Introduction

I already told you about a new product from Fly called IQ446 in a previous article. This device differed from most similar ones in its low price (about 10,000 rubles) and a powerful quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor. Overall, the device turned out to be interesting, but due to the fact that Google Play There were practically no hit toys for IQ446, which somewhat spoiled the impression.

Simultaneously with the 446th Fly model, they also rolled out the 451st with the name Vista. Frankly speaking, I associate this word with Microsoft’s not-so-successful operating system. The IQ451 smartphone received the same chipset and processor, but the screen diagonal grew from 4.5 to 5 inches, and the resolution increased from qHD to HD. The camera module remained the same: 8 megapixels, shooting video in FullHD.

Judging purely by technical specifications, then we get a budget analogue Samsung Galaxy Note I or Note II, which is very good!

The cost of Fly IQ451 Vista is approximately from 10,000 to 13,000 rubles.

Design, dimensions, control elements

The Fly IQ451 smartphone is practically no different from its counterparts and most of all resembles the enlarged Fly IQ442. The body shape is rectangular with strongly smoothed edges. Top part the back side smoothly transitions to the upper end, creating a visual thinning of the body. The rear lower area is not as beveled. The plastic edging along the edge forms a small edge on the front panel.

Two colors will be available for sale: IQ451 in white and black. In the first case, the front panel and back cover are light, with silver edging; in the second - dark, and the edging is semi-gloss bronze.

The screen is easily soiled, but marks are erased quite easily. But the Fly definitely missed the mark with the rear panel: a huge piece of glossy plastic, on which not only fingerprints are noticeable, but also other traces. I don’t understand what kind of love there is for such materials? According to some information, a smartphone made of matte plastic will soon go on sale!

The assembly of the device is excellent, but if you press on the central area of the back side, you can hear the quiet sounds of the panel bending. Since the display is protected by glass (type unknown), there is no need to worry about scratches, or rather, their appearance on the surface of the screen.

The dimensions of the device are quite large - 144x74x10.7 mm, however, if you take into account Galaxy Note, then it is even taller and wider, although a little thinner - 146x83x9.7 mm. The weight of the IQ451 is 150 grams – quite good for a five-inch device: the same Note weighs 178 grams. Fly fits perfectly in the hand thanks to the sloping shape of the body back cover. Oddly enough, it does not slip out of your hands, even if they are wet.

On the top of the front panel there are light and proximity sensors, front-camera and a speaker covered with a thin metal mesh, and next to it is an event indicator. The sensors are working correctly. The speaker has no volume reserve; it is relatively high. The interlocutor can be heard clearly and intelligibly, mainly mid and high frequencies predominate, there are no extraneous noises or echoes.

Back, Home and Menu are located below the screen. The buttons are touch sensitive, there is a white backlight, dim, and high sensitivity. Just below is the microphone.

On top there is a microUSB and a 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones or headsets.

On the right side there is a button to turn the device on/off (thin, almost recessed into the body), and on the left there is a volume rocker key.

Large camera module, rising 2-3 mm above the body, additional microphone (noise reduction and stereo recording in videos), the LED flash and speaker are on the back.

To open the lid, you need to pry it off by the protrusion on the right edge. Under the panel there are two slots for installing SIM1 and SIM2, and between them there is a slot for a microSD memory card (it cannot be replaced with a “hot” one).

Size comparison:

Display

The Fly IQ451 smartphone boasts two main features: a powerful chipset and a high-quality screen. ABOUT latest feature we'll talk.

It uses a 5-inch diagonal screen, and the resolution is 720x1280 pixels - everything is the same as in “adult” models. Physical size matrix – 62x110 mm, density – 293 pixels per inch. Pixelation is invisible, moreover, the sharpness of the image is very high. Color rendition is excellent, and viewing angles are maximum. However, if you look at the screen from the right side, the image will turn yellow, while on the left it will turn violet. There is nothing wrong with this - a common occurrence for IPS matrices.

If we compare the Fly IQ451 and Explay HD displays, the latter has slightly weaker saturation, brightness decreases at angles, and color rendition is more disrupted.

The sensor is made using capacitive technology and handles up to 5 simultaneous touches. Sensitivity is relatively high.

