Creating a Windows 10 system backup. Backup using dism

A backup of the operating system will be useful to the user if he decides to restore the previous state of the OS from an image, or if an unexpected situation occurs in which the computer fails. In both cases, standard utilities from Microsoft and several third-party free programs will be useful. Let's figure out how to backup Windows 10.

You can easily create a backup using built-in Windows tools. However, in terms of functionality and capabilities, standard operating system utilities are much inferior to third-party programs, so applications for archiving and recovery from independent developers will be considered below. So, you can reserve the OS using:

  • built-in Windows 10 wizard;
  • third party programs.

The article will also discuss instructions for restoring from a backup with a detailed description of the steps.

We use standard OS functionality

You can create a backup on the hard drive itself if there is free space, or place it on an external drive. The second option is convenient if your hard drive turns out to be completely faulty. You can restore the operating system by simply connecting a flash drive/inserting a disk and performing the necessary operations.

Windows uses the concept of a "system image" instead of a backup. To access the Backup Wizard, you must complete the following steps:

  1. Open Control Panel.
  1. Select the “Category” view type and open the “Backup and Restore” subsection.
  1. Here you need to select the “Create a system image” option.
  1. Now you need to specify the location of the future backup. You can select the current hard drive (if the hard drive is completely damaged, in addition to personal data, the backup will also be lost), a separate DVD drive, or a network folder (saving a backup on the network will not be 100% secure). After selecting a location, click Next.
  1. On the new screen you will see a list of those sections that will be archived. To start the procedure, click on the “Archive” button.

You can configure backup settings in detail, enable or disable saving archives as follows:

  1. You must be in the same “Backup and Restore” window. In it, click on the “Set up backup” button.
  1. At the first stage, select the location where all backups will be stored.
  1. By checking the second box, you can independently determine from which files the backup copy will be created.
  1. Select data files and a local drive to archive all existing information.
  1. On the next screen, click on the “Change Schedule” button to configure the time and date for creating the archive.
  1. Finally, click on the marked button to start the automatic archiving process.

You can manually delete archived files from the WindowsImageBackup folder using an administrator account.

You can do all the described actions through DISM.exe on the command line. This method is less convenient, but it may be useful to you.

Creating a backup via DISM

You can launch the standard utility through Windows 10 recovery mode. To open the recovery environment, follow the described algorithm:

  1. Open Settings.
  1. Next, go to “Update and Security.”
  1. In a new window, open the “Recovery” section. Click on the “Reboot Now” button.

You can also go to the OS recovery environment using the Windows 10 lock screen. Click on the power icon while holding down the Shift key.

After the reboot, you will see a menu in front of you. In it you need to go to “Troubleshooting” – “Advanced options” – “Command line”.

The usual cmd window will appear in front of you. You must enter the following:

  1. Commands "diskpart", "list volume". By the name label, determine which of the disks is the system one and which one is for saving the backup. For example, the system drive is marked with the letter E, and for backup – with the letter D.
  1. Now use the "exit" command to exit the previous menu. Next, enter “dism /Capture-Image /ImageFile:D:\Win10Image.wim /CaptureDir:E:\ /Name:”Windows 10” and press Enter.
  1. After some time has passed, you will see a message indicating that the operation was completed successfully.

Restoring the OS from a backup

You can also use the created restore point through the graphical interface or DISM. Let's look at the first option first:

  1. First of all, you need to open the Windows Recovery Environment. Read above for information on how to do this. Then open the "System Image Restore" section, which is located in the advanced options. In this case, a backup drive must be connected to the computer.
  1. You will see the presented window on the screen. You can entrust the procedure to the recovery wizard (1) or select the OS image manually (2).
  1. Select the partitions to overwrite and wait until the installation is complete, then restart your computer.

Let's look at the same operation via the command line in the recovery environment. Open DISM again using the above method. If your hard drive is working properly and the entire partition structure is preserved, then use the following method:

  1. Enter the commands “diskpart” and “list volume” in turn. After the second command, remember the section numbers from the list (take a photo or write it down).
  1. Now enter “select volume N”. Instead of the letter “N”, you must substitute the number of the system partition (the “Volume” column). Next, use “format fs=ntfs quick” to format the volume with the operating system. Exit the menu with "exit".
  2. Now enter the line “dism /apply-mage /imagefile:D:\Win10Image.wim /index:1 /ApplyDir:E:\” if the saved OS image is called “Win10Image.wim” and is located on drive D, and the recovery partition marked with the letter E. Modify the line using this analogy to suit your situation and run the process with the Enter key.
  1. Restart your PC after the “Operation completed successfully” message appears.

