What does it mean on a xiaomi phone unlocked. Xiaomi smartphones – bootloader unlocking. Unlocking errors and their solutions

It happens that your Xiaomi smartphone does not work correctly and you need to flash it, as well as add some patches or custom Recovery. If you just purchased a smartphone, most likely it will have a locked bootloader. A loader or bootloader is a special program responsible for loading and launching operating system Android. But this program has another task - preventing changes in the firmware itself or the system kernel.

In different models of devices, the bootloader is designed differently, and the process of unlocking it can also occur different ways. Installed on Xiaomi smartphones branded shell MIUI, which is almost a different subsystem installed on top of the stock Android OS. And it doesn’t matter what kind of smartphone you have: Xiaomi Mi5, Mi 5X or Mi Max - they all have one system installed. Unlocking the Xiaomi bootloader occurs the same way on all company devices.

Why does Xiaomi block the bootloader in its devices?

The answer to this question is quite simple. The bootloader in this context acts as a kind of block at the hands of the user who wants to change something in the firmware or install additional software elements into the operating kernel Android systems. Also, a locked bootloader is the key to system longevity. Therefore, the manufacturer blocks bootloaders on smartphones so that an inexperienced user does not perform “harmful” actions on his phone. Because of this, more and more people want to know how to unlock the Xiaomi bootloader quickly and for free, because the Android operating system can crash at any moment, so it’s better to play it safe. The next point why the manufacturer blocks the bootloader is a requirement Google, which is the founder of the Android operating system and is developing it.

Advantages of unlocking the bootloader

Despite the fact that the bootloader is the security of the firmware and kernel of the system, sometimes it is simply necessary to unlock it. Let's look at several advantages of unlocking the bootloader, and what exactly it gives to the average user:

  • after unlocking, you can quickly flash your smartphone or install a recovery environment to enter recovery mode, in which you can return the gadget to a working state;
  • this is useful for testing various firmware for developers who can make their ports to other devices;
  • Unlocking insures your device in case of sudden reboots, stuck on turning on the smartphone, etc. After all, if something suddenly happens to the firmware, you can connect your phone and flash it even without the MiFlash program, because everything happens in Fastboot mode.

It is these advantages that can convince the user to unlock the bootloader of the MIUI shell. Yes, there is a risk of affecting normal Android work there is, but if you are looking for how to unlock a bootloader, you will not do anything illegal with your gadget.

Checking bootloader lock status

You can see whether the MIUI bootloader is unlocked or not in two ways: through the smartphone menu or Fastboot mode. The first method is that you go to the developer menu and there click on the “Bootloader Status” button. To activate the API mode, go to the “Settings” menu, then to the “About phone” menu and click on the “MIUI Version” item about seven times. After that, in the “Advanced Settings” the “For Developers” section will appear, in which there is a menu “Mi Unlock Status” or “Bootloader Status” and click on it. In the window that opens, you will see the message: “Bootloader locked” and will offer to link an account or “Bootloader unlocked.”

The second method is more complicated and not practical. You need to put your smartphone into Fastboot mode. To do this, turn off the device and simultaneously press the volume “-” button and the power key. You need to wait for the picture with a hare poking around in Android's stomach. Download a special tool to your PC and unpack it into any folder with an English name, which is located in the root of your system drive.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B8on05W8-j-YUFJwaXNWalNSTXM

Go to this folder, hold down the “Shift” button and right-click on an empty space. In the context menu, you must select “Open command window” and wait for the command line to open. In it we type one by one (using the “Enter” button) the commands: fastboot devices and fastboot oem device-info. We are looking for the line Device unlocked and if there is a value next to it “True”, then the bootloader is unlocked, and if “False” then vice versa. You can exit Fastboot mode by holding the power button for about 15 seconds.

Official unlock methods

On this moment, you can only unlock the bootloader on a Xiaomi smartphone in an official way using a utility from the manufacturer called MiFlash Unlock. You can download it on the official website. First you need to submit an application (read on how to do this). Next, in developer mode, link the device to your created Xiaomi account. After this, we transfer the long-suffering gadget to “Fastboot” mode. We launch the official utility as an administrator, enter the username and password, click enter, accept the license agreement and wait for the smartphone to be searched in Fastboot mode. If your application is approved and the smartphone is in the “fast boot” state, click on the “Unblock” or “Unlock” button and wait. Please note that now, after the application is approved, you need to wait about 72 hours, after which you can unlock the device. This is a mandatory rule from Xiaomi, which has been applied since MiFlash Unlock 2.2.5. In new devices such as Xiaomi Mi 5X, Redmi 5A and Redmi Note 5A and others, the wait for unlocking costs up to 360 hours. If everything is fine, the smartphone will reboot with the bootloader unlocked.

