Meizu U10 review: an affordable smartphone with a flagship design. Meizu U10 Android with two SIM cards, large screen and powerful characteristics Smartphone meizu u10 16 GB black review

Relatively recently, the Russian representative office of Meizu opened the Meizu club MY+, in which smartphone owners can communicate, learn new information and receive advice from other participants. In addition, club meetings are periodically organized where you can see all Meizu devices live, communicate with other users and company employees, and also receive guaranteed gifts or take part in competitions. It is interesting that the developers of the Flyme shell were present at this meeting; you could ask them any question you were interested in or leave a wish for improving the shell.

The very idea of the club appeared simultaneously at the Russian and Chinese offices. In the Russian representative office, the initiator of the creation of such a club was Roman Stikhanov, who had experience of such meetings at the Asus club, and in China such fan communities have been practicing for a long time, and they simply decided to extend this practice to other countries.

It’s interesting that in Xiaomi Russia after entering Russian market are also organizing a similar fan event on November 1st. I will be at that meeting, and at the same time I will compare the level of the organization.

And yet, the main reason for attending the Meizu club meeting was the opportunity to look at the company’s new products, which it brought especially for its Russian fans. Actually, this good practice- demonstrate new devices to loyal users before the announcement.

There is an interesting story associated with this watch. Initially, the company raised funds for their release through the Chinese equivalent of Kickstarter, and the required amount was found quite quickly. In mid-August, watches began to be sold in China, and only a lazy person did not write about them then.

The idea for Meizu MIX was borrowed from the famous Withings Activite watch model. That is, all the necessary sensors are installed in the body of a traditional watch, but only a standard dial is used. At the club meeting, models with leather and metal straps were shown, they looked really cool.

The watch comes in a beautiful package that opens up like a flower, it seems like nonsense, but it looked original.

The gadget can count your steps, track your sleep, work as a smart alarm clock and notify about calls or messages. At the same time, the built-in battery guarantees up to 240 days of operation on a single charge. And also, if I understand correctly, you can swim in the watch.

The watch will be paired with a separate application, which is very reminiscent of the same Health Mate from Withings.

In China, MIX is sold at the following prices:

  • $150 - basic version with synthetic strap
  • $195 - version with leather strap
  • $225 - version with metal bracelet

The watch will also be sold here, but it is not yet known when and at what price.

The U line expands the lineup Meizu allows users to choose the design they like best. In fact, the U10 and U20 models are complete copies of the M3s Mini and M3 Note, but in a glass case. To my taste, they look much more interesting than the M3, but, as they say, there is no accounting for taste.

U20 is already on sale, the 16 GB version costs 18,000 rubles, 20,000 rubles for the 32 GB version. The younger U10 is currently only available for pre-order at a price of 13,000 rubles for the 16 GB version and 15,000 for the 32 GB version.

Another expansion of the line, the smartphone is very similar in appearance and specs to the M3 Note, but its body uses an aluminum-magnesium alloy. From the point of view of tactile sensations, the body simply became rougher; I did not notice any other changes. Other differences include higher camera quality, support for fast charging and different body colors. Pre-order for the model will be available soon, the price is still unknown.

Everyone who came to the club meeting was given new selfie sticks from Meizu; these cost 590 rubles in the store. I really liked the quality of the handle materials and appearance the stick itself. It doesn't look like cheap plastic, but gives the impression of a quality thing. By the way, this is an excellent inexpensive option for a gift.

Conclusion

I really liked the company’s new watches, however, they will only reach us by the first quarter of next year. But smartphones will be available to buy very soon. By the way, at the meeting you could look at the older Meizu U20, but Roman Belykh already has it in his hands, so you can safely ask Roman questions about this model in the comments.

Externally, the smartphone looks faceless - it does not stand out from its peers.

Once again we have a gadget with a typical budget design, 2.5D glass on the front and back panels and a single navigation key. This combination of elements occurs often, and this will not surprise anyone. For example, you may have already seen a similar design, and the dimensions of both smartphones are similar. However, the Meizu smartphone is distinguished by its metal frame, which makes it much more pleasant to hold in your hand.

