How to log out of Google and then log in

You only need to register with Google once, and then you can log out of Google and log in again. You need to log out of your Google account, for example, in order to log into another Google account.   3. Create a password. The password must have at least eight characters. For security reasons, it is not recommended to use passwords from other sites.
  4. Confirm the password. To make sure you entered the password correctly, enter the password again. If the system displays that the passwords do not match, check whether the keyboard layout is set correctly. There must be Latin letters, not Russian.
  5. Date of Birth. Select from the drop-down list.
  6. Floor. Selected from the list.
  7. Mobile phone number - necessary for more reliable account protection. If important documents are stored in your mailbox, you can allow login to your account only after receiving an SMS with a password on your mobile phone.   • First and last name. Your first and last name will be visible across all Google services, so consider whether it will be your real name or an alias.
  • Username. This is where an “ambush” may await you: millions of users around the world have sorted out all the popular names and words, so you’ll have to use your imagination. The username can use Latin letters, numbers and periods, the number of characters from 6 to 30. If the name is taken, the system will offer you free names to suit your own strange taste:

Here you can change the password for logging into your gmail email and your account in general. In fact, it is recommended to change your password periodically for security purposes. True, few people do this. But perhaps you will heed this advice...

In addition, there is such a “trick” as two-step authentication. What it is? In order to log into your account, you will need to enter passwords twice: your permanent password and a confirmation code that will be sent via SMS to the phone number specified during connection.

Why are such complications necessary? For example, if your mail (or other Google service) contains important, confidential, or any other information not intended for prying eyes, it makes sense to do everything possible to protect it. Is not it?

By enabling two-step identification, you will be able to specify devices from which the second step—entering a verification code—is not required when logging in. This could be yours home laptop, the loss or theft of which is practically impossible, or a working computer - in a word, a reliable device:

There is one more point. If you use any applications that access Google services (for example, any email client), then after enabling two-step verification, these applications will no longer be able to log into your account. To solve this problem, Google has provided the ability to configure application passwords.

But still, let's see what settings you can make in the web interface to ensure a more comfortable experience.

First of all, I want incoming mail to be automatically classified and specified actions to be performed with it - some letters should be placed in certain folders, others should be forwarded to other addresses, and others should be deleted. Let's dig into this direction and see how Gmail manages inboxes.

The settings button – “Gear” – is located in the upper right corner. Click it and go to the “Settings” menu item:

Let's see what methods of grouping and filtering incoming messages can be subjected to.

Sorting by category

The simplest way to sort incoming mail is by category. You probably noticed that the Inbox is divided into sections:

Gmail itself determines which email corresponds to which category and places it in the appropriate tab. If a letter does not correspond to any of the categories, it remains in the “Unsorted” section. Let's check all the boxes and see what changes:

Go to Gear – Settings – General – Stars:

These are marks that can be used to mark letters. If you have selected a set of four stars, by sequentially clicking on the star icon to the left of the letter header, you can choose how to mark it:

This is another tool for dividing emails into categories.

Shortcuts

There is a “Labels” tool for sorting letters. Shortcuts are a concept close to folders. To manage shortcuts, go to Gear – Settings – Shortcuts:

I noted the correspondence between the active shortcuts and their display on the left. You see, you can add or remove elements quite easily. You can also create shortcuts yourself; moreover, you can create a whole hierarchy of shortcuts:

I created a shortcut for "Work", then a shortcut for "Another Job", placing it under "Work". Please note that the sub-shortcut does not have a “Show in list” attribute; its visibility can be controlled from the column on the left by clicking on the icon next to the “Work” shortcut.

Created shortcuts can be deleted - this will not lead to the deletion of messages to which it is assigned.

By clicking on the arrow that appears when you hover the mouse over the created shortcut, you can get to the context menu:

Here you can choose the color of the label, as well as configure other parameters.

We can manually assign a label to an email and it will be displayed in the left menu when we click on the corresponding label. Let's put it into practice:

Let's take one of the letters automatically sent to us from Google.

We see that it is now marked with the “Inbox” label. IN top menu There is a “Labels” item with which we can manage the labels of a given letter.

Let's assign it "One more job":

I assigned the color blue to “Another Job”; Now we can see this letter both in the Inbox and in Another work:

This way we can process incoming messages and distribute them throughout different folders: in our example, we put letters from the main job in “Work”, letters from an additional job in “Another job”, you can create labels “Letters from Mom”, “Letters from Friends” and so on. But you must admit, it’s not very convenient to manually “pierce” each incoming letter. Is it possible to automate this work? Of course: filters are used for further work with correspondence.

Filters

What it is? Filters are actions that postal system performs with letters that meet certain specified criteria. We get into filter management through our favorite gear: Settings – Filters and blocked addresses.

Well, let's try to create some kind of mail processing rule?

Click “Create a new filter”:

You can see by what criteria mail is sorted. You can fill in one field, or several - then there will be a complex condition. I'm in in this example I want to make a filter that sends incoming letters that contain the words “Work urgently” to the “Work” folder.

