The entire procedure is described in

The union of the iTunes program and iOS devices, in general, can be considered stable, but sometimes updating, restoring, synchronizing content and other operations that involve interaction between the Apple and the specified utility can be interrupted by an error with one or another number. In this article we will tell you what to do if iTunes gives error 1.

The support section on the official Apple website contains information according to which error 1 indicates some kind of hardware malfunction. Moreover, we are not necessarily talking about a malfunction of the iPhone or other Apple device, when interacting with which the program generated an error. It is likely that the computer or modem or cable or USB port is to blame... And here it is important to correctly diagnose.

However, the support section also states that if an error occurs with any number, first of all you need to take a number of standard measures to eliminate it - these standard measures do not depend on the error number. Well, what if universal instructions will not help, you should go to special guides, which are different for most errors.

This is the way we will go - first we will complete standard instructions, and then special measures - in the case of error number 1, special measures mean hardware diagnostics.

Classic error resolution scheme

It is worth noting that if error 1 appeared immediately when iPhone connection to the computer and when starting iTunes, then most likely the issue is a hardware malfunction and standard error resolution measures are unlikely to help.

In the same case, when the error did not appear immediately, but made itself felt during an update or synchronization - that is, the process was able to start, but could not be completed - then there is a very high chance that the situation will be corrected by standard measures.

However, our advice is that whenever an error appears, the standard instructions still need to be followed.

The first saving measure is a reboot. Yes, the advice is brilliant, but banality does not negate its effectiveness. A reboot is required for both the program itself and the iOS device. To restart iTunes, simply close and open the program again. To reset the gadget, disconnect it from the PC, hold down the Home (on iPhone 7 - volume down button) and Power keys at the same time and hold until the “Apple” appears on the screen.

iTunes Update

If the reset doesn’t help, we’ll proceed to more serious measures. The first such measure is updating iTunes to the latest version. To do this, click “Help” in the program menu, then “Check for updates”; if you find current updates, follow the instructions to download and install them.

Update other programs

At first glance, it seems strange, but third-party programs can interfere with the interaction between iTunes and the iOS device if they are not updated. An outdated version of any program can crash and slow down your computer, as well as interfere with the performance of other utilities.

Therefore, if the iTunes update did not correct the situation, try installing all the latest updates for your PC. If you have a Mac, go to the App Store and download updates from the section of the same name. If you have a Windows PC, go to “Start”, then “Center” Windows updates", enable update detection, and then download the ones found.

Disabling security programs

Another example of software conflict is overzealous security programs. When iTunes performs certain operations, it contacts Apple servers, that is, it essentially goes online without the user’s knowledge - an antivirus and/or firewall may consider such activity suspicious and blacklist iTunes, and error 1 or another will appear. To avoid such problems, it is better to disable security programs during the interaction between iTunes and the iOS device. Are you afraid to leave your computer unprotected even for a while? Then go to the security program settings and add iTunes to the list of trusted programs, which, as they say, can do anything.

Checking the maximum version of the operating system

If all the above measures do not lead to positive results, make sure that you do not try to using iTunes install firmware on an iOS device for which it is already outdated. For example, if you want to install iOS 10 on an iPhone 4S, the update will certainly be interrupted by an error, because the maximum supported version of 4S is iOS 9.3.5. How to find out maximum version iOS that can be installed on your Apple model? It's simple - just ask Google.

Reinstalling iTunes

And finally, another important step is to reinstall iTunes. Sometimes a regular update is not enough to fix program errors, in which case you need to try reinstallation. To do this, remove the utility from your PC completely using the Add/Remove Programs tool (“Start” / “Control Panel” / “Programs and Features”), or through a special uninstaller program, for example, Revo UnInstaller. Before deleting, make sure that iTunes is not running - the program must be closed.

When the removal is complete, restart your computer, download the current version of iTunes from here and install it on your PC, following the installer's prompts.

Diagnosis of hardware faults

So, if all the standard measures did not help, then most likely it is a hardware problem. However, before starting diagnostics, contact the service Apple support. If its specialists are powerless, you will have to independently determine what is broken.

As we mentioned above, the culprit may be the computer itself, the connecting cable, the USB port, the modem, and the iOS device itself, of course.

The easiest way is to exclude the “suspect” in the form of a USB port - connect another device through it. If it works normally without errors, then the problem is not with the connector.

Next we exclude the cable. In order to understand that this element has nothing to do with it, you will need to connect the device via a different cable. Ask your friends - iOS devices are very popular, someone will probably have one. Just keep in mind that the cable must be either original or certified, otherwise the diagnostics cannot be called competent.

