Beeline smart box one alternative firmware. How to set up a Beeline Smart Box router: detailed instructions Smartbox pro firmware

Beeline (formerly Bee Line GSM) is a well-known telecommunications brand, which is the third largest operator in Russia wireless communication and the second – for the supply of general telecommunications services. For more than 20 years, the company has been successfully operating not only in Russia, but also far beyond its borders: Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Vietnam, Laos and Australia - these countries also have numerous Beeline subscribers.

Beeline is not only a supplier of high-quality cellular communications, but also high-speed Internet for smartphones, tablets, computers and others smart gadgets. Internet speed is constantly increasing and since 2013 it has reached completely new level. Such services now require more powerful equipment.

Beeline Smartbox is a branded device that will allow you to connect several computers, mobile devices and even SMART TVs into a single local network and provide them with Internet access. In this article we will get acquainted with setting up a Smart Box router from TM Beeline.

Smart Box Beeline is a router with Wi-Fi support, which is produced in Taiwan by Sercomm for Beeline. This device has support for wired multicast IPTV and the option network storage. Having such a device at home, you can use the Internet on 10 devices simultaneously, without losing the quality and speed of the signal. You can create a closed network and organize a reliably secure Internet connection.

The technical characteristics of the Beeline Smart Box model are quite impressive:

  • This is a Wi-Fi router operating according to the 802.11b/g/n standard;
  • Signal transmission speed – up to 300 Mbit/s;
  • Reference board – Realtek 8197D;
  • Operating modes – DHCP client, static IP, L2TP, IPoE;
  • 1 USB port – version 2.0;
  • LAN connectors – 4 pieces;
  • Current version software: 2.0.19 (14MB).

Smart Box Beeline routers have a USB port, which means that you can connect to it external drives and provide general access to them in their own way local network.

Today Beeline offers its users four models of Smart Box wireless routers:

  • Dual-band SmartBox TURBO+ (3.6 thousand rubles);
  • Dual-band SmartBox ONE (2.5 thousand rubles);
  • 5GHz SmartBox PRO (5.9 thousand rubles);
  • 2.4GHz Beeline SmartBox (2.5 thousand rubles).

Connecting the device

To connect the Beeline Smart Box Wi-Fi router you need to decide what kind of connection you want to establish:

  • Wired;
  • Via Wi-Fi.

The first option is more convenient to use for the initial connection. To do this, install the cable that the Beeline operator brought into your apartment into the outermost socket of the router marked “WAN”. After this, use a fiber optic cable (patch cord) to connect the router to your computer: one end of the cord must be installed in one of the four connectors of the router marked LAN, the other end in network card PC.

To configure the router to work via Wi-Fi, you will only need to connect the router to the provider’s cable (via the WAN connector) and start searching for new equipment on your computer.

Setup process

We will configure Smart Box through a web browser on a computer. After connecting all the cables, turn on the computer, launch the browser and address bar dial the combination “192.168.1.1”. This is the IP address of your device on the local network. You can see this data on the back wall of your Wi-Fi router. It also contains the username and password, which we will also need for further setup.

When you log into the configurator for the first time, you will see a welcome window. Click the button "Continue", and a new window will open in front of you, in which you will need to enter your username and password. By default, all Beeline subscribers have admin/admin.

Now you need to activate the menu button « Quick setup» . The setup form is quite simple; each section has its own tips, but even without them everything is intuitive. Here you will need to enter the following data:

For home internet:

  • Login is the number of your agreement with the provider;
  • Password is a combination for Internet access determined by the provider.

for the router's Wi-Fi network:

  • Network name – come up with a name for your Wi-Fi connection (SSID);
  • Password – create a secret code for logging into the Wi-Fi network (from 8 characters).

for a guest Wi-Fi network (optional):

for the Beeline TV service (optional):

  • These are the television settings (here you will indicate the number of the LAN connector into which you will connect the TV receiver).

Save the entered data and wait for the equipment to apply the new settings to its operation. That's the whole process of setting up a router, now you have Internet in your home.

