    Weak, very weak percent!
Little RAM on board as standard.
    5200 hard drive.
Vidik is pulling new games...But!! with friezes and lags, and the percentage helps with this...
    A bit noisy...

A very weak processor, it slows down, it’s impossible to work, why they stuffed a good Radeon 7470M video card here is not clear at all, it still doesn’t take out anything. The hard one is also slow, with a squelching sound (due to the fact that it constantly parks the heads to save energy), 2GB of memory is not enough, I added 2 more. The keyboard is not comfortable, fingers get tired, this has not happened to others. Stiff mouse buttons on the touchpad. I took it from DOS, installed 7, it doesn’t work, I tore it down and installed XP, somehow I found some firewood on the Internet, at least it started working faster, but XP does not support 2 video cards, i.e. Only the built-in one works, but the discrete one does not. Noisy fan.

Keyboard. Made clearly with savings on everything. I sold the laptop after a year of use because I noticed that the most frequently used keys sagged slightly and began to work worse. It is clear that in another six months or a year the keyboard will need to be replaced.
CPU. Very weak processor with a strong video system. It turns out to be a rather slow, purely office option. The load is a little heavier and even the browser starts to slow down. For example, if there are several flash drives on a website page, then the brakes are felt and jerking begins.

Inconvenient touchpad. Usually there is an insert, but here it is cast. As a result, moving the cursor is very inconvenient; you have to set the speed to maximum.
    - There is not enough RAM in the basic configuration. 2 gigs is clearly not enough and be prepared that you will have to expand, fortunately there are two additional slots.

Very thoughtful. It’s already hard for him to handle more than three tabs in Chrome. Videos from HD and higher are slow. Finding a game that runs smoothly and consistently is an epic feat. Even the space rangers are slow here! The game came out 10 years ago!
    - The battery lasts for 2 hours.
    - I noticed this strange thing: when working from the network, the performance is much better. In the power settings I set all the power to 100 percent, but I still couldn’t achieve sane operation when running on battery power.
    - Heavy

The fan is very noisy. Slow.

    2 years ago -1

The weakest point is the processor.
    No built-in Bluetooth.

A few years ago, Asus released a very successful laptop model that is still in demand to this day.

The K53S has received positive feedback not only from ordinary users, but also from more complex editing/processing programs.

Its main feature is the significant superiority of the model over competitors' devices.

Appearance

The manufacturer paid special attention to the design of this laptop model.

Despite belonging to the budget price category, the device looks very modern and beautiful.

The body details create the impression of “lightness”.

All body parts complement each other perfectly, without creating the impression of a bulky PC.

Laptop cover is corrugated , which allows you to protect it from scratches and abrasions.

The cover material is high-quality impact-resistant plastic.

The interior of the laptop (working panel) is made of aluminum.

This is what the device does durable and resistant to any deformation and physical damage.

Thanks to the embossed surface, the plastic does not reduce the appearance of the gadget, and the matte material performs well in use.

You won't encounter constant fingerprint marks like you do with glossy covers.

The only negative that users note is the painting of aluminum.

Over time, the paint can peel off, scratches appear, under which the gray color of the aluminum is visible.

The only way to remove defects– use special metal paint, which can be purchased at any hardware store.

The quality of the laptop evokes only positive impressions and one cannot say that the gadget belongs to the budget line.

The weight of the laptop is 3 kg, which is quite acceptable for a laptop with a metal exterior.

Carrying the device often may not be convenient, but users rarely choose 15-inch laptops for mobility.

Equipment

Asus K53S standard and does not differ in the presence of special devices:

  • Laptop with battery;
  • Charger;
  • User guide.

For more convenient operation, it is better to purchase an additional one, since it is not always convenient to operate in games, browsers, and other programs.

Specifications

Standard model Asus K53S has the following technical characteristics:

Please note that in some stores you can find the K53S model without an installed OS.

Such gadgets are cheaper (on average 2-3 thousand rubles).

You can install the operating system yourself or use the services of a store to install and configure the software (costs additional money).

Price

The average market value is 15,000 rubles , although finding it in stores is now quite difficult.

Excellent price for a laptop with good technical characteristics and a high-quality case.

The cost may vary depending on the color of the gadget, year of manufacture or additional paid services of the store (installation of the operating system, additional software, and so on).

Screen

Cropping an image at this resolution allows you to achieve good quality images. There are no visible pixels on the display, no glare or glare.

