  • Weight: 271 g.

Appearance Features

For the manufacture of back cover Aluminum alloy is used, its end parts are edged with white acrylic inserts with a textured surface. Two thin veins are formed from the same plastic, located along the long sides of the case between the display and the back cover.

On the black glass front panel, at the top above the screen, are the speaker and the front camera lens. Present here led indicator, whose task is to report on the battery status and notifications.

The main camera lens is located on top, in the corner of the case, next to the 3.5 mm audio output for the headset. The microphone and Micro-USB connector are allocated space at the bottom end.

The device fits comfortably in the hand, and its light weight (271 g) allows you to work with it for a long time. The location of the mechanical buttons is standard, the key travel is clear and fast. Below are plugs under which the micro SD and Micro-SIM slots are “hidden”. The build quality, as always from Huawei, is excellent - there are no creaks or gaps, and the panel does not bend when compressed.

Screen Specifications

The MediaPad T1 7.0 screen uses an IPS matrix, which guarantees the device high contrast and wide viewing angles. The glass screen with a mirror-smooth surface is scratch-resistant. Although fingerprints quickly appear on it and are not easy to wipe off, a protective film can easily solve the problem.

Automatic adjustment There is no brightness provided here, but when you set the maximum brightness, information can be read without problems in the bright sun, and when set to the minimum value, you can read it comfortably when the lights are off. The device can recognize 5 simultaneous touches.

The resolution, compared to flagship devices, seems small (1024x600), but the density parameter of 177 ppi is almost twice that of desktop monitors, so it is quite convenient to work on it.

Tablet performance and operating system

The device is “managed” by Android 4.4.2 OS. Knowing about the exit new version, this may be considered outdated, but its advantage is compatibility with many applications. A branded shell Emotion UI 3.0 added comfort to users and smoothed out some inconveniences.

The presence of the phone manager in the interface will help you cope with setting up the application, clearing memory and other operations. It can be noted that the numeric keypad can support the Smart Dial function, and the main one will support continuous input; The ability to collapse the touchpad would also be useful.

Among the minuses, the following points are noted: the tablet itself turns on relatively slowly and applications open, and when opening several web pages at once, you can see a second freeze.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chip installed in the tablet contains 4 ARM Cortex A53 cores, thanks to which you can easily watch movies, including Full HD. Since the screen resolution is relatively low, the processor does not have to work particularly hard when generating an image, so all interface elements work smoothly.

This performance is quite acceptable for a budget device - it is enough for standard work and for many large 3D games, and the absence of stutters is pleasing. The memory amounts are as follows: RAM - 1 GB, built-in - 8 GB, almost half of it is used by the shell.

Cameras, connectivity and battery life

This tablet has 2 cameras: front and rear, with the same resolution - 2 megapixels each, but the photos are of low quality. But this smartphone can shoot good video.

The connection quality is quite good, it can work in 2nd and 3rd generation networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and FM radio are available. A nice addition was GPS support - even with a cold start, the location can be determined in less than a minute, and with a hot start, 15 seconds is enough.

The battery capacity of the MediaPad T1 7.0 3G is 3000 mAh. The presence of two modes allows you to rationally use power. Using the “Smart” mode, you can control the processor and network load, while the “Energy Saving” mode will limit the functionality of the device.

As a result, the consumer received a good tablet with an excellent display, a functional interface and a nice design - a nice “work horse” at a price of about 7 thousand rubles.

Hi all!

In general, as such, I didn’t really want a tablet, but something bad happened - my laptop completely broke down: (and my phone is always in the hands of a child.

Buy anyhow new laptop I don’t want it, and the one I like is not affordable for me at a particular moment in time, so in search of a temporary replacement for Internet surfing (watching movies, for Skype, visiting social networks, online toys, listening to music) I decided to buy myself tablet (in the future, give it to the child).

In the end, after reading a lot of reviews, I chose between Samsung and Huawei. I didn’t want to order a tablet because of a “bump”, I would have to wait, so after visiting several offline stores and talking with consultants there, I opted for and purchased the Huawei MediaPad T1 7.0 3G 8G.

If anyone is interested, the purchase cost me 7000 rubles. + I immediately took the case and the film, plus another 2000.

It was all lyrics, and now let's move on to the dry facts.

