Fly IQ 4412. Review of the Fly IQ4412 Coral smartphone: bright, thin, powerful. Assembly and controls

IN Lately gadgets in the budget segment are delighting consumers more and more. In addition to a more or less balanced ratio of characteristics and cost, devices often receive high-quality materials: soft-fill or matte plastic instead of the gloss that Korean brands are so fond of.

Moreover, fruitful work on appearance are in full swing. And although it is very difficult to argue with venerable companies, the budget segment never ceases to amaze with some new products in terms of design and ergonomics. Be that as it may, the situation on the market of mobile gadgets, although not so quickly, is changing, and there are more inexpensive devices with attractive characteristics month after month.

The hero of today's review is Smartphone Quad Coral. We will consider the characteristics, design, features, as well as the advantages of the gadget along with the disadvantages. The opinions of experts and reviews of ordinary device owners will be taken into account.

Contents of delivery

The contents of the box are not much different from those of similar representatives of this segment. The only thing that the manufacturer pleased its client with was the presence of a quite sensible headset with a two-color cable, otherwise it was a standard set.

In the box you will see:

  • myself Fly phone IQ4412 Quad Coral;
  • cable for charging and synchronization with personal computer micro USB/USB type;
  • network adapter;
  • stereo headset.

There are no styluses, cases or additional accessories; any of them significantly adds to the cost of the gadget, so the manufacturer keeps the device strictly in its segment.

Design

The Coral smartphone has a classic rectangular shape for a typical candy bar, which is quite acceptable given its dimensions: 137 x 70 x 6.9 mm and weighs 135 grams. This, of course, is not the thinnest device in its segment, but it looks very attractive and compact. It is convenient and easily fits into a small compartment in your purse or the back pocket of your jeans.

You can feel a low edge around the screen, which protects it from scratches if you place the smartphone face down. The case has a non-separable design: the back and sides are made of rubberized plastic, and the front surface is tightly covered with glass, and the screen has a dark blue tint, which adds a certain amount of charm to the Fly IQ4412 Quad Coral. Reviews regarding the design of the gadget are mostly positive. The owners appreciated the modern and rather “fresh” appearance of the device along with its acceptable dimensions.

Assembly and controls

As for the build quality, there are no complaints here: nothing plays, creaks or crunches. Coral Fly The IQ4412 Quad turned out to be surprisingly well assembled and monolithic. If you do not pay attention to the brand logo and the price of the device, then from the visual sensations it seems that in your hands you have quite a venerable gadget from the business segment.

At the top of the smartphone you can see a small peephole for the front camera, sensors and an earpiece. Below the screen are the usual touch buttons to control the basic functions of the gadget. The backlight is quite bright, and some owners in their reviews complain about the inability to change its intensity. On the left side there is a volume rocker, and just below there is a button to lock the device. The location is very convenient, and the pressure itself is quite comfortable.

At the top end we will see a standard headphone interface (3.5 mm), Bottom part phone is not busy. On the right side of the device there is a micro-USB port and a secret compartment for micro-SIM cards.

The back of the Coral Fly IQ4412 Quad is completely flat without any texture. There is a peephole of the main camera along with a flash (which was very pleasing), and at the very bottom there is a speaker, near which you can see the brand logo.

Screen

The screen diagonal size is almost five inches (4.77”) with a quite comfortable resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Spend time in in social networks or watching videos is very convenient. Instead of the IPS matrix already familiar to many gadgets of this type, the developer installed a display like Super AMOLED, featuring good viewing angles without any distortion. The only thing that such matrices suffer from is synthetic colors, but they are saturated and very bright.

The dot density is also at the proper level - 308 ppi. If you have excellent eyesight and you push yourself hard, you will be able to see the pixelation. In other cases, the dots are not noticeable and do not interfere with comfortable work with the device.

Some owners in their reviews note that the automatic brightness adjustment is not entirely competent. In a normal room where lamps are on daylight, you can notice how the gradation of the backlight changes from dim to very bright for no apparent reason. This is a little annoying, but you can always turn off auto-adjustment in the settings, so this point can hardly be called critical.

The touch screen correctly detects all five simultaneous touches and also has good sensitivity. The surface is pleasant to the touch, and your finger glides over it easily - it’s a pleasure to work with the sensor. Controlling the Coral Fly IQ4412 Quad on a sunny day is not so easy. Direct rays are reflected from the screen, making the data difficult to see. This is a common problem with matrices of this type, which means we are looking for shade or working indoors.