Third party programs

Let's move on to a description of the functionality of third-party applications. The following popular options for creating and restoring backups will be discussed below:

  • Macrium Reflect Free;
  • Aomei Backupper Standard.

Similar software is used to restore the OS on mobile devices using the Windows Device Recovery Tool.

Macrium Reflect Free

This utility is free and can be downloaded from the creator's website. To create a backup, use the following guide:

  1. On the main screen of the program, select the required sections and click on the “Actions” button. In the menu, select “Image this partition only”.
  1. To restore files, go to the “Restore” tab. Click on the “Path” button and specify the path to the directory with the image. To start the operation, click on “Start Restore”.

You can start the system image recovery process using the presented programs. But if your OS is damaged and does not start, you will have to use Windows 10 LiveCD (an operating system that can be loaded via external media without installation). Through it you can connect a drive with an OS image and restore your PC using one of the presented programs.

Bottom line

Carefully choose where to save your Windows 10 backups. It is not recommended to leave backups on the main hard drive, as you risk losing everything beyond recovery if the hardware fails.

Video

Using the video, you can learn more about the procedure for creating backup copies of Windows 10 and understand those points that remained unclear while reading the article.

The Windows 10 operating system continues to delight us with new and interesting features. This time the “System Backup” function is available to us; in other words, we will be able to create a copy (image) of the system, which is usually used to restore the computer if any failure occurs.

The copy kit contains drivers and important files necessary to start the system, as well as all programs installed by the user. This way, you can return the system to the moment when the Windows backup was created.

This function is greatly superior, as it allows you to fully operate.

It is advisable that you make a backup copy immediately after installing Windows OS, because over time you install a lot of programs, the disk space is already occupied, and accordingly the copy of the system will be more massive and take up more space, although you can create it on an external drive . In general, install the system and a couple of important programs, and then make a backup copy.

We'll look at two ways to create a copy: using the built-in function and third-party software. Go.

How to create a backup of Windows 10?

Finally we move on to the important process. Creating a backup copy of Windows 10 is a very important point, which is necessary to resuscitate your system if something happens. The tenth version provides a function and here’s how to use it:

  • Click on search on the taskbar and enter the phrase there "Backup" and then click on the result that appears.
  • A window will open where you need to click on the link on the left "Creating a system image";

  • Another window will open, this time the backup program. There we select the location where it will be saved, for example, a hard drive, flash drive, DVD. Choose a convenient option and click "Further";

  • Next we are asked to select the partitions that will be included in the backup. The system partition is usually selected by default; if not, then be sure to select it. Prepare a drive of sufficient size to accommodate the backup files;

  • When you have selected all the sections that are important to you, you can click the button "Archive";
  • If you have a lot of data on your computer, creating a backup copy will take a long time.

When archiving is completed, the system will offer the option of creating a recovery disk, which is needed for unexpected unfortunate problems with the system.

How to restore Windows 10 using a backup?

Now we already have everything we need for restoration, let’s now show how this process occurs. You need to do a few simple steps:

  • We take the recovery disk or other drive used for this purpose that you created;
  • Take a boot disk or USB flash drive with Windows 10 and boot from it. Select an item "System Restore";
  • You can also enter recovery mode from Windows. To do this, you need to go to Start, go to the Shutdown item and, while holding down the SHIFT key, restart the computer; do not release the key until a blue window with parameters appears;

Choose a section "Extra options" and find the item there "System Image Restore". You may be asked to select your account and enter a password. Let's do it.

The recovery utility will start working. It will search for the image on the disk. If your image is located on an external drive, then you can specify the path to it.

After selecting the image, click the button "Further". We will go to the next window where you can format partitions or install any drivers. If you need to leave everything unchanged, just click "Further".

In the last couple we must indicate the username, time. Then click the “Finish” button, after which a confirmation window for our action will appear, it will say that the data from the image disk will be deleted. We confirm the action.

All that remains is to wait for the end of the process, which can last several minutes or several hours. At the end of the process, you will see your usual operating system window.

How to backup Windows 10 using AOMEI BACKUPPER?

Now we've moved on to software that can make the process even better. To create a backup, I preferred the AOMEI Backupper utility, since it is free and everything you need is included in the functionality.