Applying for unlocking

You should apply to unlock the bootloader on the official Xiaomi website where you downloaded the utility. You need to log in under your account and fill in your name in Chinese or English, depending on which version of the site is opened. You can use Google Translator. Next, enter your real phone number and tell us why you decided to unlock the bootloader (you can write anything, but in English or Chinese). Wait for an SMS message with a confirmation code and that’s it, the application has been submitted. Now you just have to wait for a second SMS with approval or refusal of your application. If you didn’t wait for it, then you can do this: try to unlock your smartphone using the program. If the device initializes, then the application has been approved.

Unofficial unlocking methods

There are no unofficial methods for unlocking Xiaomi phones, but the problem can be solved in other ways. For example, you can flash your smartphone using Xiaomi programs MiFlash, which does the installation new firmware even with a locked bootloader. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the Mi Unlock program is the most reliable and quick way bootloader unlocking. If you are offered to unlock the bootloader by other illegal methods, do not fall for these provocations, because the company has not yet officially recognized the possibility of doing this procedure by means other than its development tools.

Well, now we have dealt with the question of how to unlock the Xiaomi bootloader, but there are still some nuances that need to be taken into account at the end of this article.

Does locking the bootloader affect the operation of a smartphone?

No, locking the bootloader does not affect the day-to-day operation of your phone. It only changes some nuances in the MIUI firmware, as indicated in license agreement to the MiFlash Unlock program. Locking the bootloader is the return of that “block” that was mentioned at the beginning of the article. After this procedure, the user will not be able to install Russified firmware or a custom recovery environment. Access to system files will be closed for you, but there is a greater chance of not losing your data if you take any action on the system, because it simply won’t be there. It is worth noting that if you have found some method of unofficially unlocking the bootloader, then after changing the firmware you can get a so-called boot loop, and the bootloader will be locked back, since this is not the correct approach to the procedure. The system will simply determine exactly how the bootloader was unlocked and will stop starting - that’s when problems will overtake you.

Return Xiaomi bootloader lock

If you want to protect your device from itself, you can put the bootloader lock back. To do this, we follow the steps described in the section of the article about checking the status of the bootloader via command line. After the verification command, you need to write one more command: fastboot oem lock. We wait for the procedure to complete and check the status of the bootloader with the command: fastboot oem device-info.

There is another way, which is to flash the device to the official MIUI firmware. It is suitable for those for whom the method above did not work. Find all the drivers for your smartphone and download the MiFlash program. Run it with administrator rights, select the firmware, check the box at the bottom next to “clear all and lock” and start “flashing” your device. After a long reboot, you will be greeted by a clean system with a locked bootloader.

Many owners of Chinese phones sooner or later wondered how to check whether the Xiaomi bootloader is unlocked. Often, users begin to delve into such details because some devices from this company do not allow them to be reflashed. It is also inconvenient that when buying a phone directly from China, the consumer will not be able to change the operating system to a Russified or other localized system in the future due to closed access to the bootloader.

Of course, a completely logical question immediately arises: “Why doesn’t the manufacturer support the use of its equipment in all corners of the Earth?” Or maybe he is trying to introduce Chinese into wider use? Of course, this is not true. This happens due to the fact that it has become popular to counterfeit phones and official firmware from "Hiomi". The fact is that the software can contain a huge number of viruses that can collect data from the phone. This is why all official devices do not allow you to change the firmware. In this article we will look at how to unlock the Xiaomi bootloader.

Another reason why the bootloader is locked

There is another good reason why the Chinese manufacturer prefers to block access to the bootloader. If suddenly a consumer’s phone is stolen or he loses it, then due to the blocking, the new owner of the device will not be able to reflash it and obtain data, personal information. Moreover, each gadget has its own Mi account. Although it is worth admitting that scammers also often wonder how to unlock the Xiaomi bootloader. And, most likely, they have the necessary skills. In the latest versions of the original software, you can notice new options. One of them has a function that allows you to locate your phone or tablet. The second is responsible for sending absolutely any text to the device’s working screen.

How to determine if the bootloader is locked via PC?

Most often, users encounter this problem when working with their phone. Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro. Unlocking the bootloader will be easy. However, this process will take from a week to a month.