Features and performance

Technical Quad Coral are at an average level - nothing supernatural, but you can have fun playing games or your favorite movie without any problems. The already familiar Mediatek processor of the MTK6589 series marked “Turbo” is responsible for the performance. All this works for four cores at 1.5 GHz and paired with one gigabyte random access memory. Unlike previous episodes, where clock frequency did not exceed 1.2 GHz, the processor can be called quite fast.

The graphics component is controlled by the PowerVR SGX 544MP video chip, which more or less copes with demanding applications. The phone does not have much built-in memory - only 16 GB, but the fact that the brand did not provide for working with memory cards is a big minus. Reviews from owners are full of indignation about this, especially since the previous generation had this opportunity.

Camera

The Coral Fly IQ4412 Quad has a main 8 MP camera with LED flash and autofocus, as well as a front camera with more modest performance (5 MP). The maximum resolution for video recording is 1920 x 1080 pixels. The photographs are of decent quality without any serious complaints.

The menu offers many modes, effects and other settings for better shooting. The flash works as it should: photos are not overexposed or blurred. In general, users are very satisfied with the standard camera, and no critical points were noticed in the reviews.

Connection

The device works with only one micro SIM card. Moreover, it is worth noting that among all Fly products, support for microSIM cards is extremely rare.

In addition, the gadget is equipped with intelligent wireless protocol modules: Wi-Fi at 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth version 4, and also supports modem mode and selected access points (MTS, Beeline, Megafon), allowing you to use a smartphone as external device communications for a personal computer.

The gadget does not have any navigation function due to the lack of GLONASS and a GPS module. But this is already from the business segment, so we will not consider this point as a minus.

Autonomous operation

The smartphone has a non-replaceable battery with a capacity of 2100 mAh. A fully charged phone works in active mode for almost 3 hours (games, Internet, Full HD video). Watching movies at medium resolution (480p) will drain the battery in 6-7 hours.

If you use the phone for calls, SMS and rarely go online, then the device will be enough for a day. There is also an energy-saving mode, which will significantly extend the operating time of the gadget.

Summarizing

The device as a whole turned out to be very successful: an upgraded processor, a practical and pleasant body material, an acceptable screen diagonal and good time battery life. The only thing that disappoints is the lack of support for microSD cards.

However, the price-quality ratio is somewhat unbalanced. For a similar price, which is almost 10 thousand rubles, you can look for more sensible models: with a better matrix, support for memory cards and long battery life. In any case, fans of the brand will probably like the smartphone, so it’s up to you to decide whether to stay with Fly or switch to some Samsung or Xiaomi. Fortunately, the assortment in distribution networks is, without exaggeration, huge, and there is always plenty to choose from.

Meridian Telecom smartphones with Super AMOLED screen. The new product received a more productive hardware platform, a noticeably thinner body, an enlarged display to 4.77 inches, a new Android version and a 5 MP front camera.

Contents of delivery

Inside the cardboard box, the user will find a high-quality stereo headset with a two-color flat cable, a 1 A mains charging adapter, a USB cable and documentation, including a warranty card.

Design and ergonomics

Unlike its predecessors, the new product has a thin body without protruding elements. Covers the front part strained glass with oleophobic coating, the back and sides are made of very pleasant-to-touch plastic with a soft-touch coating. The sides taper towards the back, which makes the case more comfortable to use.

On the front side there is a speaker grid, a 5 MP camera, a proximity and light sensor, and a 4.77-inch display. Backlit hardware touch keys. Under the Home key, at the bottom, you can see a small hole for the speaking microphone. The sides are designed to protrude above the glass, so you don’t have to be afraid to place your smartphone with the display down.

The headphone jack is located at the top end. The bottom end is empty. The volume and power/lock keys are located on the left side. On the opposite side there is a USB connector and, covered with a plastic plug, a slot for a microSIM card. Working with mechanical keys is convenient; they are easy to feel blindly due to the sharp edges. The key stroke is short and moderately tight with a characteristic click when activated.

On the back, an eye-catching element is the 8 MP camera lens framed by a metal frame. There is an LED underneath and a microphone hole above it. At the bottom end there are many holes for a multimedia speaker.

Apart from the folding flap covering the SIM card slot, the case does not have collapsible parts. Because of this, it will not be possible to get to the battery. Despite the seemingly drawback, this solution definitely looks better than a removable panel that provides access solely to the SIM card slot (a similar design is used in the Fly IQ444 Diamond and Fly IQ444 Diamond 2), while you will need a screwdriver to remove the battery. The quality of assembly and fitting of parts is excellent. The case does not creak when twisted or squeezed. Fingerprints on plastic are hardly noticeable, and on glass a high-quality oleophobic coating resists their appearance.

