There are two options for:
  1. Autoconfigurator Quick Setup. The easiest way, ideal for beginners. But, unfortunately, the method is quite limited. If the provider uses PPTP or L2TP technology (usually Beeline), then there is no point in using the customizer;
  2. Advanced level setup. This is a method of manually setting up a TP-Link TL router. But don’t be scared, this method is quite simple.

We configure a router for Rostelecom and similar providers

Go to the section network settings(English “Network”) then click on the Internet subsection (“WAN”). The tp link tl router is configured according to the following parameters:
  • Type of Internet connection – select the PPPoE value;
  • User information (login and password) – provided upon concluding an agreement with the provider. Issued on special paper and/or stated in the agreement itself;
  • Secondary connection type – switch off;
  • Internet connection - automatic connection. This item is set at the request of the user. If you do not want the Internet to start autonomously when you turn on the computer, then you should set “Connect on demand”.

After finishing Wi-Fi settings you can connect to the Internet from any device.

Opening a port on a TP-Link router

Port forwarding will be carried out in the “Forwarding” section and in the subsection virtual server. Click on the Add New icon and set the following parameters:
  • Service port– here you need to enter one or more opening ports;
  • IP-address - write the PC address for a local network for which the port will be opened;
  • Network protocol – the protocol that is currently in use is selected. It can be TCP, UDP. The best option would be to click All;
  • Status – Enabled. It's always the same.

In this article I will tell you how you can do the initial setup of Tp-link routers. The advantage of this company in terms of settings is that almost all Tp-link routers are configured in almost the same way.

In addition, they have an intuitive port color scheme. And even an inexperienced user will not have to think about where to connect which cable.

We will configure the router in three stages:

  1. Setting up an Internet connection
  2. Setting up Wi-fi on the router

So let's get started.

Preparing the router for setup

We turn on the router to the network. We connect the provider cable to the blue port on the router.

If you do not have this cable, you can connect to the router via Wi-Fi from any device.

Launch any browser and go to the site 196.168.0.1

If this data is not suitable, then you can reset the settings on the router. To do this, press the Reset button and hold for 10 seconds. All indicators on the router should blink. After this, we wait about a minute until the router boots up and try to log in again.

Setting up an Internet connection on a Tp Link router

To set up the connection, we will need data from your provider. They should have been given to you upon connection. If this data is not available, you will need to call the support service and find out how to get it. It will also be possible to clarify the protocol by which you connect to the Internet (PPPoE, PPtP, L2TP, etc.) We will configure PPPoE, since this is the most common protocol used to connect to the Internet.

  • On the left in the menu, select the Network section (Netwotk)
  • Next, select the protocol by which you are connecting (PPPoE, PPtp, L2Tp, etc.)
  • We enter the login and password issued by the provider (if you have a PPtP connection, you also need to specify the server address)
  • Secondary connection dot Dynamic IP
  • WAN connection mode, put a dot on Connect automatically
  • Click the Save button and wait for the page to refresh.

After the page has been updated, open new tab. If you did everything correctly, then the Internet should already be working. All that remains is to configure WiFi.

Setting up Wifi on a Tp Link router

Setting up Wifi couldn't be easier. If you have a dual-band router, then Wifi is configured separately for each 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band!

  • On the left, select the Wireless network section
  • In the Network name (SSID) field, enter the name new network Wifi in Latin letters
  • Mode: 11bgn Mixed Channel: Auto
  • Click Save. If the router prompts you to reboot, then it’s too early.

Now let's set a password for the Wifi network:

  • On the left, select the Wireless Security section
  • Select protection WPA/WPA2 – Personal or WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK
  • We select the version WPA2-PSK, and the encryption is AES
  • Click Save

If the router prompts you to reboot the router (a red line appears), then reboot. After the reboot, we check the WiFi connection, everything should work.

Enjoy!

Hello! Now we will connect and configure the Tp-link TL-WR841N Wi-Fi router. If you have a TL-WR841ND model, then these instructions will also suit you. Let's look at the entire process of connecting the router, setting up the Internet, Wi-Fi network and setting a password for Wi-Fi network.

