    PDF format
    PDF format(Portable Document Format) is an electronic document format developed by Adobe Systems.
    PDF files (documents) have the extension - .pdf
    First of all, the PDF format is intended for presenting printed products in electronic form.
    There are many programs for viewing ".pdf files", as well as the official free program "Adobe Reader".
    "Adobe Reader" is usually supplied with the operating system (all computer instructions are created in PDF format). The traditional way to create PDF documents is .
    That is, the document as such is prepared in its own program (for example, a graphics program, text editor, CAD, etc.), and then exported to PDF format. This is exactly how we created the PDF document in Word 2010 described above.

    Virtual printer
    Virtual printer is a computer program whose interface is similar to a regular printer driver, but it does not control the actual printer.
    When a user starts printing a document on such a printer, the program processes the resulting stream of graphic commands in a certain way, sometimes allowing changes to be made to it, and the processing result is usually written to a file.

    Virtual printer features:

    • Convert documents to PDF, Djvu or PostScript format.
    • Save multiple documents into one.
    • Convert documents to graphics files, such as JPEG or TIFF, for presentation in a universal, platform-independent format.
    • Sending documents to a fax server.
    • Adding features that the printer does not support, such as:
      • printing multiple pages on one without borders;
      • printing on forms;
      • watermarks, and more.
    • remote printing of documents via the Internet.
    A virtual printer can be used to check exactly how a document will look when printed.
    E-book formats

    (PDF, DjVu, CHM, EXE, TXT)

    1. PDF
    (Portable Document Format)
    A portable document format created by Adobe as a means of cross-platform data exchange. Although there are many ways to transfer a document, for example between Windows and Mac OS, Adobe PDF offers the most elegant solution. The format does not impose any restrictions on the appearance of the document - text, vector and raster graphics can be combined in any way.

    To view a PDF file, you don't need anything other than the file itself and Acrobat Reader.

    2. DjVu
    (Deja vu)
    Graphic format developed by AT&T, optimized for storing scanned documents. This format is of particular importance for transferring mathematical and technical literature in general to the network, where the abundance of diagrams and formulas makes recognition and translation into text format almost impossible. Currently, DjVu is becoming the de facto standard for electronic libraries of technical and scientific literature. From now on, there is a compromise option - converting scanned images into DjVu format (déjà vu). In this case, text and contrasting images are saved with a resolution of 300dpi, everything else is considered background and is saved with a reduced resolution. This allows you to compress an electronic document well without losing its readability. The file size of a scanned book is within a few megabytes, which is quite acceptable.

    To view, you must either install a browser plugin, or use one of the graphic file viewing programs that supports the DjVu format. To open a book, you need to run the WinDjView program, and then open the book from it.

    3.CHM
    (Compiled HTML Help)

    Help format developed by Microsoft in 1997. Initially, the CHM format was created to create a convenient and functional help system for Windows programs. This format is often used not only to create help systems for software, but also to publish books in electronic form. The strongest point of this format is the availability of full-text search in CHM files. In short, a CHM file is a set of compiled HTML files, i.e., in other words, something like an archive of Web pages. And the CHM file operates on the principle of an archive, compressing the data stored in it, but not all, but only text or containing text formatted using HTML tags (HTML, TXT, CSS and files of other formats).

    .chm files are opened by Internet Explorer.

    To create .CHM files, you can use free programs: Microsoft HTML Help Workshop, Htm2Chm.

    4. EXE EXE files appeared in DOS and then they migrated to Windows with minor changes. The EXE file format under Windows is called a PE file.

    An application that uses the .EXE file is most operating systems.

    5.TXT If, after extracting the text of a book from the archive, it is impossible to read it ("hieroglyphs" are displayed instead of text), download the Aditor text editor, which can determine encodings on the fly.