If you don't want the wires to spoil appearance your home, you can install wireless connection, but for this, your PC or laptop must have a built-in or separately purchased Wi-Fi adapter:

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi function on your laptop (or PC).
  2. Open menu "Control Panel".
  3. Find the item in it "Network connections".
  4. Go to the section "Wireless network connection» and select the network you want to connect to.

Today, all new routers can operate in two frequency modes:

  • At 2.4 GHz;
  • At 5 GHz.

The first option is more common, but many devices operate at this frequency, so there may be interference in the network. Almost no one uses the 5 GHz frequency; it has a slightly shorter range, but the signal purity and speed are higher .

After you have selected the desired channel, you will only need to enter your username and password for the secure Wi-Fi network and save all changes made.

The operator’s website has three special detailed instructions for connecting a computer, mobile devices or SmartTV to the router’s Wi-Fi network - https://moskva.beeline.ru/customers/help/home/domashniy-internet/instrukcii-dlya-mob- ustroistv/

Now let's get acquainted with the instructions for setting up a Wi-Fi network on the Beeline Smart Box router:

  1. In the address bar of your browser, enter the IP address of your device – “192.168.1.1”.
  2. In the menu that opens, select "Advanced settings".
  3. Find the tab at the top of the window "Wi-Fi" and go to this menu.
  4. In the navigation list, select Slava. "Main parameters".
  5. Opposite the line “Enable wireless network (Wi-Fi)” there should be a checkbox.
  6. Below you can make any changes to the main parameters of the router’s wireless network (operating mode, select a separate channel number, disable the guest Wi-Fi network).

Save all changes made and go to the next section of the “Wi-Fi” tab – "Safety". At this stage, you can set the most secure encryption type: set the authentication value to WPA2-PSK. Save these changes and restart the program.

Please note that if your apartment has devices that do not support the WPA2 wireless device certification program, then it is better to leave the authentication value at the default - WPA-PSK.

WPA is the 802.1X standard, and WPA2 technology is referred to as the IEEE 802.11i standard. Since 2006 everything Wi-Fi devices are released with WPA2 support.

Firmware for Smart Box

Smart Box is a device that runs on its own software, so it is very important that its firmware is always up to date. You can find out the latest firmware version and download it from this official website of the operator.

To download the update, you will need to complete just five steps:

  1. In the address bar of your web browser, type the IP address of your router - “192.168.1.1”.
  2. Go to the menu "Advanced settings".
  3. Find the tab at the top of the window "Other", and in the navigation menu on the left there is a section "Update".
  4. Specify the path where the file with new firmware, and press the button "Perform update".
  5. Wait until the download procedure completes and the equipment automatically reboots.

Starting with firmware version “2.0.25”, smartboxes have the ability to work with 3G modems in Wi-Fi mode.

The Smart Box Beeline router can also work with other Internet providers. If new operator provides Internet network services using the DHCP dynamic configuration protocol or uses network protocol PPPoE link layer, equipment settings can be easily changed in the user account.

Note.

In our city, the Internet provider Beeline began connecting subscribers via so-called “fiber to the home” - FTTB - in parallel with Rostelecom. Dom.ru didn’t even exist then. At first, different models of WiFi routers were offered, flashed with proprietary firmware - D-Link DIR-300, TrendNet, NetGear, etc. Then came new model, which gradually replaced the others - this is the Smart Box router. As it turned out later, this is actually the only good branded router not only from Beeline, but also among competing providers.
Setting up Smart Box yourself is very simple and there is no need to call a specialist. Now I will tell you how to do this.

Login to the configurator interface:

IP address of the device on the local network (), as well as login and password to enter the configurator ( admin/admin) can be found on the sticker located on the bottom of the case:

After that, open the web browser and enter the address - http://192.168.1.1. Press the Enter key and see this greeting.

Click on the “Continue” button and see this authorization form:

Enter the login admin, password admin and get to the start menu for setting up the Smart Box from Beeline.

Basic setup of Smart Box

In the start menu we need to call the configuration wizard, for which we click on the “Quick setup” button:

This will take you to a page where all the necessary parameters are collected. Honestly, as far as I remember, this was done by Dom.ru. On devices from Rostelecom and TTK, everything is much more complicated and confusing for an untrained user.