In bright light, the picture loses clarity, so it is advisable to use the model in ordinary rooms, and not in direct sunlight.

Viewing angles leave much to be desired, which is quite predictable for a budget model.

Laptop acoustics and noise

Noise level

As for the noise that the laptop itself makes, it is quite tolerable and does not draw attention to itself during operation.

The cooler system operates smoothly and quietly.

Fans may become louder when running complex games or programs.

Standard noise level for the model K 53 S – 30-40 dB , which meets comfort standards for human ears.

The figure below provides more detailed information on noise testing for each of the laptop components:

When working on Asus devices, we recommend using the utility. This is a proprietary utility from ASUS, designed for flashing and updating the BIOS on motherboards from this manufacturer. The utility has a nice design and an intuitive interface.

Acoustics

Built-in speaker system from Altec Lansing allows you to listen to music files without sound distortion.

Of course, you won’t achieve perfect clear sound, but the volume and affordable quality are enough for comfortable work with the laptop.

Autonomy

The autonomy of the Asus K53S laptop computer ensures battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh (6 energy supply cells).

The new battery can work without connecting to the network for an average of 4 hours (in Internet surfing conditions).

Not a bad indicator for a computer that is not intended for constant mobile use.

Input devices (touchpad and keyboard)

The K53S features standard keyboard layout.

The size of each button is 1.5x1.5 cm. The distance between the buttons is 4 mm.

The buttons are built into a plastic panel, which makes it easy to clean the surface, and dust and fine particles will not get into the inside of the case.

The manufacturer also decided to use an additional numeric keypad, which is located on the right side of the layout.

The usual structure has been slightly changed to save space.

In particular, the buttons are slightly smaller (11 mm each), and instead of the enlarged “0” button, there are arrow keys in the numeric keypad area.

The touchpad measures 93x54 mm, which is smaller than average.

Multi-touch technology supported, with which the user can configure different types of touches to simplify control of the laptop.

The manufacturer managed to compactly fit all the basic input devices onto the internal panel without compromising the quality of control.

Working with the mouse is still as convenient as using its usual models.

As for the mouse control buttons, pressing them does not feel good enough.

This may create inconvenience the first time you use it, but over time your hand gets used to this type of pressure.

If you use a regular mouse, the lack of a touchpad will be completely unnoticeable.

Interfaces

The manufacturer has conveniently placed most of the interfaces on the left side panel of the laptop.

The right panel houses a DVD drive that supports playback, 2 USB 2.0 ports and audio jacks.

Left panel interfaces:

  • One USB 3.0 port;
  • VGA port;
  • HDMI port;
  • Connector for connecting a charger;
  • Cable port

It should be noted that the charging socket is not very practical.

A laptop that is constantly connected to the mains can create inconvenience when trying to connect a flash drive, Internet cable and other external devices.

Also, on the left side of the case there are fan openings, which are necessary to create a constant flow of cold air that cools the processor and video cards.

The built-in IceCool system allows you to maintain the normal temperature of your laptop and adjust its operation depending on the load on the RAM.

The ASUS K53S laptop does not fit into the “budget” ASUS “K” line at all, since it is not only equipped with a Core i5 processor, but also has a discrete graphics core, as well as an aluminum case. But what tricks did ASUS have to resort to in order to fit into the low price? We will talk about all this in our article.

Laptops in the "budget" segment are becoming increasingly important for manufacturers as they account for a significant portion of sales. The Sandy Bridge platform provides high performance, sufficient for all typical user tasks, and even in this initial segment (or in the lower segment of the mass market, as they say today), the equipment of laptops is constantly improving, they are beginning to acquire high-quality cases. Most users do not game on laptops, but work on everyday applications, so the question arises: is it necessary to buy expensive laptops? The new K53S line makes it easier to answer, just look at the specs.

The "K" family can be compared with modern developments in the automotive market. The manufacturer's former "compact" models are moving into the middle class, and today it is quite difficult to find reasons why it is worth taking a model from a more expensive line. In the case of ASUS, it remains the “N” family; it does have significant differences, such as an improved sound system (B&O IcePower) or a higher-resolution display, although today the “budget” models have the same stylish aluminum body.

Prices for the K53S model range today are closer to expensive representatives of the class of 15" office laptops, since they are about 690 euros (from 24 thousand rubles in Russia). But if you take into account the equipment, namely the Intel Core i5-2430M processor, GeForce graphics core GT 540M and 8 GB of memory, then the price seems quite reasonable.