Dimensions of Meizu U10 are 141.9 × 69.6 × 8.0 mm, weight – 138 grams. The build quality is not satisfactory - all parts fit tightly, nothing plays or creaks. Unfortunately, this is where the advantages of the case end. According to the manufacturer, the front and back glass of the smartphone is laminated new technology G.F.F. On the one hand, this contributes better protection, but on the other hand, the glass turned out to be glossy and easily dirty. Fingerprints are clearly visible on its surface.

The upper part of the front panel is occupied by the front camera, earpiece and light sensor. Below the display there is a single navigation button with a fingerprint sensor built into it. At the top of the back panel there is a camera with LED flash.

On the left side of the case there is a compartment for nanoSIM and microSIM, combined with a slot for microSD. On the right side are the volume keys and the power button.

On the bottom edge there is a mini-jack connector, a microphone, a microUSB port and slots for a music speaker.

You can buy Meizu U10 in four colors: black (Black), white (White), gold (Champane gold) and pink (Pink).

Screen - 3.9

The situation when a manufacturer installs a fairly high-quality screen in a budget device is not uncommon. We have already seen this, for example, in Meizu M5 and. Meizu U10 also has a good display, but it has some drawbacks.

The device screen resolution is 1280×720 pixels at a density of 294 ppi. This is not the worst indicator for a 5-inch diagonal - individual pixels are practically invisible only if you look closely at the display. Automatic brightness works well, without jumps. The manufacturer claims a maximum brightness of 380 nits, but our measurements showed less - 340 nits. Not the highest value, for example, the recently presented one has a maximum brightness of 400 nits. Under straight lines sun rays The image on the display fades greatly, and the glossy surface of the protective glass causes glare. Because of this, it is almost impossible to see the image on the screen. The minimum screen brightness is only 2 nits, which is very comfortable for use in the dark.

The screen color gamut is 91% of sRGB, color rendition is quite accurate. But the viewing angles, unfortunately, let us down. When looking at the screen from a large angle, the image loses brightness and contrast, although the colors remain virtually unchanged. Whether this is considered a serious drawback is up to you to decide. In our opinion, this is forgivable for a budget device.

In the settings you can set your color temperature; the options are “cold”, “warm” and the average value used by default. The screen also has night mode. It mutes blue tones, thus reducing eye strain when using the gadget in the dark.

Cameras - 2.3

The smartphone is equipped with good cameras of 13 and 5 MP. For a budget device, the shooting quality is not bad, but there are some shortcomings.

The main camera has an f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and LED flash. Let's start with its shortcomings. Automatic white balance can be wrong, causing photos to turn out dark and detail often suffers. In macro mode, focus can take a long time to adjust to the subject and end up catching something completely different from what you wanted. However, in daylight conditions the quality of the images can be called quite good, especially in HDR mode. When there is insufficient lighting, the image loses sharpness and strong noise appears. IN manual mode You can adjust the ISO value from 100 to 1600, as well as shutter speed, exposure compensation, white balance and contrast.

The front camera is good for selfies, but it is also sensitive to light. The detail of the images is quite good, but the color rendition may seem pale to some.

Both cameras record video with a maximum video resolution of 1920x1080 pixels (Full HD).

Working with text - 5.0

Out of the box, Meizu U10 comes pre-installed with two keyboards: system and TouchPal.

In our opinion, TouchPal is quite convenient. It supports continuous input and can load additional languages. There are many settings: design themes, changing the size of the input area, working with the clipboard and voice input. There are separate keys for emoticons and additional symbols.

The system keyboard is much simpler. It does not support continuous input, and its settings are limited to setting the language and theme. There are only two of the latter - dark and light.

Internet - 4.0

The smartphone comes with its own browser preinstalled. It copes with its tasks well - it loads pages quite quickly, and can disable the loading of images. One of his interesting features- night mode. When activated, the contrast of the text changes - instead of the usual dark text on a light background, we get light text on a dark background. This reduces eye strain, although not everyone likes this contrast. In general, the display of website pages is correct and the scaling is smooth.