Comparison with Explay HD:

Battery

The Fly Vista uses a removable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh, 3.7 V, 7.4 Wh. Type – BL4257. The capacity, frankly speaking, is very small for a 5-inch diagonal and HD resolution!

The manufacturer claims that the device will work for about 5 hours in talk mode, and up to 400 hours in standby mode.

If you use the phone for about 7-8 hours, the battery will be completely discharged provided: 20-25 minutes of calls per day, 2 hours of constant use of Wi-Fi Internet (Twitter, mail, downloading applications and installing them), about 5- ten hours of mobile Internet and an hour of listening to music.

You can listen only to music for 45 hours, watch only video (maximum screen brightness, high volume, movie resolution - HD 720p) - just over 3 hours. If you want to play with toys (checked on DeadSpace), the battery will run out after 3 hours.

Communication capabilities

The phone works in cellular networks 2G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE, 850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G (900/2100 MHz). In this case, one SIM card functions only in 2G, the other - in 2G or 3G. If used Mobile Internet, then traffic is limited in the settings. In the “SIM Card Management” settings section, you can set the name of the SIM cards, their color, and data transfer.

In stock Bluetooth version 4.0 (EDR/A2DP) for file and voice transmission. Present wireless connection Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n. The device, of course, can be used as an access point (Wi-Fi Hotspot) or modem. In the settings, this item is listed as “Modem mode”.

USB 2.0 (High-Speed) is used for file transfer and data synchronization.

Memory and memory card

Fly IQ451 Vista smartphone is equipped with one gigabyte random access memory. At the moment this is the norm. On average, about 500 MB is free.

1.7 GB of Flash memory is allocated for installing applications, and just under one gigabyte for data storage. Expandable by installing a microSD card, the maximum capacity of which can be 32 GB (microSDHC). I have not tried installing cards on 64 GB.

Camera

The device has two camera modules: the main one is 8 MP, the front one is 2 MP. There is a single-section LED flash. The maximum photo resolution is 3264x2448 pixels, video - 1920x1080 pixels at 30 frames per second.

The camera modules in Fly IQ451 and IQ446 are slightly different. For example, the latter has a lens with an aperture of F2.2, and the first has an aperture of F2.4. However, overall the quality of the photos is equally excellent!

The minimum ISO value is 100, the maximum is 1600 (set only manually, photos are compressed to 1 MP).

The front camera has a 2 MP module. Works with Skype. The Camera interface has fast access to a video camera - as in top models.

Fly shoots video in FullHD at 30 frames per second. The quality is great - many flagship devices for 20+ “kilo-rubles” would be envious! The sound is clear, stereo.

The camera interface has been slightly changed relative to bare Android: bottom right – settings, activation of a photo or video camera, gallery; top – front camera, flash, left – HDR mode. It is possible to take a series of frames: 40 or 99.

EXIF information from a photo file

Video file characteristics:

  • File Format: 3GP
  • Video codec: MPEG-4, 25 Mbit/s
  • Resolution: 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
  • Audio codec: AAC, 128 Kbps
  • Channels: 2 channels, 48 kHz

Performance

The smartphone uses MediaTek MT6589 chipset. ARM Cortex-A7 processor (FPU and NEON) with ARM TrustZone advanced security technology (a set of instructions that helps protect mobile devices, mobile payments and content streaming), made using a 28nm process technology. The graphics accelerator is PowerVR SGX 544MP (Series 5TX), developed by Imagination Technologies. You can read a little more detail in the Fly IQ446 review:

Unlike IQ446, Google Play IQ451 has all modern toys (Real Racing 3, Dead Space, GTA Vice City, NOVA 3), and they run without problems.

Information from various applications and performance tests:

Fly smartphones have become frequent guests of our editorial staff. Not surprising, because Meridian Telecom is updating its the lineup more often than other manufacturers. Only recently we looked at the first Fly smartphone with an HD screen - somewhat - the first smartphone on the new MTK6589 hardware platform, and today we will talk about a device that skillfully combines the qualities of both - Fly IQ451 Vista.

The design of a smartphone in black cannot be called attractive. There are no elements in it that attract attention. The corners are rounded, the back is convex, the front is covered with tempered glass with a protruding rim around its perimeter, which serves as additional protection. The only little thing is our copy, or rather, its back panel. It was also noted that the removable cover is the most unfortunate part of the case. The reason for this is its execution - black gloss, which is not only not very pleasant to touch, but just to look at. And here Meridian Telecom once again proved how flexible their company can be. It was decided that commercial samples would come with a different panel, more in line with the price status of the device. It will also be glossy, but with a pattern “like Kevlar” or carbon, as you prefer to call it.

