Not all previews will be available to all Xbox Insiders. Participants can be eligible for previews based on certain criteria including their interests, tenure as an Xbox Insider, Xbox Insider XP, previous participation in Insider previews, and other factors.

I’m not eligible for any previews. Is that normal?

Not all Xbox Insiders will be eligible for previews upon downloading the Xbox Insider Hub. However, you can increase your chances of being selected for future previews by completing the quests, surveys, quick polls, and reporting issues you find by using Report a problem on Xbox One and Windows Feedback Hub for providing feedback on Gaming & Xbox experiences on Windows 10.

The Java version is regularly released in preview versions, also known as snapshots. In order to access them, you need to go to the “Launch Options” tab in the launcher and turn on the “Preview versions” switch.

After this, in the main window of the launcher, in the drop-down menu (arrow) you can select the desired version, which will be launched when you click on the “Play” button.

How to Install Minecraft Beta for Windows 10/Xbox One

A special Xbox Insider Hub app has been released for Windows 10 and Xbox One. This application allows you to switch active Minecraft version, which will then be downloaded from the app store in the usual way.

Only owners of a licensed digital copy of Minecraft will be able to take part in the beta testing program. Owners of the disc version will not be able to download the beta version.

  1. Go to the store Windows applications 10 or Xbox One.
  2. Find the Xbox Insider Hub app.

  7. After some time (usually about 1 minute, the beta version will start downloading from the app store)

Note: Sometimes it is not possible to return to the release version of the game. One of possible solutions this problem is described.

How to Install Minecraft Beta for Android

The beta version of Minecraft for Android is also released regularly. The easiest way to join the testing program is to do so using the appropriate function in the store Google Play. Naturally, you must be the owner of a licensed digital copy of Minecraft for Android.

The procedure for installing the beta version will be as follows.

  1. You need to launch GooglePlay directly on your device and find Minecraft in it.
  2. Scroll almost to the end of the game description.
  3. An invitation to participate in testing is posted there.
  4. Here you need to click the “Join” button
  5. After some time (the wait may take a long time and you can speed it up by deleting the current version of the game), the beta version of the game will be downloaded to your device.

You can exit the testing program in a similar way.

By the way, you can connect to the beta testing program without using GooglePlay on your device. If it is more convenient for you to work with the GooglePlay website on a PC, then you can use the instructions given.

Are you participating in testing? - Report bugs!

What is all this for? The main goal is not to satisfy our curiosity, but to get players who participate in beta testing to report bugs. The developers will then be able to fix them, and the release will be reliable and stable.

You can report bugs on the official bug tracker

Selecting the appropriate update channel

Description of update channels

The frequency of receiving test builds of Insider Preview is determined by update channels (or “update circles”). Each update channel offers a different level of build stability and comes with a specific frequency of availability of new builds.

Channels are used to assess quality software as new features and components are delivered to a wider audience of Insiders. If the build successfully passes automated testing in the laboratory, then Microsoft releases a new feature, application, etc. for the channel at the most frequent intervals. Evaluation testing of the build will continue until the criteria for moving the build to another update channel are met. To help deliver builds to Windows Insiders more quickly, Microsoft has changed how builds are promoted across different update channels, changed the criteria for moving a build from one channel to another, and added new channel updates.

Early Access (Fast Ring)

The main advantage of using the Early Access channel is that you are the first to receive new features and components and therefore the first to provide feedback on them. On the other hand, you must be prepared to face big amount problems, glitches and malfunctions that can disrupt your activity and require serious measures to correct.

At the end of 2019, Microsoft decided to overhaul its Windows 10 development and testing processes as part of the Windows Insider program. The company will now no longer tie preview builds delivered to the Early Access channel to a specific edition of Windows 10. This means that Quick Ring preview builds may include features that may not be available in the next public version of the OS.

Since each build is tested in the laboratory on a limited number of devices before release, there is a chance that some functions may not work on devices with a certain configuration. If you encounter a serious system performance issue, report the issue to the Feedback Hub app or the Windows Insider forums and be prepared to perform a complete rebuild. Windows installation using Media Creation Tool.

Late access (Slow Ring)

By using the Late Access update channel, you also get new updates and features in development, but these builds will have a higher level of stability. Test builds are sent to the Late Access channel after the Feedback from insiders of the Early Access channel, and this data was analyzed by Microsoft engineers. Late Access channel builds include fixes for major issues that may prevent test builds from being used on a daily basis. Build data comes from the Development branch and may still include bugs that will be fixed in future builds.

Release Preview Program

Release Preview Channel – great option for those users who want to use the current official release of Windows 10, but want to get early access to updates, new applications and drivers without the risks associated with receiving “Development” builds.

Release Preview is only available if Current version Windows matches the current production version. The easiest way to switch between the Development branch and the Production branch is to use the Media Creation Tool.

Switching to another update channel is easy. Go to menu Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program.

In the section, click on the current channel and select the type of preview builds and their frequency on your device: Late Access, Early Access, Release Preview Program or Go To.

Working with updates

Once you sign up for the Windows Insider program and install your first Insider Preview build, you will receive updates on your device connected to the program. During the development phase of a new version of Windows 10, the test build number will change with each update. There are two main types of assemblies that come with a device.

Basic assemblies

Major builds include various combinations of new features, updates to existing features, bug fixes, app improvements, and other changes. When a major build is released, the build version number changes to one. The sequence of build numbers may not be followed due to internal criteria for migrating a build to another update channel. For example, after build 19564, build 19569 may be released.

Additional (service) assemblies

Known as "service" or "cumulative" updates, these builds include a small set of changes to the current major build. Service builds usually include bug fixes and minor updates operating system and other minor improvements. For example, when a service build is released, the system version number may change from 19041.1 to 19041.21, and then to 19041.84.

What builds to expect on different update channels

Although there are no clear requirements for build numbers on each update channel, the following trend can be noted:

  • Early access: releases of main builds, a small number of service builds.
  • Late access: main builds with minor fixes.
  • Release Preview program: changes to the main build at a key moment and a subsequent series of service builds until the next release.

Computer recovery

If you are faced with a situation where you cannot continue to use your computer, you should take steps to restore your PC to a stable and operational state.

Users have several options available to them, such as just reinstalling the operating system or completely wiping your device. Go to menu Settings > Update & Security > Recovery, click “Start” in the “ section Restore your computer to its original state" Follow the onscreen prompts to perform a clean installation of the operating system.