Communications - 3.8

The set of communications and sensors of Meizu U10 is typical for a modern budget smartphone. One can only complain about the lack of FM radio.

The set of communications is as follows:

  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Dual band
  • Bluetooth v4.0 LE, A2DP
  • GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS
  • USB 2.0, USB On-The-Go
  • accelerometer
  • gyroscope
  • digital compass.

Multimedia - 4.4

The music speaker volume is high. If the phone rings somewhere in a noisy place, for example, on public transport, then you will hear it. The speaker is also quite loud - with telephone conversations the interlocutor's speech can be heard clearly.

The sound in the headphones is not bad. It has a fairly flat response across all audible frequencies. However output power very modest, and any serious smartphones are contraindicated - the sound in them will be quiet and inexpressive. There is a five-band equalizer to customize the sound to suit you.

The video player supports a large number of video formats and a minimum of settings. You can only set the video loop to play or zoom the image.

Battery - 3.3

The autonomy of Meizu U10 cannot be called high, but rather slightly above average. The battery charge is enough for a full day of work under moderate load, but no more. Although for a battery with a capacity of 2760 mAh this is not the worst result.

We tested the device for autonomy and got the following: video plays at maximum brightness for up to 6 hours without interruption, listening to music at a comfortable volume with headphones will last up to 100 hours in a row, and in talk mode the battery runs out from 100% to 0 in about 10 hours. The results look impressive, but they are far from the best. For comparison, autonomy Samsung Galaxy The A3 2017 is significantly taller, although its battery capacity is smaller. Although, as a replacement, a smartphone is quite suitable.

Using the included charger, the phone charges from 0 to 100% in about 2 hours. Fast charging, unfortunately, is not supported.

Productivity - 2.5

There is no need to talk about any high performance of Meizu U10.

The smartphone is equipped with an eight-core Mediatek MT6750 processor with a maximum frequency of up to 1.5 GHz and a Mali-T860MP2 video accelerator. It would seem that with so many cores and 2 or 3 GB random access memory The smartphone should cope well with any task. In reality, everything turned out to be quite depressing. Under load, the processor quickly becomes hot and triggers the throttling function. This feature saves the processor from overheating by reducing the core frequency and skipping computation cycles. As a result, overall performance drops significantly and remains low until the processor cools down.

In synthetic tests, this problem manifested itself most clearly. The Meizu U10 benchmark results were as follows:

  • Geekbench 4 - 1838 points (1964 points)
  • Antutu 6 - 36795 points ( Xiaomi Redmi 4 Pro scores 62421 points in this test)
  • 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited - 7319 points (13849 points).

Memory - 4.0

You can buy Meizu U10 in two modifications:

  • 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal memory
  • 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal memory.

We tested the 16 GB version, of which 14 GB is available to the user. It is possible to install a microSD memory card instead of one of the SIMs - a typical solution for modern smartphones.

Peculiarities

The device runs Flyme OS, a redesigned version of . From regular Google Android it is distinguished by a modified desktop on which all application icons are located, as well as the ability to more finely customize the device for yourself. Another feature operating system— mTouch 2.1 functionality, which allows you to control your smartphone using “swipes” across the screen and a single key. A short touch of the key means going back, while pressing it imitates the “Home” button. To open the menu running applications, you need to “swipe” from bottom to top at the bottom of the screen, and the same “swipe” at the top will show the search bar and icons of recently launched applications.

It is worth noting the fingerprint sensor built into the navigation key. It remembers up to five fingerprints. It is stated that recognition occurs in 0.2 seconds and from any angle. However, after tests we can say that although the reading speed corresponds to that declared by the manufacturer, the sensor does not always work correctly. Some touches were not recognized the first time.

The outgoing summer of 2016 brightened up the event with the presentation of the latest line of U10 and U20 smartphones.

The U10 smartphone is a smaller version of the U20. If you pay attention to the characteristics, they are very similar to the characteristics Meizu smartphone M3S.

Many even thought that new smartphone nothing new has been added.

The main feature of this smartphone- This is a glass case.