To find out whether the bootloader on any phone is unlocked or not Chinese manufacturer“Hyomi”, you need to go into a mode called fastboot. You must first connect the device to the computer. After this, you need to write the word “run” in the Start menu. Using it we go to the command line. We enter the letters adb and write a special phrase there. As a rule, it is the same for each phone and looks like this: fastboot oem device-info. After this, one of the inscriptions will appear on the screen: true or false. The first option indicates that the bootloader is activated, and the second indicates that it is not unlocked.

If it does not work, then you must immediately say that it will be difficult to obtain Root rights, even if they have already been activated previously. The fact is that if the initial version of the firmware does not have a locked bootloader, it may become so after a software update. In order to do this, you will have to use a special PC Suite program. Moreover, the update process cannot be carried out via Mi Flash. Therefore, in order to use the usual functionality, you will have to return everything to its original position. The article describes ways to unlock Xiaomi bootloader.

Why unlock the bootloader?

Below we will talk about at least 3 reasons why you should unlock the bootloader on Xiaomi smartphones. But the most important reason is in your hands chinese phone with MIUI China ROM.

Custom and localized firmware

The first and main advantage is the ability to install custom(unofficial) and localized(official, but with modifications specifically for your region) MIUI firmware. Some Xiaomi models accept third-party software, but in most cases, a locked Bootloader will not allow this. Now, in turn, let’s look at what custom firmware provides:

  • Richer functionality and advanced options that allow you to completely control the entire operation of your smartphone;
  • Installed root rights. Very often, unofficial firmware already has a “Superuser” mode.
  • Advanced and sensitive GPS navigator. The location is determined several times faster than on the standard version.
  • A highly optimized operating system kernel that either improves phone performance or increases battery life.

Modified Recovery (TWRP)

By unlocking the bootloader, you can easily perform CWM recovery, which is necessary not only to obtain root rights, but also for other important operations on your smartphone. Let's take a closer look:

  • Gives access to install new firmware;
  • Allows you to carry out easily and quickly, saving and leaving absolutely all data intact;
  • Many small new options, changes and improvements to existing functions;
  • Allow installation of batch zip archives;
  • Improved touch interface.

Root rights

First we need to download a special program Mi Flash Unlock(go to your model thread on the w3bsit3-dns.com forum, download from the link in the topic header, if you haven’t found it, write in the comments, we’ll send you the link). To avoid getting a virus on your device, it is best to download the application from the official Xiaomi website. You can choose the version of the utility yourself, but, of course, the most recent update will be of the highest quality and most effective (you can download a localized version of the program on w3bsit3-dns.com, that is, in Russian).

It is advisable to put the folder with the program in the root of drive C, example: C:\MiFlashUnlock.

Step 1: Launch Mi Flash

Now open the Mi Flash program on behalf of administrator, we see White screen with text in Chinese (if the localized version is like mine, then in Russian), where the disclaimer rules are indicated. We agree and click on the appropriate button.

Step 2: Login to Mi account

We are presented with a new window that requires you to log into your Mi account. Enter the password and ID, as they did in other situations. That is, there is nothing new, unusual or complex yet. We carefully check the specified data and keyboard layout, since it is at this stage that many users have problems with the appearance of such a notification: “You entered your password and/or login incorrectly.” Click “Login”.

Step 3: Connect your phone to PC

Then we return to the smartphone itself. Turn it off and transfer it to , simultaneously holding down the power and volume down keys. Using a USB cable.

Step 4: Unlock Process

The final final stage: the application begins to detect the smartphone and perform a lot of small necessary operations without our intervention. We wait a few minutes ( in my case 25 seconds), and if everything was done correctly, we receive a notification about successful unlocking - three green dots. Ready!

Bootloader unlock error: try again in 72 hours

ATTENTION! In 99% of cases, you will not be able to unlock your smartphone, since you need to go through more additional check.

If you receive a message like: " Binding time is too short, Less than 72 hours" or " After 360 hours of trying to unlock the device", please be aware that this is an additional verification of your account! That is, you must wait 3 days before repeating the procedure again. There is no way to bypass the timer, just be patient, I went through it and so will you!

Important! At the time of writing, Xiaomi decided to increase additional verification for such models as: Mi5X, Redmi Note 5A, Redmi 5A Redmi 5/5plus, Mi Max. They received unrealistic 360 hour timer.

After you waited 72/360 hours, repeated the above procedure - did you get 3 green dots? Great! The bootloader is unlocked. Now proceed to installing extended recovery, that is, TWRP, more on this in a separate article, in the category "Firmware".

