Computer turn-on timer via scheduler. How can I set my computer to turn on automatically at a certain time in Windows Vista? Automatic computer shutdown settings

To reduce your computer's energy consumption, you just need to put it into sleep mode, the same method increases the loading speed operating system due to the lack of switching on and rebooting.

Another undeniable advantage of this method is the ability to set the time to exit sleep mode to start the necessary tasks.

Instructions

1. Click the “Start” menu button in the lower left corner of the monitor. Select “All programs”, then “Accessories” - “Services”. Click the “Task Scheduler” button to open this program.

2. Click “Create a task” in the “Actions” column on the right (not “Create a simple task”). We assign a name for the building. You can also write a task description. No other settings need to be changed.

3. Click on the “Triggers” tab, then “Create”. In the menu that appears, select the “Schedule” option. We mark the desired frequency of the task with a checkbox, for example, daily, weekly, monthly. We set the desired date and time when your Personal Computer will come out of the sleep state. We set the necessary settings for each option (daily, weekly, etc.). Click "Ok".

4. Click on the “Actions” tab, then “Create”. Click in the menu that appears next to “Action” and select the action after the personal computer wakes from sleep mode. Usually this is launching some program or sending an email. If you just need to wake up your PC, select the bottom option, Display Message, and then set some information to display after waking up. If you select “Run a program,” then mark the program to launch after the personal computer wakes from sleep mode. If you checked “Sending email”, then fill out the required lines. After all these operations, click “Ok”.

5. Click on the “Conditions” tab. Check the box next to “Wake up the computer to complete a task.” It is this option that will wake up your favorite computer on which it is installed. Windows Vista strictly at the time you specified. You don't have to change anything in the Options tab. Click "Ok". Now your personal computer will “wake up” at the time you specified and, if necessary, perform the required task.

Notes

If your beloved computer is left unattended, it is still better to check the power settings to make sure that the computer will go to sleep mode after a certain time.

If your personal computer is configured so that a screen asking you to log in appears after waking from sleep mode, this will not prevent you from sending email or starting a program. However, if you want to see the text, you will have to log in first.

Program for automatically turning off and turning on your computer

There are situations when you need to turn off your computer at a specific time, but you are unable to do this due to your absence. Or when you fell asleep watching a movie late at night while lying on the couch. In addition, I would like the computer to turn on itself on a certain day at the appointed time and launch the application necessary to perform an important task - for example, an audio player with loud music early in the morning :) - free program turns off and on the computer on a given day and specific time.

Save time at work. After all, every time you come to the office you turn on the computer, launch the editor and check email. Let everything be ready when you arrive, in case you are delayed! And when leaving work home, let the computer turn itself off - will handle it. There is so little time for life.

Program installation

Install the TimePC program and the computer will stop making noise from the fans at night by turning off at the appointed time. Set the date and time for the computer to automatically turn on, add programs that you launch every morning to the list of applications to launch when you turn on the computer - save yourself from unnecessary movements. The TimePC utility will turn on and off the computer for you, and will itself prepare the working environment on the desktop when you start the PC.

To install the TimePC program, download the utility distribution kit, run it and follow the installer's instructions. The installation process is very simple, you just need to click the mouse a few times and TimePC will start working on your computer.

Update

If you decide to update the program, first close TimePC, uninstall it and then install the new version.

The TimePC program interface is very simple, all settings and functions fit into one small window. The utility takes up very little space on your hard drive and does not interfere with the operation of the operating system or other programs. TimePC sits quietly in the system tray and is always ready to complete your task of turning off and turning on the computer at the specified date and required time. TimePC supports Russian and English languages, runs under Windows XP/Vista/7.

