Positioning

With positioning, everything is quite clear: the device is for those who need a “long-lasting” phone. I’ll add that the potential buyer has either never dealt with smartphones or categorically does not accept touch screen for several reasons. Perhaps, as an option, the E560 is bought as a second device for a hike or to the country (for some people this is the same thing). However, it is worth noting that a person must have a tidy sum to buy a Philips E560, since the phone costs no less than 7,000 rubles.

Frankly speaking, I don’t quite understand Philips (read: the Chinese company China Electronics Corporation) and its logic. Yes, on Yandex.Market there are practically no competitors with a 3100 mAh battery. However, this way you can use a 10,000 mAh battery in your phone: there will be no competitors at all, but the price will also rise (according to Philips’ logic) to 15,000 rubles.

After a little googling in various popular online stores, I came to the conclusion that for $30 - $50 it’s easy to buy a Chinese gadget with a battery from 4000 to 9000 mAh, some of these “dialers” are also protected from water and dust. Even if the manufacturers lied real capacity(not 5000 mAh, but, say, 3000 mAh), then it seems to me that it’s not a pity to pay 1,500 - 2,500 rubles.

Design, dimensions, control elements

I won’t talk long about the appearance of the Philips E560: in my opinion, it looks like a standard one push-button telephone in the Philips style (flat control buttons, large number keys, black and gray color scheme, large “Philips” and “Xenium” inscriptions). In general, I would like to say that over time the manufacturer stopped producing beautiful phones. All that remains is to remember the cool Siemens S35, S45, S55 and others.

The dimensions of the E560 are 126.2x52x15.9 mm and it weighs 138 grams. It fits perfectly in the hand due to its not too large size (compared to modern phablets), smooth outlines, and smoothed corners. The device is not slippery, since the back side is made of soft-touch plastic.

The inserts on parts of the front and rear panels are made of gray semi-gloss plastic. A small edging along the perimeter of the front side is dark-colored soft-touch plastic. The edging of the case is made of the same material.

The screen is protected by durable glass. The manufacturer does not say which one specifically, but after a couple of weeks of active use there were no scratches or abrasions left on the surface. There is a weak oleophobic coating, fingerprints are noticeable, but are easily erased.

The control buttons are made of metal, the digital ones are made of black plastic. The backing of the digital buttons is translucent plastic and is easily scratched. They say that the frame is made of metal. However, this is difficult to verify.

On the front side at the top there is a speech speaker. It has a volume slightly above average, the quality of speech transmission is good: the interlocutor can be heard clearly, and you can also be heard quite loudly and intelligibly. In general, the speaker is not bad, but for 7,000 rubles you expect something more sophisticated from a speaker: at least there was a reserve in volume.

On the right is an indicator of missed events.

Below the screen are navigation buttons. They are conditionally divided into 4 zones: “Reception” + “Menu”, “Hang Up” + “Contacts”, control and the “OK” button in the center. They are flat and painted black. The third and fourth groups rise slightly above the body. Using the controls and “OK” is completely inconvenient. The fact is that the distance from the screen glass to “Up” and from the bottom plastic to “Down” is only 4-5 mm! I don’t understand how to get my finger into these places. Additionally, "OK" is aligned with the surface of the control keys, so if you have large fingers, you will unfortunately hit both "OK" and "Up"/"Down" at the same time. Another unpleasant point: the control edge is sharp, and you often slip along it when navigating quickly. The sensation is unpleasant, because if you do this with force, then theoretically you can cut yourself on the edges. I'm serious.

I will express my subjective opinion. Once a few years ago I was looking for a regular push-button telephone. Philips seemed preferable, since, as a rule, only this company used high-capacity batteries. However, every time I chose one or another Xenium model, it turned out that the control buttons were flat and uncomfortable to use. I understand that this is a Philips feature, but ergonomics is a sacred matter, especially in dialers.

The digital buttons are large (12x6 mm), slightly raised above the body, the surface is embossed, so to speak, with the effect of a nail file. The buttons are well spaced, approximately 3 mm horizontally and 1.5 mm vertically. The stroke is minimal, the pressing is quite hard, a “click” sound is heard.

