Sony Xperia T3: first look. Smartphone Sony Xperia T3: characteristics, review, photos, reviews Xperia t3

New from Sony: 7 mm thick, stainless steel inserts, LTE support, good display and rather strange positioning. Let's try to figure this out on our own.

Design, construction

The company says that this is the first Sony smartphone to use stainless steel, but in reality this steel is invisible - the stripes on the ends could have been larger. The device is thin, light, dimensions - 150.7 x 77 x 7 mm, weight - 148 grams, there is no protection from water, but still Sony could not get rid of the plug; under it there is a memory card and a SIM card. The ends are rounded to make it easier to lift the device from the table and to make it feel even lighter. Traditionally, there are three colors: black, white and purple - the back of a black smartphone is matte, it seems that it is not particularly easily soiled.

The company talks about image, but I didn’t see anything particularly image-based here - another Android smartphone. I would like to remind you that the last time the company talked so much about style and this very “image” was during Sony Xperia ray. But, you see, this is absolutely different devices. In my opinion, the promotion of the T series should be approached from the other side; it is a good (probably) device in terms of price-quality ratio, but nothing more. Otherwise, it turns out strange, the T2 phablet is price-quality, and T3 is an image? Out of the blue? Traditionally, Sony does not announce prices, they only say that this device is from the upper-middle category, it is better not to translate it into Russian, it sounds stupid. And T3 will not cost 14,000 rubles, the price will probably be 19,990 rubles.

There are no questions about the assembly; the light indicator is located in the speaker grille. On the right side there is a recognizable power button, a small volume rocker and a shooting button. The metal looks good, but there is too little of it.

Here's one more thing important point, the T3 uses a regular 3.5mm jack, meaning you won't be able to use a dedicated microphone or noise-canceling headset. If you want similar functionality, look at other Xperia.

Display

The diagonal of the IPS display is 5.3 inches, resolution is 720 x 1280 pixels, the picture here is not bad, I didn’t notice any film on the screen, but it will finally be clear when the T3 goes on sale. Viewing angles are good, brightness is typical for Sony smartphones, and the screen is similar to the one used in the Xperia Z2.

Performance

Sony now has the largest line of devices with LTE, the new product is no exception; 4G support is announced (all operators). Naturally, there is Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0. Uses quad-core Snapdragon Qualcomm 400 processor, Adreno 305 video adapter, 1 GB random access memory, 8 GB of pre-installed memory. There is also a slot for microSD cards(cards up to 64 GB are supported). operating system Android 4.4 with pre-installed software, its own wallpaper, redrawn icons - but in general, there are fewer changes here than in Samsung smartphones.

Camera

It uses an 8 MP camera, the long-familiar Exmor RS sensor, supports video shooting in Full HD format, and has autofocus. The front camera resolution is 1.1 MP. All the signature Xperia features are also in the T3, these are AR Effect (my favorite augmented reality with gnomes and dinosaurs), Timeshift burst, 31 frames in a couple of seconds with the ability to choose the best one, background defocusing and so on.

Nutrition

A 2500 mAh battery is installed, the stated operating time is 13 hours of talk time. It seems to me that the device will work from morning to evening under heavy load, then it will need to be charged. But we will be able to verify this only when commercial samples appear.

conclusions

The device will go on sale in mid-summer. approximate price– about 20,000 rubles, these are just my guesses. The device turned out strange. Probably, behind all the talk about image there is only one thing hidden - the desire to expand the range. The main thing you need to know about the Sony Xperia T3 is a thin and light Android smartphone with a good display, there is metal (although it is almost invisible), LTE, memory card support, interesting appearance. As always, white looks more interesting than others. Well, as usual, I’ll ask you a question: did you like the Sony Xperia T3? Would you like to buy such a device? Write in the comments.

- it was quite interesting offer for those who need a functional “shovel” for little money. The gadget was equipped with a large 6-inch display, a camera with a 13-megapixel Exmor RS sensor and pleasant bonuses such as support for working with two SIM cards. However, Sony did not allow the T2 Ultra to live on the market longer, replacing it with the Xperia T3.

