Sound distribution xiaomi mi5 plus 64gb review. Xiaomi Mi5s and Mi5s Plus. First look. Reviews for the Xiaomi Mi5S Plus phone

September 27 Xiaomi company held another presentation in Beijing, where two new smartphones were presented at once - Xiaomi Mi5s and Xiaomi Mi5s Plus. Usually the prefix “Plus” denotes an increased display size, but in the case of Mi5s the situation is slightly different. Mi5 and Mi5s Plus differ not only in screen diagonal, but also in memory capacity, cameras, batteries, design, and the location of some elements. In fact, it's two different devices. But first things first.

First, as usual, the characteristics.

Characteristics of Xiaomi Mi5s

  • Screen: IPS LCD, 5.15” diagonal, resolution 1920x1080 pixels, 428 ppi, 2.5D glass
  • Processor: eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 platform (2x2.15 GHz Kryo + 2x1.6 GHz Kryo)
  • Graphics: Adreno 530 (624 MHz)
  • RAM: 3/4 GB
  • Memory card slot: no
  • Main camera: 12 MP with autofocus and flash, Sony IMX378 sensor, pixel size 1.55 microns, f/2.0, 5 lenses, video recorded in 4k
  • Battery: 3200 mAh
  • Dimensions: 145.6 x 70.3 x 8.3 mm
  • Weight: 145 grams

The “S” prefix should mean improvements compared to this year’s previous flagship, the Xiaomi Mi5. What has improved?

Glass with a 2.5D effect appeared. In my opinion, this was greatly lacking in the previous model, when everyone was already implementing similar glass even in smartphones in the mid-range and budget segments.

The screen received support for pressure processing technology, here it is called 3D Touch Display and is available in the older version (4/128 GB). It’s a strange decision to add support to the older version and not add it to the younger one; this introduces confusion into the already complex classification of smartphones.

The Mi5S also has an updated platform - it uses the latest Snapdragon 821 and the company abandoned the 32 GB version. This is a logical step, because the smartphone does not support memory cards, but the minimum version is 64 GB.

The camera is also different - a new sensor, the resolution has become lower (12 megapixels versus 16) and no optical stabilization, but the pixel size has been increased (1.55 microns versus 1.12 microns in Mi5). I don’t know what will happen in reality. The front camera is unchanged.

The black false frame around the display is not as obvious as it was in Mi5 - also progress.

The battery capacity has increased slightly, now it is 3200 mAh versus 3000 mAh in the regular Mi5.

All in all, the new Xiaomi Mi5s really looks like a good job of improving on some of the bugs of the simple Mi5. One thing that raises questions is the fingerprint scanner. Yes, it is now ultrasonic. Yes, it is located under the screen, as many people like. But! If in Mi5 it was a thin mechanical key with a scanner built into it, now it’s just a touch key and a scanner. Moreover, in the Mi5S Plus smartphone presented along with the Mi5s, the scanner is located on the “back”. That is, Xiaomi now has smartphones with a scanner on the front and a scanner on the back, and, in my opinion, this is strange. I won't say it's bad, just strange. Typically, manufacturers try to introduce some kind of standardization into their devices, build a certain logical chain, and connect different smartphones. At Xiaomi, when it comes to the scanner, they take the opposite route.

Characteristics of Xiaomi Mi5s Plus

  • Case materials: aluminum, glass
  • Operating system: Android 6, MIUI 8
  • Network: GSM, HSDPA, LTE, dual nanoSIM support, 4G+ support
  • Screen: IPS LCD, 5.7” diagonal, resolution 1920x1080 pixels, 386 ppi, 2.5D glass
  • Processor: eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 platform (2x2.35 GHz Kryo + 2x1.6 GHz Kryo)
  • Graphics: Adreno 530 (624 MHz)
  • RAM: 4/6 GB
  • Flash memory for data storage: 64/128 GB
  • Memory card slot: no
  • Interfaces: Wi-Fi (ac/b/g/n) Dual-Band, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, connector USB Type-C for charge/sync/headphones, IR port
  • Main camera: dual, 13 MP with autofocus and flash, pixel size 1.55 microns, f/2.0, 5 lenses, video recorded in 4k
  • Front camera 4 MP, pixel size 2 microns, f/2.0
  • Navigation: GPS (A-GPS support), Glonass, Beidou
  • Additionally: fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, light sensor, proximity sensor, function fast charging: 80-85% charge in half an hour (Quick Charge 3.0)
  • Battery: 3800 mAh
  • Dimensions: 154.6 x 77.7 x 8 mm
  • Weight: 168 grams