Making a backup in AOMEI Backupper

  1. To get started, download the utility from the official website and install;
  2. Launch Backupper and click on the partition "Backup", where you need to select the item "System Backup";

  1. In the next step we can call our copy something, and in paragraph "Step2" select the location where the backup will be created. There is a button just below "Backup Option"— fine settings item. If you do not have experience working with such programs, then it is better not to change anything there;

  1. After such a small number of steps completed, the creation of a Windows backup will begin. The exact time cannot be said here, it all depends on the speed of your disk.

After the process is completed, the backup image will be created and placed in the location you specified.

How to restore Windows 10 from a backup created by AOMEI Backupper?

System recovery can only be done using this program, because it was in it that you backed up Windows. You can run it both from Windows and from a bootable drive. The second option is the most preferable, especially since Windows cannot always be loaded.

How to make a bootable USB flash drive AOMEI Backupper?

  • The best option would be to use a flash drive, which you must first insert into the USB connector of your laptop or computer; if there is none, then take any DVD;
  • Launch AOMEI Backupper and select the partition "Utilities";
  • Now select the “Create Bootable Media” section;

  • A window will open in which we are asked to create a boot disk based on Windows or Linux. Select the option that is most convenient for you and click the button "Next";

  • When selecting the Linux option, we will be asked to select the drive used as boot drive. After selecting the disk or flash drive, press the button again "Next";

  • In no more than a minute, the boot disk/flash drive with AOMEI Backupper will be ready, and you can start from this disk. When the process is complete, do not forget to press the button "Finish".

Sometimes the operating system may not boot, but since we have a disk with the AOMEI Backupper utility, by booting from it we can restore the system to a working state from the backup we created.

After booting from AOMEI Backupper, you will see exactly the same window as when you launch the program from Windows. Go to item "Restore", and then click on the button "Path". Select a recovery image, sometimes it will be detected automatically.

We look at what settings the program offers us, if everything is fine, then press the button "Start Restore".

The process of restoring system partitions will begin. Wait a certain amount of time, after which Windows 10 will boot normally.

If there is something you don’t understand, write about it in the comments.

The standard functionality of bringing Windows back to life in critical situations, if the system has crashed or even does not boot at all, is not particularly popular. Microsoft itself involuntarily contributed to the fact that ordinary users did not find this tool in the jungle of system settings. Even in the version of Windows 10, where important system settings are moved to the Settings application, in the Update and Security section you will only see the option and mode with special boot options, which allows you to restore Windows from a system image, essentially from a backup copy. But the function of creating this very system image must be looked for inside the control panel, preferably under the guidance of step-by-step instructions. This will be given below. In this article, we will look at how to create a backup copy of Windows 10 using its standard functionality and how the system recovery process occurs.

1. Standard Windows 10 backup functionality

Windows 10 inherited the standard backup function from Windows Vista. Like third-party backup programs, a backup created using the built-in functionality is a snapshot of the system with all its settings, boot sector, installed programs and user files stored on the system disk.

All this can be restored from a backup if Windows fails. Even if the system stops booting, you can return it to functionality from the recovery environment, called up by pressing the F8 key when the computer boots. In this environment, you can begin the process of returning the system to its backup state. You can get into the recovery environment for Windows 10 that won’t boot, if not by calling the F8 key, then in two other ways. The Windows 10 recovery environment is included in the system installation disc. For critical cases, you can specially prepare a Windows recovery disk; this is provided by the standard functionality of the system.

In terms of options for calling the recovery environment for non-booting Windows, the standard functionality as a backup tool outperforms third-party backup programs. But this is his only winning moment. In all other respects, the native functionality, alas, is far from perfect.

However, backing up Windows and restoring it using the standard functionality is the basics for those who want to master the potential of the Microsoft operating system.

2. Creating a system image

In Windows itself, the term “backup”, as in third-party backup programs, is not used, but the concept of “system image” is used. For the function of creating this very image, let's go to the control panel. To do this, we will use the context menu on the “Start” button.

In the “System and Security” section of the control panel, we need the “Backup and Restore Windows 7” subsection.

You can directly get to this subsection using a system search.

Click “Create a system image.”

Next will be a window for choosing where to store the image. This could be a non-system disk partition, another hard drive (internal or external), or network resources. It is even possible to store a system image on multiple DVDs. In our case, the partition on the second connected hard drive is selected. This is a good option for choosing a place to store important data, such as a backup copy of the operating system. In the future, Windows will be able to be restored even if the main hard drive on which the system partition is located fails. Click “Next”.

