the sun. The minimum brightness of the white background is 12 cd/m2, convenient for reading in the dark. The viewing angles of the display are wide, the image does not fade, and the colors do not shift when deviated. The phone has a light sensor and automatic brightness adjustment, which work correctly. The image on the display is set high due to the lack of an air gap between the glass and the matrix panel. The advantages of the screen are good color rendering and an effective oleophobic coating - fingerprints almost do not remain on the display. Unlike the Lenovo Vibe X2, the Vibe Z2 does not have a glove mode.

Camera

Lenovo Vibe Z2 received high-quality cameras of 13 MP and 8 MP. The main camera is equipped with an optical stabilization system, takes panoramas, has an HDR mode, a number of special effects and the ability to adjust contrast, white balance, ISO, sharpness, exposure and saturation. Photo resolution (which for some reason cannot be changed in the settings) is 4208x3120 pixels. The camera overall can take clear pictures and reproduces colors well. The only problem is that you often have to tap on the screen to get the camera to focus properly. The maximum video resolution is Full HD (1920×1080) at 30 frames per second and with stereo sound. It's better not to shoot dynamic scenes on video - the camera has tracking autofocus, but it doesn't work right away. There is a risk that moving objects will be out of focus.

The 8 MP front camera is designed for high-quality selfies and does its job well. The maximum photo resolution is 3264x2448, video - 1280x720. The disadvantage is that the focus is fixed; a clear picture can be taken at a distance of 1-2 meters.

Photo from camera Lenovo Vibe Z2 - 3.2

Photos from the front camera of Lenovo Vibe Z2 - 3.2

Working with text - 3.0

The smartphone comes pre-installed with a standard Google keyboard. It is quite convenient for typing texts. In it you can switch between languages with one key. The top row of keys allows you to dial numbers with a long press. The keyboard supports continuous input. There is no additional character marking. The smartphone works with a custom dictionary and remembers previously typed words.

Internet - 3.0

The browsers available are: Google Chrome and Yandex.Browser and UC Browser. In the first, you can synchronize tabs and history with desktop Chrome. Yandex Browser has a turbo mode and the ability to close tabs when exiting the browser. UC Browser supports automatic text adjustment to the screen width and reading mode. 2 GB of RAM allows you to open multiple tabs without any problems.

Communications - 5.0

According to this criterion, Lenovo Vibe Z2 is comparable to top smartphones. There is support for LTE, NFC, two slots for Micro-SIM cards, dual-band and high-speed Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 with the A2DP profile, A-GPS along with GLONASS - everything is at a high level. The set of ports is typical - Micro-USB 2.0 with USB-Host for connection peripheral devices and a headphone jack.

Multimedia - 3.0

As our tests have shown, the smartphone supports limited quantity video and audio formats. Thus, Lenovo Vibe Z2 could not cope with video formats MPG, TS, WMV, MKV and FLV. In terms of audio, the situation turned out to be better, but in the tests, the Lenovo Vibe Z2 was unable to play FLAC format tracks. The built-in players turned out to be poor in settings and capabilities: there are no equalizers, subtitle settings, etc.

Battery - 3.1

The battery life of the Lenovo Vibe Z2 was not that great for a 3000 mAh capacity. 6 hours 50 minutes of continuous video or 63.5 hours in mp3 player mode. Sounds good, but Huawei Honor 6, Ascend G7 and Sony Xperia C3 last longer. In our “average mode” (one movie, about an hour of gaming, listening to music, browsing, Wi-Fi turned on), the device had 10-11% charge left after one day of use. Note that our tests were carried out without using the energy-saving functions of the smartphone. The Lenovo Vibe Z2 Power Manager allows you to disable apps in sleep mode and reduce screen and GPU power consumption. There is a separate “emergency mode”, in which the image becomes black and white, and only calls and SMS are available from the functions.

Performance - 1.9

The Lenovo Vibe Z2 smartphone is equipped with 2 GB of RAM and a mid-level chipset - Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410. Four cores, a frequency of up to 1.2 GHz, an Adreno 306 graphics accelerator - this looks strange for a premium model. However, the Lenovo Vibe Z2 can handle everyday tasks quickly, but it starts to falter in demanding games like Asphalt 8 or NOVA 3. The results in the benchmarks turned out to be average, at the level of the mini-versions of the 2014 flagships. Thus, in the AnTuTu benchmark it received 20820 points, and in the Ice Storm Unlimited test from 3DMark - 4315 points. The numbers are not impressive; the results of the cheaper Huawei Honor 4C and 4X in the same tests were noticeably higher.

Memory - 2.5

The built-in memory of Lenovo Vibe Z2 is 32 GB, of which about 25 GB is available to the user. This should be enough to store photos and applications. There is no possibility to expand the memory capacity - there is no slot for an SD card, this is a drawback of the model.

Peculiarities

Lenovo Vibe Z2 runs Android 4.4.4 OS, with an update to 5.0 Lollipop expected in the second quarter of 2015. As features, we note a metal body, support for two SIM cards, LTE, NFC and an 8 MP front camera. The proprietary interface does not have a separate list of applications, and the settings are divided into system and special. In the latter you can find many unusual functions: from turning on the display with a double tap to automatically increasing the ringer volume when the smartphone is in your pocket. The phone comes pre-installed with applications for popular social networks, services from Google and Yandex, Explorer, Security application, SYNCit for Reserve copy contacts, SMS messages and call log, as well as SHAREit for sharing data with other devices via Wi-Fi.

Competitors

Average price for mobile Lenovo phone Vibe Z2 at the end of spring 2015 - 23,500 rubles. Competitors include Huawei Ascend G7, Sony Xperia C3 and Huawei Honor 4X. All of them are cheaper than Lenovo, but, by and large, they are in no way inferior to it. All have LTE support, mid-level chipsets and their own features. The Sony Xperia C3 also has NFC, but the body and camera materials are simpler. But it has a front camera with flash. Honor 4X is made of plastic, the only one of its competitors discharged faster than the Vibe Z2, it does not have an NFC chip, but it also costs half as much. The Ascend G7 is a metal competitor with similar specs. It is slightly larger and heavier, and costs less. Among its competitors, Lenovo Vibe Z2 stands out for its relative compactness, 8 MP front camera, support for dual-band Wi-Fi and a higher price.