The “backbone” of the characteristics in Xiaomi Mi5S Plus is exactly the same as in Mi5S. The difference is in the screen diagonal and size. Mi5S Plus also has two camera modules, one with a color sensor, the other with a monochrome one. Just like in Huawei smartphones.

Speaking of design, Xiaomi has taken an unusual step, and the new Mi5s and Mi5s Plus are made in the same design as the more budget Redmi Pro, I’m talking about the polishing of the metal, the shape of the case and the characteristic smooth curves.

In Mi5S Plus, the fingerprint scanner is located on the back of the case, and on the front there are only touch keys.

In general, it’s difficult for me to say exactly what cool features this or that smartphone offers. Mi5S turned out to be a logical improvement of the simple Mi5, and Mi5S Plus is, accordingly, just a slightly different device. If, on the plus side, two cameras work as well as they do in Huawei smartphones(P9, P9 Plus, Honor 8), then the device will turn out to be very interesting.

The cost of the basic version of Xiaomi Mi5s (3/64 GB) will be 2,000 yuan (about 20,000 rubles), Xiaomi Mi5s (4/128 GB) – 2,300 yuan (23,000 rubles).

The cost of the basic version of Xiaomi Mi5s Plus (4/64 GB) will be 2,300 yuan (about 23,000 rubles), Xiaomi Mi5s Plus (6/128 GB) – 2,600 yuan (26,000 rubles).

Official prices, as usual, are as gloriously low as they are unattainable. But taking into account the fact that Xiaomi is now not as popular and strong as two or three years ago, when the company’s devices had no alternative, we can expect a quick adjustment close to these prices. That is, if a price reduction for the conventional Mi4 a couple of years ago had to wait 2-3 months, then the prices for Mi5s and Mi5S Plus will become close to the stated ones in a month, I believe. At the same time, of course, there will still not be exactly the same prices as those posted on the website, but you can expect something in the region of 25,000-26,000 rubles for a simple Mi5s and 30,000 rubles for a Mi5 Plus when ordering devices from China.

It’s difficult to say what’s wrong, but when studying new devices from Xiaomi, I literally feel something “wrong”. It seems that the characteristics are excellent, and everything you need is in place, but something is missing. Perhaps there is a simple term for my feeling: “oversexed,” or maybe I’m right after all and the company has lost its spark a little. Everything seems to be in place, but there is no spark, there is no single style, no common logic for the line of devices, it feels as if smartphones have now become just another position for Xiaomi on a par with TVs, headsets, external batteries and hundreds of other positions on the site.

Why did I call this smartphone a tourist smartphone in the title of the review? It's simple. It is ideal as a navigator and has good camera- what else does a tourist need from a smartphone? I specifically asked for Mi 5s Plus to test during my week-long vacation - and I was right.

Price

Battery

The battery capacity seems to be quite impressive - 3800 mAh. On the other hand, the device is quite big. With what bigger screen, the more electricity it consumes.

However, the battery test results are 180% of the standard. The result is excellent. It is very difficult to discharge in a day. Xiaomi went on vacation with me, where, as usual, I chaotically moved around an unfamiliar area, actively using the navigator and frantically photographing everything that could not be eaten or drunk with the same smartphone. Somehow I managed to discharge the Mi 5s to thirty percent. But it was a bright, clear day, so the screen brightness was at or near maximum.

Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus as a flashlight

Flash brightness in flashlight mode is slightly above average. Not bad, the road can be illuminated.

Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus as a photo and video camera

The traditional question is: can the smartphone being tested replace a digital point-and-shoot camera? In this case - definitely yes. I brought back almost eight hundred photographs from a week-long vacation. I'm happy with the quality. I understand that it can be better. But... However, what can I say. There are examples below in the text. Look, think.

The camera is interesting. It's double. More precisely, there are two rear cameras. One, the main one, takes ordinary color photographs. The second - monochrome - is turned off by default. For the second camera to work, you need to turn on the “Stereo” mode - click on the aperture icon in the camera interface. (Why the mode is named like that and why this particular icon is used is a mystery to me. But, probably, there is some logic in it). And in the “Stereo” mode, the final picture, according to some cunning algorithm, is formed from pictures received from two cameras.

What is important to know. Regular shooting with one camera, even in HDR mode, is fast. As it should be for a smartphone with such hardware. Click - done. Shooting "Stereo" is much more leisurely. Something on the order of a second per frame, if not more. On the question of why smartphones need powerful processors and fast memory. Or is time spent not on creating a picture from two, but on something else? Don't know.

The results are interesting. Night “stereo” shots, for my taste, turn out better than shots with one camera, even if that one camera works in “night” mode.

During the day, I usually didn’t turn on “stereo”, leaving the camera in automatic HDR mode. Yes, daytime “stereos” also sometimes turn out to be quite interesting. Less bright and more natural, perhaps. If you're not in a hurry, it makes sense to experiment, take a picture this way and that, then leisurely compare it at your leisure and leave the best one. But wait a second per frame? This is too much. Everything tasty and interesting will have time to run away/fall/fly away/drive away from the frame.

And, in fact, what is really missing is a mode in which the smartphone would immediately take a regular auto photo, HDR and “stereo” in bulk and save all three of them side by side. I would love to use it sometimes.

Go ahead, let's look at the photos. There will be a lot of them today. Signatures, if any, are located above corresponding pictures.

New smartphones from the Xiaomi brand, already loved by millions of users, with the prefix “s” and “Plus” seem to speak through the mouth of the manufacturer - I’m ready to give you 100% love and a little more So, let’s meet.

Before us is another beauty in a high-quality and stylish aluminum case.

All edges and corners of the smartphone are rounded, including protective glass screen made using 2.5D technology.

The smartphone is available in four colors – gray, silver, pink and gold.

The front panel in all colors except gray has an aristocratic white color. The smartphone in a gray case is distinguished by a black front panel.

Below the screen there is a fingerprint sensor, which also serves as a Home button, and at its edges there are two more standard touch buttons android.

On the bottom edge there is a speaker grille and a USB Type-C connector.

The power button and volume rocker are conveniently located on the right side.

On the left side there is a slot for memory cards, and on the top there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

All in all Xiaomi design Mi5s can be described as very stylish and comfortable. Now let's look at its technical characteristics.

The smartphone screen has a diagonal of 5.15″ with a resolution of 1920x1080 (FullHD), which, together with its compactness and shape, positions it as comfortable smartphone for one hand. Of course, the image quality is at a high level. The smartphone inherited the OLED matrix from its predecessor Mi5 without the “s” index.

Under the hood there is an updated 4-core Snapdragon 821 processor with a frequency of 2.15 GHz and an Adreno 530 video card. The RAM has a capacity of 3 GB, and the built-in flash memory for installing programs and games is 64 GB.

Based on the test results of the previous Mi5 model with a Snapdragon 820 processor (1.8 GHz), which scored about 84,000 points in the AnTuTu graphics test, we can confidently say that the updated model with the “s” index has very high performance, sufficient for the most difficult modern games , not to mention other tasks. This is confirmed by the results of independent tests, where Mi5s scores about 102,000 points.

The slot for Nano-SIM format SIM cards is not hybrid and, as a result, does not support the installation of memory cards. This once again emphasizes that the smartphone belongs more to the business segment than to the gaming series.

  • Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4/5 GHz)
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • 4G (FDD-LTE 850/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz)
  • GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS

It is very good that Wi-Fi is supported in the 5 GHz band, since the 2.4 GHz frequency is already overloaded, which often leads to problems with the Internet. Another advantage is support for GLONASS, but the presence of NFC and even such a simple and familiar FM radio is not announced, although not everyone needs it.