Does the error also appear with another cable? Then the next suspect is the modem. iTunes uses the network when interacting with an iOS device, so it is necessary to check it. To check the modem, as you probably already guessed, you will need to connect your computer either to the network via another modem or even via Wi-Fi.

The network is different, but the error is still there? All that remains is to diagnose the computer itself. Here everything is according to the standard scheme, in order to certainly eliminate the problem with your PC, connect the iOS device to some other computer.

Does the error still persist when you connect the device to another PC? Well, in this situation, we can say with a 99% probability that the problem is in the hardware problems of the “apple” itself. In this case, you have one way - to the service, where your iOS device will be diagnosed and a verdict will be given.

Let's summarize

Error 1 can be either software or hardware in nature. But, one way or another, you first need to try to eliminate software conflicts, and only then resort to hardware diagnostics. It is worth noting that the iOS device is not always to blame for the problem. During diagnostics, you will be able to identify the culprit of the problem and contact a specialized service center.

They do not complain about the quality of products from a well-known giant company, while performing all sorts of procedures in iTunes, users encounter errors that sometimes do not promise anything good devices. Many of the failures occur for software reasons and can be fixed quite simply, while others indicate hardware faults and require a more serious approach to treatment (often not without financial investment). The code assigned to each error helps you get closer to the solution by revealing possible reasons problems, but still unable to determine the “root of evil” with 100% certainty.

Fix Error 1 in iTunes.

Unknown error 1 and -1 in iTunes, however, like many failures with other codes, appear when working with the program due to provoking factors of a different nature. Most often, a notification indicating this problem occurs during the process of updating or restoring the firmware of an iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s or other Apple devices. In the best case, error 1 in iTunes has a software solution and is caused by a software conflict, damaged firmware files, incorrectly created assembly, etc., and in the worst case, by hardware problems, such as malfunctions of the modem chip, flash memory, and other unpleasant moments. The chances that a failure with code 1 (-1) is caused by the failure of device elements are much higher if the iPhone has previously been subjected to falls, shocks or other mechanical damage, water has entered it, etc.

Let's consider software methods for fixing the problem, since in some cases they are very effective, and before taking the iPhone to the service, it is advisable to try to cope with the problem yourself using simple solutions. The key to successful iPhone synchronization with iTunes is a stable Internet connection, so you should make sure that all network settings are correct and you are using the computer as an administrator. It is also important to make sure that the physical connection between the devices is complete and the USB cord does not come loose. Although the percentage of the probability of a system failure is negligible, you can still be among those lucky ones who managed to get rid of 1 error by simply rebooting the devices. The computer reboots in standard mode, and the iOS device reboots in forced mode.

Method 1: Replacing the cable, using a different USB port

It is possible that error 1 was caused by damage to the cable or the use of a non-original one. If any defects are found during inspection, even minor ones, the USB cable should be replaced. The same applies to cables of Chinese origin. It is also recommended to try connecting the device to a different port. You need to make the connection directly, without using those built into the keyboard, hubs, etc. It is better if it is a connector from the side motherboard(for PC). In addition, you can try to flash it on another computer.

Method 2. Disabling the antivirus

Method 1 of disabling security software helped many people fix error number 1. If the failure occurs as a result of a conflict between defender programs and iTunes, which often happens, then you need to disable the antivirus, firewall or firewall while performing the update or firmware recovery procedure. If error 1 does not happen again, add iTunes to the list of exceptions in the settings of antivirus programs.

Method 3. Using different firmware

Failure with code 1 when working with iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s and other Apple devices often occurs due to incorrect assembly of custom firmware, the presence of damaged files, or a conflict between iOS and iTunes versions. The loaded OS may also simply not be suitable for your device. If one of the listed options is responsible for error 1 (-1), then you can re-download the firmware, rebuild it, or use another suitable version.

Method 4: Update and reinstall iTunes

For the program to work correctly, it must be updated to the latest available version. It is possible that the appearance of error 1 in iTunes is caused by an imbalance between the program and the firmware. It is recommended to check for updates and, if necessary, refresh iTunes. If the method does not work, reinstalling the application can save the situation, which means complete removal iTunes and all its accompanying components. After uninstallation, you must restart your computer and install the latest version of the program.

Method 5: Run iTunes in Compatibility Mode

Often the problem is resolved by running the program in compatibility mode for the selected operating system. To do this, perform the following steps:

  • right-click on the iTunes shortcut to bring up the menu;
  • At the bottom of the list, click “Properties”;
  • in the window that opens, in the “Compatibility” tab, check the box next to “Run the program in compatibility mode” and select the OS version below;
  • save the changes.

