When the computer starts to slow down and produce one error after another, and manual cleaning does not bring results, the user is left with one radical but effective solution - a complete reinstallation of Windows. And it's not as difficult as many people think. Our instructions will help you.

1. Save important data

In the process you will format local disk, which contains the current version of Windows. Simply put, before installing there new system, you will have to erase all old data from it. The contents of the remaining disks should remain unchanged. But it’s better to play it safe and first copy absolutely all data from your computer that you are afraid of losing to the cloud or to physical media.

If you have installed on your computer paid programs, do not forget to read in their documentation the rules for working with licenses when reinstalling Windows, otherwise you may lose them.

2. Create a boot disk or flash drive

If you want to install/reinstall a licensed version of Windows, make sure you have the appropriate activation key. Even if you are already using an activated system and just want to install the same version again, the old activation key may come in handy again.

  • If you already have a bootable USB flash drive or disk with the version of Windows that you are going to install, you can proceed to step 3. Otherwise, you need to download a Windows image from the Internet and burn it to any of the listed media according to the instructions below.
  • Decide on the version of Windows you will be installing and check that your computer meets its system requirements. This information can be found on the official Microsoft website or on the disk with your purchased Windows. Don't forget to also check that your computer supports the bit depth new version: 32 or 64 bits. To be on the safe side, you can install a version with the same bit depth as your current one. Windows versions.
  • To create bootable USB flash drive with anyone Windows image found on the Internet, you can use Rufus program(with UEFI support) and go to step 3.

And below I will tell you how to create boot disk or a flash drive with an official system image using Windows 10 as an example.

3. Boot the system from a disk or flash drive

Now that you have physical media with the desired Windows image, you need to go to a special software environment BIOS and select a disk or flash drive here as the boot source.

Perhaps instead of the classic BIOS you will see a more modern one GUI. Moreover, even in various older versions BIOS settings may vary. But in any case, the procedure will be approximately the same: go to the boot menu, select the desired media as the source and save the changes.

After this, the computer should boot from the selected disk or flash drive.

Unlike Windows XP (Windows HP), reinstallation or Windows update 7 (Windows 7) runs on top of the installed operating system without deleting the system partition and formatting the disk. During the reinstallation, user files and settings are preserved, as well as installed programs and the parameters that were assigned to them.

To reinstall Windows 7 (Windows 7) we will need:
1) installation disk
2) key
3) enough free space under the system partition (no less than it occupies Users folder at its root)

Let's move on to the reinstallation process itself. First you need to sign in to Windows.
To start reinstalling Windows 7, you can use the installation disk or open the item in the control panel "Backup and Restore". At the bottom of the window that opens there is a link “Restore system settings or computer”, then - “Advanced recovery methods”. A window will open with two recovery methods to choose from:

1) restoring the system from a previously created image using the archiving function

Understandable Windows interface 7 allows even a beginner to figure it out. It is recommended to create a system image the first time you use the OS.
Backup and Restore -> "Archive" button

2) reinstall the system from the installation disk
Immediately before installation you need to do backup copy files.
Go to: Control Panel -> Recovery -> Reinstall Windows (requires installation Windows disk) and follow the instructions of the wizard.

But it’s better to use another method - install the installation disk and run setup.exe from it, and then in the window that opens, click the Install button.

Here Windows 7 will prompt you to download Latest updates, it would be better to install an updated system. An Internet connection is required.

Updates are downloading:

If you want to save all user settings and files, as well as installed programs, then you should use the item "Update"- this is an installation on top existing system. Please note that all system parameters (for example, service configuration) are reset - returned to standard, as when new installation Windows.
The upgrade uses Data Transfer Tool. It saves:
- user files and folders
- audio files, images and video files
- user accounts and settings
- program parameters
- Internet settings and files in the Favorites folder
- options Email
- contacts and messages

All files are saved to the same partition where the operating system is installed. During the reinstallation, a series of folders are created, in one of which Easy Transfer places these files.
Then all this data is restored to the installed system, and the temporary folders are deleted. But before you see the desktop, you will need to go through standard process setting up user settings, called OOBE (Out of Box Experience) - enter the product key, set language and regional settings, etc. Upon completion of the update, you will have a completely restored system that has saved your files, user preferences and settings of installed programs.

Full installation (additional options)- this is a clean installation with formatting the system partition, or installation on another partition hard drive.

And many forced owners of a new product want to return their beloved, stable Windows 7, but, unfortunately, they do not know how to do this.

Features of reinstalling Windows

This article is devoted to reinstalling Windows 7 on computers and laptops, for everyone who does not know how to do this, or is afraid to reinstall Windows 7 on their own for the first time.

In the article you will find:

  • Detailed description of the installation itself - step-by-step instruction;
  • Images of the installation progress and subsequent settings;
  • Tips and tricks during installation.

Preparing to reinstall Windows

Let's get started:

First of all, you need to take care of the safety of important data: copy all photos, videos and documents to reliable storage, this can be removable media or the cloud. And if your OS does not boot, you can try booting from a Live CD to copy the data. Or connect an external HDD and remove the necessary files from your disk.