In the “Login” and “Password” fields you must enter data for authorization in Beeline billing. The account number is used as a login in our area. I think that this is how it is organized in other areas.
In the “Network name” field, you need to come up with and enter the name of your home network Wi-Fi on Smart Box. In the “Password” field, you also need to enter a key phrase that the router will request when connecting to its Wi-Fi.
If you have also connected Beeline television, then in the very bottom section of the menu, called “Beeline TV”, you should mark the LAN port into which the set-top box will be connected. Click on the “Save” button.
That's all. You can check the operation of the device!

If something is unclear, watch the video instructions.

Smart Box firmware

As with any other router, you need to periodically update the firmware on the Beeline Smart Box to a more recent one. This measure is necessary, since new firmware versions fix problems that were present in previous ones. You can download the latest version on the official Beeline website - link.

In order to reflash the Smart Box router, you need to click on the “Advanced settings” button in the start menu:

In the window that appears, you need to open the menu section Other >>> Software update:

Click on the “Select file” button, find and feed the firmware file to Smartbox. Now you need to click the “Update” button. The following image will appear:

After the process is completed, the router will reboot itself. The settings are usually not reset. But even if they reset, don’t be alarmed, following the instructions above you can set everything up yourself without any problems!

Working with other providers

Nowadays, switching from one telecom operator to another is a completely common procedure. Everyone is looking for a cheaper tariff, higher speed, and better conditions. This is understandable and quite normal. The Smart Box router is locked to Beeline. But if you have a Superuser password, then you can configure it for other providers. And at the same time, everything is done using standard software and no alternative firmware not required. User login with elevated rights is SuperUser. The password for firmware up to and including version 2.0.24 is Beeline$martB0x. After version 2.0.25, the superadmin password was changed. Now used in this capacity serial number devices of the type SF*********. You can see it on the sticker. For example, on my device it is like this - SF13F4FF1F78.
Next we open Advanced settings >> Other >> WAN. Smartbox works without problems with almost any other provider. Here is an example of its configuration under Rostelecom and Dom.ru:

The router supports virtual networks VLAN, which means there will be no problems with interactive TV from Rostelecom, TTK, and Dom.ru!

Many Beeline customers know about the release of the Smart Box Wi-Fi router and purchased it to use the Internet and interactive television. This device is positioned as a modem for fast wireless internet and meets all current standards to ensure high connection speeds.

The Beeline company issues devices for its customers

What is remarkable about Smart Box from Beeline? It is worth saying that the router is really good in terms of internal content - it supports speeds of up to 300 Mbit/s, has a fairly capacious RAM and outperforms other models in performance. The router has additional port USB format, and the only relative drawback of its design is the built-in antennas, which, however, provide a large signal coverage area.

To initially set the router parameters, do the following:

  • Open the Smart Box menu - enter the device’s IP address (192.168.1.1.) in the browser’s address bar, and after the welcome message, click “Continue.”
  • In the login window, enter Admin in both lines. This data is standard; during subsequent setup, you can change it to protect the equipment parameters from outside interference.
  • Select the Quick Setup menu.
  • In the window that appears, in the “Home Internet” fields, you should enter the login and key issued to you by your provider (you will find this information in the contract).
  • In the menu bars " Wi-Fi Network router”, come up with a name for your home network and set an Internet access password so that the connection is inaccessible to.
  • You can activate the “Guest Network” section as you wish. If you want to create a separate network based on your router for your friends and acquaintances, come up with a name and access key for it.
  • Since the router has 4 LAN connectors, select in the bottom line the one to which you will connect the IPTV interactive television set-top box.

After entering all the necessary data, reboot the equipment from Beeline - the corresponding command will appear when you save the changes.