Manufacturers promise that thanks to this case (made of glass and metal), the smartphone will be reliable and durable.

According to the company, completely new design this line is an experiment.

Well, the main advantage of this smartphone is its price. Manufacturers ask for this unique smartphone:
12990 rubles – 16 GB;
14990 rubles – 32 GB.

Meizu U10 design

Indication of the basic parameters of the device and identification numbers, as well as contact information for the local service, which is located on the sticker.

All this is done on a standard sticker, it is located on the back of the box.

Having opened the box, we immediately see the device itself, it is located inside the box and is protected from damage by films.

The entire internal contents of the package are divided into two parts; the contents of each of them can be identified by the corresponding pictogram (it is located on the lid of the box).

The delivery set has not changed in composition and does not contain any additional accessories. Headphones are not included in the set.

Box Contents:

  • Power adapter
  • Paperclip (for removing the SIM card tray)
  • Instructions for use
  • USB – micro USB cable.

The appearance of the smartphone has not undergone major changes compared to the company's previous models.

The same outline remains, but note that the stripes that were on the back of the smartphone have disappeared, and a camera has appeared in the upper corner.

The combination of a glass body with 2.5D glass looks elegant; it is slightly curved at the edges.

This glass is very scratch resistant.

It is thanks to the oleophobic coating that the surface remains smooth, and when your fingers touch it, it glides easily.

The frame (located along the edge) and the base of the smartphone are made of aluminum.

The disadvantage of this model is that it is unstable in the hands and the surface is easily soiled (this factor is especially pronounced in black).

The following model colors are available for sale:

  • Black
  • White
  • Gold
  • Pink

The back panel will look mirrored and glossy, regardless of the chosen color of the smartphone.

The elements have not changed their location. On the left is a built-in connector for a SIM card and Micro SD storage, and on the right is a volume and on/off button.

The connector is located at the bottom Micro USB, speaker and microphone.

On this device touch buttons not found for navigation.

There is a universal mTouch 2.1 button (it is located under the screen), this button is “two in one”, since it is a mechanical and touch device in a smartphone.

Dimensions of the smartphone: 141.9 x 69.6 x 7.9 mm, weight (according to unofficial data) is about 140 grams.

For security, there is a built-in scanner that detects the fingerprint of the owner of the smartphone (the maximum number of memorizations is 5 fingerprints, the recognition angle is 360 degrees).

The scanner will help you block and restrict access to your phone and several applications.

Autonomous operation of the device

This smartphone model has eight cores, which is quite good for such a price. The device cores (Cortex – A53) are divided into two clusters:

  • Only four operate at 1.5 GHz.
  • With a frequency of 1 GHz the other four are limited.

Based on this, when performing heavy tasks, all eight cores of the device are involved: the power of the smartphone increases and drains faster.

If you read notifications and make phone calls, the power consumed by the smartphone is reduced and the battery charge lasts longer.

Due to this distribution of power, the battery (its capacity is 2760 mAh) lasts for a day without being connected to an outlet.

But this is when maximum savings battery charge. In order to extend the time you use your smartphone, we recommend:

  1. Use minimum brightness.
  2. Try not to use games that consume large amounts of energy.
  3. Turn off network modules that you do not use.
  4. Operate the device in energy saving mode.

We conducted the AnTuTu test and received the following results: from 30 to 41 thousand points. Games run without glitches.

Memory

The smartphone is available in two types:

  • 2 GB RAM and 16 GB ROM
  • 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM.

If we talk about operational issues, then better job in games it will show the option with 3 gigabytes. Well, there is much more free memory left for other tasks.

For those users who are not particularly keen on games, we recommend the version with two gigabytes, since it is not much different from the version with three gigabytes, this is quite enough.

As for the built-in storage. If the user wants to save money and only one SIM is enough for him, then the option with 16 gigabytes is suitable for him.

However, if the buyer needs and additional memory, then the option with 32 gigabytes will suit him.

It happens that after a purchase the user does not have enough free space on the device, in this case the memory can be easily increased (up to 128 gigabytes) using .

