Overview of the main functions of Ontrack Easyrecovery Professional. Which version of the program should I choose for HDD recovery?

Ontrack Easyrecovery Professional– recovery toolkit available for Windows and Mac OS. With this program you can easily recover deleted files. This can be done quickly and efficiently, without damaging the hard drive or phone memory. And, importantly, independently.

Easyrecovery specializes in data recovery from hard drives (SSD, HDD), flash drives, SD cards and removable devices (CD/DVD/Blueray drives).

We also note that Ontrack Easyrecovery exactly repeats the interface and functionality of the Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery program (it is quite possible that the development is carried out by one company).

EasyRecovery editions

The following versions are available on the official Ontrack website software:

  • Ontrack EasyRecovery Free
  • Ontrack EasyRecovery Home
  • Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional
  • Ontrack EasyRecovery Technician

All versions of EasyRecovery (except Free) are paid. To get acquainted, each of them can be downloaded absolutely free and you can test the trial version for 30 days.

The trial mode is not 100% functional, but it will be enough to scan a disk with deleted files, make a preview, making sure that the file is found, and then make a decision: buy a fully functional Easyrecovery version or try other recovery programs.

File limit in free version Ontrack EasyRecovery is 1 GB.

Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional is the most optimal version of the product for home use, we would recommend it to get acquainted with the EasyRecovery product line.

The cost of an annual subscription to Ontrack Easyrecovery Pro is 139.00 USD.

Key features of Ontrack Easyrecovery Pro

The set of tools offered by Easyrecovery Pro for data recovery is not free, but at the same time the program is considered one of the best in its category. We list the main functions below.

Secure data recovery

When searching for deleted files, EasyRecovery does not write service information to the disk from which the recovery is performed. When saving results, you can specify any location. A wide list of recipients is available: HDD/SSD partitions, network drive or removable drives (USB flash drive and SD card).

It is also possible to create an image of a disk partition or a complete copy of it. Having made a copy of the problematic HDD, you can work with it as a physical device without fear that it will fail.

Two types of searching for deleted information

The Quick Recovery option allows you to reduce search time and find deleted files in the shortest possible time.

If a regular scan did not bring results or all files were not found, try rescanning, but in Deep Scan mode. Data is searched using signatures, which increases the chances of finding partially deleted and damaged files.

In Deep Scan mode, you can scan all partitions of your hard drive / other storage media and then build a file tree.

Recovering missing/deleted partitions

If an entire partition was deleted, you will be able to find the files on it, even if the file system type is unknown. Easyrecovery Pro recognizes a wide range of files including HFS, HFS+ (Mac OS), (ex)FAT and NTFS (Windows).

Universal recovery

The program can be used to scan any removable and non-removable devices, including:

  • local or external HDD and SSD,
  • USB flash drives and SD cards,
  • Raid arrays,
  • mobile phones (Android / iOS).

RAID arrays recovery

One of the most difficult and catastrophic scenarios is damage to RAID arrays or other problems. As a result of a failure, all disks and, accordingly, the data on them are destroyed. With Ontrack EasyRecovery capabilities, you can restore a RAID or create virtual copy RAID, and then restore RAID data as usual.

User-friendly interface = visibility of recovery

The program has a built-in recovery wizard (Wizard), which will help inexperienced users avoid mistakes.

Recovery results are sorted by type and can also be displayed as a file tree. All this is necessary to restore order when saving files.

Previews are available for images - this makes it more convenient to get acquainted with the results and mark the files you need.

Let's start recovering information on a flash drive / SSD / HDD

Indeed, Ontrack Easyrecovery Professional, as well as other versions of the program, provides a very convenient step-by-step recovery wizard, so it will be easy for me to tell you how to use easyrecovery and how to recover data using this particular program. As the story progresses, we will explain certain nuances associated with the program settings.

As a test program, I use ontrack easyrecovery professional 11.5.0.1, at the time of writing this article - one of the most current versions of the product.

Selecting a recovery source in ontrack easy recovery (Steps 1 and 2)

I will take a flash drive as a storage medium, although it could be:

  • hard drive (see also on the topic of how to recover data from a hard drive (HDD))
  • memory card or flash drive
  • optical disk
  • multimedia/mobile device, Android or iOS phone
  • RAID system

So, I select Memory Device. Next in Select section Volume to Scan can and should indicate an existing file volume where the files you are looking for are actually missing. In principle, you don’t have to bother and select the entire area to scan. However, this will affect the speed of searching for deleted files. On the other hand, searching for information on a flash drive or fast SSD drive It shouldn’t take that long with Easyrecovery.