Unofficial unlock method (does not work)

The official method is the above option, but if for some reason you cannot wait until the application is reviewed and approved, or you need to unlock several devices at once, you should resort to little tricks. The chance of successfully completing this operation is 50 to 50%+ possible failures and incorrect work operating system. Still want to take a risk? Then let's get started.

  1. Go to “Settings”, go to the very bottom and click “About phone”. Now click on the MIUI version section several times. As you already understood, this is necessary in order to enable developer mode. If you already have it active, skip this point.
  2. Now we return again to the root menu of “Settings” - “Advanced”, “For Developers”.
  3. We see the item “Mi Unlock Status”. Opens new inset, where we click “Add an account or device.”
  4. Next, download a utility called “Mi Unlock”, open it and unlock Bootloader with one click. If everything went well, we see in the status that the bootloader is unlocked.

Bugs and problems

Most often, problems arise from the server itself; in most cases, it is not the user's fault. But, nevertheless, you need to know how to deal with them. We offer for your acquaintance an approximate list of violations and methods for eliminating them:

  • The most common complaint is stop removing protection by 50%. It gets exactly halfway and freezes. Unfortunately, these are glitches of the site; nothing can be done here manually. All that remains is to try again periodically. Everything should be successful after about 2-3 times.
  • Is not comingSMSto the specified number before sending the application. The fact is that all security codes are officially sent from China and periodically expire for Russian numbers. You need to either enable a VPN with a Chinese location, or try using a different phone number.
  • Green button is not active. Yes, this is a common problem during the application process. This can be resolved either by simply restarting the browser or by allowing the browser to display pop-up windows. Sometimes disabling your ad blocker helps.
  • Can't log in to yourMi-account. This is what we talked about above, and simply inattention is to blame. Check which keyboard language is enabled, whether you entered the password correctly, and do not confuse your account ID number with your phone number.

    Is a SIM card required?

    No, unlocking can be done without it, it doesn’t matter.

    As you can see, if you try, you can quickly and comfortably unlock the bootloader. The main thing is to follow the instructions and be very careful about the entire process. Good luck!

The article provides instructions for officially unlocking the bootloader using the example of a Xiaomi Redmi 4A phone.

First of all, to see if your device is locked, since the phone may already be unlocked and the steps below are not required. Go to the settings in the developer menu, open the "Bootloader status" item and look.

If the bootloader is locked, you cannot install custom firmware or root the device. Follow the steps below to unlock.

Go to the Bootloader Unlock Request page to apply. Create an account and log in to the site.

The site may ask you to come up with and enter a nickname for the forum.

Next, a form will appear where you need to indicate your name, country code, phone number, reason for unlocking the phone, enter the captcha, agree and accept the terms of the warning. The data must be filled out in English; if you do not have the necessary knowledge, use Google Translate. Do not try to copy reasons that are available on the Internet; copied reasons will most likely not lead to successful unlocking. Show professionalism. As an example, we wrote (in English) that we want to access system files so that (users of Xiaomi Redmi 4A and others are familiar with this problem).

After clicking the "Apply Now" button, an SMS with a code will be sent to your phone, which you must enter on the next page and click the green "Next" button.

In our case, we did not receive an SMS, but on the 5th day we went back to the unlock page under our account and instead of the request form we saw a large “Download Mi Unlock” button to download the unlock utility.

Download, unpack and run the unlocking program. Agree to the warning by clicking the "Agree" button and log in to your account.

In your phone settings, log in to your Mi account. If you registered using email rather than phone, click on “Other login methods.”

In the developer menu, activate the "Factory unlock" item.

Turn off the phone, then turn it on in "fastboot" mode: hold down the volume down key and the power key, the phone will turn on and a hare will appear poking around in the android.

Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable. The program should automatically detect the device; if this does not happen, install the appropriate drivers. Click on the "Unlock" button and in the pop-up warning, confirm the action by clicking the "Unlock Anyway" button.

If all 3 checkboxes light up green, the unlocking has been completed successfully.

Click on the "Reboot phone" button to reboot your device. Visit the developer menu again to ensure your device is unlocked.

Unlocking errors and their solutions

Current account is not bound to this device

Disconnect the USB cable, restart the phone while holding the power button, wait until the system boots up, Android settings Make sure you are logged into your MIUI account (see above) and have granted all permissions. Reboot into fastboot and try to unlock your device again.

Couldn't unlock

Unlocking is blocked for 3 days (72 hours). Check if the Factory Unlock option is enabled (see above) and try again after 3 days.

If all else fails, try unlocking again.

We recommend using only latest version the "Mi Unlock" program, downloaded from the official website, since this software is updated very quickly and those versions that are available on the forums are very likely to not work.