Principle of operation

TimePC uses this function ACPI(advanced configuration and power management interface) like hibernation- in other words, switching the computer to an energy-saving operating mode. To put it in "computer" language, TimePC does not turns off, but puts the computer into hibernation mode and does not includes, but takes him out of this mode. Majority modern computers They competently know how to put a PC into this mode. If the PC does not support hibernation mode, the program will not wake the computer from “deep sleep”. If in the BIOS settings motherboard There are ACPI settings, but when the TimePC program shuts down the computer (more correctly, it goes into hibernation), the fan continues to make noise, then you need to select the value S3/STR in the ACPI Sleep Time option (there is also S1/POS).

Scheduler

In order to turn off and turn on the computer according to a schedule, the program implements a Scheduler. For each day of the week, you can set a time for your computer to automatically enter and exit hibernation mode. TimePC will automatically start the PC, provided that the program itself turns it off.

If you have any questions about the operation of the TimePC program, write to the author.

If, when exiting hibernation mode, the computer displays a user selection window with a password, and you want to disable this request, you must do the following: click Start => Control Panel => Power Options. In the window that opens, click "Request password on wakeup" and select "Change unavailable in this moment settings". After this, the option "Do not ask for a password" will become available for selection.

If the program “does not turn on the computer on time,” try the following: Control Panel => Power Options => Set up power plan => Change advanced power settings => Sleep => Allow wake timers => On.

TimePC 1.7 from 02/09/2015

An option has been added to the program to restart the computer after exiting hibernation. With this option enabled, the PC will restart 1 minute after waking up.

In this article we will help you understand all the issues related to sockets with a timer, or, as they are often called today in common parlance, smart sockets. We will answer the following questions: what is it, what are they, features, advantages and disadvantages, how to set up and other points.

We will also show several popular models and talk about them functionality. Some especially advanced ones even have a control function via a smartphone.

What is a timer socket?

Automation of turning on and off the supply of electricity to devices will be very useful for many. You can not only save on electricity, but also save yourself from routine manual power management.

For example, you can set the watering of your garden to turn on and off at certain times, the same applies to lighting. In the same way, heating and the operation of various household appliances. We will look at other areas of application below.

The device looks like a standard socket, but with a built-in timer of different types. This can be a mechanical lever or electronic control with buttons and a digital display.

Also sold are individual timers (not sockets) that connect to the wiring of an entire or group of electrical appliances, allowing you to operate pumps, fans and other electrical appliances at a specific time.

What types of sockets are there with a timer?

Now we will take a closer look at what exactly smart sockets are. There are two main types with different types controls: mechanical and electronic.

Mechanical
- the simplest sockets with a timer, the time in which is set using a special drum. Such models can work in automatic mode a maximum of 24 hours, which is why they are also called daily allowances. Mechanics, as you understand, do not provide those opportunities available models with electronic control. Therefore, here the on and off intervals are clearly cyclical: let’s say 10 minutes after 10 minutes, and there can be a certain number of such cycles, depending on the functionality of the model. There is no way to set parameters.

Electronic
this type control gives much more opportunities to configure automation. The most common models allow you to program actions ahead for a whole week. There are also more advanced models with a longer programmer life of a whole month or even more. Depending on the functionality, you can set the timer for any time on and off. Let’s say 1 hour in the morning, half an hour in the afternoon and 2 hours in the evening, so with different variations throughout the week. At the same time, some models of smart relays that work with a group of electrical appliances can control each element in the system separately, that is, turn on watering the lawn at a certain time, adjust lighting, activate pumps and much more.

Where can it be used?

Electrical Appliance Control

This includes almost any electrical equipment: home appliances, heating, water pumps for irrigation, aquarium equipment, heating and lighting of animal enclosures. Schedule on-off intervals, automate the process, and in some cases even realize significant energy savings.

Lighting control

Automatically turning on the lighting in the yard or even at home at night will save you from independent actions and save a lot of time. Often automatic switching on lights in the house are used for security purposes, to discourage unwanted guests from the property when the owners are absent. In this case, you need to buy a socket with a timer with a function for generating random switching on and off.