All this with photos, and detailed description. So you shouldn’t have any problems setting up the Tp-link TL-WR841N router. Just follow the instructions.

A few words about Tp-link TL-WR841N (TL-WR841ND). A very successful Wi-Fi router model that is very popular. Indeed, a successful model, with an excellent price/quality ratio. It seems to me that for home use, an undemanding user cannot find a better router. I myself, in practice, tested the operation of the Tp-link TL-WR841N. It has been working perfectly for more than five years, distributing Wi-Fi to a large number of devices. It works very stably, I don’t even remember that the Internet was lost on it or something else. You can read more about Tp-link TL-WR841N at. There you will find a short review and my review.

If you have already purchased this router, then it’s time to move on to configuration. Let's do everything according to this scheme:

  • Connecting the Tp-link TL-WR841N router.
  • Setting up an Internet connection (WAN).
  • Setting up a Wi-Fi network on the TL-WR841N.
  • Setting a password for Wi-Fi protection networks.
  • Changing the admin password, which protects the router settings.

Connection Tp-link TL-WR841N

Connect the power adapter to the router and plug it into a power outlet. If the indicators on the router do not light up, then turn on the power using the button located on the rear panel.

If you configure the router via cable (which comes included), having connected it to a computer or laptop, then take a network cable and connect the computer to the router. On the router, connect the cable to the LAN connector (one of 4):

We connect the second end of the network cable on the computer to the network card connector:

Connecting and setting up a Wi-Fi network

If you want to configure the router via Wi-Fi, and not by connecting via cable, then just connect to the Wi-Fi network, which will appear immediately after turning on the power on the Tp-link TL-WR841N router. The network will have a standard name (something like this: "TP-LINK_084313"), and will not be protected.

You can even connect to this network from a tablet or phone and set up a router without a computer.

You probably found a disk included with the TL-WR841N. There is a utility for configuring the router. So, we will configure without a disk, through the router’s web interface. We will not need the disk in this instruction. If you want to configure via the utility from the disk, you can do this according to the instructions.

The Internet must be connected to the router. And your computer, tablet, laptop, etc. must be connected to Tp-link via cable or Wi-Fi. The router's power must be turned on. If everything is ready, then you can proceed to configuration.

The router settings will open.

And if the router has already connected to the provider and is distributing the Internet, then you can continue setting up.

Setting up a Wi-Fi network and setting a password on the Tp-link TL-WR841N router

To configure Wi-Fi, you need to open the tab on the settings page Wireless - Wireless Settings. On this page we need in the field Wireless Network Name come up with and write down a name for your Wi-Fi network, and in the drop-down menu Region select the country where you live. Leave the rest of the settings as they are in the screenshot below.

To protect our wireless network with a password, go to the tab Wireless - Wireless Security. There you need to select the security type WPA/WPA2 - Personal (Recommended).

In field PSK Password create and write down a password that will protect your Wi-Fi network. You can read more about setting a password on the TL-WR841N router in the article.

Save the settings by clicking the button Save.

Change admin password. Protecting your router settings

I already wrote in a separate article about how to do this in the router settings. Let's, while we are in the settings of the Tp-link TL-WR841N, immediately change the password that is used to protect the settings page. So that everyone who connects to your network will not be able to go into the router settings and change them.

Open the tab System Tools - Password. Enter your old username and password first (default - admin). Then enter your new username below (you can leave admin) and a new password. I advise you to write down this password somewhere so you don’t forget. Save the settings with the button Save.

That's all, the configuration of the Tp-link TL-WR841N router is complete. All that remains is to reboot the router. This can be done by turning off/on the power, or from the settings. On the tab System Tools - Reboot, you need to click on the Reboot button.

After setup and reboot, a Wi-Fi network will appear with the name that we set during the setup process. And to connect to a wireless network, use the password that we also set when setting up the router.

You can already connect your devices to the router. If you set up via cable, but want to connect via Wi-Fi, then the laptop can be disconnected from the router and connect via a wireless network.