Reinstalling Windows, in this case we will talk about “Seven”, is very simple.

You will need a Windows 7 image. You can download it online or purchase the boxed version. For those who don’t know, this is the version of the OS on a disk or flash drive that you can buy in a store.

If with boxed versions everything is clear: you pay money - you get a ready-made image, then in the case of purchasing online, this downloaded image must first be prepared, that is, written to a USB flash drive or disk.
The most common program for burning images is UltraISO. The utility is free and easy to use, and the network is full of information on how to prepare bootable media for installation on computers.

Set boot priority in BIOS

Conventionally, we have prepared the image, now you need to install it on your computer.

In more modern motherboards, the interface is usually graphical, but it is not difficult to understand. Just look for partitions (boot priority).

Loading a USB flash drive or disk with an image via the Boot menu

This manipulation is needed only once, and after installing Windows, everything will need to be returned to its place. Instead, you can simply reboot, at the moment when information about installed memory Press the key to enter the Boot menu. Usually these are keys "F11", "F12" or "Esc", but not always. Again, there is a hint on the initial loading screen. In the window "Boot menu" select your storage medium (disc or flash drive) and click "Enter".

Start installing Windows 7

It is advisable to read more detailed information about the installation progress and hardware requirements - click on the link with a description of more detailed information at the bottom of the window. The system recovery button is needed for specific cases when it is necessary to restore damaged files. We don’t need to go there now, so we just click "Install".

Which OS bit size to choose: 64 or 86

Tip: if you have on your computer random access memory installed up to 3 GB, then you should choose the 32-bit (x86) version, if from 3 and above then 64. This choice determines how stable and fast Windows will work. With 1 GB of RAM - Maximum 64-bit, the operating system will of course be installed, but working on it will be simply painful. It will slow down and hang terribly.

  1. In the next window you should read the license agreement, it’s not easy to scroll through and agree, but read, you never know what kind of data you will entrust to Microsoft under this license agreement? What if you don’t like it and in this case it would be better for you to refuse to use this product. Check the box "I accept the terms license agreement» and click "Further".
  2. We are interested in the complete installation, so we select the second tile (Full installation of new version).
  3. Formatting a hard drive when reinstalling Windows 7

When reinstalling Windows 7, you need to format the “Local Disk” on which you installed Windows. Otherwise, the OS will be installed on top of the old system, and the files of the old OS will be placed in the Window old folder and will only take up space on the hard drive.

For example: you have a 100 GB disk, and you need to create a 50 GB installation partition. We write in the window the required size of the future system disk and press "Apply". For the remaining space, create a second or more Local Disks. When creating a new partition, the system will warn you about the creation of additional reserved partitions.

Clean installation of Windows on your computer

Completing the installation - activating and setting parameters

Beware of counterfeits and use pirated assemblies. Believe me, this will not bring anything good.

If you still think that installing an operating system is an activity for computer technicians, then you are seriously mistaken.

Using this guide, you can install Windows 7, even if you are a novice PC user. So, let's get ready first.

  1. Open "My computer" and look at which section you have in this moment system installed.
Remember its size and name so that you can find the volume you need during installation.
  2. Collect in advance on a flash drive or other disk all the necessary drivers for your computer or laptop. If there is no disk with drivers, they can be downloaded from the official website of the equipment manufacturer. If you don’t do this, you risk being left without the Internet after installing the new system.
  3. Which windows bit depth 7 choose - ? Click « Control Panel -> System and Security -> System»

If your computer or laptop has more than 3 gigabytes of RAM installed, it is definitely worth installing the 64-bit version. In general, we recommend installing x86 only on weak or very outdated hardware in the 21st century, after all :). Please note that the drivers for the same device are different; in fact, these are two different systems!
  4. Download the installation ISO image Windows 7:

    What are these images?

These are original MSDN images downloaded from the official Microsoft website. The only change is that the ability to select the system edition during installation is unlocked. No files are affected and the system is not activated.
Other versions of Windows 7 images can be downloaded.

  5. Prepare a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 7. this manual We will install the system from a flash drive, because it is faster and easier. Similar instructions on how to create it can be found.
  6. Since during installation we will format the disk with installed system, then that's it important files, which are stored on it, must first be copied to removable media or to another partition of the hard drive. Remember that files located on the desktop are also stored on the system disk. If you need them, be sure to move them to another place. When formatting, all previously installed programs will be deleted, but this does not mean that they also need to be copied to flash drives and disks. It's easier to reinstall programs, so only worry about – photographs, documents, music, etc.

Create a bootable USB flash drive using . Next, insert it into the USB port and change it in the BIOS motherboard boot priority so that this flash drive is loaded first. If you have any difficulties at this step, here detailed instructions. If you did everything correctly by changing the boot priority, then after exiting the BIOS and restarting the computer, the message “Press any key” will appear on the screen. Fulfill this requirement - press any key to start booting from the installation media.

You only need to press the key ONCE and only at this stage of installation.

After pressing any key, a message will appear indicating that Windows is downloading files.