Operating system and shell

The smartphone received a more current version of Android, now 4.2, and a new type of menu with settings. Otherwise, we have a typical Android interface with all the capabilities inherent in this version of the operating system.

The lock screen allows you to launch the camera or go to the notification panel. The number of available widgets is standard.

The desktop consists of five windows. From additional features except for installing wallpaper through a file manager.

The dialer supports searching for contacts in Cyrillic.

You can get to the list of widgets only through the list installed applications. The settings menu is divided into two sections: “ General settings" and "All settings". The first tab contains the most frequently used items, and the second contains all available ones. Among the atypical items, we note the “Energy Saving” item, the inclusion of which leads to a decrease in screen brightness and processor frequency, which allows you to increase operating time by 10-20%. It is possible to turn on/off the smartphone and scheduled flight mode.

Hardware platform

The Fly IQ4412 Coral smartphone uses a MediaTek MT6589T system-on-chip, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of permanent memory, without expandability including the use of a USB OTG adapter.

When connected to a PC, out of 16 GB, a little more than 10 GB is available to the user. Almost 2 GB of memory are reserved for installing applications. File system smartphone does not work with files larger than 4 GB. The amount of free RAM after loading the system is about 600 MB.

The performance of the new product is at an average level. In Antutu, the smartphone scores 16-17 thousand points, in Quadrant about 5000.

The sound quality in the headphones is standard for devices based on MediaTek processors - that is, not bad, although audiophiles who are demanding of this parameter are unlikely to be satisfied. Sound volume is high. The video player supports all popular codecs.

Satellite search speed at typical modern devices level, the speed of data exchange in the Wi-Fi network is high.

The autonomy of Fly IQ4412 is at a fairly high level. In fact, the user can always use the power saving mode, disabling it only in cases where maximum performance or screen brightness is needed. In the Antutu Tester application, the smartphone scored 820 points - a very respectable figure. With an average load, you can count on two to three days of work. Overnight (9 hours), with SIM card installed, automatic synchronization of two Google accounts over Wi-Fi, the smartphone battery is drained by 5%. Charging time is 2 hours.

To listen to music, we used a standard player, volume at 12 out of 15 possible, MP3 files with a bitrate of 320 Kbps. In reading mode, all wireless communications are disabled, including data transfer to mobile network, and the display brightness is set to 50%. Navigation includes plotting a route in Google app Navigation. The brightness is set to 50%, all data communication modules are disabled. When playing a video, the display brightness is set to 50%, the sound volume in the headphones is at level 12 out of a possible 15. The video file format is MKV, resolution 1024x432 pixels, frame rate 24. When playing a video from Youtube, the display brightness is set to 50%, the sound volume in the headphones is at 12 out of 15 possible levels.

Display

As we have already said, the Fly IQ4412 uses the same Super AMOLED matrix as the Fly Diamond of the first and second generations, as well as the smartphone Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The only difference is that the diagonal has been increased from 4.65 inches. The display characteristics are as follows: 4.77-inch diagonal, resolution 1280x720 pixels, pixel density 309 PPI.

The display has wide viewing angles and a high-quality anti-glare layer. Like all OLED matrices, the screen displays black color as realistically as possible, but has a noticeable excess in color saturation. Brightness is adjustable from 25 cd/m2 to 287 cd/m2 (at 10% white display). The value of 50% corresponds to 150 cd/m2.

A check of the factory calibration revealed the following features of the matrix: the gamma curve is equal to 2.2, the color temperature is 7500-8000 K, which is noticeably higher than the norm of 6500 K, but is typical for a large number of displays in the entry-level and mid-price segments.

Cameras

Fly IQ4412 is the company’s first smartphone with a 5 MP front camera. The main resolution is 8 megapixels. Camera settings allow you to set ISO value, sharpness, saturation, contrast, select one of several modes, and so on. For some reason, the developers decided to abandon classic HDR (the Fly IQ453 has an HDR mode) in favor of exposure bracketing: the camera takes three pictures with different exposures, allowing you to save any of them or all three.

Photo and video quality is average. The category of people who like to take pictures of themselves with a smartphone should like the fact that the front resolution is 5 megapixels - which is quite a lot.

Video review Fly smartphone IQ4412 Coral

Results

Meridian Telecom managed to create a smartphone with a Super AMOLED screen that combines a low price and good functionality, a thin, high-quality body and excellent battery life. The Fly IQ4412 Coral has no obvious shortcomings, except that some may find the quality of the images taken with the main camera to be insufficiently good.
