I replaced the hard drive and the computer won't start Windows. Internet guide - all the most interesting things on the Internet. The hard drive starts and is detected by the computer, but hangs when trying to access it

replace In this article we will consider a typical case. You have a laptop (in the example Acer), which has an old “dying” hard drive installed. To ensure the safety of your information, all data from such a hard drive must be constantly backed up by copying to flash drives or disks, which is inconvenient and time-consuming, so it’s best install a new hard drive to replace the old one, having previously copied all the necessary information to any suitable medium, so that later it can simply be transferred to a new disk.

Video tutorial on this topic:

hard The most common signs of a “dying” hard drive are: clicks when starting the computer or during operation, very noisy operation, temporary delays when accessing it, etc. But, unfortunately, simply disassembling the laptop case and replacing the hard drive will not work. The operating system must be installed on the new disk, otherwise you simply will not start your computer. Therefore, for this we will need not only a new hard drive, but also an installation disk with the operating system (in the example Windows 7).

disk We disassemble the laptop case and take out the old disk. We write down its make and model on a piece of paper and go to the store. It is advisable to buy a similar disk; if there are none, we take a disk of a similar family (sales consultants should have an idea about this).

hard drive We insert the newly purchased hard drive into the laptop. We screw on the computer case, charge the battery, plug it in and start it up.

laptop On the laptop display you will see a blue or black screen with a message that the boot device is missing, you need to insert boot disk(optical disc with Windows 7) into the drive and press any key.

install After this, the OS installation program on the computer should start. The first stage Windows installations 7 is to download temporary files to your computer. You don't need to do anything here, you just need to wait a few minutes. Upon completion, you will proceed to the stage operating system settings settings. There will be nothing complicated here either - a series of familiar dialog boxes Windows, in which you will need to sequentially specify the following parameters:

Windows 1. Language, time format, keyboard layout.

pfvtybnm 3. Select the type of operating system that needs to be installed. Here the architecture item has two meanings - x86 and x64, which means respectively. If your computer is not very “ancient” and has a processor with several cores (you can find out about this from the laptop manual), then it makes sense to install a 64-bit OS.

;tcnrbq 4. Accept license terms by checking the appropriate checkbox and clicking the Next button.

dbyxtcnth 5. Select the installation type – Full...

lbcr 6. The next dialog box prompts us to select a partition to install the OS. Since the disk is new, you will see one partition in this window. Select it with the mouse and click Next.

setup The main stage of installing Windows 7 on the hard drive partition you just selected begins. We wait for the installation to complete, after which we proceed to the final stage system settings, which is also a series of dialog boxes where you need to specify and configure the following parameters:

Windows 1. Username and computer name.

windows 2. If you want to protect your account password, in the next window, enter your password twice and fill in the Hint field (in case you forget your password). If you don’t need this, leave all fields empty and click Next.

pfvtybnm 3. Enter the product key - a code in the form of a set of Latin letters and numbers. You can find this code in (on) the box from installation disk.

;tcnrbq 4. Select update options systems via the Internet. In order for you to treat this choice with understanding, I recommend that you now select the item - Postpone decision, so that you can then read about it on the Internet and make your choice consciously.

dbyxtcnth 5. Specify date, time, time zone settings and click Next.

change After applying the parameters you specified, you will see a working Windows table 7. Important! Don't forget to remove the OS installation disc from the drive before turning on your computer the next time. You can start copying your backed up files to your laptop with your new hard drive!

Welcome! This blog is dedicated to the Internet and computers, or rather was dedicated to them.

It’s probably immediately obvious that no new articles have appeared on the site for many years. Yes, this is the fate of most blogs. This project was once an ambitious undertaking, and the author, like many others writing at the time, had ambitious plans to become one of the best Russian bloggers. Well, if you look now, of those blogs that were created simultaneously with mine, most have already disappeared into eternity. And I just simply didn’t have enough time to blog. So yeah, it's not updated anymore. Although we once won the “Runet Blog 2011” competition with this site.

I even had the idea of deleting all this, but then I reviewed the old materials and realized that they could still be useful to readers. Yes, some articles are outdated (if I have enough strength, they will be marked accordingly), but the site, for example, can be useful for beginners - here you can read about the basic concepts of the Internet, learn how to set up the Internet, Windows, or even decide to switch to Linux. So take a look at the categories and choose the one that suits you.

