Annie May where she lives. I wish everyone who stopped by a good mood and continue to watch Russian YouTube

YES!: - Why do you think your audience loves you so much? What is special about your videos?

For unrealistic positivity and frankness: I’m not trying to be someone, I’m who I am, cheerful, sometimes with crazy ideas, but always honest and open. I create each video in a way that would be interesting to watch for me, my friends, acquaintances and everyone who came to my channel. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve come from school, work, or you have a day off, after watching the video your mood will definitely lift, and this is the most important thing for me)

YES!: - Why do you think the audience voted for you and gave you the Kids’ Choice Awards?

I am very pleased that Nickelodeon chose me for the nomination, because I love this channel and have been watching it since early childhood along with my viewers. There is a very close connection between me and my subscribers. They know that I devote all my time to them and create for them, I think they appreciate it. That’s why the coveted Kids’ Choice Awards blimp is one of my main awards.

YES!: - What does the Kids’ Choice Awards mean to you?

For me, this is, first of all, confirmation that I am doing everything right, because the audience likes what I do, and the award itself motivates me to continue and develop further in this direction.

YES!: - Who are you most grateful to for this victory?

To my parents, my boyfriend and, of course, to every subscriber who cast their vote. Mom asked all her friends and work colleagues to vote! This is incredibly cute and pleasant.

YES!: - Was it surprising for you that you received this award or were you 100 percent confident of winning?

I was shocked! Of course, I dreamed about this every day from the day voting started, but I wasn’t entirely sure that it was possible; my family and friends gave me confidence every day, I saw how my subscribers encouraged their friends to vote, but I still doubted, because I had worthy opponents.

YES!: - When did you realize that you wanted to do video blogging? How long ago did you create the channel?

The very first question that is asked to me in all interviews is, I always wanted to share my ideas with others, but my friends were constantly busy, studying, working, and I always didn’t have enough time and attention for me, so I decided to try my hand at video blogging. Then I knew almost nothing about this phenomenon - none of the most famous bloggers or anything like that, in general, was a beginner. So, on April 12, 2016, I got together and created a channel, without fully understanding what would happen there. But the main thing is to start, I decided) I wanted to bring benefit to people, so in fact, I started filming life hacks and DIY, but then I began to develop my genre, now I have moved into lifestyle to be closer to the audience.

YES!: - Who or what inspired you to create the channel? Do you have idols in video blogging?

The most important life hacker at that time was Slivki Show, he became my inspiration. On this moment there are no idols, there are very interesting people both on Russian-language and foreign Youtube, whose development I watch.

YES!: - Do you have a life motto or saying that you follow?

- “Never stand still!”

YES!: - Where do you get ideas and inspiration for new videos? What motivates you to work?

Most often this happens spontaneously, I go into the store and “oops” - an idea is born. Sometimes the subscribers themselves give very good ideas; they are incredibly talented.

YES!: - What goal did you set for yourself when you created the channel? What is most important to you in your occupation?

I wanted to get 500,000 subscribers by January 1, 2017, but I exceeded the goal 4 times) and I’m incredibly happy about it! The most important thing is interest, I am the kind of person that if I don’t like it, I won’t do it for anything! But if it’s mine, then I’ll plunge headlong

YES!: - What do you consider your main disadvantage and your main advantage?

IN Lately I spend little time on art and I think that’s wrong. And one of the advantages is determination, which always helps me in life.

YES!: - How much time does it take to create one video? Do you have a lot of free time left? What are you doing at this time?

It takes from 6 to 12 hours to make one video, there is almost no free time left, just to walk with the dog)

YES!: - Do you have any hobbies? extra work?

My hobby is singing in the bathroom))) I dream of learning to sing, but I just can’t find a teacher or the strength in myself to start practicing.

YES!: - How can you characterize your style (in clothes and makeup)?

A cheerful and mischievous hooligan with a touch of romanticism.

YES!: - What is important to you in a relationship? What qualities do you value most in young people?

Sincerity, one hundred percent trust. My boyfriend and I have been together for almost 9 years now, I am incredibly happy that I have a person who I can trust with everything, even more than my parents. This won’t surprise anyone, but I still appreciate kindness, sincerity and caring.

YES!: - How long do you think you will be interested in blogging? No thoughts, dreams of doing something else? What new projects are you planning?

Real name Annie May- Anna Yakimova. Anya does not answer why she chose this pseudonym. A girl was born in the Moscow region on March 24, 1994. Annie's family was not of high income. The girls had to infringe on themselves in some things. However, she understood everything and was not offended by her mother and grandmother. Annie May's mother had to work several jobs so that Annie could attend various educational clubs and schools.

Ani Medzhik is the owner of several channels on YouTube. She films horror stories, reviews of abandoned houses, and other strange things.

The content is humorous. The image of the blogger is the same.