Configuring Wi-Fi Settings

If you want to change the Internet settings from Beeline, go to the router menu and follow these steps:

  • Select “Advanced settings” and open the Wi-Fi section, select the main settings tab on the left.
  • The network SSID string is the name of the connection itself, which you change at your discretion.
  • You can change the operating mode and channel. It is worth setting automatic detection for the second function, then the router will be able to determine which channel to connect to. What is it for? If your neighbors also have a router installed and your device operates on the same channel, the connection may not be efficient enough. When choosing automatic mode The router will automatically switch to a less busy channel.
  • In the same smart box menu, you can disable the guest network by checking the corresponding line (don’t forget to save changes).

Internet Connection Security

To protect your connection from unauthorized access, it is not enough just good password- it is worth choosing a reliable encryption type for Smart Box. This is done like this:

  • In the advanced settings, Wi-Fi section, select the “Security” tab in the left menu.
  • In the “Authentication” line, select the encryption type WPA2-PSK.
  • In the same window below you can change the access key to connect to the network.

Software update

Each router has separate firmware, which is constantly being refined and improved to make the device’s operation even more efficient, fast and uninterrupted. Therefore, you should update the firmware of your Wi-Fi equipment from time to time, which you can do as follows:

  • Download the new firmware from the official website of the Beeline provider.
  • We go to the initial menu of the router and select “Advanced settings”.
  • Open the “Others” section and click on the software update line.
  • Select "Select file" and specify the path to the downloaded firmware.
  • The router will automatically update the software, after which you need to reboot it - disconnect and reconnect it to the power supply.

Port forwarding

Often, if you want to use a torrent client to download files or play in online applications when help Smart Box, you need to forward the port, that is, open it for the above purposes. How to do it?

This is all quite simple and will take a little time, just follow these directions:

  • Select “Advanced settings” again in the Wi-Fi router menu, “Other” section.
  • In the left menu, select the NAT, Application Support tab.
  • In the window that appears, you can select an application from the list or set your own value, for which you need to click on the “Set user service” button.
  • If you are defining your service, enter the application name, select the protocol type and the desired port range in the next two lines.

Don't forget to save all changes! If, after completing these steps, torrenting or playing games are still unavailable, try selecting the DMZ Host line in the NAT tab - enter the IP address of your computer from which you are opening the port. Did not help? In this case, the problem lies not in the router, but in the PC security settings.

As you can see, setting up Smart Box from Beeline is quite simple and will allow any user to quickly and easily start using the device. Thanks to the services of the provider and a powerful router, you can use wireless Internet access with high speed, stable operation and strong signal.

Greetings, friends.
There is probably no person who has not heard about the Beeline company and their Internet of the same name. Like any “serious” provider, Beeline really likes to install branded routers.

The advantages are obvious: ease of setup and operation, as well as user support - the hardware is the same and possible problems have been known for a long time. And the castrated settings, tailored for the majority, do not allow the user’s playful hands to break everything.
This article will look at one of the most popular, widespread and overall good router Beeline SmartBox.
As expected in similar cases🙂 , is an OEM device. True, these are not typical repainted DLinks, but exotic ones from SERCOMM)

In fact, the router is a slightly modified Realtek_RTL8197D reference.
You can see more about it below
Brand name
: Beeline SmartBox.
Chip: Realtek 8197D (600 MHz)
RAM: 64 MB
WiFi: 802.11b/g/n 300Mbps, 2 internal antennas: 2x2 MIMO
Interfaces: 5 RJ-45 connectors with auto-detection of cable type, USB 2.0 port

From software features: DLNA, FTP-server, SAMBA-server (connection usb devices How network drive), which makes it an interesting option for creating a simple home media center.
In general, the device is not bad and worked stably for me, giving the maximum tariff over Wi-Fi.

However, as an enthusiast I lacked freedom, SSH and the ability to dig deeper inside, as well as the ability to fine-tune. That’s why I started looking for alternative firmware for the “smart box” and soon realized that there are none and there won’t be any in the near future...
Well, the situation is unpleasant, but not hopeless. 🙂
Since there are no alternatives, you need to get the most out of the stock one, if possible getting a normal console and raising the privileges to root. And to do this you need to merge and unpack the stock firmware.

Let's get started:

Attention. The following points are made from under Linux systems and I do not guarantee that you will be able to repeat all this under Win-like OS.