Tablet diagonal 7 inches, frankly speaking, not big, but just right for me, and in case of urgent need, you can insert a micro-SIM card (there is a connector) and chat like on the phone.

The tablet looks very decent, and I would even say stylish - the back is metal, with a slight matte sheen, which also adds to its presentability (the metal body is an alloy of aluminum and magnesium for greater durability)

- RAM - 1 GB, built-in - 8GB. The memory card is expandable up to 32 GB;

operating system Android 4.4;

Support 3G;

Of course have Google Play - the ability to download and install a huge number of cool and useful free and paid applications;

I liked the system application - weather, a very accurate forecast with a nice animation displaying the weather outside the window.

Quite decent battery capacity - 4100 with energy saving technology Smart Power 2.5. - that is, if you play “easy” online games like angry birds or “ talking tom", then the tablet holds a charge for about 10 hours, watching movies online is about the same. And if you only look at social networks, Instagram and listen to a little music, then 3 days will be enough.

The cameras are quite average - both the main and front ones are 2 megapixels, but it’s quite possible to communicate via Skype.

The tablet is thin and light - 8mm.

I was very pleased with the responsive multi-touch and the screen itself - rich colors, bright and accurate color rendition, wide viewing angle - we watch cartoons together with the child, and looking at the screen from the side you do not experience any inconvenience. Display resolution - 1024x600 pixels.

Inexpensive and with a set of all the necessary, minimal functions - this is how you can characterize the Huawei Media Pad T1 7.0 tablet. Regarding the price-quality ratio, this is one of the most strengths device, and in fact, the cost of the device is only about 6,000 rubles. If we talk about hardware, it is represented by a Spreadtrum SC7731G 1200 MHz processor with 4 cores and 1 GB of RAM. This will obviously not be enough for modern games, but it is enough for surfing the Internet and watching movies. Positive aspects: compact size; reviews; matrix; Ease of use; appearance. Of the minuses: outdated configuration; no support modern functions; cameras. In general, for the stated price, the Huawei Media Pad T1 7.0 is a pretty good device, so we will recommend it

What sets Huawei's new product apart from its competitors is the use of an SoC from a little-known manufacturer. However, it still contains the same low-frequency Cortex-A7 cores, and you shouldn’t expect any surprises.

Design

We got the opportunity to study the tablet long before the premiere on Russian market, so the device was accompanied only by a white envelope. Let's move on to the external inspection.

In terms of its dimensions, the Mediapad T1 7.0 is similar to other ultra-budget models. Reducing the thickness by a millimeter does not change the weather. In general, in the class of seven-inch tablets, devices with a slightly different form factor have recently become popular, with an aspect ratio of 16:9 (for example, Wexler Mobi 7 LTE). They are smaller in width, making them more comfortable to hold in the hand. 1024×600 matrices have a place only in the cheapest devices, and even then, most likely, only due to the attractive price for the manufacturer.

The tablet's only speaker comes out through a small slot above the display. A little to the side is the front camera, and between them is an LED indicator that notifies you of both charging status and notifications.

On the back, the Mediapad T1 7.0 is very similar to the Mediapad X1, which we talked about a year ago: the same metal plate in the middle with rectangular plastic inserts along the edges. But in small details there are discrepancies not in favor of the current hero. The T1 has thin strips of plastic between the metal plate and the display. They are fitted with a different gap on each side, and this, of course, does not add points to Huawei’s score.

The metal plate here, as in other mobile devices, is very sensitive to scratches. And the grip on the palm is also insufficient. In this case, the Mediapad X1 again looks more thoughtful, with its side edges located at right angles to the rear panel. This allows you to hold the device more securely.

The camera lens is located at the top in the corner, and above it to the side is a headset jack. The plastic surfaces have fine texturing, which can be seen in the photo.

Opposite we see a Micro-USB port and a microphone hole.

It would be better to place the mechanical buttons a little lower, but to use them you have to hold the tablet in your palm. No other shortcomings were noticed: the stroke is short and clear, the shape is comfortable.

Hidden under a flap next to the buttons are spring-loaded Micro-SIM and microSD slots with labels and guide icons.