Camera

The smartphone camera is equipped with a 13-megapixel photo module, which consists of five lenses.

A two-tone flash is responsible for the quality of photographs taken in the dark and the natural color of photographs.

Older models used contrast autofocus, while newer models use phase autofocus, which works faster and allows you to take a picture while moving.

The main device allows you to support video shooting in Full HD (1080 p), such video can be viewed on a huge screen without stretching.

During the daytime, videos are recorded at a frame rate of 30 fps; if the lighting is not good enough, the frame rate drops to 20 fps.

also in Meizu phone there is slow motion and many other modes (modes for shooting portraits, macro photography, panoramic, etc.).

The front camera of the smartphone is equipped with 5 megapixels.

Many different filters for processing photos. The smartphone also has the ability to create (GIF) files.

Here are some pictures:

Display

Screen resolution – HD (1280 x720 pixels).

The screen diagonal is 5 inches, if you have used a larger screen before this smartphone, then at first it will be unusual, the pixel density is 266 PPI.

The picture is bright and lively. The screen matrix is , thanks to it the colors remain saturated and colorful, both on a sunny day and in the dark.

It’s pleasant to look at the screen, your eyes don’t get tired, you can also adjust the color temperature and brightness of the screen (maximum screen brightness is 397 cd/m²).

The screen is covered with oleophobe.

You can easily get rid of grease and fingerprints on the screen by simply wiping the screen with a napkin or other soft cloth.

In the cold, smartphones often fail, which cannot be said about the Meizu U10 32 GB, since its sensor is sensitive and responds well.

Features of Meizu U10

It is possible to install two NANO-SIM. Both work on 2G, 3G and 4G networks. The smartphone is equipped with:

  • Bluetooth 4.0 BLE (low power consumption).
  • Wireless Wi-Fi, it operates in the range of 2.4 or 5 Gigahertz.

The GPS system is responsible for the operation of satellite navigation.

The smartphone catches the network well, the data transfer speed depends on the place, time and telecom operator.

Sound

Everyone is used to the speakers Chinese phones from Meizu.

This device has a cheap speaker installed. The quality of the speaker matches the price.

You won’t be able to use this smartphone as speakers at a party; the volume of this model is only enough for an alarm clock and low-volume notifications.

For high-quality sound when listening to music, you need to use good headphones.

Most recently, we reviewed one of the new products from Meizu - Meizu U20. But in fact, users were offered the already familiar and popular Meizu M3 Note in a glass case.

Then the representative office explained to us that the release of the U line was a kind of experiment with a new design. However, it includes two devices, the older one has already been mentioned above, but we’ll get to know the younger one today. Meet Meizu U10!

There is continuity of characteristics - we have before us almost a copy of the famous “compact” Meizu M3S mini. We got acquainted with it even before the start of sales, and for those who read that review, the content of this text will seem familiar. The main interest is the case, and the main question is whether it is advisable to choose a glass case over a metal one.

As you can see, changes in the housing design resulted in minimal changes in characteristics. In fact, they turned out to be reduced to a slight decrease in the thickness of the case and a decrease in battery capacity. The latter can significantly affect the actual autonomy of the new product and be reflected when choosing between two models.

But the manufacturer has not changed its nature and offers several color options.

Packaging and equipment Meizu U10

Before us is an ordinary white cardboard box. The material is of high quality, the assembly does not cause the slightest complaints. The design can be called the standard of minimalism - apart from the name, there are no design elements.

The model name is shown on the front side.

The long ends bear the manufacturer's logo, the short ends are empty.

On the back there is a standard sticker indicating the main parameters of the device and identification numbers, as well as a sticker with contact information local service center.

Inside we immediately find the device itself, it is recessed inside the box and protected with films.

The entire internal space is divided into two boxes, the contents of each of them can be identified by the corresponding pictogram on the lid.

The delivery set is standard and does not contain any additional accessories.

It includes:

  • USB-microUSB cable;
  • Power adapter;
  • A paperclip for removing the card tray;
  • Technical documentation.