Let's mark two checkboxes: skip inbox - this means that a letter that meets the specified conditions will not be displayed in the Inbox folder, and apply a shortcut - indicate which one. As a result of the filter being triggered, letters in which I am asked to “work urgently” should end up in the “Work” folder, bypassing the “Inbox”.

Everything worked out. The letter is not in the Inbox; it immediately moved to Work. We have mastered another convenient Gmail tool.

Gmail email definitely aims to be everything for its user: in the web interface you can import contacts and all the accumulated mail from other email addresses, you can “bind” these addresses to the web interface and use them.

Let's see how quickly and conveniently all this is implemented in practice. Our usual Gear – Settings – Accounts and import:

  • Change account settings - everything here seems to be clear.
  • Import mail and contacts. Well, let's try:

And we wait. Yes, it’s a slow process, but everything happens automatically. By the way, this task only took me a few minutes. Let's see what my mail looks like now:

  • Send mail as: at this point we select from which mailbox our letters will be sent by default. By the way, the imported box has already been added:

You can add more boxes by confirming with a password that they are yours.

  • Receive mail from other accounts. How is this function different from what we just did? Using import, Gmail collects existing messages and contacts, and also forwards new ones within a month - so that you have time to send notifications to your recipients about the transition to a new email, i.e. You seem to have decided to abandon your previous mailboxes and completely move to Gmail. Receiving mail from other accounts means that you do not abandon them, you just now work exclusively in the Gmail web interface.

How to enable receiving mail from other accounts? There are two ways:

  1. receive old mail and activate new mail;
  2. configure only receiving new mail.

To receive all messages, you need to do the following:

If you want to set up receiving messages from a third-party email service, make sure that access via the POP3 protocol is enabled, but if from another Google account, go to that account in the menu Gear - Settings - Forwarding and POP/IMAP and activate the "Enable" option POP for all emails":

After this, return to your current account and in the “Accounts and Import” tab, add the required mail account.

The second way is to receive only new emails. To do this, you need to set up forwarding: in a third-party mail service - depends on the settings of the corresponding service, in another Google account through Gear - Settings - Forwarding and POP/IMAP, click “Add forwarding address” and indicate your new address.

So, let's return to the Accounts and Import section. We've come to the point

  • Do you use Gmail for work?

Google offers to connect business applications that help in business, of course, for additional fee. This is corporate mail, additional GB in cloud storage, opportunity public access and so on. I won’t dwell on these applications, I’ll just mention that there are solutions for business.

Next option:

  • Provide access to your account

You can let another Gmail user read, send, and delete mail on your behalf. If a representative is sending a letter on your behalf, the sender's address will indicate that the letter was sent by a representative. This function can be convenient in some cases - for example, when a secretary handles the manager’s mail, or when an employee goes on vacation.

Well, the last thing we see on the Accounts and Import tab:

  • Increase mailbox capacity

By default, when registering an account, a new Google user is given a mailbox size of 15 GB. It is worth considering that in fact this disk space is used not only for storing mail, but also for files that you place in Google Drive And Google Photos. It is clear that 15 GB may not be enough, in which case you can expand this space for an additional fee:

  • 100 GB – 139 rub./month.
  • 1 TB – 699 RUR/month.
  • 10 TB – 6990 RUR/month.
  • 30 TB – RUR 20,990/month.

Different features of Gmail

Let's look at some mail features that we didn't discuss in previous sections.

In the lower right corner of the screen in the web interface we can see some icons:

This is Google's Hangouts messenger program, which is quite widely used on smartphones, but also has an interface for computers. What this messenger allows:

  • Create group chats;
  • Arrange video conferences;
  • Make phone calls;
  • Send SMS;
  • Share media content.

If you are not going to use all these functions (something tells me that most likely you are not going to) - you can turn off the display of Hangouts: Gear - Settings - Chat - Turn off chat.

A convenient innovation from Gmail: messages with the same subject are grouped into threads, where the new message is displayed above the previous ones. Isn't that a good idea? You can look at the entire correspondence at once, without setting any additional grouping conditions. By default, grouping emails into threads is enabled; but if this function does not suit you for some reason, you can disable it in Settings: General – Disable.

In the general tab, you can also set the page size - how many chains to display on one page and how many contacts. We have already seen the contacts; in principle, working with them does not present any difficulty.

Since we're in the General settings section, let's see what else interesting you can see in it that we haven't covered before.

  • Images

By default, pictures received in messages are shown immediately; if you have low speed Internet connection, you can enable the “Ask if I want to show an image” feature.

  • Default text style

You can customize the font you use to write letters.

This feature can be handy if you need to track incoming messages. Works for Google browsers Chrome, Firefox and Safari.

  • Shortcuts

If you don’t want to point the mouse on the screen, but prefer to work with the keyboard, you can enable shortcut keys and use them to manage your mail: navigate through sections, sort and delete messages, and so on.