Due to the pattern, fingerprints should not be as obvious as they are now. In addition, this adds the very zest to the smartphone that it does not have now. Smartphones will also be on sale in white, which, in our opinion, is much more attractive.

So, let's see what elements are on the Fly IQ451 Vista case.
On the front panel in its upper part there are proximity and light sensors, a speaker, a camera eye and an indicator hidden under the speaker grid. Below them is a 5-inch IPS display with HD resolution and three touch keys – “Menu”, “Home” and “Back”. The keys are not very brightly backlit.

On the almost flat sides there are, on the left, a double volume key with a small recess dividing it in the middle, and on the right, a power-lock button. The keys are comfortable to use, thanks to both sharp edges and a small protrusion above the surface of the case. The key travel is short and crisp.

There are three holes at the ends of the body. Below is a microphone, and at the top is a USB cable and headphones. The back side of the case tapers towards the ends, which gives the impression that the smartphone is thinner than it actually is, and also has a positive effect on ergonomics.

The role of back protection hand fly IQ451 Vista plays removable cover. Its edges extend onto the sides and ends of the body. As we have already said, our copy has a glossy lid without any pattern, while in commercial samples it will have a “Kevlar” pattern on it. What attracts attention here is the camera protruding above the general surface of the body. The lens is framed by a metal rim with longitudinal notches. To the left of the camera you can see the microphone hole. On the right is the inscription - camera resolution in megapixels. Below it is a flash LED. Its location is one of the most correct, since the probability of accidental overlap of the flash in this place is almost zero. At the bottom of the panel you can see the manufacturer's logo and many diamond-shaped speaker holes. To remove the panel, there is a special recess on the right side. The lid is made of fairly thick plastic. Removing it opens access to a 2000 mAh battery and three slots - SIM 1, MicroSD and SIM 2. To remove the card from any of them, you need to remove the battery.

The build quality of our Fly IQ451 Vista sample is not the best, which is quite expected, given that this is an early test sample. But, if we draw an analogy with other Fly smartphones, we can assume that there should be no creaks or play in the Fly IQ451 Vista. As for the dimensions, the smartphone cannot be called compact even compared to other 5-inch models. To have an idea of its parameters, here is a comparison with popular models.

Fly IQ451 Vista – 144 x74x 10.7 mm, weight - unknown
s – 143.5x 76.9 x 9.6 mm, 162 g
– 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm, 130 g
– 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm, 146 g
– 131.6 x 69.3 x 9.8 mm, 151 g
– 143 x 70.5 x 9.1 mm, 140 g
– 140x71x9.4 mm, 170 G
– 139.6x90.4x8.5 mm, 168 g

As you can see, the Samsung Galaxy is closest in size to the Fly IQ451 Vista Grand Duos.

Operating system and shell

The Fly IQ451 Vista smartphone runs an operating system. The operating system interface has remained virtually untouched; all differences boil down to changed application shortcuts, Settings menu icons and the function bar and switches in the Notification Panel.

Users who want to have a device with big amount personalization options, it will not be difficult to install a third-party shell. We tested GO Launcher EX on Fly IQ451 Vista - no problems were found in the operation of either.

Since, in addition to the differences described above, the smartphone interface is no different from, and that in turn is practically a copy, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the relevant part of the review of these devices, including what concerns working with two SIM cards.
Considering the productive hardware platform, we did not find any problems with the smooth operation of the interface, despite the screen resolution of 1280x720 pixels.