System installation

So, let's proceed directly to installing Windows 7. Wait until their extraction is completed, after which the installer start window will appear on the screen. Congratulations, the hardest part is over!

  1. Select your language, time format and layout. Click "Further".
  2. Click on the big button "Install" to launch the installation wizard.

  3. Attention!

Note: choose the version of Windows for which you have an activation key (you will enter it at the final stage of installation). If there is no key, read the instructions after installation.

  4. Read the license terms and accept them.
  5. Select the full installation (updating is not suitable for us).
  6. After launch complete installation The partition selection screen appears. The installer window will have several sections:
First usually reserved by the system (recovery files are stored in it). It weighs 100 MB and does not need to be touched. Second is a system file - that is, Windows files are stored on it. A new system is being installed on it. Third section – file. User data is stored here and remains intact even after transfer. Windows installations.
There may be other options: for example, there is no system-reserved partition or there is no volume with user files. In any case, you need the partition on which there was already previous system– It’s not for nothing that when preparing for installation, we advised you to look and remember its size.
If for some reason you still have one partition, the volume of which exceeds 250 GB, then it is better to immediately divide the disk into two volumes: one for Windows and programs (approximately 50-100 GB), the second for personal files. To do this, using the “Disk Setup” tool, delete the existing partition and first create the first volume (“Create” - specify the volume - “Apply”), and then the second.

The created volumes must be named “Partition 1”, “Section 2”. There should be no unallocated space left - the system simply will not see it.

So, you have at least two partitions, one of which is dedicated to operating system files. If it has not just been created, but has already been created before, then it needs to be formatted by deleting all data.
Click on the link "Disk Setup", highlight a section and press "Format". When formatting, all files from the system partition will be deleted (that is, the values in the columns " Full size” and “Free” will become the same). This is exactly what we wanted. To start a clean installation, click "Further", checking again that the partition you allocated for the system is highlighted.

  7. We wait. After selecting a partition and starting the installation, a window will appear on the screen in which you can see the unpacking process Windows files 7 and recording them to the hard drive. While you can rest, you won’t have to do anything for 15-25 minutes.
During this installation time, the computer will reboot several times. After the installation is complete, you need to specify some system operating parameters.
  8. Enter computer name Computer name The computer name is what your computer will be called on the local network. and username. It is advisable to use Latin characters instead of Russian, this will help avoid problems with some programs in the future.
  9. You can set an administrator password if you wish, but this is not necessary. If you set a password, you will need to enter it every time you start your computer or laptop. We will leave the field empty for now, “password” account maybe later.
  10. Enter your activation key if you have one. If there is no key, uncheck "Automatically activate" and skip the step by pressing "Further".
  11. Specify Windows settings– it’s better to choose the recommended parameters, when you get to know the new system better, configure it in your own way.
After selecting all the necessary parameters, a working screen will appear on the screen. Windows table 7. You can begin your acquaintance with the system, but first reboot the computer and go into the BIOS again - here you need to change the boot priority back, putting the hard drive in first place.
  12. Turn on automatic update system and wait for the process to complete. Security updates will install most drivers. If there is no Internet, you can use a program to install drivers .

The instructions turned out to be quite impressive in volume, but now you know the main nuances when installing Windows 7 and can easily do it yourself. Carefully follow the above recommendations and the installation will definitely be successful.

In the process, you will format the local drive that contains the current version of Windows. Simply put, before installing a new system there, you will have to erase all old data from it. The contents of the remaining disks should remain unchanged. But it’s better to play it safe and first copy absolutely all data from your computer that you are afraid of losing to the cloud or to physical media.

If paid programs are installed on your computer, be sure to read their documentation for the rules for working with licenses when reinstalling Windows, otherwise you may lose them.

To be on the safe side, you can install a version with the same bit depth as your current version of Windows.
  • To create a bootable USB flash drive with any Windows image found on the Internet, you can use the program (with UEFI support) and proceed to step 3.

And below I will tell you how to create a boot disk or flash drive with an official system image using Windows 10 as an example.

3. Boot the system from a disk or flash drive

Now that you have physical media with the desired Windows image, you need to go to the special BIOS software environment and select a disk or flash drive here as the boot source.

After this, the computer should boot from the selected disk or flash drive.

4. Run the installation wizard

If you did everything correctly, the Windows Setup Wizard will appear on the screen. Further actions do not exceed the complexity of the installation of an ordinary one office program. All you have to do is follow the system prompts and wait for the files to be unpacked. Unless you have to select a local disk to install the operating system and format it.

Also, be prepared to enter your activation key during the process. But if you reinstall an already activated one on your Windows computer 10, then the step with the key can be skipped.

Once the installation is complete, your computer should boot into normal operating mode.

5. Install drivers

softotor.net

Modern versions of Windows load drivers themselves. But if, after reinstalling the system, you notice that the video card, speakers, or anything else is not working correctly, you can use the driver autoload utility. For example, the free Driver Booster is suitable.

Having completed all of the above, you can get to work. The computer must be ready.