Agricultural management

If you are the owner of an agricultural farm, then automation will be a must. By adjusting the watering and ventilation of greenhouses, lighting of enclosures and feeding of animals in this way, you can achieve significant results in the business process and free up a lot of time, while saving energy, which is expensive in such volumes. By the way, the use of smart sockets allows you to save 30-40% of all monthly electricity costs in the future.

Functional Features

How to choose exactly the model that is useful specifically for you? To do this, let’s look at what criteria and functions are used to select a socket with a timer. They differ in the type of control that we mentioned, the complexity of the programmer, the load and other parameters.

Mechanical or electronic— in this case, the choice is individual; if you only need to automate watering the garden for several hours, then an inexpensive socket with a mechanical timer will do. And in the case when it is necessary to create complex automation over a long period of time (one week or more) using several devices, you will need an electronic programmer.

Programming time— depending on the type of outlet, the maximum time is selected for which you can program the switching on and off of the necessary devices. Usually the minimum is 24 hours, and the maximum is a week or even a month. The latter is quite rare and refers to very expensive devices that are used in smart home systems.

Timer accuracy- relate more to mechanical options, since inexpensive models may not show the most accurate reading. Although for simple actions, such as watering and turning on the filtration pump, special accuracy is not required, only correct cyclicity. We advise you to choose trusted manufacturers with a good reputation. Sockets with a German-made timer work well, although some Russian and Chinese manufacturers They also produce very good products: Theben and Brunnenstahl (Germany), Feron and Camelion (Russia).

- usually the standard load parameter for most models is 16A, you can also choose 10A, 7A, or, if powerful throughput is required, there are 40A devices. Depending on the load you need, the type of device is selected. That is, if the device consumes 5 kW of electricity, which corresponds to 25A, then naturally, 16A will clearly not be enough.

Number of programming lines- in simple inexpensive sockets with a timer, there is usually one line on which only one device can be connected. More expensive models support 2 or more lines for connecting and programming the operation of several electrical devices.

Protection from moisture and dust- some models have a level of protection against moisture and dust so that they can be used on outdoors- here the choice is yours. If you plan to frequently use the device outside the home, then it is advisable to choose a socket with a protection certificate of at least IP40.

Price— depending on the complexity of the functionality, type of outlet and country of manufacturer, the price changes. It’s not always that the more expensive is better, but for the most part, more expensive models have good functionality, high-quality assembly and, accordingly, are reliable and durable.

Pros and cons of outlets with a timer

Advantages:

  • The ability to automate the switching on and off of electrical appliances: simplifies work and saves time;
  • Saves energy to some extent if used this system for lighting, heating or farm automation;
  • Creating a convenient on-off time schedule (electronic control only).

Flaws:

  • Mechanically controlled sockets have mainly disadvantages. These are inaccuracy of the timer, noise in the form of ticking, short programmer time (24 hours), frequent failure of the timer (fragility).
  • Electronic control also has some disadvantages, but this depends on the model. Often the timer works independently of the total current (on the battery) and even if there is an unexpected power outage it continues to work.

How to set up an outlet with a timer?

Mechanical timer

Mechanical control implies the presence of a drum, which has markings that allow you to set time intervals with a certain cyclicity. As an example, let's take a pool filtration pump, which can run every two hours for 15 minutes or at other specified intervals.

Also, models with mechanical control allow you to save electricity at a time when the maximum tariff is provided for it. For example, from 8 to 11 am and, accordingly, at the same time in the evening. This cycle is configured in daily sockets.

There is absolutely nothing complicated in setting up the mechanics, everything is so simple that any even more or less literate person who can calculate the number of hours in a day can figure it out.

Electronic timer

A more complex device that requires preliminary drawing up of a weekly schedule, and then carefully setting all parameters using electronic control. An LED or LCD screen will greatly simplify setup and will indicate the progress of the process.

Typically, the minimum control set includes the following functional buttons: left, right, up, down, activation, delete from memory, countdown and reset settings. They help create the necessary time intervals throughout the week or certain days.

There are more sequential actions with a certain course, which you need to think through in advance and spend enough time on entering them. In general, of course, it’s more difficult than with mechanics, but if you can handle it with a smartphone, then you won’t have any problems with the setup either.

TOP 7 popular models of sockets with a timer

Theben Timer 26

The simplest but most reliable model from the German manufacturer Theben. It is characterized by high reliability and durability. When completing the on-off cycle, it notifies you with a characteristic click. Unlike Chinese analogues, it works completely silently when the timer is set. There is no light indication, but given its other advantages, this is not critical. Maximum load - 16A.

Theben Timer 26 IP44

The model is identical to the previous version, but with one important property - protection from moisture and dust with IP44 certificate. Which is important when you use such an outlet outdoors. Otherwise, the characteristics are identical: mechanical control, and a maximum current of 16A.

As already mentioned, the quality of the products from this manufacturer is very high quality, so the price is also appropriate. You can buy Timer 26 IP44 for approximately 3000 rub. Materials and assembly fully correspond to the cost.

Among the features we highlight the noiselessness and sound signal after completing a given cycle.

E.Next e.control.t11

Also extremely simple model sockets with a mechanical timer of domestic production, but of European quality. The E.Next company produces a wide range of electrical equipment: light bulbs, cable products and various types of switchboard equipment.

The company's partners are leading manufacturers of electrical products: SGC (Belgium), ASCO (USA), LIFASA (Spain), ARDIC (Turkey), KIWA (Slovakia), POWER (Poland), OLMEX (Poland), CETINKAYA PANO (Turkey), CWS (Czech Republic).

Unlike the previous version, the cost of this outlet is very low, which, given its 16A load, is very good. The price is only approx. 400-500 rub.

E.Next e.control.t14

Another model of a smart socket with a timer from E.Next only with electronic control for a week. A very good device with all the necessary functionality and extremely simple controls. Set the required schedule for turning the power on and off for every day throughout the week. The maximum current is 16A.

The build quality for the money, as we have already reported, is at a fairly high level. Domestic production using developments and components from leading European manufacturers of electrical products.

Feron TM22/61925

A Russian manufacturer that produces inexpensive products that are perfect for conditions in Russian realities. Quite good devices, but not the most reliable. The manufacturer provides a warranty period of only 14 days, which is somewhat alarming, but sellers usually know which batch has the fewest returns, so be interested.

Otherwise the model has maximum load 16A and is equipped with an electronic programmer with a weekly duration. There is a simple LCD display that displays the time and the entire settings process.

This is a pretty good model for the money, so if you want to save money, you can buy an outlet with a timer for about 700-800 rub.

DigiTOP PB-1C

Although the model has electronic control, the maximum timer operating time is only 24 hours. But the electronics greatly simplifies setting the timer and expands its capabilities. You can set a variety of time intervals, and not a specific cyclic one, as happens with models with mechanical control.

The maximum current level is 10A, which is more than suitable for an average apartment. The manufacturer is domestic and produces quite good devices with high quality and reliability. The prices are not the cheapest, as for our manufacturers. This socket costs 900-1000 rub., which is not cheap compared to the previous options and its capabilities.

HS Electro T-10ts

Another interesting manufacturer of domestic relays, timers and related electrical equipment. this model its characteristics are similar to the previous one and has a daily programmer, but with electronic control, which, unlike mechanical ones, makes it more reliable and durable. The settings are more flexible; you can set completely different on and off cycles. Maximum current - 10A.

Quite a popular model with high build quality and a decent manufacturer’s warranty. You can purchase the model on the Russian market for 1300 rub..

There can be quite a lot of situations when you need to automatically turn on your computer. Someone is trying to configure the receipt of updates for the system, someone starts downloading torrents, considering the time to turn on the PC the most suitable for the minimum payment for traffic, and for someone turning on the terminal or laptop is necessary for the alarm to go off, etc. Below we will consider several methods that allow you to set up automatic computer startup on a schedule. There are at least three methods used: using the settings of the primary BIOS/UEFI systems, operating tools Windows systems and specialized programs from third-party developers, which, however, have much greater capabilities than standard means and tools.

Automatically turning on the computer: user misconceptions

But before moving on to the main topic, it’s worth saying a few words about the most common misconceptions that exist among ordinary users.

For some reason, many people believe that such settings can only be made if the stationary terminal or laptop is in sleep mode or in hibernation mode.

Nothing like this! In such modes, the computer is clearly not in the off state, and the process of turning it on is nothing more than waking up from sleep. But how can you configure the computer to automatically turn on at a time if it is completely turned off? For stationary PCs, the main condition is the availability of power (the terminal must not be disconnected from the power supply). With laptops, the situation is much simpler, since they are powered by an internal battery, and you can disconnect them from the network completely painlessly, but only if the battery is fully or at least partially charged.

How to set the computer to turn on automatically in the BIOS

First, let's look at ways to set the necessary parameters in primary systems. BIOS Settings slightly different from the parameters more modern systems UEFI.

So, the first thing when you turn on your PC or laptop is to log in using the keys or their combinations (for laptops they can vary quite a lot, but for stationary terminals the Del key is mainly used). The combination you are using will appear briefly on the start screen.

Typically, turning on your computer automatically can be configured in the Power Management section or in the ACPI Configuration settings. In both cases, you need to find the Power-On by Alarm parameter or something similar and set it to Enabled. Just below you need to indicate the days on which the activation will take place and the time. The Everyday value corresponds to daily activation. If you set the calendar date from the 1st to the 31st, the computer will turn on once a month on the scheduled day and time, which seems somewhat inconvenient. There are no settings for multiple dates in the BIOS options.

Configuring enablement in UEFI

In newer UEFI systems, you can also configure the computer to turn on on a schedule. After entering the parameters when starting your PC or laptop, you need to switch to advanced mode by pressing the F7 key.

On the “Advanced” tab, select the APM item, and in the list that appears, the corresponding button activates the power-on mode via RTC, sets the time and days for power-on activation, after which the installed options are saved upon exit.

Initial steps in the Task Scheduler

In principle, in order not to rummage through the settings of the primary systems, you can use the tools of the operating system itself, which is called the task scheduler (in most cases, automatic turning on and off of the computer in Windows 10 or in earlier systems is done with its help, although you can turn it off use the same optimization programs, which turn off the computer on its own after completing a scheduled scan and eliminating any problems found).

First, you should go to the power supply section, go to additional parameters in the settings of the current scheme, find the sleep item in the list displayed and check the box for allowing sleep timers. After this, you can start working with the task scheduler.

The scheduler itself can be called through a search or through the “Control Panel”. But most in a fast way access to it is considered to be using the “Run” console, in which the command taskschd.msc is written.

In the editor window, the scheduler libraries section is selected on the left, and the option to create a new task is used on the right. After this, you need to come up with a name for the task being created and enter it short description.

Creating a trigger

The next step is to go to the triggers tab, where you need to click the create trigger button (as a rule, the main field will be empty).

After setting the necessary options, you should move to the actions tab and select from the list, say, display a message that will appear when you turn on the computer.

In the message title and text fields, enter what you think is necessary (for example, “Good morning!”) and save the changes.

Note: You can select other playback options from the Actions list. music file, start downloading a torrent, installing an update, etc.

Setting conditions

Finally, the most important option. In the conditions tab window, you need to deactivate all items if they are active, leaving only the line to wake up the computer to complete the task.

If you do not use it, there can be no talk of any automatic turning on of the computer.

When saving the installed options, if the settings were made for a specific user registered in the system, a confirmation window may be displayed for entering the login and password that were initially used to log into the system.

Upon completion of all actions, make sure that automatic setting active, you can see the created task appear in the main scheduler window, for which the status column will indicate “Ready”.

Third party utilities

You can also use third-party utilities to set automated power-on parameters. One of the simplest, but very interesting, is a program for automatically turning on or off the computer called Time PC.

Quick setup for daily modes is made by activating the “Off/On” item. PC", and to set the days of the week on which this action will be activated, you should use the scheduler section. After setting the necessary options, all that remains is to press the start button, after which the task will be executed at the specified frequency at the selected time.

The Auto Power-on & Shut-down utility is just as simple. It also uses a setting in the scheduler section, but the application has much more possibilities, since it allows you to automate some other modes (hibernation, reboot, shutdown, launching programs, stopping processes, opening files or links on the Internet, etc.).

Another app is Wake Me Up. It can be called a kind of lightweight version of the Windows Task Scheduler. But the settings made by creating a new task here are simpler and more understandable.

Disabling the installed mode

Finally, a few words about how to disable automatic computer startup. In general, it all comes down to deactivating the installed mode. On primary systems, this mode is set to Disabled. In the scheduler, the created task is deleted. To shutdown without deleting the task, simply change the settings of the sleep timers, which were described above for the power section.

What to give preference to?

The only question that remains unresolved is which of everything described is best used from a practical point of view. As many have already understood, the easiest way is to use special programs, since they are distinguished by maximum ease of setup and the ability to set the computer to be turned on/off by day of the week during the month. The parameters of the primary systems also do not look particularly complicated. And actions with the scheduler, by and large, duplicate BIOS/UEFI settings, adding only the ability to create a task description, display a message, or configure other actions.

But, based purely on practical considerations, I think the best option would be to use the Auto Power-on & Shut-down program, since it is the one that has the most expanded tools for all occasions. Some users may object that the use of third-party utilities will result in them constantly working in and “hanging” in the system tray as a dead weight. One may not agree with this, since initially in such applications resource consumption is minimized as much as possible, and they are activated only according to the schedule established for the execution of the created tasks. Actually, if you look at it, it triggers once a day, unless several tasks are planned in the settings.

Today there is a sufficient amount of software with which we can control the automatic turning on of the computer according to a schedule. But I want to note that automatically turning on the PC using programs is only possible when it is in “sleep” mode.

That is, a computer that is in “sleep mode,” as it would be easier to say, is already turned on. It simply “wakes up” and does not turn on.

It turns out (I was ashamed not to know this :)), you can configure the computer to automatically turn on according to a schedule and even when it is COMPLETELY OFF! Modern BIOSes that come with PC motherboards have settings to automatically turn on a switched off computer according to a schedule.

At the beginning of my acquaintance with computers (since 1995), such a setting in the BIOS could only be dreamed of. For what purposes you can use turning on the computer automatically is up to you to decide.

For example, from the most banal - using a PC as an alarm clock, turning it on to distribute or download torrents while you are away, servicing your computer, or even when you are at work or on a business trip, etc.

I note that the fourth computer I tested, purchased 6 years ago, did not yet have this feature. Let's now move directly to the BIOS settings.

How to enter the BIOS depends on the configuration of your motherboard, mainly by pressing the Delete or F2 key on the keyboard at the initial stage of booting the computer. View hint by necessary keys you can immediately when you turn on the PC.

Settings for daily activation at certain hours/minutes/seconds become available.

Or a specific date, hours/minutes/seconds.

If you no longer need to automatically turn on your computer on a schedule, simply disable (“Disabled”) the “Power On By RTC Alarm” setting.

Unfortunately, these are all the BIOS versions on which I was able to test the function of automatically turning on the computer. If you have a different basic input/output system (BIOS), then you will already know where to dig. And finally, I suggest you watch a short video
