Music. One word, but a huge number of meanings and concepts. It has been adjacent to humans since ancient times. Each new century brought something fresh and unusual to this layer of culture. The only thing that changed little was musical instruments. But the 20th century made its own adjustments to the field of music. New devices have appeared that create electronic music; storage systems such as cassette tapes, records and compact discs. Eventually, the radio was invented, thanks to which almost anyone could get involved with music.

Of course, in the last decade the field has developed even more rapidly. Various streaming services have appeared, and everyone has a smartphone in their pocket that can store hundreds of music tracks. But we need to bring all this beauty to our ears. A huge variety of headphones can help with this. These include overhead models, monitor models, and in-ear models. In this article we will talk about one of the most popular classes - vacuum headphones, which are also called “plugs”. These models are inserted into the ear canal, which allows for excellent isolation from external noise and loud, high-quality sound.

Of course, any class has its own subgroups, and therefore we will analyze not only traditional wired models, but also the currently fashionable Bluetooth headphones. Details, as usual, are in our rating.

The best inexpensive vacuum headphones: budget up to 1000 rubles.

Let's start with the most popular category among the population. It just so happens that the majority do not consider it necessary to pay over 1000 rubles for headphones. They claim that plugs for 300 rubles are completely satisfied with their sound. The peculiarities of sound perception are different for everyone, and therefore we will not argue with this thesis. In the end, even in the segment of budget vacuum headphones there are really worthwhile models with high-quality sound and high quality materials and workmanship.

3 JBL C100SI

Clear sound
Country: USA
Average price: 555 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.5

Cool inexpensive vacuum headphones from JBL. The model reproduces frequencies from 20 to 20,000 Hz with an impedance of 16 Ohms. Due to their low resistance, the plugs are perfect for the phone - the volume does not suffer. The diameter of the membrane is 9 mm, which is considered a lot for a vacuum model. Therefore, there are healthy, high-quality bass here. The sound is clear and beautiful - don't expect any artificial decoration, but you can achieve velvety quality by passing the music through equalizer filters.

In reviews, users complain about the quality of the wire - short, constantly tangled, stiff; and on the ear pads - they are completely budget-friendly. If possible, use ear pads from expensive vacuum headphones - this will greatly improve the melody.

2 Sony MDR-EX15AP

The only headphones with a microphone
A country: Japan (made in Vietnam)
Average price: 622 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.7

What Sony really knows how to do is music devices. Moreover, the company is good not only in the top segment, but also in the field of budget headphones. In terms of price, the MDR-EX15AP comes close to the upper limit of this category, but in return they offer a couple of very useful pluses. The main one is the presence of a remote control with a microphone. Using it, it’s convenient to switch songs and answer calls. Fortunately, the sound recording quality here is at a fairly high level. It is also worth noting the very low weight of the headphones - only 3 grams. Thanks to this, discomfort does not occur even after several hours of wearing. In general, an excellent model for those who need not just headphones, but a full-fledged headset.

Advantages:

  • Have a microphone
  • Lowest weight (3 g)
  • There is a small protrusion on one of the “ears”, which allows you to blindly determine where the left is and where the right is
  • Gold plated connectors

Flaws:

  • The wire becomes dull in the cold
  • Bass is not deep and powerful enough

1 Panasonic RP-HJE125

Best sound
A country: Japan (made in China)
Average price: 500 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.7

The Japanese know how to make technology. And we are talking not only about high-tech things like robots, but also about ordinary headphones. The RP-HJE125 model from Panasonic can easily be called an icon of budget headphones. Of course, they look downright cheap, but they recoup every penny invested in them twice as much. Most users agree that these headphones reproduce bass and mids perfectly, while not suppressing high frequencies, as is usually the case with earplugs. Yes, you can complain about the lack of a microphone, the wire becoming dull in the cold, or something else, but the sound and performance quality here are really good.

Advantages:

  • Great sound
  • Reliability is slightly better than competitors
  • Good sound insulation
  • L-shaped plug
  • Largest frequency range

Flaws:

  • The wire becomes stiff in the cold

The best wired vacuum headphones: price-quality

In the second category, we will pay attention to vacuum headphones, which are able to produce higher quality sound than their competitors from the previous section. Of course, you shouldn’t expect anything supernatural, but with normal equipment these kids are able to provide a truly impressive picture. They are still far from audiophile solutions, but all the heroes in the rating will satisfy ordinary music lovers without any problems.

