The phone is not slippery at all, but it does get easily soiled. Therefore, it is better to carry it in the case that is included in the kit. The device runs on the Snapdragon 632, which may cause disappointment for many, but it is hardly inferior to the 660 model, the difference is noticeable in benchmarks and very productive games. The prices of most frameless smartphones, alas, “bite painfully.” An affordable alternative to expensive models is the Sony Xperia XA smartphone, for which domestic sellers ask a little more than ten thousand rubles.

The inexpensive gadget Xperia XA does not offer anything revolutionary new and does not encroach on records, but it is made very well. Sony developers deserve praise primarily for the well-thought-out ergonomics of the Xperia XA - the device fits perfectly in the hand, and after long-term use there is no discomfort in the hand. The material from which the gadget’s body is made is matte plastic. There is a minimum of metal here, however, even being plastic, the smartphone looks so that you immediately want to pick it up.

The obvious advantage of the Sony Xperia XA is its front camera, which boasts a fairly high resolution (8 megapixels), autofocus and the ability to record FullHD video. But the shooting quality of the rear camera does not cause a “wow” effect: photos from it are of an average level - despite useful “bonuses”, such as hybrid autofocus and the function of tracking a moving object.

Experts say the main disadvantage of a frameless smartphone from Sony is the inflated price/functionality ratio. Considering that the Xperia XA runs on an antediluvian processor, has a mediocre screen and a weak battery, its cost should be even lower.

The Chinese gadget is made exclusively from premium materials (metal and glass - no plastic), equipped with a SuperAMOLED display, which, despite its low resolution, provides a bright and juicy picture, and “under the hood” has the latest processor from MTK. Unlike the Xperia XA, the Doogee Mix boasts a dual rear camera and a capacious battery, which, thanks to Quick Charge technology, can be recharged to 80% in just half an hour.

The main disadvantage of the budget device from Doogee seems to be its inaccessibility. It is unlikely that you will be able to find a smartphone in the windows of Russian showrooms; you will have to order it from China.

Elephone S7 is a copy of Samsung S7 Edge not entirely correct. The manufacturer from the Middle Kingdom still “intercepted” some of the design elements from the Korean giant, but overall the Elephone S7 is quite an original device, only slightly inferior in popularity to Samsung.

The main reason for the high sales of the S7 becomes obvious at the first glance at the Chinese smartphone - it is really very beautiful! The case is not entirely metal: only the ends of the device are made of metal, while the back cover is made of glossy plastic, but this does not in any way reduce the cost of the device’s appearance. After Xiaomi unexpectedly released the frameless Mi Mix, many manufacturers followed suit and began releasing their smartphones with minimal frames. Companies have begun to reduce the thickness of side panels to zero, and looking at the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8, it seems that the South Korean giant is doing this very well.

The panels above and below the screen are gradually becoming smaller, but there are no such huge successes here. I will also note that the proportionality of the sides also changes; for the most famous brands it is 18:9 and 18.5:9.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+

The Galaxy S8 came out earlier this year with an “infinity display.” There are virtually no bezels on either side of the screen, as the display itself is slightly curved. To make the display even more impressive, the company has made it taller. With a 5.8-inch panel, the width of the device is only 68.1 mm, which is even less than that of 5-inch smartphones; moreover, you can find 4.5-inch panels with a larger width.

The Galaxy S8 is 148.9mm tall and 8mm thick. The model has a high screen-to-body ratio of 83.6%. In addition to its large size, the display has a high resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels.

Everything inside is also top notch. Let me remind you that this is the first flagship based on Snapdragon 835 released this year. However, it is worth noting that in most markets the smartphone is equipped with Exynos 8895. The performance of the two chips is approximately at the same level.

The device was also equipped with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory, expandable via memory cards. There is an 8 MP camera on the front panel and a 12 MP camera on the back. Inside there is a 3000 mAh battery with support for fast and wireless charging.

This year the South Korean giant managed to announce another flagship with a frameless design, the Galaxy Note 8. The main differences from the previous two smartphones are the presence of an S Pen stylus and a dual camera with 2x optical zoom.

The dual camera consists of two 12 megapixel sensors, each with optical stabilization, while other manufacturers only have optical stabilization in one module.

The smartphone also differs from the Galaxy S8 series in its larger screen size (6.3 inches) and more RAM (6 GB), as well as another battery capacity of 3300 mAh. Dimensions: 162.5 x 74.6 x 8.5 mm. The screen-to-body ratio is 82.98%.

LG V30

LG V30, like Note 8, has just been presented, but very soon it will also go on sale. The smartphone has a 6-inch display with a screen resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels. Unlike Samsung, LG decided to use flat displays because screens with curved edges are easier to damage.

Everything else is no worse than the others: dual camera, 4 GB + 64 GB memory, fast and wireless charging, waterproof according to IP68 certificate.

In addition, this model has more budget versions with the same frameless design: Q6, Q6+ and Q6a. All three smartphones are equipped with 16 MP main and 5 MP front cameras.

They are powered by Snapdragon 435. The display is 5-inch and has a lower resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. They differ in the amount of memory.

Essential PH-1

The Essential PH-1 is the first smartphone from Andy Rubin's team, which previously worked at the origins of the Android OS. The main highlight of the device was the ability to install a 360-degree camera on it. For this purpose, there are special Click connectors on the rear panel.

The 360-degree camera consists of 2 12 MP sensors with fish-eye lenses with an f/1.8 aperture. However, it is sold as a separate accessory.

As for the smartphone itself, it is equipped with a 5.71" LTPS IPS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1312 pixels. Inside there is a Snapdragon 835, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory, as well as a 3040 mAh battery. At the back there is a dual camera of two 13 megapixels sensors with f/1.9 aperture Dimensions: 141.5 x 71.1 x 7.8 mm Screen-to-body ratio 84.9%.