Hardware platform

Fly devices became the first smartphones on the Ukrainian market based on a quad-core system-on-chip MTK6589. This crystal is manufactured using a 28-nm process technology and includes four Cortex-A7 processor cores clocked at 1.2 GHz and a video accelerator PowerVR SGX544 MP, 1 GB of RAM and 4 GB of storage, of which 3 GB is available to the user. Considering the presence of a slot for memory cards, as well as the ability to choose the type of memory where applications will be installed (internal or external), this size does not seem insufficient. In addition, the smartphone supports USB Host, which means that using a special adapter you can connect to it peripherals, including hard disks and USB flash drives. In practice, it looks like this: the cache of the game Real Racing 3 is located on the memory card, while the game itself is installed in internal memory smartphone. If you want to play on another smartphone or tablet, just remove the memory card and insert it into required device. The situation is similar with backward compatibility.
The performance of the MTK6589 system-on-chip matches the results of Nvidia Tegra3, in which clock frequency 20-30% higher than in a crystal from MediaTek, but unlike it, much less energy efficient. True, in the case of the Fly IQ451 Vista you shouldn’t count on much, because it uses a 5-inch screen and the battery is not the best large capacity. Looking ahead, let's say that it will be very interesting for us to check and compare the operating time of the Fly IQ450 Quattro running on Android 4.2 with the hero of this review. After all, the hardware platform and battery capacity are the same, only the screen resolution differs: there it is 854x480 pixels at 5 inches, and here it is 1280x720 pixels at the same 5 inches.

When it comes to comparing the energy efficiency of MTK6589 and Nvidia Tegra3, there is only one way to compare them directly, comparing Fly IQ451 Vista and LG Optimus Vu. The LG smartphone also uses a 5-inch IPS matrix, albeit with a lower resolution of 1024x768 pixels and a different aspect ratio, 4:3. Unfortunately, the Optimus Vu provided by LG was somewhat crude in terms of software, which did not allow it to pass the standard Antutu Tester, so we can only compare the operating time of smartphones when watching HD videos from Youtube. It is 4 hours 30 minutes for LG Optimus Vu and 5 hours 10 minutes for Fly IQ451 Vista at 50% brightness. With automatic brightness, the operating time of the Fly IQ451 Vista is already 6 hours and 45 minutes, which also cannot be called a high figure, but it is better than the LG Optimus Vu shows in similar conditions. If we talk about continuous music playback (MP3 files with a bitrate of 192-320 Kb/s), you can count on 10 and a half hours. Continuous reading (FBReader, 100% brightness) operating time is 9 hours and 5 minutes. At 50% brightness, the time will increase to 11 and a half hours. Further reduction in brightness has virtually no effect on the result. In the Antutu Tester application, the smartphone scored 462 points, lasting about 2 and a half hours. This means that the operating time during active use will be about 5-6 hours (not to be confused with the continuous operating time of the display); such modes may correspond to frequent use of GPS, for example, for navigation purposes, or surfing, reading news from social networks. For quieter use – 20 minutes telephone conversations, 10 text messages, an hour of reading social networks, a few photographs with a flash, you can quite count on a day and a half of work.

The quality of network reception, as well as voice transmission in both directions, is at a good level. The smartphone quickly switches to WCDMA (UMTS) mode after roaming, for example, when leaving the subway into an open space. The quality and speed of signal reception and transmission in the Wi-Fi network is excellent, one of the best in its class. Searching for GPS satellites is relatively fast.

The volume of sound playback in headphones in a standard player is sufficient for any conditions. Good quality can be achieved by using suitable headphones, even without using third-party players. But the sound of the multimedia speaker is average at best, both in volume and quality. The smartphone also does not have a warning about high sound volume when headphones are connected. If you listened to music at maximum volume, then when you reconnect the headphones, the sound will remain at the same level.

Like the Fly IQ446 Magic, the smartphone in question has a wide range of video codecs, which will definitely appeal to those who like to watch videos on their smartphone. Like all tested devices, Fly IQ451 Vista does not reproduce sound in AC3 format; for this you have to use third party applications. If the sound is encoded in MP3 or AAC, the smartphone can easily digest video in resolutions up to Full HD with a bitrate of 10 Mbit/s. The sound volume when playing sound is the same as when listening to music, that is, sufficient for any situation.

Display and camera

The smartphone uses a 5-inch diagonal IPS matrix with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and a pixel density of 294 ppi. The device became the first Fly model to have an IPS matrix with HD resolution.
The display brightness level ranges from 27 cd/m² to 380 cd/m². A 50% brightness level corresponds to 210 cd/m², automatic brightness in office lighting conditions it shows 92 cd/m². Speaking about indicators, it should be noted that its minimum level is clearly overestimated, although not excessive. Interestingly, in the FBReader application, the backlight level is adjusted more flexibly than using the scale in the display settings; moreover, there you can set the brightness to a level that is comfortable for the eyes, even when reading in the dark.
The viewing angles are excellent, color saturation is inferior to AMOLED matrices and some IPS matrices, for example, HTC One X or LG Optimus G, but only experienced users will be able to see the difference. For most, the display will look at least decent.
The matrix and tempered glass are not one whole, which means that there is an air gap between them. Without it, the quality of the display (brightness, visibility on the street) would be even better.