3 Marshall Mode EQ

The most stylish
A country: UK (manufactured in China)
Average price: 3140 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.7

Some headphones try to be as inconspicuous as possible, while others shout about themselves at every corner. But there are also models, like Mode EQ, which can be called elegant and stylish. It is the combination of black soft-touch plastic and gold elements in Mode EQ that attracts attention in the first place. At the same time, the designers also thought about convenience: the remote control has a small clip for attaching to clothing, and a spring near the connector protects the wire from bending in the most “popular” place. A distinctive feature of the model is a small lever on the remote control that changes the sound settings. Sort of built-in equalizer presets. One is balanced, suitable for almost any music, the second is for Hip-Hop, Dubstep and other bass-heavy music. It is worth considering that with the latter mode the sound becomes a little compressed.

Advantages:

  • Great sound
  • The presence of a lever for switching between equalizer presets
  • Stylish appearance
  • High quality materials and workmanship

2 Xiaomi Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro HD

Hybrid technology
Country: China
Average price: 1920 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.8

Inexpensive headphones from China, inside of which two drivers work at once: one is dynamic, found in the vast majority of vacuum and full-size headphones, the other is reinforcement, used mainly in micro-earphones. The armature chip ensures high-fidelity music transmission, and it is thanks to it that owners of Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro HD enjoy high-quality sound. The bass is tight and detailed, the highs are bright and rich.

Due to the rather high impedance of 32 Ohms (in reviews, users express suspicions that the real impedance value is 40 Ohms), the headphones are not very suitable for a phone without a developed sound component. The headphones also require warming up - on the second or third day they sound much better than right out of the box.

1 Sennheiser CX 300-II

The best combination of price and quality. User selection
A country: Germany (manufactured in China)
Average price: 1519 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.8

To understand how popular the “three hundredth” model is, just look at the number of reviews on the “Market” - there are more than 900 of them! This is due not only to good sound quality with pronounced bass, but also to excellent reliability. Some users claim that their headphones play as before even after an hour of washing in hot water. The only weak point of the CX 300-II is the wire near the plug, which often breaks.

Advantages:

  • Good sound quality, pronounced bass
  • Excellent reliability
  • Low cost

Flaws:

  • The wire near the plug may fray during prolonged careless use.

The best wireless vacuum headphones

Almost all modern devices have wireless versions. Moreover, these can be not only compact, energy-efficient computer mice, but also powerful construction tools. Of course, headphones are also wireless. A few years ago, such models were exclusively on-ear or full-size, and the sound quality was mediocre. Now the situation has changed noticeably. Batteries have become compact and capacious enough to provide energy to small “plugs” for several days, and new technologies for transmitting audio via Bluetooth do not compress the track so much, which means the sound quality is much better.

3 Meizu EP51

Rich equipment
Country: China
Average price: 1950 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.5

Headphones from the Chinese surprise again. The WOW effect is ensured already upon unpacking, because the manufacturer was not greedy and included a high-quality case and charging cable in the package. This is something you rarely see even in more expensive models. The second thing you notice is the very low weight, due to which they are practically not felt on the neck and ears. Yes, and they hold up great. And all this for less than 3 thousand rubles! The only, but very serious problem is the sound. He's not bad, but I wouldn't dare call him good. In general, the EP51 is an excellent model for those who occasionally play sports, hate wires, but are not very demanding on sound.

Advantages:

  • Rich equipment
  • Lowest cost
  • Very low weight - only 15 grams
  • Fits perfectly in the ears, and there are magnets to secure it around the neck.

Rating (2019): 4.5

Another AirPods killer with great prospects. The model is budget-friendly when compared to its real competitors. Meizu has created truly wireless vacuum headphones with a microphone, a storage and charging case, water protection and rich sound.

Bluetooth 4.2 communicates well with the phone. The set includes five pairs of interchangeable ear pads. The battery built into the headphones lasts for three hours, and the battery in the case can extend the enjoyment of your favorite music up to 12 hours. An impedance of 16 Ohms gets along well with a smartphone and the simplest player. This is a new model, so it’s too early to judge the reliability and durability of the audio device. But given the inexpensive price for a full set of innovations, Meizu POP headphones are sure to gain respect and fame among music lovers and not only.

