Servers do not open. The browser does not open pages: solutions to the problem. Reset your network connection settings

Increasingly, users when working with a computer have to face such a problem as: " Pages in no browser (Opera, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer) do not open, but also The Internet works, ICQ and Skype too.”

The reason for this situation may be a virus that you “picked up” on not very reliable sites. The main thing to do in in this case– is to install antivirus program, with which you need to scan the entire system. If, after running the antivirus, browsers still do not open sites, you need to perform the following steps.

Check your Internet connection and DNS settings

First try this option: go to the network control center and shared access Windows, go to “Change adapter settings”, right-click on the Internet connection and click “Properties”.

After that, in the field where it says “The marked components are used by this connection”, select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”, and then click the “Properties” button.

The Internet Protocol properties for almost all providers should include “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain a DNS server address automatically.” If this is not the case, change the settings. Then in command line running as administrator, enter ipconfig /flushdns (after this you need to press Enter).

Failed to connect to the proxy server and more

If the browser writes that it was unable to connect to the proxy server, and even if it does not write this, but simply timed out waiting for the page to load, check another important setting Internet connection, which may be causing this problem.

Go to the panel Windows management, make sure that the “View” item has large or small icons, and then select “Internet Options” or “Internet Options” (depending on whether you have Windows 7 or Windows 8).

When you open it, go to the “Connections” tab and click the “Network Settings” button and see what’s there.

If you see that the proxy server settings indicate that you need to use a proxy server or instead of " Automatic detection parameters" is "Use script automatic settings", remove these items. It may be that after you restart the computer, they will appear again, which means that there are viruses or malware on the computer, then I will write how you can remove them.

And try opening the page in the browser again, if the sites open, then that’s great, but if not, then let’s try other methods.

In the next step, you need to open the command line and enter the command netsh winsock reset and restart your PC.

Correction Windows registry

Nothing helped and still you can’t go anywhere in any browser? We continue to solve the problem. Now we need the Windows Registry Editor:

Launch the registry editor by pressing the key Windows icon and R on your keyboard. A window will appear in which you enter regedit. Go to the folder (in the registry) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Windows\ and if you see the Appinit_DLLs parameter on the right, then look where its value leads (better write it down), and then right-click on it, click “Edit” and erase what is written there (if there is something there).

After you have changed Appinit_DLLs, close the registry editor, restart Windows and try again to launch the browser and open a website.

Emergency computer help -We work for you!

In this article we will look at solutions to the problem when some sites do not open on the computer. A popular problem that often appears when connecting via a router, Wi-Fi, or cable. In principle, the connection method is not important. The result is always the same - some pages in the browser simply stopped opening. Many people have this problem when connecting to new network, after installing the router, or just at some point.

I also noticed that most often they stop opening search engines (Yandex, Google, and all their services), social media (VKontakte, Facebook, Odnoklassn), and others popular networks. It doesn’t matter, the main thing is that access to some site has been lost, and this problem needs to be fixed. In fact, there are many reasons why some sites do not open. The problem may be either in the computer itself or in the router. (if the Internet is connected through it).

When you cannot get to a certain site, but other sites open normally, then in any case some kind of error or message appears in your browser. Most likely, the site takes a long time to load and an error appears "The page is not available" (ERR_ TIMED_OUT, ERR_CONNECTION_ CLOSED). It all depends on the browser and the reason why there is no access to the site.

At the same time, the Internet is connected, programs like Skype work, and other pages open perfectly. In some cases, not a single site opens.

Notice the message that appears when you try to open desired page. Perhaps the Internet provider itself has limited access to the site you want to access. In this case, there will be a message that access is closed or limited. The site is blocked.

Also, very often antiviruses and firewalls block sites that are in their database of malicious sites. In this case, it will also not be difficult to guess that the address is blocked by an antivirus. There will be a logo and description. If you still want to access the site, you need to disable the antivirus, or add the address to the firewall exceptions. It's not always safe. The browsers themselves can also block malicious sites.

If everything opened fine before, then remember what you did before the problem appeared. Maybe they changed some settings or installed programs. Very often, after installing some programs, problems appear with access to sites.

Reasons why some sites most often do not open

I'll start with the most popular, in my opinion. Let's look at the solutions in the same order.

  • Due to problems with DNS addresses.
  • Pages may not open due to problems in the hosts file.
  • The TCP/IP protocol has failed.
  • Viruses and malware.
  • Incorrect values in the Windows registry.
  • Some sites may not open due to an incorrect MTU value.

No access to some sites: change DNS addresses

According to my observations, some pages most often do not open precisely because of problems with DNS addresses. As a rule, the Internet service provider issues DNS automatically. I advise you to set static DNS addresses. Now I will show you how to do this in Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. You can also change these addresses to mobile devices, or in Wi-Fi settings router.

Right-click on the Internet connection icon (in the tray), and select Network and Sharing Center. Next select Change adapter settings.