The numbers are large, the Cyrillic and Latin alphabet are smaller, and are marked with white paint. There is a backlight, it is dim, but in the dark it does not blind the eyes.

Microphone under "*".

At the bottom there is a micro-USB, at the top there is a 3.5 mm audio output for headphones or a headset.

On the left side there are two separate flat round buttons volume control. On the reverse side: a camera eye framed by a metal ring, a flash, a second microphone and a speaker at the bottom.

Back cover removable. The assembly is excellent, no backlash or squeaks.

Under the battery there are two miniSIM slots and a slot for a microSD memory card.

Total. A well-assembled phone, with a strict and classic appearance, but terrible control buttons.

Display

The screen diagonal in this model is 2.4 inches. Physical size– 37x49 mm, frame on top – 11 mm, frame on bottom – 9 mm, right and left – 7 mm each. However, this is not a smartphone where every millimeter is critical.

Display resolution – 240x320 pixels, density – 166 pixels per inch. Pixelation is not particularly noticeable, the image is quite clear. The matrix is IPS, so the viewing angles are large: when tilted away from you, the picture does not fade.

The matrix is recessed into the body, so between it and protective glass there is an air gap.

The backlight brightness is average, that is, everything is visible well during the day, but in the sun the screen goes blind.

In the settings, you can select wallpaper (10 of them in total or your own) and adjust the backlight - interval (always on, 1 minute, 30 or 15 seconds) and brightness (5 divisions).

On the screen there is always a tiny battery indicator and a digital clock on the top right, the network on the left, a clock with a date in the center, and “Menu” and “Contacts” at the bottom.

Battery

The coolest thing about Philips Xenium E560! The phone uses a detachable lithium ion battery(AB3100AWMT) with a capacity of 3100 mAh (11.47 Wh). The manufacturer provides data on operating time: up to 39 hours of talk time and up to 73 days of standby time.

I used the device exclusively as a “dialer” (two SIM cards were used), so the operating time was about a couple of weeks, provided that I called every day for about 25-35 minutes, wrote and sent 10-20 SMS.

It’s difficult to check such gadgets in more detail, since I don’t talk on the phone for days at a time and “squeezing out” even 10 hours of conversations is extremely difficult. I think that the manufacturer also provided approximate data. In any case, anyone can charge their phone at least once a week.

The battery can be fully charged via USB in 6 hours, from network adapter– in 3.5 hours.

Communication capabilities

Two SIM cards, the phone works only in 2G networks (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz). For the sake of decency, it was possible to install a 3G module. Even here we saved money.

To access the Internet, you can use GPRS (class 12), Opera and Java support are present. There is WAP version 2.0. In stock Bluetooth version 2.1 with A2DP profile support.

Memory and memory card

Actually, the phone has Flash memory, but only 12.5 MB. For a price of about 7,000 rubles, they offer smartphones with built-in memory up to 8 GB, and some up to 16 GB. About 10-15 years ago there were more in the dialers.

There is a slot for a memory card up to 32 GB.

Among the applications there is a file manager. It provides access to internal memory and microSD. Can create folders, delete files, view information, rename, copy and cut.

Camera

There is a 2 MP camera module installed here without autofocus. There is a small single-section flash, it is weak.

I won’t comment on the quality, because the camera, frankly speaking, is bad. The only plus is that text shot at a distance of 10 to 40 cm can be easily read.

Video – darkness – 320x480 at 5 frames per second. The sound is, to put it mildly, bad.

I understand that this is a phone and its main purpose is to make calls, but for such a price installing such cheap modules (I’m sure they are sold by weight, like 10 kg for $1) is contraindicated.

Sample photos

Hardware platform, performance, menu

The phone runs on proprietary operating system. During testing it did not freeze or slow down. Speed of moving through menus, launching applications, etc. no complaints.