1 Sony WF-SP700N

The most functional
Country: Japan
Average price: 9001 rub.
Rating (2019): 5.0

Vacuum wireless headphones working via Bluetooth. This is the best model among truly wireless models. The “plugs” only last three hours on battery power, but boast active noise cancellation (it’s comfortable to listen to music on the subway), support for iPhone and AAC codecs (multi-channel music encoding algorithm), water protection, and even NFC support.

The sound is wonderful. In the reviews, users claim that they are ready to forgive Sony the high price, the long charging time, and the rather large case for the sake of such sound. Yes, the headphones are not budget, but in terms of functionality and other goodies they are superior to competitors from Apple and Samsung.

The best vacuum headphones with microphone

These are “plugs” that can be used as a headset - communicate through them on the phone and even give voice commands to a virtual assistant. 3 Sony WI-C300

Better autonomy. NFC support
Country: Japan
Average price: 1990 rub.
Rating (2019): 4.5

The best inexpensive Bluetooth headphones with NFC. You won’t be able to pay for a purchase in a store with headphones, but you can easily contact your phone (also with an NFC module) instantly. Reviews are full of epithets about sound quality, especially bass. But there is one condition - change the ear pads; the manufacturer put frankly budget pads in the box that do not allow you to reveal the potential of the model.

The headphones play music for 8 hours straight, and only after that they need to be charged. The process, by the way, is short-lived - after two hours the charge level will reach 100%. The owners are dissatisfied with the ergonomics - the control panel with the battery is quite heavy and, if you touch it, the position of the “droplet” in the left ear changes. Even so, the WI-C300 is one of the best deals on the vacuum headphone market.

1 Beats Beats X Wireless

Fast charging
Country: USA

Bluetooth headphones from a famous American manufacturer. There is excellent sound insulation, a perfectly working headset and clear, detailed sound. In reviews, the owners of this model claim that it is more pleasant to listen to music in it than in Sinheisers or Koss from the same price category. They speak positively about the convenient form factor and symmetrical neck cord.

BeatsX Wireless cannot be classified as inexpensive - it is a pre-flagship option with high build quality, expensive design and good sound. I'm especially pleased with the fast charging - five minutes with the cable connected is enough for one and a half to two hours of work. The model charges up to 100% in a little less than an hour. The model works perfectly with an Apple phone - pairing is instant, the connection is not interrupted. The best relatively inexpensive model for those who value sound quality and lead an active lifestyle. Numerous positive reviews hint that the device fits perfectly into the sports scenario. The wire is of optimal length, the headband is so soft and delicate that you can’t feel it on your neck. The battery lasts 10 hours, which also gives the manufacturer a dozen points. The Koreans also pleased us with the sound quality - straight from the box, without an equalizer, the music plays atmospheric, multifaceted and even slightly wild.

This is the best option for those who care about sound quality, but who do not want to put up with wired options due to their not the best ergonomics in sport mode. U Flex will not disappoint with its sound - they play no worse than wired headphones from the mid-price range.

1. Sennheiser MX 170

Budget headphones, but decent quality. They have an advantage in high frequencies, but they also have bass, although it is better not to listen to the device at maximum volume, otherwise the bass will be blocked. But the design details have a weak link - there is practically no sound insulation, although ear pads are included in the kit. And a thin vulnerable cord.

Advantages:

  • sound of acceptable quality;
  • low cost (410 rubles).

Flaws:

  • power restrictions;
  • in the cold the cord becomes dull;
  • There is no protection where the cord exits the housing.

3. CGPods 5

CGPods are budget models, but they provide very decent sound quality - almost at the level of two or three times more expensive models. Moreover, each earphone can work as a separate headset. The charger case (the battery is enough for 3 recharges) is made of heavy-duty aircraft aluminum. And can withstand a load of 100 kg. The case has a very clever rotary opening-closing mechanism (protection from shocks and falls, as well as from spontaneous opening of the case). The best thing about CGPods is that they are water resistant. Even Apple’s competitor cannot boast of this. CaseGuru CGPods 5 TWS headphones are the dark horse of this list. This relatively new product on the market has already firmly taken a prominent place in the niche of budget headphones. In addition to dark (black), the headphones are available in white.

We have reviewed the Top 15 best in-ear, in-ear, on-ear and over-ear headphones. This information will help people who decide to buy this device for themselves to choose it correctly.