Two cameras with a resolution similar to the Fly IQ444 Diamond allow you to take pictures comparable to the Fly IQ446 Magic. According to Meridian Telecom, the Fly IQ451 Vista uses a second-generation OmniVision back-illuminated matrix. The 8 MP camera aperture is f/2.4. The viewfinder interface is exactly the same as that used in the Fly IQ446 Magic. On the left side of the screen there are three mode switch icons: normal, HDR, portrait, and on the right are keys for taking photographs and recording videos. Above them is a preview of the latest photo or video, and slightly to the left is an icon for switching to the front camera and changing the flash operating mode. In the lower right corner there is an icon with settings where the user can change Common parameters(geotagging, exposure, shooting mode, white balance, image parameters), and settings for photos and videos.

Results

Meridian Telecom once again managed to get ahead of its closest rivals by introducing to the market a smartphone with a 5-inch HD screen and a quad-core hardware platform. The recommended price of a smartphone is 3,000 hryvnia, which on the Internet should result in 2,700-2,800 hryvnia at the start of sales, with a further drop over the next month or two to the level of 2,400-2,500 hryvnia. If we consider prices offline, the Fly IQ451 Vista has no competitors, but if we talk about prices in online stores, the only competitor is the LG Optimus 4x HD, but only if we compare devices with a quad-core processor. LG has a slightly better display, but no USB Host, support for two SIM cards, worse quality of camera images, approximately comparable operating time and Optimus UI 3.0 shell. If you look for Fly Vista competitors in terms of screen diagonal and the presence of two SIM slots, the main one will be Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos. It has a lower screen resolution, but better operating time and interface, while it is about 500-1400 hryvnia more expensive than Fly. Will appear on the market a little later Prestigio Multiphone PAP5000 DUO, but, again, it can only theoretically compete with Fly Vista; in terms of price and characteristics, it is rather closer to the current generation Fly IQ450 Horizon. However, at the time of the appearance of the 5-inch Prestigio, Meridian Telecom must prepare a replacement for the Fly Horizon in the form of the Fly IQ450 Quattro - it will use the MTK6589 chipset (the same as in the Fly IQ451 Vista) and Android 4.2, the design and screen resolution will remain unchanged 854x480 points and price. As a result, we can confidently say that Meridian Telecom is skillfully using its growing popularity, increasing its success through a well-thought-out line of devices that have no direct competitors, and the Fly IQ451 Vista is an excellent smartphone with a 5-inch HD screen, a quad-core platform, support for two SIM cards, good cameras and Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, which can be updated to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean in the near future.

Nowadays you won’t surprise a geek with a quad-core processor in a smartphone, nor with a gigabyte of RAM. On the other hand, if you take a first look at the characteristics of the Fly Vista, everything seems to be there. By at least, "on paper".

The smartphone is packaged in a simple cardboard box, mostly black. In addition to the device and papers, you will find standard stereo headsets (headphones, microphone), a USB-microUSB cable for charging the battery and transferring data, as well as a fairly thin charger.

Line neighbors

Our hero’s closest “neighbor” is the Fly IQ450 (Horizon). With the same screen diagonal as Vista (but with a lower resolution), the device is equipped with a dual-core gigahertz processor and 512 MB of RAM. Android version: 4.0.4. As you can see, in all respects (except for screen diagonal and battery capacity - here the brothers have parity), the Fly Vista looks noticeably stronger and more mature.

Appearance of Fly IQ451 Quattro Vista

Let me note right away: I like the appearance of the device, although some might say that it is faceless. Indeed, the front part of the smartphone is similar to both the latest flagship “Galaxy” and both extreme “Nexus” - at first glance, they are distinguished only by the presence on Fly Vista of three familiar icons (touch “Menu”, “Home”, “Back”).

Five-inch touch screen frames a metal-like edge, which is designed to protect the display from scratches.