UMIDIGI Crystal

If the devices described above primarily belong to the flagship class, then UMIDIGI Crystal is a real budget device. The fact is that pre-orders for the smartphone are still open, and the basic version with 2 GB + 16 GB costs $109.99. The 4 GB + 64 GB model is $30 more expensive.

UMIDIGI Crystal has virtually no frames on the top and sides; the front camera, which is usually located above the screen, has been moved to the very bottom. The 5.5-inch display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. Unlike Samsung and LG, UMIDIGI decided not to change the proportionality of the screen.

This is primarily due to the fact that the vast majority of modern video has a 16:9 ratio. Therefore, if a manufacturer made Crystal with an aspect ratio of approximately 2:1, then additional algorithms would have to be used to convert the content, otherwise the videos would not occupy the entire screen. As a result, the device has a fairly large width of 74.8 mm.

The thickness and height are 8.1 and 141.3 mm, respectively. The manufacturer claims that the screen-to-body ratio is 88%.

At the back, the smartphone has a dual camera consisting of 13 megapixel and 5 megapixel sensors. Inside the UMIDIGI Crystal is a 1.5GHz 8-core Mediatek chip and a 3000mAh battery. Android 7.0 OS is pre-installed, in which Russian and Ukrainian languages ​​are available. Plus there is a fingerprint scanner and Gorilla Glass 4 coating.

The only thing that’s confusing is that deliveries were supposed to begin on August 25, it’s already the beginning of September, and the company is still accepting pre-orders.

UMIDIGI S2 and S2 Pro

UMIDIGI didn’t think one frameless smartphone was enough and announced the UMIDIGI S2 and S2 Pro. They currently start at $229.99, but they offer much more than the UMIDIGI Crystal.

Firstly, there is a new 2:1 aspect ratio, and the 6-inch screen takes up 90% of the front panel. Secondly, the battery has a capacity of 5100 mAh and provides 2 days of operation. Thirdly, the smartphone has a dual camera with a Sony IMX258 sensor. This alone is enough to buy the UMIDIGI S2 or S2 Pro, but it also has USB-C, fast charging, a 98% metal body and Gorilla Glass 4.

Both versions differ in the amount of memory and processor. Inside the S2 there is 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM, Helio P20 with a frequency of 2.3 GHz. S2 Pro 6GB + 64GB and Helio P25. Dimensions: 158.1 x 74.6 x 8.8 mm.

Homtom S8

Homtom S8 is at the pre-order stage and is a budget device; it can now be ordered for $170. The front panel is similar to the UMIDIGI S2, and judging by the name, it tries to emulate the Galaxy S8. However, there is a 5.7" display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 2:1.

Inside is a Mediatek MT6750T chipset, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM with support for memory cards up to 128 GB. There is a 13 MP camera on the front, and two Sony sensors on the back with a resolution of 16 MP and 5 MP.

At the intersection of top brand smartphones and budget smartphones, which we will consider in the second half of the article, there is Xperia XA - a frameless device from SONY for 18 thousand rubles. The design of the XA is really not bad; it is made of matte plastic with metal side frames. Thanks to its elongated shape, the smartphone fits perfectly in the hand.

But traditionally, SONY is not modest with the price tag for its devices. The Xperia XA raises a number of questions when considering its price/functionality ratio: the smartphone runs on a weak Helio P10 processor, has 16/2 GB of memory, an IPS screen with a resolution of 1280*720 pixels and a modest 2300 mAh battery.

The advantages of the Xperia XA are a good camera, the presence of separate slots for SIM and Micro-SD, as well as its appearance. Cons: Poor performance, short battery life, and quiet main speaker. We can only recommend this device to fans of the Japanese company.

For $170, which the S7 now costs, this is a very good choice for those who want to purchase a fashion smartphone. The Elephone S7 has a cool design, decent performance and a good screen, the only drawbacks are weak dynamics and mediocre battery life.

Super Edge from UMi is a metal smartphone with small side frames priced at $180. This is a fairly large and weighty device, the thickness of which is almost 9 mm and the weight is 190 grams. This Chinese device uses a 5.5” screen from SHARP, it is a good IPS matrix with Full HD resolution.

The performance for the money is decent; the smartphone runs on an 8-core Helio P10 chip, has 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal memory and a Micro-SD slot. The resolution of the main camera is as much as 21 MP, the front one is 8 MP. Low-light performance is mediocre, but you can get some great photos during the day.

The only complaint about the gadget is the lack of an oleophobic coating on the display, which is why it collects a lot of fingerprints. In all other respects, this is a very decent and inexpensive smartphone.

Ulefone Future's characteristics are almost completely identical to the smartphone from UMI discussed above. It has a similar 5.5’’ Full HD screen, Helio P10, and 32/4 GB of memory. The differences are only in more modest cameras - 15 and 5 MP, but the Future is equipped with a two-tone flash.

Among the advantages of this model, we highlight the use of pure Android as an operating system. So if you want to get an inexpensive frameless smartphone that is not littered with proprietary shells from the manufacturer, this is a very good option. Price – from 160 dollars.

Edge is a very beautiful, balanced and relatively inexpensive smartphone from ZUK, a sub-brand of the well-known Lenovo company. But if flashing your smartphone is a common thing for you, then this gadget will be an excellent purchase. Among the features, we also note the ceramic body, which readily collects fingerprints, and noticeable heating under load, which does not allow you to fully reveal all the gaming abilities of the 821 dragon, however, any ZUK Edge toys can be pulled at maximum speed without any problems.