The menu consists of 12 static icons:

  • Applications. Java support available
  • Connections. Opera browser and built-in
  • Multimedia. Consists of an audio player, gallery, video player, voice recorder and FM radio (does not work without headphones)
  • Camera
  • Messages
  • File manager
  • Organizer. Inside: calendar, tasks, alarm clock (5 positions), world time, stopwatch, calculator, book reading, flashlight
  • Contacts
  • Profiles
  • Bluetooth
  • Challenges
  • Settings

I won’t describe each item in detail, since all these parameters are no different from the parameters of other Philips phones. You can refer to the Philips E311 review:

I would also like to note the sound quality in the headphones. It’s very good, I don’t know how the developers achieved this: the volume is high, the sound is clear, there are bass and highs. Another question is that it is implemented rather poorly: there are no settings, no equalizer.

The volume of the polyphonic speaker is very high, but the built-in melodies are no good. The vibration is powerful, the force can be felt even in the pockets of an autumn jacket.

Conclusion

If we consider the Philips Xenium E560 without regard to cost, then this is a very high-quality device with loud speakers, good speech transmission, long autonomous operation, nice color screen, excellent assembly and appearance.

However, as soon as you think about the price, all the positive aspects disappear and you begin to look at the shortcomings: the memory is only 12 MB (not even a gigabyte!), the camera takes poor pictures, without autofocus, inconvenient control buttons, and in general, the device’s parameters are ultra-budgetary.

Of course, the E560 will definitely find its buyer, but paying 7,000 rubles just for a capacious battery is crazy, since there are cheaper analogues with good batteries:

  • Philips E180 for 4,000 rubles. 3100 mAh battery. Nobody cares (more than sure) what other performance characteristics he has
  • Philips X1560 for 3,500 rubles. 2900 mAh battery
  • SENSEIT L108 for 2,500 rubles. 2800 mAh battery
  • Fly DS132 for 2,200 rubles. 2800 mAh battery
  • Micromax X352 for 2,000 rubles. Battery 3000 mAh

Purely Chinese:

  • Xiaocai X6 for $30-$40. 5000 mAh battery, shockproof and dust and waterproof
  • XP3500 for $40-$50. 12,000 mAh battery! :)
  • Admet B30 for 3,500 rubles. 5000 mAh battery
  • Nokia J9300+ for 3,000 rubles. Battery 4800 mAh

Philips is traditionally considered a supplier of inexpensive and at the same time functional smartphones. These can be presented, however, in different price categories, and thus differ in characteristics and performance. But how pronounced can such differences be when comparing the parameters of devices in relation to the difference in their cost? What are the main price segments for Philips smartphones?

Philips smartphones: price categories

Philips smartphones, reviews of which, due to the popularity of this brand, can be found on a large number of thematic online portals, mainly belong to the budget price segment. That is, the cost of most models of the corresponding devices does not exceed 10 thousand rubles. However, there are also premium Philips smartphones - their prices exceed 20 thousand rubles. Of course, a lot depends on the marketing strategy of a particular retailer. It happens that companies offer their customers electronic devices with significant discounts.

Premium segment

If we talk about the most expensive models of mobile devices, that is, those that belong to the premium level, then among them we can highlight:

Middle segment

The devices in the middle segment of devices include:

Lower price segment

There is also a lower price segment in the line of devices of the brand in question. If we consider inexpensive smartphone"Philips", then one can be found among such solutions as:

Let's consider the main characteristics of devices in each of the noted price categories, as well as user reviews of the corresponding solutions.

Philips Premium Phones: Model X818

So, let's start our review of Philips smartphones with the premium series. The most expensive device in the corresponding segment is Philips X818.

He has:

Helio P10 processor from MediaTek;

Android OS version 6.0;

Supports 2 SIM cards;

Rear camera with a resolution of 15.93 MP, front camera with a corresponding figure of 7.99 MP;

Software modules that allow you to play the main common multimedia file formats - such as MP3, MP4, AVI, Flash;

Auto focus functions;

Supports continuous, panoramic, HDR shooting;

Digital zoom;

Touch Focus;

Face recognition function;

Interfaces for setting white balance, ISO;

Automatic shutter release;

Sensors - motion, lighting;

Accelerometer;

Fingerprint scanner;

Built-in flash memory of 32 GB;

3 GB RAM modules;

Mali T860 MP2 graphics module operating at 700 MHz;

Display with a diagonal of 5.5 inches, a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels, capacitive type with multi-touch support, a color depth of 401 pixels per inch;

Battery with a capacity of 3.9 thousand mAh;

Dual LED flash.

