When using an Android smartphone, files inevitably accumulate in its memory. Over time, there are so many of these files that they take up all the free space and the user is faced with a lack of free space when installing applications or downloading new files.

This problem can be partially solved by moving files to a memory card. User files such as photos and videos can be painlessly transferred to a memory card and thereby free up some space in the internal memory of the smartphone.

In order to move files from internal memory to a memory card, you must first install a file manager. Any file manager will be suitable for this task, but it is better to choose one that clearly identifies the device’s internal memory and memory card. For example, such a function is available in the application.

Install this file manager and launch it on your Android smartphone. Once launched, you will see two folders: “Device” and “SD Card”. The “Device” folder is the internal memory of your Android smartphone. Open this folder and find the files there that you would like to move to the SD memory card.

Let's say you find a file that you want to move to your memory card.

In order to perform the file transfer operation, you need to check the box next to the desired file and click on the “Move” button, which is located in the lower left corner of the screen.

After this, the “Cancel” and “Paste” buttons will appear at the bottom of the screen. The “Cancel” button cancels the transfer of files, and the “Insert” button transfers the previously selected files to the folder that is currently open.

Now you need to click on the “Home” button in the upper left corner of the program. This will take you to the initial screen of the file manager.

Then you need to go to the SD memory card. To do this, click on the “SD card” folder.

After this, on the memory card you need to open the folder into which you want to move the files and click on the “Insert” button.

After this, the selected files will be moved from the internal memory of the smartphone to the SD memory card.

A phone memory card is the best expansion option for installing and storing files. There are several ways to transfer utilities, music, games and photos to the SD card of Samsung devices and more.

Below I will show you a few methods that I personally use. You can take them into service!

File manager

Use File Explorer or similar from Google Play to gain access to information stored on the Android device.

1. Find the files you want to move;
2. Mark the desired objects, go to the menu, select Move;
3. Specify the future location of the files on the SD card;

You can move the files to an existing folder or create a new one.

Transferring applications to an SD card

Photos and music are copied easily, with applications on Android devices everything is much simpler than it seems:

• Open “Settings”, “Applications” section, “Management” item;
• Find the software you need (game or program);
• See if it's possible to move it to SD;

Samsung and other Android devices allow you to move some applications - if this is allowed, the “To memory card” button will be active. All you have to do is press it, the bulk of the data will be transferred to the SD card, a smaller part will remain in the device’s memory, freeing up space.

Wait until the end, the reverse operation may be performed!

How to transfer cache to memory card on Android?

The cache takes up a lot of space; in some cases it is easier to move its files to a memory card. Download the FolderMount program (does not work without root rights).

Having root will make it possible to use the program:

1. Click the "+" icon;
2. Enter the name of the file, in the “Source” field - the location of the cache folder;
3. Fill out the “Destination” field by entering the address of the SD folder;
4. Click the checkmark at the top and the pin symbol next to the name;

The pin will turn green once the cache transfer is complete!

Protected Applications

Some applications are protected from being copied to a memory card; it is impossible to transfer them without root rights. You will need to download the free program Link2SD, install, launch and find the necessary software.

Two buttons will appear in front of you: “Actions” and “Transfer to SD card”. Click the second one, confirm the action by clicking “OK”. Confirmation of superuser rights will be required: select “Allow” and wait until the transfer is completed.

In addition to the above-mentioned programs and standard tools for devices running Android, there is a large amount of software that allows you to transfer files to a memory card.

Carefully read the description of such software to find out in more detail the possibility of working without root rights, the range of functions and other features. Store files on a flash drive, freeing up space on the Samsung device itself for optimal performance!

The internal memory on your device may not be enough for all the applications you need. Modern programs and especially games can be very voluminous. This problem can be resolved by moving them to an SD card.

But there are also pitfalls. Cards are slower than internal memory. Therefore, games and other resource-intensive applications may slow down after transfer. To reduce performance loss, preferably with a minimum speed of 10 MB/s. The higher the better.

In addition, moved applications will stop working as soon as you remove the memory card. And when you insert it back, it is possible that some of them will begin to glitch and produce errors.

So, it's worth moving apps if you're willing to sacrifice speed and stability for free space.

Will you be able to transfer applications to a memory card?

It is important to understand that not all devices provide this opportunity. There is no list of models that support transfer. To find out if your device is one of them, you just need to try moving applications to the card. This process is reversible and uncomplicated.

In addition, even if yours allows you to transfer, you will not be able to do this with all applications. Some games and programs only allow part of their data to be transferred to the card, and many do not support transfer at all.

How to move apps to an SD card

Although the process of moving games and programs on different firmware is slightly different, the procedure is similar everywhere. This generalized instruction should suit everyone.

Manually

First, make sure that the memory card is inserted into the device. Then open Android settings and select the Applications section. In the list of games and programs, click on the one you want to transfer to the card.

When the menu of the selected application appears on the screen, find the navigation button and use it. After the transfer, in the same menu you can return the application back to the internal memory.