The girl looks like a fairy from a children's fairy tale, and diligently maintains the image of a creative, but not entirely ordinary, person. In Anya you won’t find reviews of the Russian-language blogosphere fighting among themselves, let’s plays and music. But its content is unlike anything else.

Biography of Anya Medzhik

According to rumors, Anya Medzhik was born in the Moscow region, and lived there with her mother and grandmother until she was 14 years old. The father left the family, the mother worked a lot, the grandmother took care of the girl. In 2010, the family moved to Moscow, where Anya went to a prestigious school and mastered YouTube. Over time, the girl became a popular blogger.

Great? It's just a Cinderella story from the provinces. It would be if this was the real story of Anya Medzhik. In fact, this is the story of another blogger, Anya Mei. And in fan publics they are often confused.

Anya Medzhik hides her real name and surname. Perhaps the girl’s name really is Anna, but we don’t know her details. Another intrigue associated with this character is her age. Some sources claim that Anya Melzhik is a 21-year-old student. Others say that she is not even 19. Still others say that the girl is 29 years old, which she talked about in one of her videos.

The blogger’s marital status is also unknown. She is supposedly married and has children. But in reality, the husband and children do not appear anywhere in Vileo. And the Annie Melzhik Family channel is entirely dedicated to Anya’s beloved pets.

Who is this magical fairy? There is an opinion that the girl is a graduate of the acting department, and the network of blogs was created solely for self-expression, and not just for the sake of earning money.

Ani Magic and Ellie Dee

These bloggers are often confused or put on the same level. The thing is that both girls run channels with animals as side channels to the main one. Ellie Dee managed to disgrace her channel.

Medzhik just makes funny videos with her pets, and therefore is very popular on Instagram in public pages like Pets Fail.

The bloggers have never collaborated and have never made joint videos. Ani Medzhik cannot be called a social character at all.

Despite the image of a good fairy, the girl leads a rather isolated lifestyle, rarely appears at festivals and is not seen collaborating with other bloggers.

How much does Anya Medzhik earn?

And here the “magic fairy” treats beauty bloggers and rappers with their girlfriends. The channel has existed since December 22, 2016, and since that time, the main channel alone has brought the owner more than 22 thousand dollars.

And besides it, there is also a channel with viral videos about dogs and cats, a “family” channel and a couple of other projects. So the blogger’s total income is approaching the “reference” children's channels.

How does Annie Magick earn money? The first source is advertising on YouTube itself. The video format is different from what we have from other bloggers. The channel has both long videos of abandoned houses and some quests, as well as six-minute “funny horror stories.”

The content is selected in such a way that when you go to the channel, you will definitely watch a couple of videos. At the same time, Ani Medzhik competently promotes her creativity. Her second channel with pets always appears in the “suggested” channel, and the “family” channel too.

That is, a fan is usually subscribed to all three of Anya’s main channels. Each has a fairly large audience. 600-900 thousand people are subscribed to this girl’s different channels.

Channels have interesting segmentation. Jokes with animals are designed for an international audience. Cats and dogs are terribly cute, and you can look at them without any translation.

This allows us to say that Anya is a smart girl, and is trying to cover not only Russian-language YouTube, where advertising costs are relatively low, but also English-language segments, with much more expensive promotional materials.

Additional sources of income for Ani Magic

The video about Kwai did not appear by chance. Just like various reviews of filters and other “fun and interesting” things in Anya’s Instagram stories.

The girl is actively using the potential of a humorous channel for teenagers, and attracts advertisers seeking to reach this particular audience.

Anya Medzhik additionally:

  • promotes Instagram;
  • removes vines;
  • advertises products in stories.

Anya Medzhik’s Instagram is popular, and her audience varies from large, but not very solvent teenagers, to fully grown women with children. Anya Magic's blog has been recognized more than once as growing rapidly.

Haters of Ani Magic

It’s strange, but the entertainment blogger has quite a lot of haters. The girl is criticized for the lack of usefulness and meaning in the video.

Many people openly say that it is not normal for an almost 30-year-old person to appear in a video as a schoolgirl. Others say that Anya is “spoilting young people” with her videos about ghosts and scary jokes.

However, in Russian YouTube, this is one of the original blogs, not like the endless reviews of reviews by bloggers, video gamers, and athletes. Anya Medzhik has found her niche, and will surprise us more than once with high earnings and original and high-quality content.

The heroine of this review was a girl known on YouTube under the pseudonym Anny May. Her channel has exactly the same name, the registration date of which is April 12, 2016. And during this time, a young girl subscribed to the channel... 1,713,582 people! Anny May is a real phenomenon of Russian YouTube, because not everyone can gain such a massive audience, especially in a record short time.

