NanoStudio is a free software for creating music with large set built-in tools. The main ones include the TRG-16 drum machine and the Eden virtual synthesizer. Supports MIDI devices, has functions for creating compositions, as well as mixing and mastering.

Audacity

A very similar product to Sound Forge, with one big difference - it is completely free. For Open Source Audacity software has surprisingly powerful functionality. The program supports plugins, provides the ability to convert formats, and supports any audio devices.

These are the representatives of audio recording software. Some can only write audio, some can also edit, some are paid, others are free. The choice is yours.

Choice sound recording programs, in fact, has little effect - they all do their jobs well. There are a large number of so-called sequencers, or digital audio stations- programs that allow you to record and play many audio files at the same time. In addition, they make it possible to cut the file into parts, move them, and shuffle them together; and also - change the pitch of the sound, playback speed, stretch the sound. In general, edit the entry as you wish.

In any of these programs you can record everything, edit it, mix it, and master it. Also, they all support working with MIDI - you can sample instruments in them.

Modern music recording software They differ, for the most part, only in the interface. The functionality is approximately the same everywhere. I don't have extensive experience with all the popular digital audio stations, so my review is not an attempt at impartial judgment. I’ll just tell you how I see them and in what cases I use them :)

Steinberg Cubase

I can't say that the interface is simple. But the huge number of settings and functions creates flexibility. It is worth noting that Steinberg are one of the creators of the VST plug-in format, which is now used by the whole world. Of course, their product perfectly supports any such plugins. Cubase is good not only as an audio editor, but also as a MIDI editor. My experience with him comes down to the second case. At one time, a version of this program was supported - Steinberg Nuendo, which had few differences from Cubase.

Cakewalk Sonar

The interface of this program is simpler than Cubase. Many of my friends work in this program, recording, editing, sampling and mixing. Myself I'm very pleased with Sonar's MIDI editor, the mode of drawing notes on the staff. This editor contains few functions, but is simple and trouble-free. I'm talking specifically about entering notes into a computer, and not about creating scores for printing. There are almost no musical notes here.

Magix Samplitude

The interface is not very complicated, comparable to Sonar. Historically, I use Samplitude. The fact is that when I first got into the studio and observed the work of a professional sound engineer, he used this program. This way I got my first free experience and then never switched to any other sequencer. Although, I must admit, Sonar looks a little more convenient from the outside :) In addition, Samplitude has a rather crude implementation of working with the staff. There are many glitches related to the display and printing of notes (Score mode), although other modes work great.

Digidesign ProTools

The fundamental difference between this program and others is that Digidesign also creates equipment tailored for its editor. Of course, this affects the quality and convenience of work. ProTools itself has a clear interface and convenient audio editing tools.

Apple Logic Pro, Ableton Live

Unfortunately, I myself have not worked with any of these programs, although I have seen others do it many times. Nevertheless, they are quite popular and it is impossible not to mention them in the review.

Adobe Audition, Fruity Loops

These editors, as far as I've seen, are less used among professionals than the ones listed above. But they have their supporters and are updated regularly.

I use Magix Samplitude. But if I did not yet have honed skills in working with any of the programs described, then I would choose for myself Cakewalk Sonar, because working with MIDI is implemented better there. Otherwise, I'm completely satisfied with Samplitude. Using his example, I will show how everything can be done :)

You can record important audio information in the following ways:

• if you have a stereo mixer: built-in sound recording program in Windows;
• without stereo mixer: special programs for sound recording, for example, Audacity;
• using an audio cable;
• recording using online programs.

First of all, you need to activate the stereo mix. This device is usually disabled in settings. To enable it, you need to right-click on the speaker icon in the notification area and click on “Recording devices”.

If the stereo mixer does not appear in the list that appears, right-click in the empty field in this window and turn on the “Show disabled devices” mode. Next, we activate the stereo mixer by pressing the right button as usual, then confirm the default use.

Record audio from a computer without a stereo mixer

It happens that some sound cards do not have drivers for a stereo mixer or the manufacturer has blocked such a device. A good helper in this case, the Audacity program will become useful even if you have a stereo mixer. The program has advanced capabilities compared to standard applications for sound recording.

To record sound from a computer using this program, you need to select in the first drop-down Windows list WASAPI, in the second - or the sound card (which serves as your sound source) and press the start button.

Recording using an audio cable

This method is a little exotic, but useful if the stereo mixer is not supported and there is no Internet. Consequently, there is no way to download a recording program or use an online service, but you still need to record an audio track. You will need a cable with a 3.5 connector on both ends.

You need to connect one of the plugs to the microphone jack, the second to the audio output (headphones). After this you can open any accessible program for sound recording, for example, built into Windows, and carry out the necessary actions.