Such big Sony Xperia T2 Ultra Dual

On paper, the Xperia T3 is no better or worse than its predecessor - it's just different. Its screen is not that big by modern standards - only 5.3 inches. There is no outstanding hardware in it either - the device has the well-known Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 system-on-chip (by the way, the same one was in the T2 Ultra Dual), a gigabyte of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera. Here's a different middle class from Sony.

⇡ Appearance and ergonomics

The thickness of the case is only seven millimeters, which is quite small. For comparison: even the flagship Xperia Z3 is thicker - 8.3 mm. The device is not heavy - it weighs 148 grams. The frames around the display are small, and your hands do not get tired even after prolonged use of the device. In general, anyone who has come to terms with the currently accepted screen sizes will find it quite convenient to use the Xperia T3. The rest are categorically shown Xperia Z3 Compact.

Sony Xperia T3 - front side

The fundamental difference between the T3 case and other modern devices model range Sony is that the inserts on the side ends are made not of aluminum, plastic or glass, but of stainless steel. The rest of the building is decorated in corporate style Xperia family.

Sony Xperia T3 with display on

The button layout is standard: the power key, the volume rocker and the physical camera button are on the right side. There are also slots for microSD and micro-SIM cards, hidden under a common cover.

Sony Xperia T3 - body thickness is only seven millimeters

When looking at it, one might mistakenly think that the body of the device is dust- and moisture-proof, like older models. We hasten to disappoint our dear reader: this is not so. This is the price to pay for the small thickness of the device.

Sony Xperia T3 - hardware keys on the end and slots for SIM cards and memory cards

The micro-USB interface is located on the left side, the universal audio jack is located on the top edge. The bottom end of the device is empty. It's very easy to get used to the device and make friends with it - this can be said about most Sony smartphones.

Sony Xperia T3 - interfaces on the side faces

The non-removable “back” of the Xperia T3 is made of matte plastic, pleasant to the touch. The gadget does not slip out of your hands and does not try in every possible way to escape from the owner. Unfortunately, the surface is quite easily soiled - getting rid of the “fingers” is not easy, and they collect faster than we would like.

Sony Xperia T3 - rear panel

The color schemes of the smartphone are standard. The gadget is available in white, black and signature bright purple colors. We have some comments regarding the assembly of the device. A traditional test showed that the case lacked rigidity - when the sides were squeezed, large quantities of colored streaks appeared on the screen.

⇡ Technical specifications

Introduction

Average price segment There is always a pretty tough fight for the consumer. Each manufacturer tries to offer its own vision of an affordable and at the same time universal smartphone, adding something of its own to the design and software. Sony Xperia T3 is pure Sonystyle of recent years at a price of up to 15,000 rubles and with a large display. Let's figure out what else is interesting in it.

Equipment

In addition to the device itself, the device comes with microUSB cable, power adapter (EP800) 5 V and 850 mA and wired headset (MH410c). The latter in terms of sound quality, of course, does not have enough stars in the sky, but it is quite suitable for a less experienced user. With these included headphones, you can answer calls and pause playback, since the cable has one single button and a microphone hole. We didn’t find anything else interesting included with the smartphone, so let’s move on.

Appearance

On the front and sides we see the familiar design that is common to all latest smartphones from Sony. In many ways, the T3 no longer looks like a smartphone, but like a smaller model of the Z2 Tablet or even the Z3 Tablet compact. This is facilitated by the elongated shape of the device, as well as the presence of wide frames at the top and bottom of the display. By the way, they provide a very comfortable grip in a horizontal screen orientation. Seasoned gamers will appreciate this.

If the space below is completely empty, then above the screen there is a standard set of elements of any modern device: front camera eye, earpiece mesh along with various events indicator, as well as ambient light sensor and proximity sensor.