The “decoration” of the front part is completed by the speaker grille.

On the top edge of the device there are microUSB and 3.5 mm TRS (mini-jack) ports. On the bottom there is only a hole for the microphone.

The paired volume key is located on the left side of the device. The device lock/turn off button is located on the right side of the smartphone. I have no complaints about these Fly Vista elements - everything is convenient, you get used to them in a matter of minutes.

The back of the phone is completely covered by a cover made of matte dark gray plastic with a small pattern. The surface of the lid has an interesting texture and does not slip in the hand at all. Most of all, the material, in my opinion, resembles rubber - a tire from a Soviet truck, for example. Practical - couldn't be further from it.

At the top of the back cover there are holes for the camera eye and LED flash. To the left of the camera is the hole for the second microphone (noise reduction), to the right is a message about the eight-megapixel camera. At the bottom there is perforation for a “call” speaker. Just above the speaker there is a modest Fly inscription.

The cover does not fit very tightly to the body of the smartphone. It holds up well, but it “walks” a little when squeezed and creaks slightly. This is the only comment regarding the assembly of the device.

Under the cover there is a camera eye protruding above the surface, and next to it there is an additional microphone for noise reduction during a call. Below is an LED flash, below it is a slot for a microSD card.

On either side of it are slots for the first and second SIM cards. Even lower is a removable lithium ion battery capacity 2000 mAh. Almost at the very bottom there is a small speakerphone, covered with a mesh.

Screen

Let's start with the good.

Fly Vista is equipped capacitive screen resolution 1280x720 pixels, diagonal 5" (PPI 293.72). The sensor processes up to 5 simultaneous clicks.

The brightness is excellent, the screen remains readable in the sun, auto-adjustment works quickly and correctly. The viewing angles are simply excellent.

The manufacturer is silent about screen protection. During its operation, our sample did not receive a single scratch, but the “glass” happily collected fingerprints, which, however, are quite easy to erase.

Now about the not so good. Fly Vista let down the screen sensitivity. No, she's not bad. She's redundant. Either the sensitivity of the touch layer is excessive (which I doubt), or there is some kind of error in the settings or software(which is more likely), but the screen clearly processes the touch even before the touch. In short, you touch the screen, it seems, once, but in reality it turns out double tap on the surface. To avoid this, you just need to touch the screen a little harder, “sharperly” - you need to get used to it. I hope that this problem will be fixed soon, if, of course, it is of a software nature.

Video review of Fly IQ451 Quattro Vista

Interface features, installed applications Fly IQ451 Quattro Vista. Working with 2-SIM

In Fly Vista, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean puffs confidently and reliably. The system interface is practically no different from stock Android. Obvious changes include redrawn and more colorful icons, as well as custom notification sounds. The changes are cosmetic and, I admit, pleasant to my eyes and ears.

The device comes pre-installed with a number of applications, some of which are intended for Russia. Often, in Ukraine these programs/services either do not work or are useless. The big advantage is that, if you wish, you can safely remove the software pre-installed by the manufacturer - without rooting and ritual dances (colleagues, take the example of Fly!).

Working with two SIM cards is simple and straightforward; each step, when used for the first time, is explained in detail to the user. As usual, you can choose (or not choose) a card for calls, data transfers, you can “link” certain contacts to the desired SIM card. There is only one radio module, the cards work simultaneously only in standby mode.

One of the important differences from “pure” Android is the ability to mount the device’s internal memory or microSD card while connecting to a computer via a microUSB cable in USB storage mode. Like a regular flash drive. There is also a “virtual CD drive” mode for installing drivers for the device.

It was not possible to install firmware over the air on this device at the time of writing.

Camera Fly IQ451 Quattro Vista

The smartphone is equipped with an 8 megapixel BSI matrix, which, according to marketers, should have a positive effect on the quality of pictures. With sufficient lighting, as usual, the photographs turn out good, in the dark - not so much. The situation is saved by the HDR mode, which is not “for show” here - the pictures really look better. But the subject of your attention will have to freeze for a few seconds while the device takes pictures in a series of several (at least two) pictures. In the end, everything looks great on Instagram ;)

The video is recorded in a resolution of 1920x1080, 24 frames per second, two-channel audio, in AAC format, 48 kHz, 128 kb/s. Video quality is acceptable.