Of the sensors, much of what the Mi5 was stuffed with remains:

  • accelerometer, gyroscope, direction sensor (for navigation and control in games)
  • magnetic compass (for navigation)
  • fingerprint sensor

However, in the updated model, the manufacturer seems to have decided to get rid of the anachronism in the form of an infrared port and a barometer. But it appeared new technology tension calculation, which in general relates more to the touchscreen. But its usefulness is so questionable that even the manufacturer himself does not advertise it.

The rear camera for photo/video shooting made by Sony has a resolution of 12 megapixels, autofocus and dual flash. The front camera has a resolution of 4 megapixels. Like other smartphones from the company, the cameras are not bad, but there are not enough stars in the sky. The quality of the images is above average.

The battery capacity is 3100 mAh, which is average, but is compensated by fast charging in just 1 hour 20 minutes. The dimensions of the smartphone are 145x70x8 mm and its weight is 147 grams.

The smartphone runs under the operating system Android systems 6 with the MIUI 7 graphical shell, which is considered one of the most convenient and beautiful.

You can purchase it in the already quite popular GearBest store. To get a big discount, use the coupon: XiaomiRGB

Despite the fact that only the prefix “Plus” was added to the name of the previous smartphone, this model has significant differences. What's immediately noticeable is the lack of an under-display fingerprint sensor.

In fact, it has not gone anywhere, but is located on the back wall of the smartphone under the camera, which is also unusual.

We'll talk about the camera a little lower, but for now we'll note the infrared transmitter that has returned to the top edge and the fact that the smartphone is available in the same four colors - silver, gray, gold and pink.

In general, it also looks bright and cheerful, has a comfortable shape with rounded corners and edges, but its size is somewhat larger.

And real men will find a more strict black and gray option for themselves.

The screen has a diagonal of 5.7″ with a resolution of 1920x1080 (FullHD). That is, we already have a full-fledged phablet that can replace two devices – a smartphone and a tablet. This size is undoubtedly more suitable for watching videos and playing games.

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus is also equipped powerful processor Snapdragon 821, but with an even higher frequency, which is 2.35 GHz. The graphics platform has not undergone any changes, it is still the same Adreno 530. This means that gaming performance will also be at its best. The volume of RAM and internal memory is 4/64 GB, respectively. In general, there will definitely not be a shortage of RAM in the coming years.

Among the shortcomings, it can be noted that the SIM card slot is not hybrid and there is no possibility to install a memory card.

From wireless technologies supported:

  • Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4/5 GHz)
  • Bluetooth2
  • 2G (GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
  • 3G (WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100 MHz)
  • 4G (FDD-LTE 850/1800/2100/2600 MHz)
  • GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, BDS
  • FM radio

In general, everything is the same, plus NFC and radio, which is good news

They also didn’t skimp on sensors, including:

  • Light sensor (for automatic brightness adjustment)
  • proximity sensor (turns off the screen during a conversation)
  • accelerometer, gyroscope (for navigation and control in games)
  • electronic compass (for navigation)
  • Orientation sensor (for auto-rotating the screen)
  • fingerprint sensor
  • infrared transmitter

The camera system has significant differences. It consists of two 13-megapixel sensors and a dual flash. One of the sensors is color, the other is black and white. There are no particular differences in daytime shots; they are still at a level above average, no more, no less. But in low light conditions, thanks to the design of the photo module, the pictures are much better.

There is nothing new to say about the front camera. It's the same as most new ones. Xiaomi smartphones. Its resolution is 4 megapixels, the pictures are of satisfactory quality, but for selfie lovers it may not be enough.

The battery has a good capacity of 3800 mAh, plus it also supports fast charging, typical of modern smartphones on the Snapdragon chipset.

The screen size and capacious battery undoubtedly add dimensions to the smartphone, however, Xiaomi Mi5s Plus still remains quite elegant. Its dimensions are 154x77x8 mm and its weight is 168 grams. Of course, using one hand is no longer so comfortable.