You can leave your feedback and questions in the comments!

TP-Link is the largest manufacturer of Wi-Fi routers and a number of others computer equipment. TP-Link TL WR741ND is a widely used router model for home and office use. Next, we’ll look at how to configure a router to access the Internet using different types of connections, and also give an example of setting up a Wi-Fi network.

Resetting the router and connecting to a computer

Since you are going to completely reconfigure TP-Link router model TL WR741ND, it is best to immediately reset its settings to factory values. To do this, take a small object as thick as a needle (the tip of a ballpoint pen will do), and then use it to press the Reset button (see picture below) located at the back of the router and hold for a few seconds. The router must be turned on at this moment.

If you notice that all the front lights of the device come on at the same time and then go out, it means software setup cleared by default - you can continue.
Before setting up the modem, connect to it the cable that is used to access the Internet. It must be connected to the WAN port, which is blue (indicated as Internet in the figure). Now let's look at how the setup itself will be done.
Since the TP-Link TL WR741ND is a wireless router, you can connect to it via a Wi-Fi connection. To do this, just turn on the router, and then connect to the Wi-Fi network through a computer or other communication device - a smartphone, tablet, etc. If you have just purchased the modem or you have reset its settings, then the name of the network will be the same as the name of the model itself router. In this case, you will not need a password.

If for some reason you cannot connect to the router via Wi-Fi, you can only use a cable connection. To do this, one end of the network cable is connected to any of the ports of the Link TL WR741ND router, which is yellow, and the other end is connected to the computer’s network card. After this, the computer should notify you about connecting to the local network, and the light on the router will blink under the number of the LAN port to which the cable was connected. However, this does not always happen, so it is better to configure the connection in manual mode. We enter one by one:

If no exchange occurs and command line writes something like “Waiting interval exceeded”, you can try resetting the router again, checking that the wire is connected to it correctly and reconfiguring the IP addresses network card computer.

The router is configured via the web interface

Open your Internet Explorer, enter “192.168.0.1” in address bar. A small dialog will appear in the browser window, in which you will need to enter your username and password. Both of them are admin by default. Enter them and click "OK".

TP-Link TL WR741ND supports several types of Internet connection

Before setting up the device, you need to find out what kind of connection technology it is global network used by your internet service provider. Below we will discuss the most likely connection options, one of which will exactly suit your case.

Go to the Network section on the left side of the modem interface, then to WAN. We are interested in WAN Connection Type. Setting up for one type of connection or another always starts from here.

Static IP

The technology is not used very often. Here you just need to ask your provider for 5 network IP addresses (shown in the picture below). Enter them in the appropriate fields and click Save - the setup is complete.

PPPoE/Russia PPPoE

The technology involves using a login and password to access the network. If you know the data, enter it in the appropriate fields: User Name (login), Password (password) and Confirm Password (confirmation).

PPPoE technology is often used with static IP. If your provider issues these addresses to its clients, you will also need to enter them. To do this, in the Secondary Connection section, move the switch to Static IP and enter the IP address and subnet mask provided by your provider.

Click Save.

L2TP/Russia L2TP

By default, the connection type requires specifying the server address, login and password, as well as (not always) additional network addresses issued by the provider individually to each client.

First we enter the data in the User Name and Password fields. Then in “Server IP Address/Name” we enter the server address (also issued by the supplier). It may look like a regular IP address or, for example, “adres.provaydera.ru”. If your provider has issued additional network addresses, turn on the Static IP item and fill in the fields, as in the case of the Static IP paragraph.

Click Save.

PPTP/Russia PPTP

Another common type of connection. Here, to connect to the provider, use VPN network. The settings are exactly the same as in the case of L2TP/Russia L2TP, described in the previous paragraph. You will only have to call your provider to clarify the type of connection they use.

In the case of TP-Link TL WR741ND, Wi-Fi is installed simply:

All other points can be left as is.

Click Save. TP-Link TL WR741ND is ready for use! All that remains is to check the connection.