And yet, I hope that this is more than just a blog, but a real guide to the Internet. The site can be viewed in directory mode, where all available articles are structured by categories. And, who knows, maybe one day new high-quality articles will start appearing here.

Modern Android phones are more than just phones. You get used to the set installed programs, to your call history and text messages, photo collections and much more. But time passes, and the device that you were completely satisfied with begins to slow down, glitch, or simply loses its presentable appearance due to chips on the body or scratches on the screen. The question arises of choosing a new phone and changing android phone. And if we now bypass the question of choice, then “moving” to new phone remains a serious problem - I absolutely don’t want to start all the data from scratch. This is what we will talk about today.

Most of the readers of this blog have most likely never encountered version control systems and will not encounter them in the near future. It's a pity. This extremely convenient invention is quite widely used by programmers, but, in my opinion, it could also be very useful for those who actively work with texts. But, probably, now there is not a single version control system that would be easy to start using for “office” ( Microsoft Office) work. Nevertheless, I think that the material presented in the article may be of interest to all readers.

If you have been wondering how to watch movies online and access the Internet from your TV, this article is for you. No, I know that some TVs already have Smart TV functionality, but I have never seen it work properly. Apparently, this is why Google recently demonstrated an absolutely stunning device that immediately became a sensation. We are talking about the Chromecast media streamer (Chromkast), a more advanced and available version last year's disastrous Nexus Q player.

The Chromecast dongle, whose dimensions do not exceed 2 inches, connects to the HDMI port of the TV and allows you to enjoy watching streaming web content. To control the streamer, you can use any device (tablet, PC, smartphone) based on the operating platform iOS, Windows, Android or Mac OS.

This article is about the device system memory android, problems that may arise due to its lack and ways to solve them. Not long ago I myself was faced with the fact that my phone is on android base began to regularly display messages about low memory when trying to install this or that application. Which was very strange for me, given that according to the description on the market there should have been about 16GB, and I also increased this volume using additional card memory. However, there was a problem, and it took a lot of fiddling around before I found the right solution that didn’t require root access or completely restoring the phone to its factory state.

Today I encountered this problem. In one department (at work), the computer does not work after a crash and reboot. The monitor shows a message indicating that booting from the CD is not possible.

First thought: “There is some kind of boot disk in the drive and it won’t boot...”.

But the drive is empty. I restart the computer to enter the BIOS and disable booting from CD, and then the fun begins.

When the computer starts, it freezes and does not respond in any way to pressing DEL, i.e. not included in BIOS.

I try several times for 2-3 minutes, and come to the conclusion that it’s either the motherboard, or the processor, or something else.

I return to my brother and tell him about this, to which he replies: “Turn it off, or better yet, unplug the power cord from the outlet, and then turn it on again.”

I come back - the BIOS is loaded. It’s already better, which means it’s scary, maybe there’s nothing.

The first thing to check in such cases is is the hard drive visible in the BIOS?, what I am doing.

There is no disk and it is not detected. Only the DVD drive is visible.

I try again - the result is the same, but after a reboot Windows starts to start :)

I restart the computer again and go into the BIOS - now the hard drive is in place and everything works fine.

This is the story...

Remembering that this sometimes happens, I decided to write this note.

So if you encounter such a problem - don't rush to panic.

Sometimes after pressing the RESET button on system unit, or when the lights are turned off, the computer may not see the hard drive and display a message boot failure, which means - no boot sector, i.e. the computer (or rather, the BIOS) does not see the hard drive on which the operating system is installed.

In such cases, the sequence of actions is as follows.

Step 1. First you need to turn off the computer, wait and turn it on again.

If it doesn't help, then

Step #2. You need to go into the BIOS and check for a hard drive.

If it is not there, then set it to AUTO (auto-detection) and restart the computer.

After this, everything usually falls into place.

If you have 2 hard drives, then it could be something else- the sequence of disks in the BIOS may change, and because of this there may also be a boot sector error.

In this case, you also need to go into the BIOS, but in addition check disk sequence- the one on which the system is located should be the first.

What to do if the hard drive does not start? Let's start the test by inspecting the hard drive board. If this does not help, move on to checking the screw heads.

from 270 rub. RUB

Many users personal computer The following unpleasant situation is familiar: while working on a computer, an urgent need arises to extract information from the hard drive, but when you connect the HDD, you discover that the hard drive does not start.