The smartphone also works under Android control 6 with the MIUI 7 graphical shell, which has become the hallmark of all Xiaomi smartphones.

conclusions

Xiaomi has once again proven that it firmly guards its image in the eyes of many users by releasing two new excellent flagship smartphone with exquisite style, high performance and affordable prices. We can confidently recommend them for purchase.

In 2016, Xiaomi took a rather long pause before releasing a whole range of top smartphones, among which was Mi5s Plus, the senior model in the flagship line. It was he who could become the most serious competitor for Galaxy Note 7, however, Samsung would not have suffered a fiasco. Therefore, now Xiaomi Mi5s Plus has practically no rivals in its class.

Under the smartphone we find only Charger 1.5A with Chinese plug, USB cable Type-C, SIM card ejector, documentation. The only additional accessories here are a transparent plastic case. The charger supports fast charging option.

Design

Xiaomi designers have spent a lot of effort to release an attractive update to the line. Xiaomi Mi5s Plus is a classic all-in-one with rounded corners on the back panel, which is also made of brushed metal. The material is pleasant to the touch, looks stylish and at first it seems that using the smartphone will be comfortable and it will not slip out of your hands.

The Xiaomi flagship was presented in a strict design, without any innovative elements. The monolithic case is not collapsible, so you should think in advance about the fact that you will receive a non-removable battery. There are noticeable plastic inserts on the back that are needed to improve signal quality. They are almost impossible to distinguish by touch.

We can only speak compliments about the quality of the assembly - no backlashes or creaks, all parts are of high quality, perfectly adjusted to each other. However back panel Still, it slips a little and fingerprints will be visible on it over time.

The dimensions of the smartphone do not allow for comfortable use with one hand, even despite the minimal bezels of the 5.7-inch screen. The only way out can be found in the settings and enable the function of resizing the working area of the display.

The display occupies almost the entire front panel of the smartphone and is protected by tempered 2.5D glass. There is an oleophobic coating that protects against fingerprints.
All buttons are located in the usual places. Above the screen on the front panel there is a model front camera, in the center – the speaker mesh, light and proximity sensors, led indicator notifications.

Below the display there is a row of touch control keys. They are illuminated with white backlighting and have a vibration response.
A dual-camera module is installed on the rear panel, next to it there is a dual LED flash, as well as a fingerprint scanner. As for the latter, its error rate is minimal and it works quickly.

On the right side of the case there is an on/off button and a volume rocker. They are metal, the pressure is distinct, with a click. There is no backlash.

On the left side there is only a slot for two nano-SIM cards. There is no microSD support here.

On the top edge there are: an additional microphone, a 3.5 mm AUX jack for a headset/headphones, and an infrared port.

At the bottom of the case there is a USB Type-C port for connecting a charger or for synchronization, as well as two speaker arrays and the main microphone.

Display

I received Xiaomi Mi5s Plus 5.7-inch Full HD display with IPS matrix, without an air gap. The dot density reaches 386 ppi, so we won’t see any unpleasant artifacts in the image.

The viewing angles of the screen are large, there is no fading or distortion effect at maximum tilt. Color reproduction is normal, although with default settings it is noticeable that the colors are oversaturated. The white color may turn yellowish, but this can be corrected by adjusting the white balance settings.

The display sensor recognizes up to 10 touches simultaneously.

The maximum screen brightness is average. There are no complaints about the contrast of the picture. Outdoors the screen remains readable even in bright sunlight. There is a good anti-reflective coating here.

Performance

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus runs on a quad-core Snapdragon 821 processor with two clusters: 2 Kryo cores with a frequency of 2.35 GHz and two more cores with a frequency of 2.2 GHz. The Adreno 530 graphics accelerator is installed. When purchasing, you can choose one of several smartphone options that differ in volume random access memory– 4GB or 6GB.