Indeed, these characteristics look impressive compared to those of other Philips smartphones (reviews from users and experts can confirm this) and allow us to truly classify the device as a premium segment. In terms of quality of work and ease of use, the device is rated very highly by owners and experts.

Philips premium phones: model V787

The next smartphone model that can be classified in the upper price segment is the Philips Xenium V787.

He has:

Communication support GSM standards, 3G, 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB;

Android OS version 5.1;

Supports 2 SIM cards;

Basic camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels, front camera - 5 MP;

LED flash;

Processor MT6753 from MediaTek, operating at a frequency of 1300 MHz and having 8 cores;

Built-in flash memory of 16 GB;

RAM with a capacity of 2 GB;

Mali T720 graphics chip;

IPS touch display displaying 16.78 million colors and having a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels;

These characteristics are generally comparable to those of the previous device, but, obviously, in many respects the V787 device is inferior to the X818 model. But definitely the Philips Xenium V787 device has a more capacious battery. How do users themselves evaluate the performance of the smartphone?

Reviews about the device are very positive: both in terms of ease of use, and in terms of the stability and speed of its operation. Actually, its performance reflects the given characteristics taking into account the power of the processor, RAM resource, and the speed of the graphics module. The device allows you to solve a fairly wide range of tasks related to the use of a browser and other mobile applications. Many modern games run very well on the phone.

Philips premium phones: model S616

Another premium model of Philips phones is S616.

This device has:

Standards support GSM communications, 3G, 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth;

Ability to connect to a computer via a USB cable;

Support for 2 SIM cards;

Main camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels, front camera - 5 MP;

MT6753 processor operating at 1300 MHz;

Built-in flash memory, which is 16 GB;

2 GB RAM modules;

Mali T720 graphics module;

A display capable of displaying 16.78 million colors, with a diagonal of 5.5 inches and a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels;

Battery capacity 3 thousand mAh.

It is obvious that this Philips smartphone - the characteristics given above may indicate this - is very similar, in terms of hardware capabilities, to the previous device. But its battery has a significantly shorter lifespan. Users can evaluate this device as a modern, technological product that allows you to solve a wide range of problems associated with the use of various applications.

These are premium devices from Philips. They are high-performance Philips smartphones with two SIM cards, good cameras, impressive characteristics of the processor, memory and graphics module. These devices support the most popular communication standards and are controlled by modern Android operating systems.

Let us now study the features of Philips smartphones in the mid-price range.

Philips phones in the mid-range segment: V377 device

Among these is the V377 device.

This device has:

Support for communication standards GSM, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth;

Android operating system version 5.1;

Support for 2 SIM cards;

Main camera with a resolution of 5 MP, equipped with LED flash;

Possibility of connecting to a computer via a USB cable;

GPS module;

Processor at 1300 MHz;

Built-in flash memory of 8 GB;

1 GB RAM modules;

Display with a diagonal of 5 inches, capable of displaying 16.78 million colors, IPS type, having a color depth of 294 PPI;

Battery capacity 5 thousand mAh.

Thus, if we consider Philips smartphones with powerful battery— this device can be classified as such. Taking into account the lower performance in terms of processor and memory resources, its actual battery life will be even higher than that of premium models.

In general, as users and experts may believe, the smartphone is as technologically advanced and functional as premium models, but, again, adjusted for a less powerful processor and smaller volume random access memory. Before downloading a demanding application or game onto it, you should familiarize yourself in detail with the desired characteristics of the mobile device, which are determined by the software manufacturer.

Philips phones in the mid-range segment: V526 device

Another device in the mid-price segment from Philips is the V526 device.

He has:

Android OS version 5.1;

Supports 2 SIM cards;

Camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels, equipped with an LED flash;

Supports WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB communication interfaces;

Processor operating at a frequency of 1300 MHz;

Built-in 8 GB flash memory modules, 1 GB RAM;

Screen with a diagonal of 5 inches, a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels, a pixel density per inch of 294 PPI;

Battery with a capacity of 5 thousand mAh.