The standard functionality provides not only for copying the system partition with Windows; copies of existing non-system disk partitions can be included in the image. Backing up non-system data using native Windows functionality is not the best way to ensure the safety of this data due to irrational use of disk space. Still, to backup user data, it is better to resort to third-party software. Therefore, in our case, the system image will include a preinstalled configuration - a partition with Windows and space reserved by the system. Click “Next”.

In the confirmation window for archiving parameters, click “Archive”.

When the image creation process is completed, Windows 10 itself will offer to prepare a recovery disk for the future.

You should not refuse this offer if you are dealing with a computer device with a CD/DVD drive. And, of course, if you have an empty CD or DVD available. If serious problems arise with the system, booting from the recovery disk will be easier than pressing the F8 key when booting the computer. The response time of this key is difficult to catch due to the reduced startup time of Windows 10. System version 10 inherited this feature from version 8.

After inserting a blank CD/DVD into the drive, click “Create Disc”.

You can return to the process of creating a Windows recovery disc at any other time. In the control panel window from which we began the process of creating a system image, there is a button “Create a system repair disk.”

Close the system image creation window.

That's it - now the system image will be safely stored until there is no need to resuscitate Windows 10.

If there is a problem with the system, the first thing you will need to do is get to its recovery environment. It is in this environment that you will have the opportunity to apply the newly created image.

3. Paths to Windows Recovery Environment

Working system

If you have problems with Windows 10, but they do not affect its ability to boot, you can get to the recovery environment by using the Settings application. In "Settings" select "Update and Security".

F8 key

If Windows does not boot, you can try to get into the recovery environment using the method mentioned above using the F8 key. The key must be pressed before the Windows logo appears.

Windows 10 installation disc

The recovery environment for your current system is included with its installation disc. Naturally, we are talking about the official installation disk of Windows 10. Installation disks with “homemade” builds of Windows can only be intended for a clean installation of a new system and do not contain functionality for restoring the current system. After booting from a flash drive or DVD with the Windows 10 distribution, go through the welcome window.

Recovery disk

Windows 10 being unable to boot is a case of using the recovery disk mentioned above. We boot from it and press any key to continue booting from the CD/DVD.

Selecting a keyboard layout

4. Windows Recovery

Using any of the methods discussed above, we will get to the action selection menu. In this menu, select the “Diagnostics” section, and in it – “Advanced parameters”.

The next step is “Restore the system image.” This is the standard tool for restoring Windows 10 from a backup.

The system is preparing for the recovery process.

A step-by-step wizard for restoring Windows from a system image will launch. By default, the last image created will be selected. But if the system needs to be restored from an earlier image, you must manually specify the path to it. Click “Next”.

Now click “Finish”.

We confirm the start of the Windows recovery process and wait for it to complete.

After successful completion, reboot the computer.

That's it - Windows 10 will return to the state it was in when the image was created. The system will have the same settings, the same installed programs, the same user files on drive C.

Have a great day!

A backup or system backup is an image of Windows 10 that contains a complete installation of the operating system with settings for applications, services, games and personal files. The System Image Backup tool was added in Windows 8.1. The disadvantage of a system backup is that it is impossible to restore a particular file separately.

Method number 1. Using the standard utility

You can back up a Windows 10 disk using the built-in Backup and Restore utility, which is located in the Control Panel.

Having opened this element, select “Create a system image” in the left menu.

In the next window, you should select the storage location for the Windows 10 backup. For this purpose, you can use a flash drive, a separate SSD or HDD drive, or a network folder. In the utility, check the “Hard disk” box, select the drive from the list and click “Next”.

By default, drive C and the “System Reserved” partition will be added for archiving. You can also add drive D. Click “Archive”.

Once the backup is complete, a notification will appear asking you to make a backup or system recovery disc. Click “Yes”.

After a few minutes (from 20 minutes), a system backup will be created. We disconnect the flash drive and use it as needed.

Method number 2. Creating a System Repair Disk Using DISM Utility

To create an OS Windows 10 recovery image using the built-in DISM.exe utility, do the following:

  • Right-click on the Start menu and select “Command Prompt (Admin).”

  • On the command line, enter in order:
  • diskpart;
  • list volume (remember the disk with Windows 10);
  • exit;
  • Dism /Capture-Image /ImageFile:D:\my-softikbox.wim /CaptureDir:C:\ /Name:"Windows"

my-softikbox.wim: - this is the name of the copy of the disk image with Windows 10 (you can set your parameters, just leave the .wim extension).