The glossy edges of the edging protrude slightly over the entire front surface. This has not yet been seen in the Xperia series smartphones, but this is not bad and does not affect the ease of use, but rather the opposite - it gives the device a certain charm, if you like.

Along the perimeter of the smartphone there are shiny stainless steel metal inserts. On the right side there are volume buttons, a camera key and a standard key responsible for activating the screen. Slots for a memory card (microSD) and SIM cards are hidden nearby under a flap.

The use of covers even for smartphones with no protection from dust and moisture has become the norm for Sony. T3 belongs to the same category of devices. The left side only has an uncovered microUSB port.

At the top there is a headphone jack (3.5 mm), and at the bottom there is a microphone hole and a strap loop recessed into the case.

Right in the center on the back of the smartphone is a raised “Sony” inscription. Above it there is an NFC tag, and in the upper right corner there is a camera eye, an LED flash, and below all there is a microphone hole.

The bezel of the rear camera protrudes just a little above the body, since the entire back cover has beveled corners.

On the bottom of the rear panel there is a hole for an external speaker. The latter is distinguished by above-average volume and no more. By the way, if you activate the xLoud function from the sound parameters, the main speaker will “sing” a little louder than usual. I don't know why the engineers didn't set this setting by default.

In progress

And now for the weird stuff. Sony decided to change their rule and installed a matte, non-removable cover on the back of the smartphone instead of the usual glass. This is not soft-touch, but noticeably rougher plastic. The surface easily collects fingerprints, dust and scratches. However, they disappear on their own over time. Thus, we get both a practical and at the same time impractical coating, because scratches and traces of use can almost always be found on the back of the smartphone.

As for tactile sensations, the back surface does not bring any particular positive emotions. Simple, matte, slightly soft, but not entirely pleasant to the touch plastic.

However, this also has its advantage. The device lies very securely in the hand and does not slip out.

There is no ever-present threat of falling, as there was, for example, in the iPhone 6.

At the edges, the back of the device has rounded corners and due to this, the smartphone as a whole is perceived as thinner than it actually is.

Speaking of dimensions. The T3's dimensions are not small, but not gigantic, as was the case with the Xperia Z Ultra. Let's look at the comparison table:

Due to its thickness and rounded edges, the device is very easy to handle.

It is, of course, impossible to operate the device with one hand, but this can easily be forgiven for its light and thin body. In general, the T3 is assembled perfectly; no backlashes, squeaks or other crimes were noticed.

Display

The 5.3-inch diagonal is very comfortable for most tasks. The smartphone uses a TFT matrix with HD resolution. Of course, I would like to have a higher pixel density, but the resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels did not bother me at all. The branded shell with high-quality fonts and icons seriously smooths out all these corners.

It is worth remembering that the Xperia T3 is an average smartphone with big screen and LTE support, and not some flagship. The presence of maximum pixel density indicators is not a priority here. There are moderate savings on performance here.

If we compare the display of our hero with the previous flagship Xperia Z2, then the T3 loses on all fronts: resolution, brightness, color rendition are better in the older smartphone. However, these are different devices, and the photos below are for general purposes only. In the photo, the company's previous flagship is above, and the T3 is below.

In the pictures you can see that the display turns a little green into the image. This drawback is partly solved manual setting white balance from the menu.

In any case, this screen behavior is noticeable only when directly compared with another device.

Of course, the light sensor on the front panel is responsible for automatic brightness adjustment. And there is one strange thing.

If there is a sudden change in ambient lighting, for example, when leaving the entrance to a sunny street, the Sonya screen remains unreadable for about 5-7 seconds.

Subsequently, the sensor still works and turns the screen brightness to maximum, due to which the smartphone becomes comfortable to use even in bright sunshine. Despite the TFT technology used in the manufacture of the screen, due to the high brightness of the backlight, the picture remains readable even in direct sunlight.