The packaging does an excellent job of protecting the smartphone from damage during transportation. This is ensured by both high-quality material and careful assembly of the box itself. The lid fits so tightly into place that it is not so easy to open.

Meizu recently introduced a new U series of smartphones that stands out stylish design. the site has already met a large representative of the line, and now it has reached the more compact Meizu U10.

Characteristics

  • screen: IPS, 5 inches, resolution 1280×720 pixels, protective glass 2.5D
  • platform: 8-core MediaTek MT6750
  • RAM: 2 GB, ROM: 16 GB (+microSD)
  • main camera: 13 MP, f/2.2, phase detection autofocus, dual LED flash
  • front camera: 5 MP, f/2.0
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 (LE), microUSB, GPS (A-GPS support), GLONASS
  • battery: 2760 mAh
  • fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, light sensor, proximity sensor
  • dimensions: 141.9×69.6×8.0 mm, weight: 139 g
  • OS: Android 6.0, Flyme 5.1

Appearance

The new product is practically no different from the Meizu U20: glass on the front and back, the arrangement of all elements is similar, except that the screen (and overall dimensions) is smaller. Both smartphones are similar in design not only to each other, but to the iPhone 4/4s, and the Meizu U10 is more similar to the latter due to its dimensions.

The site took the white version of the Chinese glass smartphone to see how different the models are in the two available colors.

After a lengthy comparison, we can say that the white modification looks less impressive, but is much more practical due to the fact that it is much more difficult to see grease marks and fingerprints on the case.

The white version of the smartphone also received a lighter metal frame - in color it is as close as possible to unpainted aluminum.

Overall, the device looks thoughtful and stylish, and the white color of the case impresses with its practicality - the black modification collects fingerprints so quickly that the more impressive appearance lasts for about 5 minutes at most, after which the smartphone must be actively rubbed with a cloth. The white modification looks good even after two days without any surface care.

Ease of use

Bluetooth and GPS did not cause any problems, and Wi-Fi works almost well - in some configurations of a particular router, Meizu U10 refused to connect to a network with WPA2-PSK protection, although with another network equipment and with exactly the same settings it worked without problems. We recommend checking in the first days after purchase how the device communicates with your home and work access points, so as not to be upset in the future if something goes wrong.

The sound in the headphones does not stand out among its competitors in any way: the maximum volume is sufficient, but there are no high-quality bass or clear highs here. You can listen to music, but don’t expect the smartphone to compete with a decent player. The same can be said about the external speaker - it is as normal as the competitors, both in terms of decent volume and mediocre quality.

Competitors

Which has almost the same density as a glass budget phone in terms of filling, lasts longer, and will also attract attention with its metal body and rounded shape. But the Meizu U10 camera showed itself a little better, and the smartphone is much more attractive in appearance. The main advantage of Meizu m3s is its lower cost - only 3199 UAH versus 3599 UAH.

Meizu U10 loses only in appearance and camera; all other technical aspects are slightly better in Xiaomi: performance is not higher, but games are better optimized for Snapdragon, battery life is higher. Practical users are better off taking the Redmi 3s, especially since its cost is UAH 3,199, but if style matters, then the Meizu U10 will be the right choice.

conclusions

Meizu U10 is an unremarkable inexpensive Chinese smartphone when we talk about its filling. It performs well compared to its competitors, but it can only be called an outstanding representative of its class based on one criterion: design.

The appearance of the device attracts attention; it is not flashy or bright, but stylish. This gadget looks good both with an evening dress and with a casual outfit. At the same time, the dimensions of the device do not cause discomfort during use, despite the predominance of sharp corners and rough transitions at the junctions of materials.

A nice device is a fashion device with all the consequences: it is impractical, there are no breakthrough technologies or advanced components here, and there is no room for various additional utilities. But it is really beautiful and comfortable. If these characteristics are important to you, the Meizu U10 is definitely worth considering for purchase.

3 reasons to buy Meizu U10:

  • pleasant appearance
  • convenient sizes for everyday use
  • high speed of most applications and shell

2 reasons not to buy Meizu U10:

  • mediocre performance of radio modules
  • glass is an impractical material that scratches quickly