Only fans of light shades can highlight the Mediapad T1 7.0 in the midst of ultra-budget tablets - for devices of this price segment Usually a dark palette is chosen. There are no other significant differences observed here. We would characterize the build quality of the Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 as very good, if not for the notorious gaps on the sides. However, for a budget tablet this is quite forgivable.

Screen

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface that is scratch-resistant. Judging by the brightness of reflected objects, The anti-glare properties of the screen are better than Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photograph in which a white surface is reflected in the switched off screens of both tablets (Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 is on the right, and in all the following comparative photographs the tested tablet is located above the Nexus 7):

The screen of the Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 is slightly darker than that of the Nexus 7 (brightness according to photographs is 101 versus 113 for the Nexus 7) and, judging by the tint of the reflection, equipped with some kind of anti-reflective coating. Tripling reflected objects in Huawei screen Mediapad T1 7.0 is very weak, this indicates that there is no air gap between the outer glass (aka touch sensor) and the surface of the matrix ( OGS type screen - One Glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of boundaries with very different refractive indices (glass/air type), such screens look better in conditions of strong external illumination, but their repair in the case of cracked external glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be replaced. There may be a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating on the outer surface of the screen, but its effectiveness is much worse than that of the Nexus 7, so fingerprints are difficult to remove and appear quickly.

When manually controlling the brightness and displaying the white field on the entire screen, its maximum value was about 420 cd/m², and the minimum - 35 cd/m². The maximum brightness is quite high, and, given the excellent anti-glare properties, readability even on a sunny day outdoors should be at a good level. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. There is no automatic brightness adjustment based on the light sensor. At any brightness level, there is virtually no backlight modulation, so there is no screen flickering.

This tablet uses IPS type matrix. The microphotographs show a typical IPS subpixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of microphotographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without inverting shades and without significant color shift even with large gaze deviations from perpendicular to the screen. For comparison, here are photographs in which the same images are displayed on the screens of the Nexus 7 and the tested tablet, while the brightness of both screens is set to approximately 200 cd/m², and the color balance on the camera is forcibly switched to 6500 K. Test picture perpendicular to the screens:

The color balance is slightly different and the colors on the Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 are less saturated. And a white field:

We note good uniformity of brightness and color tone. Now at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors and brightness balance have not changed much on both tablets, but on the Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 the contrast has decreased to a greater extent due to greater black bleaching and a general decrease in image brightness. Then the white field:

The brightness at an angle for both tablets has noticeably decreased (at least 5 times, based on the difference in shutter speed), but in the case of the Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 the decrease is greater. When deviated diagonally, the black field brightens greatly and acquires a violet or red-violet hue. A photo from the Nexus 7 shows this for comparison (the brightness of the white areas in the perpendicular direction is approximately the same for both tablets!):

And from another angle:

When viewed perpendicularly, the uniformity of the black field is average - there are many illuminated areas along the edge:

Contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is high - approx. 1200:1 . The black-white-black response time is 23 ms (13 ms on + 10 ms off). The transition between halftones of gray 25% and 75% (based on the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 37 ms. The gamma curve, constructed using 32 points with equal intervals based on the numerical value of the shade of gray, did not reveal any blockage in either the highlights or the shadows. The index of the approximating power function is 2.40, which is higher than the standard value of 2.2, that is, the picture is slightly darkened. In this case, the real gamma curve deviates little from the power-law dependence:

Color gamut narrower than sRGB:

Apparently, the matrix’s light filters mix the components with each other. The spectra confirm this:

This technique allows you to increase the brightness of the screen with the same energy consumption for backlighting. As a result, the colors of images - drawings, photographs and films - oriented to the sRGB space (and the vast majority of them) have reduced saturation. The balance of shades on the gray scale is good, since the color temperature is not much higher than the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) is less than or equal to 10, which is considered a good indicator for a consumer device. At the same time, the variation in color temperature and ΔE is small, which has a positive effect on the visual perception of color balance. (Dark areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since there the color balance does not have of great importance, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

Let's summarize. The screen has sufficiently high maximum brightness and has excellent anti-glare properties, so readability even in conditions with very bright external lighting will be more or less acceptable. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable level. The advantages of the screen include the absence of flickering and air gaps in the layers of the screen, high contrast, and good color balance. Significant disadvantages include a weak oleophobic coating (if any), significant unevenness of the black field, low stability of black to the deviation of the gaze from perpendicular to the screen surface, reduced color gamut. Overall the quality is average.

operating system

After several software updates of Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0, which took place after receiving the device, it was fixed on it Android version 4.4.2, dressed in the proprietary Emotion UI 3.0 (under number T1-701uV100R001C001B002). It takes up almost half of the already modest drive, leaving only 4.66 of 8 GB for the user’s needs.