In 2016, the world-famous company Apple introduced its unique new product - AirPods. These wireless headphones are compatible with any branded device, and also reproduce sound from devices that support Bluetooth 4.0 and higher. Among fans of the brand, they have become a real bestseller, even despite some design “features”. Until 2019, the American company introduced the second generation to the world with a corresponding postscript to the name. At the beginning of the article, let's look at the original AirPods 2 and we will understand their features, advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of AirPods 2 headphones are considered:

  • mobility;
  • compactness;
  • 5 hours of operation without recharging;
  • 15 minutes in the case – plus 3 hours of work;
  • ease of control: voice commands, no tapping;
  • quality of the charging case;
  • latest version of Bluetooth;
  • quick connection of headphones to branded devices;
  • there is wireless charging;
  • indicator light on the front of the case;
  • build quality.

At the same time, users note and AirPods 2 disadvantages:

  • the device works well only with iOS 10 software;
  • the sound quality (in particular, when listening to music) does not correspond to the very high cost of the device (over $150);
  • voice control of playback in noisy conditions is very inconvenient,
  • insufficiently secure fit in the ear;
  • no sound insulation or noise reduction;
  • no choice of body color;
  • do not respond to gestures;
  • there is no moisture protection.

The manufacturer decided not to experiment with the design at all - which put an end to the purchase of AirPods 2 for those fans of the brand for whom the first generation of headphones was not suitable due to their anatomical features.

Despite the popularity of both generations of AirPods, many buyers have decided to find an alternative to this advanced device for the reasons described above. Our material will help such buyers with their choice. Among the “candidates” you can find both in-ear “ears” and designer analogues of AirPods - traditional (but also TWS, i.e. true wireless speakers) earbuds.

Single word: Apple AirPods Pro

Unlike their “younger brothers”, Apple AirPods Pro play (in every sense) in a completely different league - they are in-ear plugs, not earbuds - and at least because of this they sound noticeably better than regular AirPods.

The Apple company tried to stuff its latest (at the moment) audio brainchild to the maximum:

  • here is a set of external and internal microphones (for maximum effective noise reduction)
  • the so-called “transparent” mode allows, on the contrary, to hear your surroundings well without removing the headphones
  • Of course, Apple Siri support
  • audio sharing
  • more than modern H1 audio chip, responsible for minimal audio transmission delays
  • ability to listen to text messages through headphones
  • automatic connection to the device
  • pressure equalization system
  • and, as icing on the cake, fast charging: 5 minutes in the case gives 1 hour of playback.

It’s a pity that all these characteristics and bright advantages for many are covered by the price - from 16 thousand rubles. All current prices are in the block below.

Therefore, below we present our TOP of the best alternatives to Airpods in different price categories.

How to choose in-ear headphones (“plugs”)

  1. Since users looking for an alternative to AirPods are price-sensitive, it's important to understand what factors influence the cost of wireless headphones:
    • location and version of built-in Bluetooth modules;
    • battery capacity and charging features;
    • quality of additional device control sensors;
    • built-in memory;
    • the presence of codecs that improve sound quality (such as aptX);
    • quality of microphones;
    • soundproofing;
    • noise suppression;
    • trademark;
    • materials.

Thus, the large price spread of models depends on the above variables. Choose headphones based on the conditions of use and those components that are really important to you.

  1. The location of the Bluetooth module in one “ear” (and its quality) in some models affects communication with the phone/other source. So, if the receiver is in the right earphone and the phone is in the left pocket, some devices have problems with the signal. If you need such headphones for home use, then they will do just fine; but they are unlikely to be suitable for driving on the street.
  2. Not all wireless AirPods alternatives are noise-cancelling, and not all are perfectly soundproof. By the way, owners of the original Apple model also point out these errors. Therefore, when planning to use the device on public transport in order to isolate yourself from the outside world, and at the same time not disturb anyone, make sure that the device will satisfy your needs.
  3. If long battery life is important to you, note that most wireless in-ear headphones of this type range from 3 to 5 hours. Absolute mobility has such disadvantages.
  4. The ease of fitting in the ears must be checked. Some models have a strict “fit” in one position. Some can be rotated inside the ear. Sometimes this affects the sound quality and always affects the overall wearing comfort.

TOP 17 best wireless earbuds, alternatives to AirPods

Let's take a look at ten of the best AirPods alternatives at several price points. From the first models in the review, the cost will rise to more expensive ones. Let’s complete our selection with three models that can actually be called “competitors” of AirPods.