Selecting a file recovery script (Steps 3 and 4)

In the Choose Recovery Scenario section, you can clarify after what actions the information was lost, so that the easyrecovery professional program selects a scenario for further behavior, which certainly affects the quality and chances of recovering erased, damaged information.

  • Deleted File Recovery Scan - standard file recovery
  • Formatted Media Recovery - recovery of a formatted flash drive or SD card
  • Search Lost Volumes - search and recovery deleted partitions
  • Disk Diagnostics - disk diagnostics
  • Disk Tools - tools for working with disk

Specifically, on the flash drive that I have, files have disappeared. Therefore, without hesitation, I select the Deleted File Recovery Scan option, which in easyrecovery is responsible for searching for deleted information on a flash drive.

Selecting a recovery source in the ontrack easyrecovery application

At the bottom of the program there are additional options, from which you can:

  • specify file system format
  • enable search by signatures (file signatures) - helps if you have a raw disk
  • quick search on a partition formatted for NTFS (works quickly, but misses some files when searching)

If you click Continue to continue, you will see a summary of the information.

Checking easyrecovery professional settings before the recovery process

So, let's check:

  • Media Type - flash drive
  • recovery partition (Volume) - in fact, the entire accessible area of the flash drive
  • Recovery Scenario - Deleted File Recovery
  • file system type - FAT

The process of searching for deleted information on a flash drive

After continuing the wizard, Ontrack Easyrecovery PRO will begin searching for deleted files. Let's be patient and wait...

The information window displays:

  • total time
  • number of files and folders found
  • number of partitions found

If you activate the Show log messages option, then you will have access to the scanning log of the easy recovery application, displaying literally every event during scanning and, in particular, recording possible mistakes reading. Not to say that it’s a useful thing, but other resuscitators usually don’t have this.

It is interesting to note that Easyrecovery does not allow you to stop the process; you can only pause the scanner. Well, very kind of the program.

Completing recovery in Easyrecovery Professional 11. Saving file search results (Step 5)

At the end of the process, the The deleted files scan has finished window will appear. Click OK and go to the Save your Files stage. A tree is available in the left pane for navigating through found files, folders and disk partitions. Don't expect the program to recover file and directory names - unfortunately, this is often impossible. However, advance information will save you.

Ontrack easyrecovery professional: list of files to recover

In order not to bother, you can save all the detected data en masse in a directory for further analysis of the rubble. To do this, in the context menu (right mouse button on the file tree), select the Save as... option and specify the drive to save the recovered data.

That's all. Watch the video instructions on YouTube on how to use ontrack easyrecovery professional 11, read the user manual (available on the Ontrack website and in the program folder), subscribe to my channel. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments on YouTube, I will clarify any unclear details.

Purpose of the program: recover files from various media (flash, hard disks internal and external, CD/DVD, and even RAID) after deletion, formatting, system installation, partition removal, media inaccessibility (asks to format). Supports the following file systems: FAT, exFAT, NTFS, HFS+, ISO9660 (CD/DVD), EXT2/3. The media must be physically intact, i.e. correctly detected in the BIOS and not have damaged sectors.

How to use Easyrecovery

Let's say you have a Transcend 2GB flash drive; when you try to access it, a message appears about the need to format it.
Of course, you don’t need to format anything to gain access to the data. Let's launch the program. On the first screen, click Continue. Next, we are asked to choose what type of media we need to restore from.

You can immediately select where you want to recover data from. The next step will still display a list of devices. If you select Memory Device, a list of removable media will be displayed, if Optical Media - a list optical disks, if Multimedia/Mobile – a list of devices operating via the MTP protocol (media transfer protocol), if RAID System – you will be prompted to assemble a virtual array (this is only available in the registered version), if you select Hard Drive – a list of all supported devices in system and you will have to look for your flash drive among the entire list. Select Memory Device and click Continue.

Select our volume (H:), click Continue.

Next, the program asks what we want to do with our flash drive:

Explore Volume– simply opens the content, as in Explorer, nothing is scanned. Can be used if you need to open a disk with an unsupported Windows file system. In our case, this option is not suitable - the flash drive does not open at all because it has logical damage.

Deleted File Recovery– search and recovery of accidentally deleted files, folders, files deleted from the recycle bin. Depending on the settings, it can scan the entire volume or only unallocated space.

Formatted Media Recovery– recovery after accidental formatting of the device or if the message “Disk is not formatted” is displayed when accessing. Completely scans the media for search file systems and different file types, works longer than the previous option. This is what we will use.

Disk Diagnostics– carrier diagnostics.