There is still a phone manager available, which allows you to configure the operation of individual applications, clear memory and perform other useful actions for the tablet. There are no gestures in the settings that make it easier to control. Touchpad Android can be minimized at any time. The numeric keyboard supports the Smart Dial function, and the main one supports continuous input.

The operating system, in general, works reliably, but in some cases there is something to complain about: for example, Google Play scrolling is not smooth enough, or loaded web pages are delayed for a split second while drawing pages. Turning on the tablet takes quite a long time, about 45 seconds.

Platform and performance

Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 is equipped with a single-chip system SC8830A manufactured by Spreadtrum. In general, this manufacturer does not often appear in the news - recently, for example, it appeared thanks to the expansion of cooperation with Intel. Specifically, SoC Spreadtrum SC8830A is interesting because it will be used in one of the upcoming Samsung tablets, models SM-T561. So we can evaluate the potential performance of this new product now. The characteristics of the single-chip system are as follows:

  • CPU: 4 cores ARM Cortex-A7 (ARMv7-a) @1.2 GHz
  • Cache: 32/32 KB L1, 512 KB L2
  • GPU: ARM Mali-400 MP2 (OpenGL ES 1.1/2.0)
  • Built-in Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, GPS, FM radio
  • Maximum 3G speed: HSDPA 2.8 Mbps, HSUPA 2.2 Mbps, HSPA+ 4.2 Mbps (download)

Although the characteristics of a single-chip system are very modest, processors of this level are still widely in demand in consumer electronics. The configuration is complemented by 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of permanent memory - a standard configuration for budget devices.

Let's move on to the tests.

In browser tests, the SC8830A stays strictly in the middle, inferior to one or the other single-chip systems, depending on the specific benchmark.

In Antutu, the Huawei tablet is second only to bb-mobile. Spreadtrum SC8830A and Mediatek MT8382 are similar to each other, and the difference in results is mainly due to different memory performance. Although the extra 100 MHz played some role in the victory of the brainchild of the Business Bureau. Note that Mediapad T1 7.0 outperformed all competitors in MobileXPRT - here we must pay tribute to the Emotion UI programmers.

According to the results of gaming tests, the Spreadtrum SC8830A is approximately on par with budget Mediatek SoCs. The more powerful Snapdragon 200 stays ahead. The dual-core old Mali-400 in this case, of course, loses to the Adreno 302.

The performance of Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0, in general, met our expectations, and in some places even exceeded them (remember the MobileXPRT results). Let's see how things are with real games.

Modern Combat 5: Blackoutslows down slightly
Call of Duty: Strike Teamslows down slightly
Asphalt 8: Take Offworks fine
N.O.V.A. 3slows down slightly
Dead Trigger 2works fine,
medium settings
GTA: San Andreasworks fine,
high settings
Need for Speed:No Limitsslows down occasionally
Assassin's Creed: Piratesworks fine
Deux Ex: The Fallworks with artifacts
World of Tanks: Blitznot enough permanent memory

Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 runs our test suite with varying degrees of success. Less than half of the games work without any problems. Deus Ex instead simply replaces some parts of the landscape with black holes, and World of Tanks doesn't find enough internal storage space to load the necessary game files from the app (it requires an additional 1.6GB).

Video playback test

We did not find the MHL interface or Mobility DisplayPort in this tablet, so we had to limit ourselves to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself. To do this, we used a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see “Method for testing video playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)”). Screenshots with a shutter speed of 1 s helped determine the nature of the output of frames of video files with various parameters: the resolution varied (1280 by 720 (720p) and 1920 by 1080 (1080p) pixels) and frame rate (24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 frames/ With). In the tests we used the MX Player video player in the “Hardware” mode. The test results are summarized in the table:

FileUniformityPasses
1080/60pnot playable
1080/50pnot playable
1080/30pBadlya lot of
1080/25pFineNo
1080/24pFinefew
720/60pBadlya lot of
720/50pBadlya lot of
720/30pGreatNo
720/25pFineNo
720/24pFineNo

Note: If in both columns Uniformity And Passes Green ratings are given, this means that, most likely, when watching films, artifacts caused by uneven alternation and frame skipping will either not be visible at all, or their number and visibility will not affect the viewing comfort. Red marks indicate possible problems related to the playback of the corresponding files.