Right-click on the adapter through which you are connected to the Internet and select Properties. If the Internet is via Wi-Fi, then this is a Wireless network connection. And if via cable, then Connection via local network(Ethernet on Windows 10) Select an item Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and click on the button properties. Place the switch near Use the following DNS server addresses, and indicate the following addresses: 8.8.8.8 , 8.8.4.4 (as in the screenshot below). Click Ok.

Reboot the computer and check the operation.

Check the hosts file if pages do not open in the browser

The hosts file in Windows is truly a weak point. Many viruses make changes to the hosts file without problems. And if you enter website addresses in this file, they will stop opening. Therefore, we need to check and, if necessary, clean the hosts file. Often in the hosts file you can see the registered addresses of the sites vk.com, ok.ru, etc. They should not be there.

Go to address C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc open the file hosts, and select a program to watch Notebook. Standard, clean file looks something like this:

If you see any third-party website addresses there that you cannot open, then you need to delete them. Or copy the standard contents of the hosts file and replace the contents of your file with it. You can also download a ready-made, clean file and simply replace it. I will write in more detail about working with the hosts file in a separate instruction.

Resetting the TCP/IP protocol settings

Another tip is to reset the TCP/IP protocol parameters. We do this: press the key combination Win+R, enter the command cmd and press Ok.

A command prompt will open. Copy and paste the command into it:

Press Enter to execute it. The following result should appear:

We restart the computer and try to open sites that you did not open.

Viruses and malware can block access to websites

There are many viruses that prevent access to certain sites. They usually do this through the same hosts file, registry entries, or changing TCP/IP parameters. If you suspect that problems with opening some sites are due to a virus, then be sure to check your computer. This can be done installed antivirus (if it exists, if not, install it). Also, I would recommend checking the system with the AVZ utility, or Dr.Web CureIt (or better yet, both).

The exact same problem may appear after installing some programs. Basically, these are programs that allow you to download videos and music from social networks (VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, etc.). Just remove these programs and check your computer for viruses.

You can also try opening the site from a different browser. Install latest version Opera browser, Chrome, etc.

Websites won't open - check the Windows registry

Press the keyboard shortcut Win+R, enter the command regedit, and press Ok.

The Windows Registry Editor will open. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows. There will be a parameter Applnit_DLLs. If there is no value opposite it, then everything is fine. If some value is set there, then right-click on Applnit_DLLs and select edit.

Remove the value and click Ok.

You can also go to the address specified in the “Value” field and delete the file.

Checking and changing the MTU parameter

There is such a parameter as MTU. I won’t tell you now what it is and why it is needed. But, if this parameter is set incorrectly, then some sites simply do not open in the browser. Or they open not quite correctly, not completely.

If you are connected via a router, then change the MTU in the router settings, on the page with Internet connection settings. There is definitely such a point there. You can check with your Internet provider what value to indicate there. Or, just experiment. By default, the router settings are most likely set to 1500 (it changes depending on what type of Internet connection the provider uses). You can try changing it to 1460, or 1420. If you have Internet via a 3G USB modem, then install 1476.

This is how the MTU changes on a Tp-Link router:

Conclusion

There are many solutions; for some, changing DNS helps, for others, clearing the hosts file, or something else. We need to try, don’t give up, and victory will be ours :)

I think that after these steps, you were able to access a site that had not opened before. Share your results in the comments and write what helped. Ask questions, I will try to help.

Are you having trouble loading your website? Don't worry - we're here to help you. This article will show you how to fix the problem so you can get back to surfing the Internet.

First let's determine what the problem is

With a little detective work, we can narrow down our problem.

  1. Open new tab and check if you can load another website like google.com or mozilla.org.
  2. Launch another browser, for example Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge Safari Google Chrome and try opening the site you are having problems with.

The problem only occurs on certain websites

If you see one of the following error messages, it may be due to a problem with the Firefox cache:

  • The connection was interrupted
  • The connection was reset
  • Connection timed out

Try clearing Firefox cookies and cache

Complete these steps and then reload the website you are having problems with.

If cleaning cookies and Firefox cache didn't help, this is probably a sign that the problem lies with the website itself. In this case, all you have to do is wait until the problem is fixed. With large websites like Twitter or Facebook, this can only take a few minutes.

If you don't see any of the error messages described above, check to see if your problem fits one of the specific problems listed below:

The website loads but does not work correctly

If a website doesn't look right or doesn't work the way it's supposed to, you should review the following articles:

The problem only occurs on a secure (https) website

Look at the web address in the address bar. It starts with https://(pay attention to "s")? If so, check to see if you receive the following error messages:

The problem only occurs in Firefox

If your other web browser works fine, one of the following solutions will work for you:

  • Firefox can't load websites even though other browsers can - if you can view websites in other browsers but can't view them in Firefox.
  • Unable to connect to websites after updating Firefox - If you are having connection problems after you update Firefox.

If you see the following error messages, Firefox is trying to access the Internet through a proxy server:

  • Proxy server refuses connection
  • Could not find proxy server

If you connect to the Internet through a proxy, compare Firefox settings with Internet Explorer - read the Microsoft Guide to Proxy Settings.Read the article Entering proxy settings on Mac in Apple Support for getting additional information about proxy server settings.