Don't rush to sound the alarm. You can immediately contact a specialist, or you can try to resuscitate the railway yourself.

If the hard drive does not boot, then its operation has malfunctioned, and a message may appear on the monitor screen about a screw failure during boot, or an error, or that it is impossible to find the hard drive in the BIOS settings.

There are two main root causes for the hard drive not booting: damage to the hard drive itself or software failures. The latter is explained by the fact that the user formatted the disk or accidentally deleted unnecessary folders. Here you can try to take action yourself.

But if the screw is mechanically damaged, you cannot do without professional help. There are, of course, other reasons that the hard drive does not open, for example, viruses that block the operation of the hard drive and other special cases.

What can you do if your hard drive is unreadable:

  • First, test your hard drive on another computer; perhaps the problem is not in the hard drive at all. Just in case, connect the screw to another connector; it happens that the HDD starts working in another port.

It happens that connectors become corroded over time, in this case it is necessary remove corrosion with a regular eraser. If, nevertheless, the screw does not start, then we continue to perform the following steps.
  • Check to see if all cables are connected to the hard drive correctly. If some cable is coming off the plug, or you find that the cords are not connected correctly, this could very well be the reason why the hard drive will not start.

Check the cables along their entire length; mechanical damage to the cable cannot be ruled out. You are lucky if this is the reason for the screw being unreadable, since this is the most easily remedied problem. You just need to replace the faulty cord.
  • Check if your hard drive is reading the controller hard drives. True, not in all cases the controller does not see the disk if it does not start.
  • If you have already used this hard drive, and it was working properly before the breakdown, then you need to change the drive letter in the disk management menu.

This action is especially relevant if you formatted new partitions on the hard drive.
  • Be sure to check the magnetic drive for viruses; in this case, you need to install anti-virus programs.
  • You need to check whether the disks are detected correctly. You can see this in Device Manager. There should be no yellow or red exclamation marks to indicate an error.
  • Reinstall the drivers on the hard drive controller.
  • Reinstall operating system Windows, sometimes this measure is effective.
  • It wouldn't hurt to clean your computer of temporary folders. Then optimize the Registry and Utilities service.

What to do when a hard drive that has not yet been used does not start?

So, you turn on the new hard drive for the first time, but it does not open:

If with software, Windows, cords and USB are all fine, but the hard drive does not start, then you need to find a breakdown of the device itself. Winchester consists of:

A) printed circuit board(green part at the bottom of the disk, consisting of many electronic controllers). The board's task is to convert codes into commands accessible to the computer;

b) “pancakes” (magnetic disks), on these thin glass or metal magnetic plates all computer information. The maximum number of revolutions per minute of such plates is 7200, the minimum is 5900;

V) set of magnetic heads, on each side of the “pancake” of the hard drive there is one magnetic head, that is, two heads per “pancake”. The heads do not contact the surface of the “pancake”, but upon impact, the heads come into contact with the disk, and the information on the drive is destroyed;

G) firmware, which provides control over the processing of incoming information. If the problem is in the firmware, then the data from the disk will not be available. The firmware on a computer's hard drive cannot be updated, like, for example, on a telephone.

If the hard drive does not boot, then the problem is in the circuit board (99% of all cases). Modern hard drives have their own unique microcode, so replacing the board, unfortunately, will give you practically nothing; on the contrary, if you try to replace the board yourself, you risk losing all the information from the disk.

It's spoiling printed circuit board when there are differences electrical voltage when they burn on it semiconductor devices(TVS diodes) protecting the board from overvoltage.

The board has one diode for 5 Volts, the second for 12 Volts.

You can check the health of the diodes with a multimeter, if the device shows zero ohms, then the diodes are burned out. In this case, you can replace them, and the board will work normally.

When replacing diodes, keep in mind that without these devices the hard drive is completely defenseless against power surges.

If the semiconductor devices did not burn out, then, unfortunately, the printed circuit board itself failed. You can try to replace it. To do this, unsolder or disconnect the permanent memory unit with a unique code and solder it to the new board. Check the connectors for the magnetic heads; if there is corrosion on them, remove it with an eraser. Corrosion may be the reason why your hard drive won't boot.

How to start a hard drive

Another reason that the hard drive does not start may be its absence in the BIOS, that is, the disk has the “Disabled” option in the settings. Change the setting to Enabled.