If the button is missing or not clickable, the program may not support movement. Repeat these steps with other games and applications. If you can't transfer anything, the option is likely not available on your device.

Automatically

Some devices running Android 6 or later OS versions allow you to use the card as part of the internal memory. This option allows you to transfer all applications at once.

To make the card work as part of the internal storage, go to settings and open the section dedicated to memory management. Find the SD card menu in it. Use the “Format” command, select the “As internal storage” option and follow the system prompts. If this option is not available, this feature is not available on your device.

Formatting will erase all data from the card. After this, it cannot be used on other devices until you format it again.

Then confirm the transfer of applications to the card. From this moment on, the device will begin to perceive it as part of the internal storage, transfer old applications and install new ones on the card.

To return the program back to the device’s memory, you need to use the “Format” command again, selecting the “As portable storage” option. Before formatting, the system will prompt you to transfer applications to internal memory.

Using third party programs

If your device does not support any of the listed methods, but it is unlocked, you can try to transfer applications using third-party programs. For these purposes, there are, for example, utilities Link2SD and App2SD. But even their creators do not guarantee the performance and stability of this method. So be careful.

When there is not much space left in the smartphone, many users think about transferring applications and games to a memory card, since almost every Samsung Galaxy gadget has one.

Often, owners of Android smartphones are faced with the fact that the internal memory of the device is full to capacity, and therefore it is not possible to install a new application. To answer the question of how to transfer applications to a memory card, we have prepared this material.

Longtime fans of Android OS know that starting from Android 2.2 and up to Android 4.4, there was a function for transferring applications to a memory card. Some firmware still have it, so first of all we recommend trying the following method.

Internal capabilities of Android OS

Go to “Settings” and select “Applications”. Having selected the software you plan to transfer, open its settings window and select “Transfer to SD card” from the menu. We remind you that almost all developers guarantee the stable operation of their product only if it is installed on an internal drive.

Another option is available starting from Android 6.0. You can use the SD card as part of the internal storage using the Adoptable Storage feature. The system will format and encrypt the flash drive, making it impossible to use the card outside of your smartphone.

Activation of the Adoptable storage function occurs as follows: in the smartphone settings, select the “Memory” section, then click on the SD card and with a long tap go to its “Settings”, then select “Format as internal memory” and “Erase & Format”.

After completing these steps, you should select the “Use as internal storage” option, and then restart your smartphone. After this, an additional “Memory” tab will appear in the application menu, with which you can transfer it to an SD card. If these methods are not available in your firmware, and the desired application cannot be transferred, then you should turn to special applications.

Software

« Move to SDCard» is the simplest program designed for transferring applications. By selecting “Move to memory card” in the menu, find the desired application, click on it and click “Move”. Also among the program's functions you will find the ability to delete applications and manage APK files, that is, install applications from third-party sources.

If you have root rights, you can use this application to clean your smartphone of pre-installed junk. The program is free, but if you are annoyed by advertising inside the application, you will have to pay 67 rubles for its disappearance.

AppMgr III

A more advanced tool that allows, in addition to the banal transfer of applications, to also perform any manipulations with them. The transfer works exactly according to the same scheme as in the previous application, so let’s dwell on its other features. AppMgr III can delete or hide an app, open its Google Play page, go to its Android settings, or clear its cache.

Using root rights, you can significantly expand the functionality - delete applications without confirmation, freeze them, and automatically transfer applications to a memory card after installation. The full version of the program, which allows you to install the program widget, update modules hourly, and so on, costs 179 rubles.

Link2SD

And here is a full-featured manager for advanced users. Let’s immediately make a reservation that the application requires root rights and configuration, and therefore for a one-time transfer of the application you can use a less labor-intensive option.

First, you need to create a hidden area on the memory card in the ext3/ext4 file system. The application uses this area as an emulator of the phone's internal memory. This can be done using the Android axis itself via Recovery, or using third-party applications for Windows.

In the first case, the route is as follows:

Switch to Recovery mode. Depending on the smartphone, this can be achieved using the following methods:

• press the volume and power buttons at the same time;
• press the power button, and immediately after - the volume button;
• Press the volume, power and home buttons at the same time.

1. Once in Recovery, select Advanced and click Partition SD Card.
2. Select the ext3 file system and specify the size, for example 1024 megabytes. We set the size of the paging file to zero; it is already present in the system.
3. We reboot the smartphone, after the reboot the memory card should decrease by the size of the hidden partition.

Another method for those who do not want to experiment with Recovery is to create a partition using EaseUS Partition Master. After installing this utility on your home PC, connect an SD card to it.

Having found the desired drive in the main window of the program, click on its partitions and click “Delete Partion”. When we have the only partition left with the Unallocated file system, select the reverse action - “Create Partition” and select ext3 as the file system type. Now we have a hidden section at our disposal.

Working with Link2SD

After creating a hidden partition, you should grant the application root rights and restart your smartphone. Transferring an application to a memory card is now done in two ways:

• create shortcuts on the desktop;
• open the settings page in Android;
