Smart Box Beeline is a router with Wi-Fi support, which is produced in Taiwan by Sercomm for Beeline. This device has support for wired multicast IPTV and the option network storage. Having such a device at home, you can use the Internet on 10 devices simultaneously, without losing the quality and speed of the signal. You can create a closed network and organize a reliably secure Internet connection.

The technical characteristics of the Beeline Smart Box model are quite impressive:

• This is a Wi-Fi router operating according to the 802.11b/g/n standard;

Connecting the device

To connect the Beeline Smart Box Wi-Fi router you need to decide what kind of connection you want to establish:

• Wired;
• Via Wi-Fi.

The first option is more convenient to use for the initial connection. To do this, install the cable that the Beeline operator brought into your apartment into the outermost socket of the router marked “WAN”. After this, use a fiber optic cable (patch cord) to connect the router to your computer: one end of the cord must be installed in one of the four connectors of the router marked LAN, the other end in network card PC.

Setup process

For home internet:

• Login is the number of your agreement with the provider;
• Password is a combination for Internet access determined by the provider.

for the router's Wi-Fi network:

• Network name – come up with a name for your Wi-Fi connection (SSID);
• Password – create a secret code for logging into the Wi-Fi network (from 8 characters).

for a guest Wi-Fi network (optional):

• Set the same parameters for the guest wireless network your router.

for the Beeline TV service (optional):

• These are the television settings (here you will indicate the number of the LAN connector into which you will connect the TV receiver).

Save the entered data and wait for the equipment to apply the new settings to its operation. That's the whole process of setting up a router, now you have Internet in your home.

Now let's get acquainted with the instructions for setting up a Wi-Fi network on the Beeline Smart Box router:

1. In the address bar of your browser, enter the IP address of your device – “192.168.1.1”.
2. In the menu that opens, select "Advanced settings".
3. Find the tab at the top of the window "Wi-Fi" and go to this menu.
4. In the navigation list, select Slava. "Main parameters".
5. Opposite the line “Enable wireless network (Wi-Fi)” there should be a checkbox.
6. Below you can make any changes to the main parameters of the router’s wireless network (operating mode, select a separate channel number, disable the guest Wi-Fi network).

Save all changes made and go to the next section of the “Wi-Fi” tab – "Safety". At this stage, you can set the most secure encryption type: set the authentication value to WPA2-PSK. Save these changes and restart the program.

Please note that if your apartment has devices that do not support the WPA2 wireless device certification program, then it is better to leave the authentication value at the default - WPA-PSK.

WPA is the 802.1X standard, and WPA2 technology is referred to as the IEEE 802.11i standard. Since 2006 everything Wi-Fi devices are released with WPA2 support.

Firmware for Smart Box

Smart Box is a device that runs on its own software, so it is very important that its firmware is always up to date. You can find out the latest firmware version and download it from this official website of the operator.

To download the update, you will need to complete just five steps:

1. In the address bar of your web browser, type the IP address of your router - “192.168.1.1”.
2. Go to the menu "Advanced settings".

4. Specify the path where the file with new firmware, and press the button "Perform update".
5. Wait until the download procedure completes and the equipment automatically reboots.

Login to the configurator interface:

Basic setup of Smart Box

In the “Login” and “Password” fields you must enter data for authorization in Beeline billing. The account number is used as a login in our area. I think that this is how it is organized in other areas.
In the “Network name” field, you need to come up with and enter the name of your home network Wi-Fi on Smart Box. In the “Password” field, you also need to enter a key phrase that the router will request when connecting to its Wi-Fi.
If you have also connected Beeline television, then in the very bottom section of the menu, called “Beeline TV”, you should mark the LAN port into which the set-top box will be connected. Click on the “Save” button.

Smart Box firmware

To initially set the router parameters, do the following:

• Select the Quick Setup menu.
• In the window that appears, in the “Home Internet” fields, you should enter the login and key issued to you by your provider (you will find this information in the contract).
• In the menu bars " Wi-Fi Network router”, come up with a name for your home network and set an Internet access password so that the connection is inaccessible to.
• You can activate the “Guest Network” section as you wish. If you want to create a separate network based on your router for your friends and acquaintances, come up with a name and access key for it.

Configuring Wi-Fi Settings

If you want to change the Internet settings from Beeline, go to the router menu and follow these steps:

• Select “Advanced settings” and open the Wi-Fi section, select the main settings tab on the left.
• The network SSID string is the name of the connection itself, which you change at your discretion.
• You can change the operating mode and channel. It is worth setting automatic detection for the second function, then the router will be able to determine which channel to connect to. What is it for? If your neighbors also have a router installed and your device operates on the same channel, the connection may not be efficient enough. When choosing automatic mode The router will automatically switch to a less busy channel.
• In the same smart box menu, you can disable the guest network by checking the corresponding line (don’t forget to save changes).

However, as an enthusiast I lacked freedom, SSH and the ability to dig deeper inside, as well as the ability to fine-tune. That’s why I started looking for alternative firmware for the “smart box” and soon realized that there are none and there won’t be any in the near future...
Well, the situation is unpleasant, but not hopeless. 🙂
Since there are no alternatives, you need to get the most out of the stock one, if possible getting a normal console and raising the privileges to root. And to do this you need to merge and unpack the stock firmware.

During the operation of the Smart-Box router, users need to reconfigure the equipment, which requires entering an individual login and password. But what to do if the router password is irretrievably forgotten or lost and cannot be recovered?

In this case, you can unlock the Beeline Smart-Box router by resetting the settings and then entering your credentials and password, among other things.

What to do if you forgot the password for the Smart-Box router?

To unlock the Smart Box router if the password is lost or forgotten, you need to change it. With the current settings, it is no longer possible to change the password. You need to perform a factory reset and then enter the required data following the recommendations below.

1. Check that the computer's network cable is connected to one of the LAN ports located on the device.
2. The cable that is routed into the apartment must be connected to the “WAN” port.
3. Press the “Reset” button located on the router body.
4. On your computer, open your existing Internet browser and enter the following combination in the address bar - 192.168.1.1. The welcome management page will open. wi-fi router. Click on the “Continue” button on the screen.
5. On the “Start over” page that opens, you must enter the standard login and password. Enter the word admin in both lines and click Continue.
6. In the menu that appears, select the section “Quick setup”.
7. Here you need to fill out several subsections described below.

In the “Home Internet” field, enter your new username and password. Other Beeline home Internet settings are already embedded in the device’s memory and do not require adjustment.

In the “Wi-Fi network of the router” subsection, you need to come up with the name of your home wireless network and a password to access it (at least 8 characters).

“Guest Wi-Fi network” has similar characteristics to a home network; here you also need to enter a name and come up with a password.

In the “Beeline TV” field you need to select a port to connect the set-top box. This option is relevant if, in addition to home Internet, you also use Beeline television. You only need to fill out this subsection when connecting a TV cable to the Smart-Box router. Select the number of the port to which the cable going to the set-top box is connected.

After completing all the necessary settings, click “Save”.

Saving the settings will take certain time, usually about 1 minute.

Having made an Internet connection, the router will start working, and the message “Internet connected” will appear on the screen.

Reset Beeline Smart Box router

In order to reset the router, you need to find the “Reset” button on the side where the cable connection ports are located. It must be pressed using a match or a toothpick (do not use sharp objects such as a needle, you may damage the button). The button must be pressed for 10-15 seconds until the indicators on the front side of the device blink. After this, the router will boot from standard settings and will be completely ready to configure according to the instructions above.

Don’t forget to write down your new login and password so that in the future you can quickly make the necessary changes to the settings without resetting the router!