In the same way, by calling the menu, you can run the program as an administrator.

Method 6: Install available Windows updates

If the system has not been updated for a long time, errors due to software conflicts are also likely, so you need to search available updates for the current OS version and their installation. You can use the option from Windows Update.

Method 7. Restore to factory firmware using Recovery Mode

In case of error 1 in iTunes, Recovery Mode can help, which, like DFU Mode, is intended for Apple devices in severe cases when the device does not respond to standard actions. Before returning the default settings, it is advisable to have a backup copy, as user data will be lost. Enter this mode can be done as follows:

  • turn off the device;
  • press and hold the “Home” button;
  • Without releasing the button, connect the iPhone to the computer using the original cable;
  • evidence that the smartphone has entered Recovery Mode will be an image of the iTunes icon and the USB cord;
  • We launch the program, where you can see that the emergency recovery mode is running.

If you fail to revive your iPhone at home, a trip to a service center is inevitable. The most common cause of error 1 (-1) is the failure of the modem, but sometimes other elements of the device are also to blame. It may be necessary to solder or replace parts, which is best done in a service environment by the hands of professionals.

Malfunctions of the modem are also indicated by disturbances in the operation of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but in order to completely determine the cause of error 1, diagnostics are necessary. You can also try to flash your smartphone by removing the battery or just the board; in some cases this solves the problem.

Due to incorrect installation application functionality and iPhone settings 5S can be seriously compromised. Often, if the phone is frozen, the only solution to restore the functionality of the Apple device is to carry out the standard recovery procedure. We will describe how to completely return your Apple device to its previous functionality.

Ways to restore device functionality

Various types of problems can occasionally arise on the iPhone - glitches appear, the phone does not respond to button presses, or the wait is too long. Recovery methods in these cases may vary, however, if the problem is serious, failures often occur when using “softer” methods of resetting parameters 47, 14, 4014,4013, 4005, 3194, etc.

Normal reboot (Soft Reset)

When a gadget is frozen, sometimes you can get it out of this state by rebooting:

  1. Press and hold the Power and Home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds;
  2. When the Apple logo appears, release the keys.

It is possible that the glitches in the iPhone 5S will disappear after this.

Reset via settings menu

iPhone 5S recovery is activated also through standard means gadget:

Here, out of the six proposed points, only two may interest us:

  • “reset settings”, which returns the phone to its original state while preserving all user data;
  • “reset settings and content” - all existing data is destroyed, only factory settings are returned.

The wait for such a reset should last less than a minute, but if the device is frozen and the described recovery methods do not suit you, you will have to proceed through iTunes.

We use standard Recovery Mode

Make sure you are ready to reset in Recovery mode:

  • iTunes updated,
  • USB cable connected to the computer.

If all the preparations have been completed, you can restore your iPhone 5S.

Reset Sequence

The sequence of actions when rebooting an iPhone 5S in Recovery mode is as follows:

The process will go to automatic mode. In a maximum of 3 minutes you will receive corrected settings and saved user information.

Update in DFU mode bypassing iOS phone

Unlike the one discussed above, updating in this mode will destroy the user’s information on the iPhone 5S, so it is advisable to make a backup before performing it. But such a reinstallation of the OS often helps to avoid failures with codes 50, 47, 14, 3014, 3194, 4005, 4013, 4014, etc. Don’t forget to download the current version of iOS for your phone through the Apple support site. For this:

  • go to http://www.getios.com/ and select the name of your device in the appropriate field;
  • In the The Model drop-down list, specify the device model;
  • select the iOS version (for iPhone 5S it cannot be lower than the seventh);
  • Click Download and get ready to download a file weighing several gigabytes.

The update itself is performed as follows:

  1. Connect your device to your computer via a USB cable.
  2. Switch the gadget to DFU mode by performing the following settings:

○ hold down the Power and Home buttons;

○ after the screen goes dark, release the Power key while continuing to hold Home (the wait will take 10 seconds);

○ if you entered DFU correctly, the computer will notify you through iTunes that the device is in the appropriate mode, while the device itself will remain turned off and nothing should be displayed on the display.

If backup copy missing, you just have to disconnect the device from the computer. It is worth noting that updating the device in DFU mode by formatting the memory and installing the OS in its cleared area proceeds more correctly, while failures 47, 3194, 4005, etc. occur quite rarely. Therefore, in case of serious problems, if the gadget is frozen and the usual methods do not help, you need to restore it through DFU.