For example, the version with 4GB of RAM showed the following results in benchmarks:

  • AnTuTu – 157291 points
  • Geekbench – 1842/4405 points

All results are impressive and close to the maximum in the ranking. It turns out that Xiaomi offers the most affordable package of productive hardware. Definitely the power reserve will last for a long time. Any applications, even the most demanding ones, will work quickly. Xiaomi Mi5s Plus copes with multitasking “excellently”. Switching between applications is instant.
The flagship also flies with powerful games. There were no lags or image stuttering in any of the tested games. Under heavy load, the heating is slightly noticeable.
RAM speed is excellent – 15.7 GB/s, read write speed internal memory– 465/173 MB/s. UFS 2.0 type memory is installed.

OS

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus runs on MIUI 8, Android 6. If you receive a smartphone with international firmware, then there is full support for the Russian language and all the necessary ones are preinstalled Google services. All updates will then come via OTA.

The advantage is the absence of unnecessary pre-installed applications. Behind Lately MIUI has made significant progress in performance, optimization and stability. The interface has become simpler and more convenient. Branded Xiaomi apps got more features. Initially there are no root rights.

Camera

The Mi5s Plus has two Sony IMX258 modules installed at once: the first is a 13-megapixel standard, the second is a 13-megapixel monochrome, each with an f/2.0 aperture. This camera is also installed in Xiaomi Redmi Pro. This solution allows you to get excellent detail and high-quality color reproduction, but it is better not to use the HDR mode - the colors look unnatural. However, overall the photo quality is very good.

If we compare the shooting quality of the Mi5s Plus camera with the Mi5s camera, then the dynamic range leaves much to be desired, the image turns out to be too light or dark, depending on the lighting conditions. In poor lighting, the ISO value immediately increases and the picture becomes blurry.

Video – Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus camera test, comparison with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

In theory, the dual main camera should have been the highlight of the Xiaomi Mi5s Plus, but it has some unpleasant moments. When “stereo mode” is activated, a second 13-megapixel monochrome module is connected to shooting. At the same time, the shutter response time increases significantly, but the photo quality remains the same. In this mode, you cannot even adjust the background brightness. Unfortunately, there is practically no difference between simple shooting and shooting in stereo mode.

The smartphone did not receive either optical camera image stabilization or electronic one. Perhaps something will change after a firmware update.

The front 4-megapixel camera here is the same as in Mi5s.

Records smartphone video from excellent quality, the sound is pleasant, stereo. There is a limitation for shooting in 4k – no more than 25 fps. However, autofocus is adequate and there is rarely a need to use a tripod.

Xiaomi Mi5s Plus will appeal to those who like to take photos or videos during the day. We hope that the camera will soon have electronic image stabilization.

Battery

Time battery life Xiaomi Mi5s Plus was a pleasant surprise. The smartphone received a battery with a capacity of 3800 mAh. Considering that the smartphone has a 5.7-inch screen, 2 days with intense load is a very good result.

During 2 days of testing, the DOT (display-on time) function worked for 7-8 hours, benchmarks were launched, GPS worked, and the smartphone’s performance in games was checked. In the PCMark battery test, the smartphone was able to last 9 hours – the screen brightness was set to medium.

The charging speed is fast, any charger that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 will do - the battery will be charged by 20% every 15 minutes. From 80% to 100% charging occurs in 30 minutes. Thus, the process of fully recharging the Xiaomi Mi5s Plus battery will require 1.5 hours of waiting.

Video – Review of Xiaomi Mi 5c Plus

Results

pros

  • clear and bright display
  • fast memory
  • high performance
  • high-quality network signal reception, GPS and Wi-Fi
  • excellent battery life
  • The camera takes great pictures during the day

minuses

  • the dual camera did not show itself at all
  • the smartphone belongs more to the middle class than to the flagships

If Xiaomi decided to experiment with enlarging the Mi5s screen, then it was a success. For quite little money. Xiaomi Mi5s Plus turned out quality smartphone, with numerous advantages: the camera takes good pictures during the day, the quality of signal reception allows you to forget about interference, the battery life is even surprising. But, unfortunately, Mi5s left a much more pleasant impression. Xiaomi Mi5s Plus lacks the feel of a premium device.