  • Button labels

This refers to the buttons located in the top menu when opening a letter:

  • Signature

It may be necessary to automatically add your signature to letters, this is especially true for business correspondence. Of course, Gmail gives this opportunity to its users:

Another one useful feature for business people - an answering machine. If you are absent from your workplace - you went on vacation, on a business trip, or simply went into the astral plane - turn on an answering machine during your absence, which will respond to incoming messages with a template letter. If a person does not believe that you are not there and writes again and again, the answer will only be once every four days. Emails identified as spam and bulk mail will not receive an auto-reply. When you return, don't forget to turn off your answering machine.

We went over the most interesting options from the General settings section. What else is left out of our settings? Sections Laboratory, Offline and Themes.

Gmail is testing a variety of features that have not yet been implemented in the mail experience in the “Lab” section of the settings. The section is constantly updated: something is put into operation, something is removed, new developments are added, so I will not describe the functions that are available in the Laboratory at the time of writing the review. You can go to this section and see what is there, read the descriptions and, if you wish, add the function you like to your mail. For example, let's enable a feature that adds a viewport to the right and bottom of messages:

Offline

Here it is suggested to install gmail app Offline, which does not require an Internet connection to operate. The program has the familiar Gmail interface. All messages on which any actions have been performed in this application will be synchronized with your account when connected to the Internet.

A little about security

There is one subtle, but potentially useful, feature in the settings. At the bottom of the settings page, regardless of which section is open, there is a link for Additional information:

What it is? This latest actions in your account: when, from what IP address, from what device or browser any movements were made. If you see in the Access Type column a browser that you do not have, or a POP3 server that you do not use mail client, then an unpleasant conclusion is quite likely: you have been hacked... To prevent this from happening, do not neglect the security measures that we discussed above.

How to delete gmail

It may happen that you no longer need a postal Gmail account, and you need to remove it. How to do it? You can go two ways:

  1. Delete only mail, leaving account
  2. Delete account

Go to your account settings:

In your account settings, select Disable services and delete your account:

In the window that opens, select “Delete services”, the following window will open:

If you are sure that you do not need mail with all its contents, click on the trash can icon; if you want to save something, download the data. Still, I advise you to download the data before deleting Gmail: what if there is something valuable left in the mail that you will need immediately after deletion?

We are deleting only mail, so we mark the “All mail” icon:

The saved data in the form of an archive can either be received by mail or uploaded to cloud storage - you can specify which one.

The archive can take a long time to create: several hours or days. If you chose the method of receiving By link, wait until the archive is formed, because the link to it will be sent to the very address that you are planning to delete. You will need to go to gmail and make sure you receive the following letter:

Click the “Download” button and you will receive the archive on your computer.

Now let's return to deleting mail. Do you remember: An icon with your initial or photo – My account – Account settings – Service settings and deleting an account – Delete services. Add Gmail to your cart.

You need to enter your email address and follow the link that will be in the letter sent to this address. Please note: you cannot enter the address that you specified as a backup when registering your account. So we enter an address that is in no way connected with Google and we get a “chain letter”:

We follow the link, log into your account, read the “latest Chinese warning”, confirm - and that’s it, we don’t have Google mail. At the same time, the account remained safe and sound, while the address that we indicated above is now linked to the account.

However, you can restore the mailbox - and if you deleted it recently, the letters may also be saved. To do this, go to the Mail service:

You will be prompted to add the deleted mail to your account:

Check the data and click “Submit”:

You receive a confirmation code, enter it into the form - and the mail is at your disposal again! You can now go to gmail and check if everything is saved.

Account deleting

The second method is to delete the entire account. Keep in mind that when you delete your account, you lose access not only to your mail, but also to all data associated with it: documents in cloud storage, photos, and so on. Therefore, approach this action responsibly; restoring your Gmail and your entire account if you change your mind is quite labor-intensive and sometimes impossible.

Go to the icon with your initial or photo – My account – Account settings – Service settings and deleting an account, and there you select “Delete account and data”:

Read it, then Google will write to you. It's really important information, which is worth paying attention to:

Download the data - we talked about this above. If you have weighed everything and are confident in your decision, well, check the boxes and click the Delete account button.

If you managed to delete your account by accident, then there is a chance to get everything back:

Click “Try to restore it.” We will be asked to enter a password, if everything is fine with the password, the account will be restored. But what if you don't remember it? Click “Another Question” and a one-time code will be sent to your backup address. If for some reason this address is not available, click on “Another question” again, and you will be asked about the month and year the account was created. If you still can’t answer this question, Google will suggest the following:

If this option does not suit you and you click on “Another question”:

Like this. And remember that you can restore your account no later than within two to three weeks after deleting it, so I urge you to reconsider everything carefully.

Conclusion

Email gmail.com is an excellent tool for working with messages both as a personal mailbox and corporate mail. A convenient web interface allows users to solve basically any problem; it can be customized to suit themselves and perform the necessary operations with mail.