Thus, we are talking about another smartphone that has a high-performance battery. In addition, we can note the fact that the device supports almost all popular communication standards. It is quite possible that in order to master the corresponding modules that the Philips smartphone in question is equipped with, you will need the manufacturer’s instructions - the experimental method will no longer be enough.

If you read reviews from users and experts about the device, you can conclude that it is rated as just as high-tech and productive a device as the others that we have studied above. The device operates very stably and allows you to solve a wide range of user tasks.

Philips phones in the mid-range segment: S396 device

The next popular device from Philips, which can rightfully be classified in the middle price range, is the S396.

He has:

Support for GSM, 3G, 4G communication technologies;

Android OS in modification 5.1;

Supports 2 SIM cards;

Basic camera with a resolution of 8 megapixels, equipped with an LED flash, front camera with the same resolution;

Supports communication standards WiFi, Bluetooth, USB;

GPS satellite module;

Processor MT6735P from MediaTek, operating at 1000 MHz;

8 GB built-in flash memory modules;

RAM 1 GB;

Mali T720 graphics chip;

Display with a diagonal of 5 inches;

Battery capacity 2.3 thousand mAh.

Thus, based on the main characteristics, the device is less productive than the Philips smartphones we reviewed above - reviews from experts can confirm this. The device has a lower processor frequency and shorter battery life. But if we talk about its versatility and ability to solve common problems, in this sense it is not much inferior to leading models, even if we talk about premium smartphones. The device can be characterized by experts and users as a high-performance, functional and reliable product.

Philips phones in the mid-range segment: I908 device

Another popular device from Philips, which can be classified as a mid-range device, is the I908 device.

It is worth noting that this decision, in principle, it is legitimate to classify it as a premium segment - based on the characteristics that it has. So, the phone contains:

Support for GSM, 3G communication standards;

Android OS version 4.4;

Supports 2 SIM cards;

Rear camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels, front camera - 5 MP;

Supports communication standards WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, and NFC;

Satellite GPS modules and GLONASS;

Processor MT6592 from MediaTek, clocked at 1700 MHz, with 8 cores;

2 GB RAM modules;

Mali 450 MP4 graphics module;

Built-in 16 GB flash memory modules;

Display with a diagonal of 5 inches, a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels;

Battery capacity of 3 thousand mAh.

Actually this device The only thing missing to be classified as a premium segment is support for 4G technology, as well as more modern version operating system. They, in turn, have premium Philips smartphones. The models of the devices that we reviewed at the beginning of the article, however, are not fundamentally superior to the I908 solution in terms of processor power and RAM resources. Therefore, if the user of this smartphone It is not particularly important to have access to 4G mobile Internet, but Android version It also doesn’t matter to him; he may well consider himself the owner of a device that is equivalent in performance to those belonging to the premium segment. In general, it can solve the same basic types of user tasks as the most powerful devices from Philips.

Philips phones in the mid-range segment: W6610 device

Next popular phone from Philips mid-segment - Philips W6610 device.

What are its main features? First of all, it is worth noting that this is not new smartphone Philips, it was released in 2014, but overall remains relevant. It is quite difficult to find it in the catalogs of official dealers; it is easier to find it through advertisements or on specialized platforms for selling equipment by individuals or small firms. It happens that the company’s specialization is the repair of Philips smartphones, and its stocks contain smartphones that have been modified in a certain way in the appropriate modification, and they can be used as if they were purchased from an official supplier. In addition, the device can be purchased at a good discount.

The device in question has:

Android OS version 4.2;

GPS module;

1 GB RAM;

Flash memory 4 GB;

Battery capacity 5300 mAh;

A 5-inch diagonal display with a resolution of 960 by 540 pixels and a density of 220 PPI;

Processor type MT6582 from MediaTek, operating at a frequency of 1.3 GHz and having 4 cores;

Mali 400MP graphics module;

Main camera with a resolution of 8 MP, additional – 1.2 MP;

Supports connection to a computer via USB.

It is obvious that the device in question can qualify for the premium segment in a number of ways - for example, in terms of battery power. However, the amount of RAM that the Philips W6610 phone has, as well as its not the most powerful processor, still suggest that it belongs to the middle segment. In which, despite the fact that there are more modern models on the market, it is quite competitive - as users and experts may think.