Specifications Sony Xperia T3 (D5103):

  • processor Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8928-2 1.4 GHz (4 cores)
  • Adreno 305 video chip
  • RAM 1 GB (384 MB available after reboot)
  • 8 GB data storage memory (4.98 GB actually available)
  • map support microSD memory(up to 32 GB)
  • 5.3" display based on a TFT matrix with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (up to four simultaneous touches)
  • main camera 8 megapixels
  • front camera 1.1 megapixels
  • battery 2500 mAh
  • OS Android 4.4.2
  • USB v. 2.0 (OTG supported)

Networks and Interfaces

  • GSM GPRS/EDGE (2G), UMTS HSPA (3G), LTE (4G)
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, aGPS / GLONASS

Don't expect serious performance from the T3. This smartphone has other advantages and is not designed to score maximum parrots in synthetic tests. No, of course you can play all modern games, but you shouldn’t count on additional visual effects in them.

The device behaves perfectly when scrolling through menus and settings. The proprietary shell is very well optimized.

The only lag that I was able to notice during testing was the inhibited behavior of the keyboard when switching to address bar in the browser (Chrome) or to search in the store Google Play. For example, you are scrolling through some Internet page, you want to go to another address and you tap on the address bar field. So you can type something there in 3-4 seconds and not earlier.

The keyboard does not fall out immediately, but only after a while, which is a little annoying.

The main camera uses Sony's own Exmore RS photo module with a resolution of 8 megapixels. The maximum resolution of images does not exceed 3264 by 2448 pixels.

The image quality of this matrix has not improved since last year; in other words, the T3 has a very average camera and nothing more.

In the settings you can activate image stabilization, which is best used in the dark, or HDR mode. The latter is only good for scenes with good ambient lighting.

Additional shooting modes include AR effect, which adds various objects from additional reality(dinosaurs, gnomes, fish, etc.), Timeshift burst, which allows you to create several dozen frames at once and later select the best one, panorama mode, and others.

All these scenarios are interesting and well-developed. A detailed description of them can be found in our reviews about and.

You don't need to look far for examples of photographs. They are all here, in front of you:

The maximum ISO value is 1600 and is available from manual mode. However, for taking pictures in harsh, dark conditions, it is better to use an automatic shooting scenario. The photo on the right edge clearly demonstrates this in the example below:

The 1.1 MP front camera allows you to take pictures and videos with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (HD). Here you can adjust image stabilization and set the soft skin effect. There are no special tools for taking selfies.

In principle, if there is physical button shutter release and you don’t need to come up with anything extra. Pointed, clicked and got a shot.

We can safely say thank you to the Japanese engineers for this separate button.

Video recording

The maximum video resolution from the camera is 1920 x 1080 pixels (FullHD). Interestingly, HDR video adjustment and SteadyShot image stabilization can work simultaneously.

Additionally, you can adjust the exposure, activate a continuously burning flash, or select a preset from ready-made shooting modes.

Example video below:

Sound

The sound quality through the headphones is excellent. The sound is lively and pleasant.

In this parameter, the Xperia T3 is comparable to many of its competitors, both within the Sony line and with smartphones from other manufacturers.

Walkman is used as an application for playing audio. The concept of design and settings is familiar to all products from the Japanese giant. At the forefront is a proprietary sound enhancer called ClearAudio+. I like this setting and always use it when listening to music through my smartphone. The sound becomes brighter and more pronounced. By at least, In my opinion.

In the options, you can go to the 5-band equalizer, increase the bass with Clear Bass, adjust the surround sound, etc. In general, everything here is the same as in any Sony flagship.

Audiophiles will be interested in information on support for playback files: MP4, ADTS, 3GPP, MP4, AMR, FLAC, Matroska, SMF, XMF, Mobile XMF, OTA, RTTTL, RTX, iMelody, MP3 (.mp3), WAV, OGG, ASF .

The device is capable of playing video in the following formats: 3GPP, MP4, Matroska, AVI, Xvid, WebM with the corresponding codecs: MPEG-4, H.263, H.264, VP8, VP9.