Who is Anny May? Witch? Or a good analyzer of trending topics on YouTube? In my review, I will introduce you to the work of this girl and try to unravel the secret of her popularity.

As soon as we go to the Anny May channel, we see phenomenal performance - the girl consistently releases two videos a day. A blogger’s activity is the most important criterion for his popularity. The more often the videos are released, the more interesting the blogger becomes for his audience. However, activity alone is not enough; the quality of the content is also important.

What kind of videos does Anny May make? This is where Anya’s main advantage lies!

She's filming life hacks, DIY, challenges and pranks- the most popular content on YouTube. Such videos are not particularly intelligent, but they are easy to watch and, apparently, resonate well with people.

Although, it’s hard for me to imagine a person who would be pleased to watch a girl eat an onion and film it. But there are at least 61 thousand such people - that’s how many “likes” the video of Anny May eating onions received.

And the video of Anny May gorging herself on ten McDonald's burgers received 2,837,146 views and more than 100 thousand people liked the video. Here it is, the secret of popularity - create garbage, film it and post it on YouTube! In fact, it’s sad that such absolutely useless and downright stupid content is in demand. But we can’t help but praise Anny May, with what enthusiasm and acting admiration she suffers from bullshit on camera! And he does this every day!

Why are people interested in watching other people speed???

To be honest, Anny May pisses me off a little. Her stupid covers, her feigned admiration for stupid life hacks... What’s especially irritating is how at the beginning of each video Anya encourages you to subscribe to her channel.

Life hacking (from life hacking, English life hacking) - in slang means a little trick, “folk wisdom” or helpful advice, helping to solve everyday problems, thereby saving time.

Let me give you a few examples of life hacks that Anny May tested. Yes, she didn’t even invent them, but simply took advice already thought up by other people and brought it to life. Let's see what comes of it.

A slime that will help remove makeup from your face: take glue, makeup remover, mix and add some chemical substance (I couldn’t hear the chemical term from Annie Mae’s lips; if you’re interested, watch the video yourself).

By the way, the result of Annie Mae’s use of this slime turned out to be dubious, obviously not worth bothering with. Who would even make a slime like this when you can just take a cotton pad and makeup remover?

Next, Annie Mae will teach you how to make gelatin candies using bubble wrap. Let me remind you that a life hack is a tip designed to help you save time. And Annie spent more than half an hour making these dubious candies. And they are questionable, because I doubt that gelatin (yes, this is the only ingredient) candies with food coloring can be tasty. Moreover, you need to purchase a syringe somewhere... In general, Annie reviews such stupid and useless life hacks, and even admires them so feignedly that she cannot help but cause irritation.

You can meet other “incredible” life hacks on her channel. I'll move on to the next section - DIY.

DIY(from Do It Yourself - “do it yourself”) - a type of activity that includes independent production, repair, improvement of appliances, furniture, clothing, equipment and other consumer items.

This is a video where Annie shows how to make some cool things, in her opinion. But, despite the fact that I am dubious about the practical benefits of such things, it might be of interest to, for example, a child who would benefit from developing creativity and fine motor skills.

I have one big complaint about this type of video. The fact is that Annie uses a cunning trick - she puts a photograph on the cover, supposedly with a very cool result, but in reality the result is completely different.

Here are some photos from the "expectation" / "reality" series. It’s not hard to guess that Annie is processing the photo on the cover using Photoshop in order to interest a potential viewer, but in the end to deceive.

In conclusion, I would like to draw the following conclusion.

Why did Anny May achieve such popularity in a short time?

1) Trending videos. Lifehacks, DIY and other videos from Annie’s arsenal are YouTube trends that, with some shenanigans (see the following points), collect a huge number of views.

2) Using clickbait. Loud title + intriguing cover = views.

Clickbait is a way of constructing a headline that allows the meaning of the text to be distorted in order to interest the reader.

In other words, these are videos that intrigue a potential viewer with a shocking cover or a loud title. I have a negative attitude towards the use of clickbait, because it is a kind of deception of the viewer. This is like cheating on Irecommend, low and pathetic.

3) The frequency of the video release does not allow viewers to “cool down” to Annie Mae’s activities.

Is Anny May worth watching? My answer is yes, if you have nothing to do or want to give your brain a rest. You can watch some videos to laugh at the stupidity of some life hacks and tips. But I will not recommend this channel for viewing, because I have some kind of personal dislike for content in this format.

Why did I give it 3 stars? This is due to some advantages of the channel (yes, they still exist). This is both the frequency of the video and competent editing, good quality shooting. It is clear that Anny May is trying to make quality videos, and for these efforts I will give such a high score.

In order to make screenshots for this review, I corrected the video speed to 0.5 and at this speed it looked like Annie was smoking some kind of weed. In general, it turned out that her videos were much more fun to watch this way.

That's all I wanted to say.

Thank you for your attention!