Provides basic capabilities media checks: scanning for bad blocks, reading SMART. For such operations there are specially created for this purpose free funds, for example Victoria, HDDScan, which can really diagnose the drive more objectively.

Disk Tools– a set of additional tools for working with disks. Let's look at them.

Create Image– creating a media image to a file.

Restore Image– write the image file sector by sector to the media.

Copy Disk– copy one disk to another sector-by-sector.

It is difficult to say why these functions are needed in this program, given that sector-by-sector copies need to be made from faulty media, and for this, other tools are used with completely different capabilities aimed at minimizing the impact on the faulty drive.

View Disk– the simplest disk editor.

Allows you to view and copy the contents of individual disk sectors. This is all additional features. We still need to restore our flash drive. Therefore, select Formatted Media Recovery and click Continue. The search process for the file system and individual files starts.

At large volume Scanning the drive may take several hours. Our flash drive is only 2GB, it takes a couple of minutes. At the end of the process, the result will be displayed.

We received a result of average quality - the structure and names of the files were not preserved. Recovery was possible only by file type: images, documents, etc. Among the useful items in the context menu are Open (will save the file to a temporary folder and open it in the associated program) and Save as – save a separate selected file. To save all the recovered information, you need to click the icon with the image of a floppy disk and the caption Save. But the ability to save information appears only after purchasing a license key.

Ontrack EasyRecovery is a complete and well-known program for recovering deleted files on a flash drive and computer hard drive. Everyone knows that files that the user has destroyed regular means are not permanently deleted, but are only marked for deletion.

Such files can be easily recovered using professional software, but only if the correct approach to solving this problem is used. And only after several cycles of rewriting information to such a HDD partition can the information be lost forever. If you do everything according to the instructions, then, for example, restoring files deleted from the recycle bin will not be difficult at all.

Ontrack is an excellent set of tools for data recovery in case of accidental erasure Windows Recycle Bin, and in case of intentional deletion due to the user’s fault or as a result of virus activity or through an attack by other malicious software.

In addition, the program can bring back to life those files that were destroyed as a result of formatting the hard drive. The probability of success is very high, especially in cases where such a HDD section was not used in work or its use was limited.
Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional provides functionality that allows you to create a bootable CD and boot from it before starting operating system. This will significantly increase the efficiency of the program, since only Ontrack will have access to the file system.

It is recommended to copy all data that will be found in the program for recovering deleted files to a separate partition of the hard drive.

Unfortunately, in our time we are at risk of losing information that is important to us as a result of exposure to unwanted software (viruses), due to our own carelessness, as well as due to the negligence of third parties who also have access to the computer. Regular data backup can help in such a situation ( backup data on portable media) or constant monitoring of the activities of any process that has access to computer files.

But how to produce data recovery from hard drive or flash drive, what if trouble persists and the user loses important information?

To do this, just run the program EasyRecovery Professional and then select the appropriate algorithm for its operation.

You must first specify the type of media that needs to be scanned, and then select the program’s operation algorithm (depending on how the data was lost - due to formatting the disk or emptying the recycle bin).

The functionality of this utility allows you to fine-tune the settings of the utility, but as practice shows, these 2 modes are most often used by users.

Looking at the functionality of this excellent tool in more detail, we see that the program makes it possible to find files in more than 200 different formats on the media, including multimedia data (audio, video, images), text and working documents, as well as many other types of data.

This Windows program to recover deleted files is interesting not only from a recovery point of view, but also thanks to the functions that allow you to restore archives and files created in office programs Microsoft Office. The special FileRepair module is responsible for this.
It is worth noting that the Data Advisor subroutine included in the utility allows you to monitor the state of hard drives, file systems and proactively identify causes that may lead to undesirable consequences in the future.

EasyRecovery software will be a necessary tool for IT specialists, extremely useful for the management of any organization, as well as ordinary users, because data loss is critical not only for business, but is also often fraught with danger for ordinary computer users. Convenience of working with the utility is achieved thanks to a well-designed user interface, and successful results are achieved due to the time-tested functionality of the built-in utilities.

Ontrack EasyRecovery Professional will be useful in the following situations:

  • accidentally emptying the trash can or deleting it using the Shift+Del key combination;
  • exposure to an aggressive virus attack that led to data loss on the hard drive;
  • loss of files caused by power surges in the network;
  • loss of information due to incorrectly configured HDD partitions and damaged file systems;
  • need for data recovery after hard formatting disk.
This version allows you to recover data from a hard drive or flash drive without restrictions, without restrictions regarding the volume of the media itself and file sizes.