An example of a video shot with a Fly IQ451 Quattro Vista camera

Fly IQ451 Quattro Vista sound, video playback

The sound from the smartphone's speaker is clear, without hissing or rattling. But it can be easily drowned out by accidentally covering the perforation on the back of the device - for example, with your finger while playing or watching a video in landscape orientation. The sound disappears almost completely.

Subjectively, the smartphone produces good sound in headphones – clear and loud. Just when buying, you shouldn’t forget that this is not a Hi-End player and don’t demand the impossible from the device.

The standard “player” of a smartphone is capable of playing all the most common music formats (mp3, aac, ogg, flac). The player can be controlled from the locked screen.

There is a sound setting in the form of adjusting the equalizer settings. The sound changes noticeably when changing the corresponding parameters.

The FM receiver is banal and simple and hardly needs any detailed description. Reception of transmissions is confident (tested in “field” conditions), the sound is tolerable.

The standard video player is capable of playing even FullHD videos, but not all. Most often, I was faced with the lack of the required audio decoder. As usual, the solution is MX Player Pro (or similar programs).

Performance and autonomy Fly IQ451 Quattro Vista

The device shows, if not record-breaking, then decent performance in synthetic tests.

In real life, Fly Vista showed itself only from the best side - I never observed any slowdowns, freezes, slow program starts, or application crashes. Still, a four-core processor and a gigabyte of RAM are good. Games (for example, GTA Vice City, NFS Most Wanted) launched quickly and did not slow down.

With an average load (about 20 minutes of talking on the phone a day, a couple of hours of reading a book at minimum brightness, 30-40 minutes of web surfing), the device “lived” for a little more than a day. Not the best, but far from the worst battery life - at least you don’t need to carry a charger with you all the time.

Bottom line

The device is pleasant, with good voice quality, and a good GPS receiver.

It’s nice to know that, on average, for 2500 ₴ (about $320), at the time of writing this review, you can buy a productive smartphone with a high-quality five-inch HD screen. For this price, you can forgive the creaking lid and excessive screen sensitivity. I wholeheartedly recommend the Fly IQ451 Quattro Vista for purchase if you are a practical person and don’t want to spend “a lot of money,” but at the same time, you need a productive smartphone with decent battery life and a high-quality HD screen.

3 reasons to buy Fly IQ451 Vista:

  • 5" high-quality HD screen (IPS);
  • decent performance and autonomy;
  • practical body;

2 reasons not to buy Fly IQ451 Vista:

  • excessive screen sensitivity to pressure;
  • creaking back cover.

Which is the flagship, which is 30% more expensive. And my sub-creation expects me to like Vista more! Well, maybe not by 30%, maybe only by 25... And suddenly I discover with horror that I like Vista less... So I'm stuck.

Please don't misunderstand me. Vista- great smartphone. But even if Vista and Magic cost the same and I had to choose between them, I would choose Magic.

Now try to understand me again. I'm not saying that Vista is worse. We are all subjective, we are all subject to emotions. I don't rule out that many people will like Vista more. Better screen, less problems with games. There are advantages, yes.

Confused? Well, let's unravel little by little and point by point.

Brief conclusion

In general, there are a lot of compasses with a gyroscope, some budget devices do not have. But we still have a flagship in front of us. The cheaper Fly IQ446 Magic has all this goodness, but this one doesn’t. Why?

Communication with the outside world

3G. Theoretical maximum mobile Internet speeds are 21 Mbit/s for downloading and 5.76 Mbit/s in the opposite direction. In practice, of course, less, but I didn’t notice any special problems with the mobile Internet.

Wi-Fi b/g/n. Catch with confidence. In particular, I caught a hitherto unknown neighbor’s net named Hahaha. I haven't seen her before.

Bluetooth version 4. There were no problems connecting the headset, but for some reason it was not possible to receive/transfer files. When trying to receive, it complains about not having enough space (I wonder where it is trying to save the files?), when trying to transmit, it simply stupidly reports that the file “was not sent.” As usual, I tried to transmit using file manager ES conductor.

USB. No surprises, no MTP. The smartphone is connected to the computer in MassStorage mode, like two disks - an internal and external flash drive, respectively.

USB-OTG. Yes, I have. Yes it works. I tried connecting a flash drive, tried connecting a mouse. No problem. See the video for a demonstration of how it works.