How to reload drivers if the problem is with them.

There are times in life when you have to perform actions that are incorrect, but necessary. Such actions can, in general, include running Windows operating system from hard drive, which was previously located on another computer on which the installation was carried out. Let's try to figure out why this operation can be considered “incorrect”, for what reasons the operating system transferred in this way may not start, and what should be done to still start it.

Let's start with the main thing. Why is it not worth “revitalizing” an old operating system in a new computer, and what problems are associated with this? To explain, a short excursion into how the Windows operating system is installed and works is required.

If you have done the installation yourself at least once, you probably remember the approximate sequence. After starting the installation with optical disk first of all they are copied setup files, then, after the first reboot, the operating system starts from the hard drive and configures itself for some time. It is at this moment that the initial “binding” of Windows to the computer hardware occurs. Even before the first full launch, the system determines what components the computer consists of and installs standard drivers for them. Naturally, drivers are not installed for all devices this way. But the required set, which includes drivers system devices (processor, chipset and standard controllers), hard drives and drives optical disks, is always installed.

After the first boot of the “newly installed” system, the user carries out the final Windows setup and installs the drivers that come with your computer. In this case, some standard drivers are replaced with “special” ones, which allow you to fully use the capabilities of the equipment.

What do we end up with? The operating system is installed and configured to work with a specific computer configuration. This is exactly what causes problems when transferring a hard drive with Windows installed on it, and it is for this reason that it is better to install the system again.

But sometimes situations arise when installing a new operating system does not solve problems, but creates them. For example, some unique program with a unique configuration is installed, which cannot be reinstalled, or the installation Windows disk I don’t have it at hand, but the computer should work immediately after installing the hard drive.

In this case, whether you want it or not, you have to “raise” the operating system already installed on the hard drive. In this case, the main task is to load Windows before the desktop appears. Most often, the operating system transferred with a hard drive simply does not boot. It may freeze during the loading process, throw " blue screens» with error messages, reboot endlessly or show a line with running loading bars.

Why does this happen, since, theoretically, Windows should automatically recognize new hardware? What about Plug and Play, you ask? The fact is that automatic device recognition begins to work only after the operating system kernel is loaded. Drivers for some devices start before this point, and the system cannot determine and resolve the mismatch between the driver and the device.
Most often problems with booting Windows related to the operation of the hard drive controller. The mechanism by which these problems arise is as follows. After the “clean” operating system boots for the first time, the user installs the driver package that comes with motherboard. This package may include built-in sound and video card drivers, network card and USB controllers. And this set definitely includes hard drive controller drivers, which allow you to use drive resources more efficiently (compared to standard drivers integrated into Windows). It is these drivers that are loaded before the system starts working, and it is they who most often “interfere” with Windows loading.

The solution to a problem, as often happens, is directly related to the cause of its occurrence. In order to boot Windows after transferring a hard drive, you must perform certain operations on the donor computer before moving the media. Before the last shutdown of the computer, you should remove the hard disk controller drivers from the system and restore the default ones. Windows drivers. It would also be useful to have expansion cards, for example, a TV tuner. These operations are performed in the menu “ System Properties –> Hardware» in the Panel Windows management. The system will require a reboot for the changes to take effect. Select the option " Reboot later"and turn off the computer. That’s it, the hard drive can be transferred; with this sequence of actions, the probability of booting the system in a new computer is close to one hundred percent.

But what if old computer Has it broken down and it is no longer possible to perform any operations on it? I can only recommend one thing - a motherboard in new computer in this case, you should choose so that it is as similar as possible to the old one. The chipset manufacturer (Intel, AMD, Nvidia) must be the same, and it is advisable that the manufacturer motherboard and the chipset model also matched. Ideal option, of course, is to replace the motherboard with a similar one.
So, we managed to start the system. What should be done after this? As with installing a new operating system, you should install drivers for the new hardware and system programs, such as the sound control panel for the new sound card or a program for working with the Wi-Fi module. And of course you should remove similar programs, “tied” to old devices.

To summarize the above, I would like to remind you once again that you should only run Windows transferred to a new computer along with a hard drive if absolutely necessary. If there is no such need, it would be better to install a new and “clean” operating system on the new computer. But if you still have to transfer and run Windows, I hope that the recommendations outlined in the article will be useful to you.