The device operates quite stably and allows solving a wide range of user tasks. The fact that it does not have the most modern OS installed will not have a significant impact on the performance of the device. Modern mobile applications for Android, in many cases, they are also designed for earlier versions of the OS.

Let us now study what Philips smartphones belonging to the lower price segment are. Their prices are several times lower than, in particular, those set for premium models. How big is the performance difference between smartphones in the respective categories?

Philips phones in the lower price segment: S307 device

Let's start our review of the lower price segment with the S307 device.

This device has:

Support for 2 SIM cards;

Spreadtrum SC 7731 processor running at 1.3 GHz and having 4 cores;

TFT screen with a diagonal of 4 inches and a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels;

Main camera with a resolution of 2 MP;

Frontal - 0.3 MP;

Support for communication standards GSM, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth;

512 MB RAM modules;

Built-in flash memory with a resource of 4 GB;

GPS satellite modules;

Battery capacity 1630 mAh.

Indeed, these characteristics look more modest than those that we discussed above in the context of premium device models, as well as those that belong to the middle segment. At the same time, these Philips smartphones - reviews from users and experts can confirm this - generally allow solving basic user tasks related to launching popular applications, gaining access to various Internet resources, and launching undemanding games. The difference in performance between the device in question and those in the higher segments generally reflects the price ratio between them.

Users can rate the device as reliable and functional. In terms of performance, it can be considered quite competitive with budget models supplied by other brands.

Philips phones in the low segment: S309 device

Another phone from Philips that can rightfully be classified in the lower price segment is the S309 device.

He has:

Support for 2 SIM cards;

Android operating system;

Processor MT6572 from MediaTek, operating at 1 GHz and having 2 cores;

Display with a diagonal of 4 inches, a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels;

Main camera with a resolution of 5 MP, front camera - 0.3 MP;

Support for communication standards GSM, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth;

GPS module;

1 GB RAM;

Flash memory 4 GB;

Battery capacity 1600 mAh.

In general, the characteristics of the device are similar to the smartphone discussed above, but it has a more powerful camera. The device can be assessed by its owners, like the previous phone model, as a completely modern and competitive device capable of solving basic user tasks.

Low-end Philips phones: S337 device

Another device from Philips in the lower segment is the Philips S337 smartphone.

He has:

Supports 2 SIM cards;

Spreadtrum SC7731 processor with 4 cores operating at a frequency of 1.3 GHz;

Display with a diagonal of 5 inches and a resolution of 854 by 480 pixels;

Rear camera 5 MP, front camera 0.3 MP;

LED flash;

Support for communication standards GSM, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth;

1 GB RAM;

Flash memory 8 GB;

Battery capacity 2000 mAh.

This device differs from other models in the lower price segment, first of all, by the presence of a more powerful battery, as well as a screen with a larger diagonal.

The device in question can also be rated by users as quite competitive compared to budget models from other brands. The Philips company, as experts may believe, supplies the market with smartphones that traditionally combine performance and an affordable price.

Summary

So, we have studied the main price categories of smartphones from Philips. Overall, the difference between them in terms of features reflects the price ratio. One way or another, but that's it Philips smartphones allow you to solve the main tasks of a modern user: managing calls, using the Internet, running popular games (although they, of course, may require high performance- need to be compared system requirements, determined by the manufacturer, and the characteristics of the phone). Although Philips regularly updates its the lineup, the market carries out the purchase and sale of phones released by the brand several years ago. In terms of their capabilities, they are quite comparable to modern models.

The manufacturer of the devices in question pays great attention to battery life. Many of the devices, even in the middle and lower price ranges, can have excellent battery life.

It’s quite difficult to say unambiguously best smartphone"Philips" from the point of view of a comprehensive assessment of the device in terms of comparing its characteristics and price. The classification of Philips phones does not always reflect their optimal suitability for solving specific user problems, taking into account his preferences regarding the financial costs of purchasing a smartphone. But, one way or another, in the Philips device lines we reviewed, a modern user is quite capable of finding a device that is suitable both in price and performance.