To check your connection settings in Firefox:

If the problem occurs in all web browsers

This is probably a problem with your Internet connection. For some tips to resolve this issue, see the article Firefox and other browsers can't load websites.

There are various reasons why the Internet browser cannot open web pages. This is often due to the inability to establish a connection to servers. However, there are other technical problems. In any case, in order for the browser to work normally, you will need to identify the root cause of the error and eliminate it. Let's take a closer look at how to do this.

Internet connection problems

Although this may seem obvious, many users forget that problems opening web pages may be due to a lack of Internet connection. First, see if there is a connection. This can be done by clicking on the antenna icon in the lower right corner of the screen.

If this is the problem, try the following steps. In the case when the connection is made directly through a cable to the computer, remove and insert the cable back. If you have a router, check if the wires and have come loose, then reboot the device. For a 3G modem, you need to see if it is completely inserted into the USB connector. After all the above steps, restart your computer and try to restore the connection again.

What to do if the reasons are in the computer itself

There are situations when programs on the computer download updates, ICQ and Skype work, in other words, there is a connection, but the Internet browser does not open sites. Let's see what to do if the Chrome, Mozilla or other browser does not open. The reason for this situation may be a virus that you “picked up” on not very reliable sites. The main thing to do in this case is to install an antivirus program, with which you need to scan the entire system. If the antivirus cannot remove some viruses, then know that there are several.

In addition, you should pay attention to the hosts file available on the computer. In order to find it, go to My Computer - Drive C. Next, select windows folder, and in it go to the system32 tab. Here we click on the links drivers – etc. The hosts file is opened using regular Notepad or any text editor. It should only contain lines starting with the # sign and the inscription 127.0.0.1 localhost. You can safely erase any other inscriptions. By the way, this file can be used to deny access from your computer to any site.

Other reasons

Now let's look at what to do if the Yandex browser or any other browser does not open for some other reason. For example, error 105 appears, indicating that the server's DNS address cannot be resolved. It happens that the main problem lies in the computer settings, which we will now try to fix.

First you need to look at the parameters network connection. Here it is advisable to set the option to receive IP automatically. Since in our case the problem is with DNS, you can try changing the information in this section. For example, write the following data here: 8.8.8.8. – 8.8.4.4. Next, restart the computer and try to open the browser again. If the pages start loading, great, we’ve found the problem; if not, we’ll look further.

You can check the functionality of the browser itself directly. To do this, you will need to disable all extensions in it. Each Internet browser has its own settings. This is usually the Extensions, Tools or Add-ons menu. After you change the settings, you will need to restart your computer and try to open Internet pages again.

I hope that my advice will be useful to you and you will be able to cope with the problem. If not, then continue to further search for the reason why pages in your browser are not loading. It is quite possible that they can be eliminated quite simply, and you will again be able to easily access the Internet in search of the necessary information.

Network users often encounter this problem when, when working on a PC, some sites do not open in the browser.(Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer and others). Maybe this site previously worked and opened, but now, for an unknown reason, it has stopped. Or you visit the site for the first time, but you can’t open it. Why does this happen and what needs to be done in such cases?

Causes and solutions to the problem:

1. The proxy server settings are not set correctly.

In order to find the window you need, you need to go to the menu " Start» find icon « Control Panel" and go to it. Then select “” in the menu, then follow the sub-item “ Connections" and click on the option " Network configuration».

If you are using a proxy server, please provide the correct settings. If PC for home use, usually this option is disabled (there should be no checkmark next to the item “ Use a proxy server for local connections»).

2. Sites do not open due to blocking in the hosts file.

It is also a common reason when viruses in hosts files introduce some website addresses without your knowledge, which are then automatically blocked. To search for this file you need to perform the following steps: through the option " Start» in the window that appears, enter the combination %systemroot%\System32\drivers\etc and confirm the action by clicking “ OK" Then a window will open in front of you where you need to select the item hosts, which opens using notepad (left-click on the file, a list of programs through which you can open the document will open, select “ Notebook»).

If you find the entry below in the hosts file " localhost"something like website addresses (for example, like the VKontakte site in the picture above) - delete them. Save all the settings and now you can close the file. Problem with hosts files must be resolved. If sites still do not open, we recommend the following actions: click Start, drive in " cmd" and then in a new command line " route –f". Now restart your computer and try to launch the site again, it should work.

3. Websites do not open due to a virus.

Manually searching for viruses is a thankless and time-consuming task. In this case, we recommend that you install a new antivirus (downloaded from the official website), then reinstall the browser itself (the old one could have been seriously damaged by viruses) and the entire system with a new antivirus, and also clean it.

4. An antivirus or firewall is blocking the browser.

You need to disable the firewall: in start, type “ Firewall", select " Windows Firewall", and click on the option in the left corner of the window " Enable and disable Windows Firewall ", turn off the firewall.