“Budget” (up to 5000 rubles)

From the first version, the CGPods 5.0 headphones inherited a cylindrical case made of durable aircraft aluminum (hello to plastic competitors) with an original rotary opening design. The principle of its operation is described in the video below.

Such a case will not accidentally open in a bag or pocket.

The operating time is sufficient for most tasks: 4 hours of activity of the headphones themselves, they can be charged three more times from the case. As a result, 17 hours of operation are claimed – adjusted for the charging time, of course.

Ergonomics is a special word: soft, replaceable ear pads are complemented by silicone (also removable) “cartilage”, thanks to which the earphone is installed very tightly in the workplace and does not fall out even under heavy loads. By the way, IPX6 protection allows you not only to just play sports (read “sweat”), but also, for example, to take a shower in them. Swimming, unfortunately, is not recommended.

Finally, the controls: touch panels support the entire list of possible tasks: pause and play, switch tracks, change volume.

Well, sound – what could be more important when choosing a good alternative to Apple AirPods? The manufacturer did not focus on the bass component, trying to reveal the entire sound spectrum. It turned out well. Of course, true music lovers will find weak points - but for ordinary life this is not only “behind the eyes” - but will also allow you to enjoy tracks that seem to be already known to the last note in a new way.

Characteristics:

  • Frequency range: 20-20000 Hz;

  • Operating time: 4 hours (+13 hours from the battery in the case);
  • Charging time: 1 hour;
  • Waterproof: IPX6;
  • Equipment: cable, aluminum charging case, silicone ear pads (3 pairs), silicone spacers (2 pairs);
  • Color: black, white

  • charge indicator on the case;
  • high-quality sound in all ranges;
  • good battery life (up to 17 hours with a case);
  • comfortable fit;
  • do not fall out of the ears;
  • good for sports;
  • nice design - no attempts to clone AirPods;
  • light weight - about 5 g;
  • Bluetooth 5.0;
  • water protection according to IPX6;
  • good sound insulation;
  • instant pairing with a smartphone;
  • instructions in Russian;
  • official direct warranty 1 year.

Flaws:

  • MicroUSB port on the case (I would like USB Type-C);
  • the box cannot be called a gift;
  • The case is not always convenient to open with one hand.

Xiaomi Redmi AirDots (Mi True Wireless Earbuds Basic)

Bluetooth headphones with microphone, support iPhone and phone models running Android OS. They support standard profiles: A2DP, AVRCP, HandsFree, Headset. By charging the batteries in 2 hours, you can enjoy music for about 4 hours. The battery life in the case, thanks to the large battery capacity, is 12 hours. Standby time: 150 hours. Using the button you can pause/play tracks and answer calls. It is supposed to connect to the phone via a microUSB connector, but the cable as such is not included in the kit.

A flat case made of matte plastic weighing only 35.4 g will fit into a lady's clutch or pocket. Additionally, the manufacturer equipped these headphones with intelligent environmental noise reduction (DSP), protection against accidental clicks; moisture protection - class IPX4.

The order in which you take it out of the case and turn it on is important: first the right earphone, then the left. It is necessary to turn it off and put it in the case in the same order (if you put the left one in first, the right one will continue to work).

Xiaomi Mi AirDots Pro

A more “advanced” model, which costs almost twice as much as the previous one. However, these headphones support an earlier version - Bluetooth 4.2. The “feature” of the model is the active noise reduction system, thanks to which when talking in these headphones, the interlocutor hears you, and not the surrounding noise. The manufacturer stated an autonomy of 3 hours on a single charge, and up to 10 hours with recharging from a case with a capacity of 410 mAh.

This model is suitable for sports, as it has an IPX4 waterproof standard.

Using these headphones takes some getting used to: control is done solely by tapping on the touch panel of each headphone. This is how you control playback and calls (right earphone), voice assistant and noise reduction (left earphone).

Unlike many competitors, this model charges via a USB Type-C port.

Perhaps, in addition to the low price, the unconditional advantage of this model is the battery life of the device - 4 hours. Its own charging base charges the battery in just 1 hour. The sound quality of the headphones is quite decent, however, according to reviews from many users, the model does not have a good connection to the source.

The sound sometimes disappears when you turn your head and the smartphone is in a pocket opposite to the Bluetooth module, which is located in the right earpiece. Most buyers like the good fit in the ears and the nice, convenient case.

Characteristics:
