After you click Ok, a new section will appear in the main program window, but the operation itself will not be completed until you confirm the execution by clicking the checkbox on the control panel to run the assigned tasks.

After confirmation and Acronis Disk Director receives the necessary data, you will be prompted to restart your computer.

While the program is running, the operating system will be unavailable, wait until the operation is completed and do not turn off the computer!

2. Create a new system partition.
To create a new system partition, we need an unallocated area on the hard drive. If one does not exist, it must be created.

Select a volume that has enough free space and use the "Resize Volume" menu item.

By moving the slider along the scale, determine the size of the future section (unallocated area) and apply the planned actions.

Creating partitions or changing their sizes is done in the first menu item "Resize Volume". Now we will look at the operation of resizing partitions using Acronis Disk Director, but from it you will also learn how to create partitions. To get free space, first click in the list on the partition or disk from which you will take free space. Typically this is drive "C". And so click (select) drive “C” and then click on the “Change volume size” button.

In the window that appears, you see a disk (Volume) size control bar at the top. There is also all the necessary information about the disk: disk name and letter, partition type and its size, as well as maximum size, which can be assigned to this disk. The circles at the edges of the ruler are like handles, allowing you to hook the mouse and pull the ruler in any direction. If you drag the left circle to the right, the size of the section will begin to decrease, and free space will appear on the left, that is, in front of this section. But you don't need it.

Pull the right circle to the left and you will begin to free up space on the right, that is, after your section. You can also manage the volume size in the "Volume Size" window by clicking on the down and up arrows, as well as in the "Unallocated space before volume" and "Unallocated space after volume" windows. All these windows are interconnected. And if something goes wrong in one window, then everything can be easily corrected in another window. But for me it’s better to manage the line. There you can clearly see where things are being reduced and where things are being added. And so you drag the right circle to the left.

When your partition size is reduced to the required size you will stop (in our case it is 25 GB required for Windows 7). You will have drive "C" and unallocated space located on the right, that is, after your drive. Which will be displayed in the lower part, where now there is only a piece reserved by the system and two volumes “C” and “D”, as well as in the window in the middle on the right. Next, click the “OK” button.

The size control window disappears and in the main window you have partition “C” with the desired reduced size (in our case 25 GB) and unallocated space after it, which will need to be attached to partition “D”. In the line below top menu Instead of "Run" there was a button "Apply pending operations" and the number of operations (now only 1). There is no need to press this button yet. Now attach the free space to the "D" drive.

To do this, select the partition (volume) “D” and click the “Resize volume” button.

Now in the size control bar you can see the free space in front of the partition, the partition size "D" and the maximum size to which you can increase. Click on the left circle with your mouse and drag it all the way to the left.

All unallocated space was added to volume "D" and its size increased. Click the "OK" button.

There are only two sections left in the list “C” and “D” with changed sizes and the button above “Apply pending operations” now displays two operations. Click on this button.

The Pending Operations window opens. Move the scroll bar so that the entire contents of the window are visible. Are you checking to see if you did everything correctly?

In terms of demands, the program does not show large requests: a processor is needed with a frequency of 800 MHz, 256 MB of RAM is enough, and there should be 150 MB of space on the hard drive. The developers customized the installer specifically for themselves. The interface itself and the installation process remained standard, but several additional steps were added.

There is one more nuance during installation. Upon completion, the start screen opens, where you can select the “Installation” or “Check for updates” option. With each update of the program, its design changes. This version of the program is dominated by pastel colors, and the color palette is reminiscent of iOS applications.
The developers adjusted the application for “seven” and “eight”, so the utility looks great on these systems. In addition, the application's feature set has become much larger, but the number of keys has decreased slightly. Now understanding the program has become much easier.

For example, one function can be found in different places. On the left side of the window there is a list of “Operations”, where there are more than a dozen keys. Using these buttons, you can perform all sorts of operations on volumes. However, the same functions are found in the Volume Management section.

If you remove all the duplicate functions, you can free up quite a lot of space, and the interface will become much cleaner. But the program does not allow you to customize the interface and you cannot remove the keys either. However, if you pay attention to the balance of the design, this flaw is practically unnoticed.

Another drawback is the hot keys, which are simply not present in the program, although they would be great for basic functions. All actions take place in the first window of the program. Here you can select the required operation for disks or partitions. By selecting required function, a wizard will open that will show you what needs to be done and provide a choice of functions, so you just need to click on them and click “Next”.

The main menu has a mode called “Show Log”. You can access it from the “View” menu at the top of the screen. In this case, some window elements, keys and menu functions change. In log mode, you can view completed actions. You can save, update, and delete them.

For each action, the date, time, code and user who performed it are displayed. It is impossible to restore or perform the selected action again from the log. It only displays information.

There are several bugs in the program. If you are in some application menu for a long time, then there is a high probability that after a while you will be thrown out of it. This happens almost all the time. However, this does not happen when working with disks, everything runs smoothly, so you don’t have to worry about the operating system.

In general, the program has a pretty good and at the same time neat interface. Some interface elements can be customized. Among them are fields in tables that can be resized, a list of additional manipulations and tools can be removed from the main window, and the window itself can be resized. Not every similar software allows you to carry out such actions.

However, the main purpose of the application is to create and control disk partitions. This tool can be useful if you need to store different operating systems or file systems on one drive, if you need to format partitions, mark them as active, assign letters to them, etc.

Basically, partitioning a disk is necessary to obtain the desired level of information security. In this case, it is advisable to use ordinary and system files keep on different drives. In this situation, you can hope that a failure in some program or service will not cause the loss of a large amount of information. If all the information is stored on one disk, then there is a chance of losing everything at once.

Previously, partitioning a disk was quite difficult and had to be done only when installing the operating system. Then the situation became a little easier, however, new disks still required freeing up space, which reduced the volume active disk. Having created an additional logical drive, it was necessary to manually transfer all folders and files to it.