Errors that prevent you from updating the firmware and how to fix them

Sometimes, for various reasons, it is not possible to complete the phone firmware process due to errors, each of which has its own code - 50, 47, 14, 3194, 4005, 4013, 4014, etc. Let's look at the error codes, as a result of which they arise and how to eliminate them.

50

Error 50 occurs due to the lack of response to the application from the server. At number 50, it occurs not only during the firmware installation, but also when downloading any content from the iTunes Store. Usually the cause is antivirus software settings.

To resolve the issue when code 50 appears, do the following:

  1. Log out and log back into your iTunes account;
  2. Disable all antivirus applications;
  3. Try downloading iOS for your device again;
  4. To solve the problem with error 50, you can also try uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it.

Performing these steps does not always cause code 50 to stop preventing you from updating your phone. Sometimes the 50th error is a consequence of viruses that delete iTunes-related files. Therefore, if there is no result, scan your PC for viruses and get rid of them if found.

Sometimes error 50 disappears after cleaning the system of debris (temporary folders and files) with the appropriate software, when updating drivers. You can check the OS system files with the command sfc /scannow (in the Run window field, run as administrator) - this way important information can be returned Windows data, including those associated with the appearance of code 50.

3014

Error 3014 occurs when there is not enough free space on the HDD when performing an update. Firmware takes up a lot of space during an update, so error 3014 is often resolved by freeing up disk space. To do this, simply remove unnecessary music and movies, garbage, etc.

47

It's possible that when Error 47 appears, you're dealing with a storage chip hardware issue. This is further indicated by the lack of information about the modem firmware version and IMEI in the “About the device” section. Code 47 also appears when moisture gets into the modem. The case is serious - No. 47 can only be eliminated at a service center by replacing the microcircuit.

Sometimes Windows itself gives Error 47, although it seems that it is iTunes error. This is due to the fact that the OS cannot use the device, since it is prepared for safe shutdown, but has not yet been disconnected from the computer. Then, to eliminate failure 47, it is enough to remove the device from the socket and reconnect it.

14

Error 14 may not allow you to reset the settings and update the phone for several reasons. Firstly, code 14 will cause a failure due to a violation of the firmware files. Often error 14 occurs when trying to install non-original iOS on an iPhone. The solution to problem 14 during installation is to download the archive again from the support site.

Error 14 often occurs due to problems with the equipment, in particular with the USB port or the cable itself. To eliminate No. 14, it will be enough to replace the cable or connect the gadget for iOS updates to another port. Sometimes the problem also occurs due to a false positive from the antivirus - change the settings or disable applications - error 14 may disappear.

3194

In the simplest case, code 3194 indicates that the version of iTunes with which you are trying to flash your iPhone 5S is outdated. To eliminate Error 3194 in this case, it is enough to reinstall this software on your computer.

Also, the appearance of code 3194 during the update indicates that the Apple server does not have SHSH hashes for this firmware together with your gadget. Therefore, go to this version iOS you can't— error 3194 is eliminated after downloading the current OS version for the gadget.

You can also try removing the data 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com from the hosts file. The file is located:

  • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows);
  • /etc/hosts – (Mac OS).

To remove code 3194, try disabling your security software. On the iPhone 5S, fault 3194 also occurs when you try to roll back to old version OS - in modern iOS such Downgrade is not possible.

4005

The device issues code 4005 when a critical failure occurs while updating the device. It can occur in Recovery mode. Therefore, to prevent Error 4005 from interfering with the recovery process for any system reasons, carry it out in DFU mode. Try using a different USB cable as well. Also, sometimes disabling the antivirus helps resolve the 4005 failure during update.

Problem 4005 may also be a consequence of not the latest software versions. Try downloading the latest firmware, reinstall iTunes, and then reflash the phone in DFU mode. As a last resort, try to avoid failure 4005 by transferring your work to another computer with iTunes. If this does not help, error 4005 is probably the result of hardware problems that can only be fixed by a service provider.

2005, 2009

Codes 2005 and 2009 usually indicate problems with the data cable. To be able to reflash the device and avoid crashes in 2005 and 2009, disconnect the USB devices on the PC, leaving only the keyboard and mouse and the gadget itself. Perform the restore again.

If you cannot solve the problems with the appearance of Error 2005 and 2009, try disabling antivirus applications and scan your PC system files for damage.

4014, 4013

The appearance of codes 4013 and 4014 during the recovery process indicates that critical errors have occurred and that the firmware file cannot be uploaded to the device. The first problem with Error 4013 can be solved by flashing it in DFU mode.

Failure 4014 may be able to be fixed if you try to reflash the device from another PC. In both cases, it is advisable to use a different USB cable.