During preparation we used: Debian Lenny, binwalk, squashfs-tools, a little ingenuity and red eyes.

1) I download the latest firmware from here
wget http://static.beeline.ru/upload/images/help/devices/routers/SmartBox/SmartBox2019.zip
2) Unpacking 7zip, I discover img a file of incomprehensible, at first glance, content.
7z x SmartBox2019.zip
3) Launch by passing as an argument img shnik, to which he cheerfully reports about Secomm's signatures and even tells us hardware id, but that’s not the main thing. Inside we find a compressed binary ( bin-file), unpack the archive and get

Output binwalk

S1000_Smart_box_SERCOMM_BEELINE_2019.bin which once again emphasizes the SERCOMM origin of the device :)

4) Here it is, it would seem that happiness is nearby. But it was not there.
The binary file itself does not provide any human-readable information ( binary, cap).

And this is where the anal carnival begins:
We target it again and among the signatures, bootloader and garbage we find squashfs' official image (Briefly: Read-only file system, widely used in compressing *nix boot images).

Happiness is close, I thought. All that remains is to unpack...

Merging from the repository squashfs-tools containing everything necessary for unpacking and anticipating... I'm breaking off, unsquashfs speaks

Filesystem uses lzma compression, this is unsupported by this version

What does it mean that the file has been compressed in the most insidious way? lzma and he cannot unpack it.
Hmm, I'll go to Github for latest version squashfs-tools, I collect from source codes and... I break off again.
Scratching the turnips and combing makefile I notice that support lzma disabled by default. I change the parameter and... pay attention to the comment that for LZMA required LZMA SDK.

During the operation of the Smart-Box router, users need to reconfigure the equipment, which requires entering an individual login and password. But what to do if the router password is irretrievably forgotten or lost and cannot be recovered?

In this case, you can unlock the Beeline Smart-Box router by resetting the settings and then entering your credentials and password, among other things.

What to do if you forgot the password for the Smart-Box router?

To unlock the Smart Box router if the password is lost or forgotten, you need to change it. With the current settings, it is no longer possible to change the password. You need to perform a factory reset and then enter the required data following the recommendations below.

  1. Check that the computer's network cable is connected to one of the LAN ports located on the device.
  2. The cable that is routed into the apartment must be connected to the “WAN” port.
  3. Press the “Reset” button located on the router body.
  4. On your computer, open your existing Internet browser and enter the following combination in the address bar - 192.168.1.1. The welcome management page will open. wi-fi router. Click on the “Continue” button on the screen.
  5. On the “Start over” page that opens, you must enter the standard login and password. Enter the word admin in both lines and click Continue.
  6. In the menu that appears, select the section “Quick setup”.
  7. Here you need to fill out several subsections described below.

In the “Home Internet” field, enter your new username and password. Other Beeline home Internet settings are already embedded in the device’s memory and do not require adjustment.

In the “Wi-Fi network of the router” subsection, you need to come up with the name of your home wireless network and a password to access it (at least 8 characters).

“Guest Wi-Fi network” has similar characteristics to a home network; here you also need to enter a name and come up with a password.

In the “Beeline TV” field you need to select a port to connect the set-top box. This option is relevant if, in addition to home Internet, you also use Beeline television. You only need to fill out this subsection when connecting a TV cable to the Smart-Box router. Select the number of the port to which the cable going to the set-top box is connected.

After completing all the necessary settings, click “Save”.

Saving the settings will take certain time, usually about 1 minute.

Having made an Internet connection, the router will start working, and the message “Internet connected” will appear on the screen.

Reset Beeline Smart Box router

In order to reset the router, you need to find the “Reset” button on the side where the cable connection ports are located. It must be pressed using a match or a toothpick (do not use sharp objects such as a needle, you may damage the button). The button must be pressed for 10-15 seconds until the indicators on the front side of the device blink. After this, the router will boot from standard settings and will be completely ready to configure according to the instructions above.

Don’t forget to write down your new login and password so that in the future you can quickly make the necessary changes to the settings without resetting the router!