D:\ is the location where the image is saved.

C:\ - partition with installed partition with installed operating system.

The image will be saved on drive D with the name my-softikbox.wim.

Method No. 3. Backing up a disk using LiveCD Aomei Backupper Standard

Making a backup of Windows 10 using this program is quite simple. You need to download it from the website and run it on your PC. Next we do the following:

  • Select the “Backup” section and the “System Backup” option.

  • Enter the name of the Windows 10 backup. You also need to specify the drive where you can save the image. Then click “Start copying”.

  • The image creation process will begin.

How to restore Windows 10 using a system backup?

If you need to restore drive C after a critical error and you have previously made an image of Windows 10 through the “Backup and Restore” utility in the “Control Panel”, perform the following steps:

  • Click “Start”, go to the “Shutdown” section, hold down the “Shift” button and click “Restart”. The computer will restart and the Advanced Options menu will appear. Select "System Image Restore".

  • A new window will open. The system will start searching for the backup file. Therefore, the flash drive or disk must be connected to the PC. You can also manually specify the storage location for the disk image.

  • At the next stage, the system will prompt you to select partitions to format.

  • Next, system recovery from the image will begin.

If you created an image using the DISM.exe utility, restoring Windows 10 should be done as follows:

  • Enter diskpart in the command line with administrator rights;
  • list volume and remember the letter of drive C and the “Reserved by the system” partition;
  • select volume 2, where 2 is the number of the system disk;
  • format fs=ntfs quick – format command.

  • select volume 1 – where 1 is the number of the “Reserved by the system” section;
  • format fs=FS quick - where FS is the current file system of the partition;
  • assign letter=Z (we assign the letter Z to the section, it will be needed later);
  • exit;
  • dism /apply-mage /imagefile:D:\my-softikbox.wim /index:1 /ApplyDir:E:\, where my-softikbox.wim is a system backup, D is its storage location and E is the partition where we restore , that is, drive C.
  • bcdboot E:\Windows /s Z:, where E is the system drive with Windows 10, and Z is the “System Reserved” partition.
  • Diskpart;
  • select volume 1 – section “Reserved by the system”;
  • remove letter=Z – to remove the letter of the reserved partition;

After rebooting the PC, Windows 10 will be restored from the image.

If you backed up Windows 10 using the Aomei Backupper Standard program, restore it as follows:

  • Launch the program and go to the “Restore” section. If the disk with the copy is connected to the PC or the copy was saved to disk D, then the program itself will find and set the correct path to the backup file. Otherwise, you will have to specify the path yourself.

  • Click “Start Restore”.

You can also create a Windows 10 backup image using other programs.

To learn how to create a backup copy of Windows 10, watch the video:

The article describes how to backup Windows 10 using the tools integrated into it and using free applications. It is necessary to perform system recovery in the event of a critical situation or when Windows needs to be reinstalled.

Windows 10 backup is a comprehensive image of the system volume with drivers, installed applications and user documents. This image is used to return the system to the state it was in at the time the copy was created. Reanimation takes much less time than a clean installation of Windows 10 with all the software and configuration. This method of reinstalling the system is ideal for beginners: once you have solved all the problems, reserve the system and use it as much as you like.

Windows 10 backup with built-in tools

Microsoft took care of introducing into the top ten several tools created for the purpose of creating backup copies of the operating system. The first method we will consider is creating an OS image, which will be useful for restoring it through the Control Panel applet.

To call the tool, enter “backup” in the search bar and call “Backup/Restore.”

Second option: in the Control Panel, call up the “File History” applet, where we follow the “System image backup” link.

In a new window, call the command to create a system image.

We specify the storage for recording a backup copy of the current snapshot of the operating system (any magnetic/solid-state drive, including network or removable drive).

We indicate the partitions that will be added to the backup. Without changing the configuration, system volumes with reserved volumes (stored by the bootloader) are added to the archive.

Click on the button to start archiving and wait for the operation to complete, which will last about half an hour. At the end of the process, you will be prompted to create system recovery media if bootable media is not available. It will be needed when resuscitating the “tens” from the created image.

How to use the received archive?

Rolling back the system partition to the state captured in the archive is performed in the Windows recovery environment. You can log into it from under the OS itself, with administrator privileges, from a recovery drive, which it was proposed to create earlier, or from a bootable USB flash drive.

