MediaMonkey is a free audio player with the ability to manage your music collection. Why did I even go there?

Music can be approached in different ways. You can love it, hate it, ignore it, be inspired by it, or tune yourself in the right way; you can enhance feelings, emotions, impressions; You can be angry, hate, or, on the contrary, be in complete harmony with yourself and the world around you. One way or another, almost any aspect of life can be influenced by music.

I love music and can hardly imagine myself without it (as I hope you can too). Now such specialized devices as music players have practically disappeared - they remained purely niche solutions, mainly intended either for playing sports, or for shaking money out of the wallets of the so-called “audiophiles,” most of whom are rich and wealthy citizens.

Who took them out of the market? That's right, our beloved mobile phone. Today I would like to tell you about the next four programs, this time, as you might guess, for listening to audio files.

As I already said, there are mastodons in almost any type of program, and this direction is no exception - you have probably heard about Poweramp, WinAMP, JetAudio, Neutron MP, doubleTwist, MixZing and PlayerPro. If for some reason none of these solutions suits you (design, ease of use, some other criteria), then perhaps this article will be of great use to you.

Looking ahead, I’ll say that I didn’t find any difference in sound quality in them (and the developers don’t seem to promise anything like that). I will also note that below will be programs that stand out from the general background of the bulk, but you should not look for super-sophisticated media combines in them with a million and one presets for the equalizer and three hundred more settings, functions and other things (by the way, not in any none of them have gapless playback, this factor should be taken into account). And yes, you shouldn’t pay attention to the English interface in the program - for me it’s a system interface, that’s all.

So, let's go.

Download on Google Play

The first program will be the MediaMonkey player, well-known to desktop PC users, which relatively recently appeared on Android, and just a month or two ago set foot in the store. Google Play. On this moment The application is in open beta testing, so various bugs and annoying errors may occur, but I did not notice any such problems.

The program interface is minimalist in the truest sense of the word - there are practically no graphic elements, only a black background, holo-like section icons and thin dividing lines.

The main screen contains the main navigation window. Here you can choose a method for sorting music (by artists, albums, composers, genres, playlists; displaying all tracks available on the device is supported). Separate items include “audiobooks”, “podcasts” (download from external sources impossible, local data only), "video", streaming via UPnP and "sync now" (media libraries with the desktop version) - the first difference from the rest of the programs in today's release. Although I promised at the beginning not to offer “combines”, I did not keep my word. However, we’ll leave the ability to work with video for some other time.

Having selected an album, you will be presented with a list of tracks in it, a cover image and information such as the total duration of the “record” and the number of tracks in it. The top bar has a “shuffle all” button, “search” and a menu.

The main playback window consists of a large album cover, three navigation keys and a progress bar (tap navigation is naturally supported). Clicking on the cover will bring up two pop-up bars at the top and bottom (“rating”, “shuffle all” and “repeat one/all tracks”). A gesture from right to left will bring up a translucent window with the lyrics of the song, if they are included in tags (the latter, by the way, can be changed directly from the program).

The oldest player in today's selection, which was born last year, managed to undergo some graphical changes in the interface, became faster, more stable and, to be honest, even more pleasing to the eye (although for particularly demanding users there is also standard way navigation).

When you first launch the program, it will guide you through a more than complete and understandable tutorial, clearly showing how to work with this program, and at the end it will offer you to download album covers - all or only the missing ones. I would like to note that this player does better than others, including the “grands” - this is understandable, because the entire program is based on them.

Its main feature is the interface, built on the arrangement of album covers into a beautiful collage. At first glance, this solution may seem impractical, but in reality everything is very convenient and, in my opinion, superior to the standard alphabetical “column” sorting. The collage can be scaled by “pinch” back and forth, and at a great distance all the images are hidden (it still becomes impossible to see them properly), and their places are taken by names.

There is no point in listing all the options, otherwise they are quite ordinary - a simple five-band equalizer with several presets and the ability to set values manually, a couple of sound filters and several effects. By going to the settings (which, by the way, are quite extensive), you can configure scrobbling in Last.fm, select appearance lock screen widget, limit scanning of folders to only individually selected ones, and set better album image quality for the sake of performance.

The main playback window offers a slightly larger number of available control buttons. When you long press on the album cover, a dialog menu will appear with big amount options (for example, managing a playlist or combining albums by name).

With this powerful program, you can bring complete order to the music collections on your computer without much difficulty. After starting development, you can quite simply organize all available CD media and music files of different formats into one single library. In parallel with this, you can automatically or manual mode edit tags in compositions, you can rename files or directories using a given mask, you can in the full news.

If we consider additional advantages, then of course we cannot ignore the program’s ability to work with plug-ins from the Winamp player; among other things, MediaMonkey can synchronize data with a fairly large number of portable players, for example, with an iPod. If you want to have a sorted music collection, with all the CD covers, descriptions, tags and so on, then I think MediaMonkey is quite suitable for you.

So, using the development, you will be able to use a convenient manager, listen to music and adjust the equalizer plus connect DSP effects, you will also be able to copy CDs and convert tracks between each other, automatically rename files and tags, you can search for duplicate music files on hard drives, MediaMonkey can create playlists, you can order a full report on all ongoing operations, there is support for burning CD and DVD media, there is file control. MediaMonkey has Russian support, so I think it won’t be difficult to understand the abundance of possibilities, in general, enjoy everyone’s use!

The new beast has an exceptional design, but fortunately, this is not the only advantage of the combine. MediaMonkey can play more than 20 audio file formats, rip CDs, burn CD/DVDs, convert music into the 5 most popular formats (MP3, M4A, OGG, FLAC and WMA), connect to portable devices (iPod, iRiver), generate tags for audio files, contains an excellent tag editor, hotkey support, proxy for streaming Internet radio and much more.

Various methods for grouping songs, there is even Drag"n"Drop for creating your own playlists with just two clicks of the mouse. Support for additional skins and plugins (input, output, DSP, general, visualization), there is a good 7-band equalizer, although far from perfect.

There are several more useful functions, but access to them is only granted after purchasing an additional license. Without it, the program is completely free, the only drawback is the lack of a Russian-language interface, which is so lacking in the program.

The main media window of the player is a large center, including information about the song (at the bottom), the library tree (on the left), the playlist list (on the right), and the current list of songs (the central part).

The player only lacks a more convenient window, reduced in size by half and having only the most necessary functions, a Russian language pack, a more advanced equalizer, a slightly more complete stock of supported file formats and a couple more minor fixes, in general, even now MediaMonkey is a worthy analogue and a competitor to advanced players.

I still recommend trying a certain monkey from Ventis Media Inc., taste new technologies and try out some new functions; I don’t think it differs much from small audio players in its functional qualities.