Battery

The T3 is non-removable accumulator battery, which has a capacity of 2500 mAh. This is quite enough for the smartphone to live without recharging for a day with very active use. With moderate use (two hours of Internet via Wi-Fi, ten photos a day, receiving notifications from social networks in the background) the device will easily last 1.5 - 2 days. Not bad indicators.

Of course, it hasn't gone anywhere STAMINA mode, allowing the smartphone to save on wireless modules when the screen is off. In other words, the system cuts off Wi-Fi and cellular data. There are also additional settings Energy saving options, where you can manually turn off some features and applications.

Bottom line

Most recently, the price of the Sony Xperia T3 in official retail dropped to 13,990 rubles. The smartphone has become much more attractive, since in this price category there are not many players with such a large screen (5.3") and LTE support. The HTC Desire 816 can be cited as a rival, but it has a thicker body (7.9 versus 7 mm for the Xperia) and a larger display (5.5 inches). In all other respects they are very close and differ, by and large, only in appearance. Personally, I am more close to the OmniBalance design concept from the Japanese.

The only downside of the device I can name is the camera. She really could have been better. What's the rest? The hardware is mediocre, but the software is very well debugged, except for the occasional brooding keyboard.

And this “Sonya” is available in three colors. There are classic white and black shades, as well as a cool purple.

Should I buy Sony Xperia T3?

It is thin and has convenient dimensions, making the device a pleasure to use. To decide on a purchase for yourself, I advise you to hold the device in your hands before purchasing. Open your browser, follow a couple of links, launch the player, look at your desktop settings. It should fit into your hand (and soul) like it’s your own, and then the purchase will become justified.

1 GB of RAM is de facto the norm for HD resolution, but recently many manufacturers have begun to install 1.5 GB. Knowing how power-hungry Android is, you can expect delays in the future. Sony only benefits from this: the short release cycle of new gadgets forces it to use every possible means to encourage users to change their smartphones more and more often. Lack of RAM is not a very neat, but effective way of applying pressure in this case.

The storage is not impressive in size - only 8 GB, of which even less is available. Everything leads to the use of memory cards, and that's okay. How many of you use an Android smartphone without a card?

The built-in battery has a capacity of 2500 mAh, which is quite good for such a small thickness of the case, and even compared to competitors. In fact, the autonomy of the smartphone is not very high, except that in standby mode the battery is almost not discharged.

Software

The Xperia T3 software platform includes Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS and the proprietary Timescape shell pre-installed on top. Exterior design user interface familiar to users of Xperia devices. Simple and user-friendly interface is not overloaded with external frills and looks discreet. At the same time, the menu can be simplified even further, which will be convenient for those who do not use the smartphone’s capabilities to the fullest.

A decent amount of time has already passed since the announcement of this smartphone, so it’s too late to prepare a full review for it, but the format of ten facts is just right to note all the positive and negative qualities of the device.

No. 1. Design

What cannot be taken away from Sony smartphones is their original appearance. Whatever device it is, budget or flagship, you will immediately understand that it is Sony. Of course, we are talking about the beautiful combination of metal and glass (or plastic) and bright colors. The same Xperia T3 is available not only in black or white, but also in purple, the latter I often associate with the Sony Z Ultra.

The famous one has not gone anywhere round button, known to us since the time of the first Sony Xperia Z.

No. 2. Housing materials and practicality

Most of back cover made of plastic with soft-touch coating. In my opinion, it is rougher here than in most other models. The disadvantage of this material has not gone away either: it quickly becomes covered with fingerprints, and it is very difficult to wipe them off.

Notice how quickly dust particles cling to such plastic

The ends of the model are made of real metal; it is not only practical, but also gives the appearance of the smartphone a certain severity characteristic of all models from Sony.

No. 3. Dimensions

The T3 has an interesting display diagonal - 5.3 inches, it is just between five inches for regular smartphone and 5.5 inches for phablets. However, the dimensions of the T3 are more consistent with phablets than with regular smartphones.