  1. Call “Settings”, in the “Update/Security” section click on the “Recovery” icon. In the right frame, click “Restart now”. Another way to get into the tens intensive care environment is to click on the computer restart button in Start while holding down the Shift button.
  2. If you have an installation flash drive, boot from it via the Boot Menu. Having selected the language, in the window with the “Install” button, click “System Restore”.
  3. Starting your PC from the recovery disk will immediately launch the desired mode.

In the window, click on the troubleshooting/troubleshooting item, and in the additional options, click on “Restore system image.”

If you have an external HDD, the program will begin searching for images on it. If the option is not suitable, specify the appropriate file manually.

Depending on the number of backup volumes, a window will appear or not (usually the system disk is archived and such a proposal does not pop up) for selecting disks, the contents of which will be replaced with the data in the image.

After confirming the operation, the program will restore the partition captured in the archive, and then launch Windows 10.

Creating a Windows 10 disk archive using the DISM utility

The operating system has a DISM console utility. Its tasks are to backup and restore the system from a created copy. The program works in the same way as the previously described method, but without a graphical interface (actions are carried out through command line control). To use the utility, boot into the Windows recovery environment, as described in the section above, only select “Command Prompt” instead of System Restore. Enter a list of the following commands:

1. diskpart - call a utility for working with HDD partitions;

2. list volume - determine the label of the Windows partition and the volume where the backup will be performed;

3. exit - close the application.

The next step is to execute the command

“dism /Capture-Image /ImageFile:D:\WindMicrosoft.wim /CaptureDir:E:\ /Name:”Windows10I””

D - volume or archive storage path, E - active system volume.

When the operation is completed, the message “Operation completed successfully” will appear.

Restoring "ten" via DISM

The state of the system volume is rolled back to that captured in the image by first formatting it. Make sure that personal files are copied to another drive or logical partition before deploying the image.

Option No. 1 - recovery while preserving the HDD markup.

1. As before, call the console in the recovery environment.

2. Execute the commands:

  • diskpart;
  • list volume - write down or remember the letter designation, file system of the reserved volume;
  • select volume N - indicate the number of the system disk;
  • format fs=ntfs quick - we quickly format it to NTFS.

3. Execute “dism /apply-mage /imagefile:D:\WindMicrosoft.wim /index:1 /ApplyDir:E:\” to restore the system partition D from the WindMicrosoft.wim file on partition E.

Close the console and reboot to boot into Windows 10.

Reserving “tens” through Aomei Backupper Standard

Let's look at how to create a backup copy of Windows 10 through a third-party application that is distributed free of charge.

1. After launching the program, in the “Backup” tab, select the type of backup to be created.

In our case, this is the “System Backup” option - backing up Windows files or volumes with it.

2. Write the name of the backup in the “Task Name” form, select the partitions to be copied below, and in Step 2 indicate the location to store the image (adjacent volume, removable drive or network storage).

3. Click on the “Start Backup” button and do not touch anything until the process is completed.

Through the application, the OS is also returned to any of the captured states, both through the program interface and through bootable media with Aomei Backupper, which acts as a Windows resuscitation tool. You can create such a flash drive through the “Utilities” menu, where we select “Create Bootable Media”.

After booting from the media with Aomei Backupper, you will see the classic interface of the utility. On the “Restore” tab, select the path to the image in the “Path” item and click “Next”.

We check whether the image deployment destination is selected correctly and click “Start Restore” to start the recovery procedure.

The application is downloaded from the page www.backup-utility.com.

Macrium Reflect Free

The Macrium Reflect utility, free for non-commercial use, is designed to work with backups and images of any drive. Operation of the application is not much different from Aomei Backupper Standard, except clicks on buttons and links are carried out in a different graphical environment.

From the main menu, select “Backup”, then click on the “Backup Windows” item.

  1. Check the boxes for the sections that will be backed up.
  2. Set the directory for recording the archive.

There are two ways to restore Windows 10 from an image: through the application interface running in the OS environment, and using a bootable USB flash drive based on Macrium Reflect. It is created in the “Other Tasks” menu. To record boot files, click “Create Rescue Media” after connecting the flash drive. During the recording process, about 510 MB of files will be downloaded from the Internet.

The application can be downloaded from www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx.

In addition to the above programs, there are a number of similar applications for performing the task in question, for example, the popular ATIH. Windows 10 also has an integrated recovery image for a complete system reset - its quick reinstallation from the interface of the operating system itself. The reset is carried out through the update and security section of the Settings menu. In it, on the “Recovery” tab, click “Start” and follow the instructions.
