Download caller voiceover for Android. Pronouncing the name of the caller (incoming call). Caller Name Talker. How it works

From the article you will learn

Remember the times when Nokia added to phones the ability to pronounce the name of the person who is calling you? Only that time has passed, the technology is outdated, and it was not particularly popular. And it’s strange why they decided to resume it only recently in Apple products, adding it to iOS 10. If you still don’t know how to teach your iPhone to pronounce the name of the caller, then in this article you will get all the necessary knowledge!

Enabling the option

It is only available to users who have iOS 10 or higher installed, so devices such as the iPhone 4S, 5C and all others released earlier will no longer be able to please their owners. Here it is or buy new iPhone or be content with what you have.

  1. To activate the function, you need to go to the “Settings” of your phone and select the “Phone” tab there.
  2. Find an item "Announcement of calls" and select the mode in which Siri should operate when speaking the caller's name.

The following points are suggested:

  • Always - regardless of the mode, the system will speak the name of the subscriber of the incoming call.
  • Headphones and car— if the phone is connected to the car system or to headphones, the caller’s name will be spoken by Siri.
  • Headphones only - caller's name is spoken voice assistant Siri only if you have a connected headset, both wired and wireless.
  • Never—the option is completely disabled.

How it works?

Let's say you receive a call from a subscriber who is listed in the phone book as “Mikhail”. When you receive a call, Siri automatically reads the name and speaks it at approximately the same volume as the set ringer.

If you are not satisfied with the default voice used by Siri, then go to the “Settings” of the device and select Siri. Now in the window that opens, click on the “Siri Voice” tab and select male or female, after listening to it.

Disabling the option

For some users, after updating to iOS 10 and higher, this function was activated automatically, and whenever calls are received, the system pronounces the names of the subscribers who call the phone. If you are one of them, and now you don’t need the option to work, then:

  1. Go to the “Settings” of your smartphone and select “Phone”.
  2. Next, go to the tab "Announcement of calls" and check the box next to “Never”. Now there will be no pronunciation when calls come in.

How can I find out who is calling me without taking out my phone?

Let’s say you are the owner of an iPhone, but you are annoyed by this functionality of the system, or perhaps you simply don’t like Siri’s voice, since she is still far from voicing Russian words and phrases? Or, for example, you just old model smartphone that does not support iOS version 10 and above? In this case, we suggest using another interesting solution that was introduced a long time ago.

You can create a unique vibration that will alert you to a specific call. For example, set a unique vibration alert for a call from your wife. Whenever she calls, the iPhone will vibrate according to a predetermined algorithm, and you can quickly determine who it is without taking the phone out of your pocket.

You can enable this option on versions earlier than iOS 10.

  1. You need to go to phone book, select the subscriber and click the “Change” button.
  2. Next, at the bottom, click on the “Ringtone” section and select “Vibration”.
  3. Now click on the tab "Create Vibration".
  4. Use your finger to tap the area that the system will show. If you hold your finger on the screen, it will be a continuous vibration, and if you just poke your finger, it will be small jolts. As a result, you can do something in the SOS style, only longer and more unique.

For iPhone users who have installed firmware with Jailbrake on their device, you can also install various tweaks that allow you to pronounce the subscriber's name. But, as practice shows, they do not always work well, and there is no point in jailbreaking just for this.

  • Today I want to tell you how to make your Android phone pronounce the name of the caller using one of the installed speech synthesizers using the Caller Name Talker program.

This convenient and easy-to-use program will make it much easier for you to work with your smartphone, since many people face this problem. regular funds in Android, as a rule, there is no way to do this, unlike the old Symbian, where this functionality was available, and in principle, even without it it was much easier to see the name of the caller.

First, let's install the application by going to the Play Market
If you come with personal computer, then you will have to log in to Google Play, If from your phone, you just need to open the link in Play app Market.
After you install it, open it from the list of applications or Play Market by clicking the corresponding button, otherwise the program will not work.
    Click the "Basic Settings" button.

    • Notify about a call in silent mode" - If you check this box, the caller's name will be spoken even in silent mode. By default, this checkbox is cleared and in silent mode the program will not pronounce the caller's name.
    • “Notify only known ones” - If you check this box, Caller Name Talker will not pronounce numbers that are not in your contact list, otherwise the program will tell you the caller’s number.
    • “Select name type” - this setting can be left as it is to begin with
    • “Reduce ringer volume” - I recommend checking this box, because while the program pronounces the name or number of the caller, the ringtone will be muted.
    • “Notify only when a headset is connected” - If you check this box, the name or number of the calling person will be pronounced only when a headset or headphones are connected to the phone, and will be spoken exclusively through the speakers of the headphones or headset, and not through the phone speaker.

Now that the settings you need have been made, you can go back to the main screen of the program and click the button: “Call notification settings”.
The following settings are present here:

    • “Call notifications ON” - This checkbox determines whether call notifications will be turned on. It’s worth clarifying right away so that you don’t get confused. The fact is that Caller Name Talker can notify not only about calls, but also about SMS and even a little more, but more on that below.
    • “Initial delay time” - Here you can set the time after which the number or name will be read for the first time caller.
    • “Notification repeat interval” - Here you set the interval between the first and subsequent notifications.
    • “Shake to stop notifications” - this setting will allow you to shake your phone to stop notifications if, for example, you don’t want others to hear it.
    • “The phrase read before the contact name” - This setting will allow you to set a phrase to read before a contact's name or phone number. The next settings item is exactly the opposite - it allows you to set a phrase that will be read after the contact name or phone number.
    • “Reset settings” - Allows you to reset settings if something suddenly doesn’t work.

Now let’s go back to the main screen of the application and press the “SMS notification settings” button.
Almost all the settings here are similar, as in the call notification settings, the only differences are in two new checkboxes:

    • “Read SMS Contents” - Allows Caller Name Talker to read the text of the received message.
    • “Enable interactive SMS reading mode” - Caller Name Talker will ask you if you need to read the contents of the message, and if you say yes, it will read it. It is worth noting that this checkbox can only be checked if the previous one is checked.

Let's return to the main screen. Now by clicking the “Other notifications” button you can set the following settings:

    • “Enable low battery notifications” - allows the program to notify you by voice when the battery is low.
    • “Enable other application notifications” - allows you to enable notifications in some other applications, however, it is worth taking into account that the battery will be consumed significantly more than when using notifications for calls and SMS.

Let’s now return to the main screen of the application and click “Voice Settings”.
Here you can select the language and speed of notifications, as well as enter any text to check and click to the right of text field check button, then the text that you enter into this field will be spoken aloud.
This completes the setup. There are two more points left on the main screen of the application, this is the “Doesn’t work” button, by clicking which you can start self-diagnosis, or read the author’s E-mail and write him a letter, and also at the very bottom by clicking on the inscription: “Rate the application” you will be taken to the Play Market, where you can evaluate this application.
That's all the basics regarding settings.
The only thing I would like to note is that if you have the option to mute the music while reading a contact's name, you should not pick up the phone while reading the number or name of the caller, as the ringing level will remain low and you will have to increase it manually.