I was pleasantly surprised by the thickness of the device - only 7.7 mm, compared to its competitors this is a very good indicator.

No. 4. Display

We are talking about a mid-segment device, so the screen in it is “average” in all respects: good, but not maximum viewing angles, high, but not extremely a high resolution, etc. The same oleophobic coating, although present, is in fact significantly inferior to that found in some flagships.

And yet, from the point of view of comfort, I did not have any complaints about the device: IPS matrix, HD resolution, automatic brightness adjustment - all this is enough for the average user for most use scenarios.

No. 5. Wireless interfaces

What I love about Sony is its attention to little things like wireless interfaces: here you have LTE cat4, support for dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, NFC, and even radio with RDS support (you’ll be surprised how often people ask about the presence of a radio in a particular model!).

No. 6. Xperia Home and Android version

Personally, I really like the proprietary shell from Sony. It has a calm appearance, a large number of additional features, and the number of built-in applications is not so large compared to Samsung.

The device operates under Android control 4.4.4, which can already be called outdated, however, let’s not forget that the smartphone itself is more than a year old. To be honest, I didn’t have any problems using this version of the OS, and if I didn’t know that 6.0 had already been released, I wouldn’t have attached any importance to this parameter.

No. 7. Performance and memory

This is not a gaming smartphone, so only Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 is used as the chipset. It is noteworthy that despite not the best performance in benchmarks, there are no complaints about the model in everyday use: desktops, browser, third party applications work great.

But the amount of internal and RAM memory really upset me. While most competitors have long been using 2+16 GB, the T3 has only 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB internal memory.

No. 8. Camera

The resolution of the main camera is 8 MP, the front camera is 2 MP. Among the nice features typical of Sony smartphones, I’ll highlight a separate button to launch the camera. In the settings, you can set exactly how it launches the camera: it simply opens the application or immediately takes a photo.

Below are examples of photographs and commentary by Roman Belykh.

Considering that the device costs about 17,000 rubles, the camera used here is, to put it mildly, weak - only 8 MP, although it is Exmor RS with a BSI matrix. Unfortunately, Sony stopped updating the software, so even flagship models they hardly reach the photo quality even of mid-price segment gadgets.

Regarding the T3, the first thing that catches your eye is color noise in normal lighting conditions. In insufficient conditions, the noise reduction is triggered, and the picture becomes soapy. In addition, autofocus often lies, so a certain percentage of frames will be out of focus. White balance is generally accurate.

There are obvious problems with video shooting: autofocus is constantly “searching for the target”, the image is smeared due to the digital “stub”, detail is weak, and even one gets the impression that there is interpolation up to 1920x1080 pixels.

Overall, for that kind of money it’s a bit of a shame to use this module.

No. 9. Battery

The battery capacity is 2500 mAh, the battery is non-removable. In video viewing mode, the device lasted 5 hours, and reading mode discharged it in 9.5 hours. With everyday use, the battery lasts for one day, which is typical for smartphones in this segment.

No. 10. Price

At retail, Sony Xperia T3 can be purchased for 16,000 rubles. For this money you get beautiful smartphone with average characteristics and good speed.

Among the competitors I would highlight Lenovo Vibe X2, which has similar characteristics, but large quantity RAM and internal memory (2+32), as well as a higher display resolution (1920x1080 pixels). At the same time, it costs only 1,000 rubles more.

Another competitor can be called Huawei P8 Lite: it does not have such a high resolution, but also has a larger amount of RAM and internal memory, plus more recent Android version on board.

The latest competitor is Asus ZenFone 2: 2/4 GB of RAM and 16/32 GB of internal memory along with FHD resolution and branded shell ZenUI. True, the cost starts from 18,500 rubles.

If you want to save money, but not lose in performance, then you should pay attention to the Meizu M1 Note or Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.

As you can see, T3 has many strong opponents; against their background, the smartphone has only one competitive advantage - its original appearance, and then the question of priorities arises, what is more important to you, a beautiful or functional smartphone.