In terms of frame output, the quality of playback of video files on the screen of the tablet itself is low. However, if we limit ourselves to the resolution appropriate for this screen and the frame rate typical for movies and TV series, then everything is not so bad. When playing video files with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 (1080p) on the tablet screen, the image of the video file itself is displayed exactly along the wide border of the screen. The brightness range displayed on the screen corresponds to the standard range of 16-235 - all shade gradations are displayed in shadows and highlights - which is what is required for correct playback of typical video files.

The capabilities of the standard player are standard: it does not process AC3 audio and does not see subtitles.

Wireless network support

Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 works in mobile networks second and third generations. There is no talk of LTE support, moreover, even new Bluetooth versions not here - the SoC capabilities are only enough for 2.1 + EDR. In addition, there is single-band Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n. You can use your tablet to make calls and send SMS. The quality of voice communication is decent; problems may arise only with the perception of the interlocutor in a noisy room

The navigation module exclusively supports GPS. With a “cold start”, determining the location takes less than a minute. Connecting USB drives via OTG is supported: the copying speed both from a flash drive and in the opposite direction is approximately 6.82 MB/s.

Cameras

Both tablet cameras have the same resolution - 2 megapixels. Commented on their work Anton Soloviev.

The sky ripples a little - you can feel the noise reduction at low resolution.

The large noise reduction grain and colored noise in the branches evoke nostalgia for the first phone cameras.

The sharpness cannot be called bad, but such a resolution does not allow us to talk about it at all.

At the edges of the frame there is a whole bunch of problems of a cheap camera.

The text is difficult for the camera to read, but it can be read if necessary.

The camera can't handle macro photography.

Despite the fact that the front and rear camera modules are almost the same, the front optics are slightly worse, which is quite logical. Much more strange is the difference in the software processing of the cameras, despite the fact that the program in both is the same, according to EXIF.

Front-camera

Rear camera

Unfortunately, the manufacturer installed the camera just for show and didn’t even bother to really work on it. However, here he can be understood: if you have already decided not to pay attention to the camera, then you need to go to the end and not bother with it software. And in the end we have a completely banal 2-megapixel camera module on both sides, the presence of which can only be remembered as a last resort. And it is possible that in some situations he will cope with the task.

Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 can also shoot 720p video (MPEG-4 (Base Media), 1280×720, 6242 Kbps, 23.525 fps; audio: AAC (LC), 96 Kbps, 44.1 kHz, 1 channel ). Considering the quality of the photo, the video turns out to be quite passable.

Autonomous operation

The Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 has a 3000 mAh battery, which is quite small compared to its competitors.

The battery power is consumed evenly, judging by the OS readings. There are two energy saving modes in the settings - “Energy Saving”, which limits the functionality of the device, and “Smart”, which controls the load on the processor and network. We used smart mode in reading scripts and videos.

The Mediapad with the Spreadtrum single-chip system performed excellently when watching video, significantly outperforming its competitors even with a more capacious battery. And in reading mode it was inferior only to the most “charged” of them. But the SC8830A is not suitable for games; here Mediatek solutions show themselves better. However, given the relevance of the scenarios, we are confident that this benefit is unlikely to be used. Huawei Mediapad T1 7.0 arrived to us for testing without charger, so we did not measure the charge recovery time.

conclusions

In Mediapad T1 7.0, Huawei chose more powerful processor better display, and possible problems were negated by the efforts of the Emotion UI developers. The result is a balanced device, all of whose shortcomings stem from high expectations from the budget segment, the “mandatory program” of which does not include either “gaming” performance or good camera, nor support for the latest wireless network standards.

Comparably priced alternatives are available on the Russian market local brands, and some of them will, of course, be more attractive. However, Huawei should be praised for the fact that such a large company, under the guise of an ultra-budget device, does not offer a craft that can be difficult to use.
