Appearance and features The design of the smartphone is frankly boring. Also, frankly speaking, not for this price category, I would like something more elegant. Well, except that the metal edging of the display slightly brightens up the impression. The control keys are touch-sensitive and have markings, but are not backlit. Well, at least not on-screen - thank you. The non-removable back cover is made of metal painted matte black. The top and bottom inserts are plastic. A film is glued to the back cover with an explanation of how to remove the top plastic insert. The film is thick and glued so seriously that I couldn’t even remove it right away. And when I finally removed it, a noticeable adhesive strip remained from the film. I, of course, more or less quickly wiped it off with a rag, but somehow it turned out a little sloppily: wiping something off a new smartphone is clearly not comme il faut. The speaker grid is located in the lower plastic insert on the back of the smartphone; it has two protruding tubercles that prevent the speaker from being plugged when the smartphone is lying on the surface with the display facing up. The upper insert can be removed quite easily, under it there are two microSIM slots and a card slot microSD memory.

On the left side there are two volume keys. Their stroke is small and they are not pressed very clearly.
At the top end there is an audio output.
On the right side there is a power button and an energy-saving mode switch. Personally, I don’t really understand why there is a separate switch for it, but this seems to be a proprietary feature of Philips: I have seen such a switch on other models. The travel of the power button is very small and extremely indistinct.
Here is this smartphone next to the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and with UMI Touch, which, frankly speaking, looks more interesting from a design point of view (I’m generally silent about the Galaxy S6, but this is a completely different price category).
The materials and assembly of the Xenium V787 are at a decent level, but that’s about it. From a purely external perspective, the smartphone is downright boring. It fits well in the hand and doesn’t seem heavy. Display High-quality display on an IPS matrix. Good viewing angles, good brightness margin. Anti-glare filter present, on straight lines sun rays behaves very decently, the image is quite distinguishable. I didn’t like the work of the adaptive brightness control at all: it apparently embarrassed me so much that it showed very little of itself. The display is covered tempered glass Asahi Glass DragonTrail. The colors are natural, not acidic. An oleophobic coating is present, but it does not work very effectively. It uses SoftBlue technology, which, like, reduces the level of harmful radiation in the blue spectrum and protects the user’s eyesight, but what is the truth and what is purely marketing jokes - impossible to check. Purely externally, the display is just a display, but for the first time in my life I learned that other displays poison me with harmful radiation in the blue spectrum. Apparently, they don’t bully me that much, since I still survived, actively using displays for the last thirty years. Device operation Previously Philips phones they installed pure Android, and now they have made their own shell, which, to be honest, did not make much of an impression on me. Some fancy pictograms with signatures on the dies, zero settings, in my opinion, inconvenient to use. However, this is Android, so install the shell you need and don’t bother yourself. Moreover, the system applications here are standard, android ones, which are also better replaced with something more decent. (I do not like pure android, to be honest.) This is what the main desktop looks like.

Audibility is normal, it is possible to record a conversation. Apparently there is no noise cancellation.

The Wi-Fi test showed almost maximum parameters for the testing conditions, the 4G test showed normal parameters for the testing conditions.

Audio The sound of the built-in speaker is very loud, but without overload. The sound quality is very good.

The Myst Nail2 reinforcement headphones are not bad: the sound lacks a little volume, there is a slight “wooden” component, decent highs and mids, lows are practically not observed.

Over-ear headphones Plantronics BackBeat Pro in wired mode is not bad: the sound is slightly boomy, decent bass, but clearly insufficient highs. Video FullHD videos are played without any brakes.
Games The platform, frankly speaking, is not very powerful. 3D games work on it, but the smoothness is clearly not enough. Asphalt 8 exhibited high image quality, but noticeably slowed down when playing. Even with prolonged use of the same Asphalt 8, the back cover practically did not heat up.

The power saving mode is standard android, apparently. I saw in the descriptions that some kind of proprietary mode from Philips is used here, but I still don’t understand how it differs from the standard one. The enabled energy saving mode under normal load adds about 20 percent of battery life, but at the same time the already slow smartphone slows down, the display brightness decreases and an annoying orange background appears in the status bar.

The camera, in my opinion, is very, very good. Good clarity rich colors, is well focused in the very normal mode(without indicating the focus point with your finger). However, in not very good lighting conditions, focusing can sometimes miss. It also shoots video quite well. The white balance sometimes fluctuates slightly back and forth, but within very reasonable limits. So, in my opinion, everything is in order with the camera for this price category. System and performance CPU-Z data.

The smartphone is not fast, there are lags in some places, but it is fast enough for ordinary tasks. With 3D games you can’t achieve much smoothness here, but, however, it’s quite possible to play the same tanks. Battery life Smartphone supports fast charging at 5V 2A. At the same time, it charges from zero to one hundred percent in about 3 hours, which is quite fast. According to the device, the capacity gained from scratch was even more than 5000 mAh, namely 5135 mAh. Below are my usual battery tests, which are traditionally carried out with power saving mode is turned off. Internet. The display brightness is set to a comfortable 40% without auto-adjustment. All wireless types of communication are turned on, the page in the browser is updated every 30 seconds. It turned out to be only 11 hours. The Lenovo Vibe P1 with a battery of the same capacity lasts as much as 17 hours, which is one and a half times more - this is a very big difference. Video. Wireless communications are turned on, the player's brightness is set to a comfortable level of 10 (15 in total), and the MX Player plays a video series in a loop. Here it turned out to be almost 14 hours (for Vibe P1 - 18 hours). Well, the PCMark synthetic test is 10 hours 27 minutes, which is quite decent. Vibe P1 has 13 hours 25 minutes. Well, here at least it’s not one and a half times less.

In general, the battery life here is not at all record-breaking (especially when wireless types of communication are involved, which, apparently, actively consume the battery), but quite decent. Observations during operation and conclusions During testing, the smartphone behaved quite normally, there were no emergency situations. There are no heating problems here, all systems worked fine. The back cover is quite quick to grip with your fingers, but seems to be scratch-resistant. What are the conclusions? The phone seems to be good, I was especially pleased with the camera, but at this price it has very strong competitors, among which, of course, stands out Lenovo Vibe P1, whose characteristics are noticeably better. However, Philips said that this model should soon become noticeably cheaper, and then, perhaps, it will be able to provide worthy competition. At the moment, it’s not very clear to me in what cases this phone can be preferred to some other models of similar cost.