TV. There is no TV output, MHL (TV signal output via USB) didn’t work for me either.

Screen

Large and beautiful five-inch IPS screen with HD resolution (720x1280). The sensor is, naturally, capacitive. Multitouch - for five simultaneous touches.

The maximum white brightness is not bad - 386.7 cd/m2 (although the Fly Magic is slightly better - 441.6). The minimum white brightness is 29.5 (Fly Magic, again, is a little better - 13.6).

Contrast at maximum brightness is 470:1, the result is decent, but not outstanding (Fly Magic has 610:1).

For those who understand: White point - 10900K, sRGB coverage - 94%, AdobeRGB coverage - 74%.

If you look at the screen off, it doesn't look black enough. However, Fly Magic looks exactly the same.

Subjectively, I really liked the screen; it’s pleasant to look at.

HD resolution? I'm not picky about this. I will be quite comfortable on a screen with a resolution of 540x960. On HD it’s even more comfortable. Well, the letters are a little thinner. Everything is fine. The main thing is that, due to the increased resolution, nothing slows down, so that microlags do not irritate, as was the case with the Fly IQ444 Diamond (which has a previous chipset from Mediatek and an older Android). Is it slow here? No. Well that's just wonderful.

Software

Android version 4.1.2, without additional shells. Of course, there is a certain amount of pre-installed software. But, fortunately, as is usually the case in devices from Fly, almost all of it can be removed, you don’t even need to get root for this.

Battery

Test "GPS on the windowsill, Wi-Fi". Brightness is 100%, Wi-Fi and GPS are on, Yandex.maps are running (traffic jams are on), the device is lying on the windowsill. 4 hours 37 minutes (6:09).

Test "GPS on the windowsill, 3G". The same thing, but instead of Wi-Fi, mobile Internet is turned on. 3:47 (4:52).

Test "Doctor House without a break." Brightness - 50%, sound through headphones - 100%. Xvid video file with a resolution of 720x400 and a “weight” of 760 MB, the player is MX Player in program mode. 6:17 minutes (8:33).

Test "Half an hour of games". Half an hour of playing Zombirds at maximum brightness - minus 15% battery charge (13%).

"Refresh Wi-Fi" test. Once every three seconds for an hour we reload a page weighing 30 kilobytes. Minimum brightness. Minus 10% battery (8%).

Test "Refresh 3G". The same thing, but via the mobile Internet. 17% (15%).

Test " White screen 100". Hour of operation of the device with the screen turned on at maximum brightness and everything else turned off. 20% (14%).

Test "White screen 0". The same thing, but the screen brightness is minimal. 6% (5%).

Audio. In headphones at maximum volume. For 3 hours 20 minutes - 7%.

As you may have noticed, the discharge graph is not very pretty. Up to 15% everything is uniform, then there is a flat plateau for another hour. Clear calibration problems.

The video is shot in quality up to FullHD (1920x1080) inclusive. And by the way, this is not the worst video I've ever seen. Separately, I would like to note the very decent sound recording quality.

Front camera - 2 Mpix. For Skypes - that's it.

Fly IQ451 Vista as a GPS navigator

Good screen size + good screen behavior in the sun + tolerable battery = a very good navigator.

Can't pick up GLONASS satellites. GPS only.

Fly IQ451 Vista as a video player

The pre-installed player eats everything, but categorically does not want to play sound. No, not on all of them, but on at least half of my test videos. Creepy.

Traditionally installed MX Player (software mode). And I was surprised to discover that it calmly devoured everything, including FullHD. On all previous devices on Mediatek chips, including Fly IQ446 Magic, sound desynchronization was constantly observed on FullHD. I didn't find it here. Strange.

Fly IQ451 Vista as an audio player

Amazing volume in headphones. I don't remember ever seeing something like this. Equalizer, that's it. But at the same time, I was never able to achieve settings in which I would enjoy listening to music. Both in the supplied headphones and in my personal “big ones”.

Fly IQ451 Vista and Internet

Good screen size + sufficiently fast hardware = everything is good. Well, screen resolution. Perhaps this is the only test of five-inch smartphones where I am able to at least slightly feel the advantage of HD resolution over 540x960 resolution. Yes, the letters turn out thinner and more elegant.