As usual, we will start the review with the case. And in this regard, the laptop has something to boast about. The cover is made of plastic, but thanks to the embossing it does not look cheap, making the K53S stand out from other models. To be honest, many self-assembled laptops would be jealous of ASUS's appearance. The cover material is not glossy, which means it will not quickly fill with fingerprints - at some angle they will be visible, but nothing more. For everyday mobile use, the case material could be made more rigid. And if you don't handle your 15" laptop carefully, scratches can quickly appear on the lid.

Impressions change as soon as you open the display lid. Thanks to the textured aluminum body, we get almost an analogue of the N line (which in its current form has almost completely gotten rid of plastic cases). However, aluminum itself does not mean so much - it’s all about its quality and finish, and strength should not be forgotten. We liked the color shade ASUS chose: following the current fashion, you will get a laptop with a metallic brown color. The body itself is not glossy; the lacquered finish only affects the obligatory frame around the display and the spaces between the keys. How well such a finish will stand the test of time is another matter.

The quality of the K53S materials (especially considering the price) is beyond criticism. Fortunately, ASUS did not skimp on build quality. All sharp edges of the laptop are carefully processed, and there is no cracking of the case.

The dimensions of the K53S laptop are quite consistent with those typical for 15" models. Of course, one cannot say that such a laptop will be comfortable to carry with you on a regular basis, and the weight is 3 kg. But 15" laptops are rarely used for constant mobility. However, the K53S is not that heavy, so you can easily carry the laptop with you - but for daily lecture attendance, for example, there are more convenient models.

ASUS used a traditional keyboard layout. The size of the keys is 15 x 15 mm, the distance between them is 4 mm. This approach has worked well in the past. But ASUS also decided to integrate a numeric keypad - and this is difficult to implement on 15" models without resorting to compromises. Therefore, the keys of the numeric keypad are 11 mm wide, that is, significantly smaller, and not so convenient to work with. In addition, the "0" key " shared its place with the right arrow, which also had to be made smaller than usual. However, such an approach is quite typical for 15" laptops.

In practice, typing on the keyboard is not so comfortable, since the keyboard flexes a lot. While the aluminum palm rests are relatively hard, the keyboard area is much softer. To be fair, an ASUS keyboard with a similar design can be quite comfortable to type on, as we've noted with many laptops in the past, but not the K53S. In addition, the pressure point has a poor feel, so typing on this keyboard will not be as pleasant.

The dimensions of the touchpad are average, namely 93 x 54 mm, while the touchpad itself is slightly recessed into the surface of the case. Since it matches the color of the hand rest panels, the integration into the body is quite good. Sliding the finger along the surface is carried out without any particular complaints, and we were also quite satisfied with the accuracy. There is also support for multiple multi-touch touches.

So far we've been pleased with the K53S, but it remains to be seen whether the positive impression will continue once we've explored the interfaces.

Since the display of 15" laptops is often folded back behind the body, ASUS has moved most of the connectors to the side and front panel. However, on the front you will only get a card reader.

Therefore, all interfaces are placed on the right or left. On the left side you get a USB port, thankfully a modern 3.0 standard. There are also VGA and HDMI video outputs - for most consumers they will be quite enough. The delivery package is completed with an RJ-45 wired network socket and a power connector. The last two connectors, in our opinion, are not optimally located - they are too close to the front of the case. Since 15" laptops are often used when installed on a desktop, the cables will get in the way. The ventilation holes of the built-in ASUS IceCool cooling system are located well, closer to the back of the case, so the panels for resting the hands will not heat up.

On the right, most of the panel is occupied by an optical drive - it can read Blu-ray discs. The drive is moved to the rear of the case, and at the front you get two more USB ports and a pair of audio jacks.

Overall, the K53S provides a typical set of interfaces, although a second USB 3.0 port would definitely be nice. But for such a scene, you can be glad that at least one port is installed.

“A kid with character” - this is how the world-famous Asus company positions the K53S laptop model on the market. The manufacturer has provided this series of laptops with modern components that will allow the laptop to be competitive in the mobile device market over a long period of use. The price of device modifications is significantly lower than competitors, and the performance allows you not only to work with resource-intensive applications, but also to run modern games. First things first.

Greeted by clothes

When buying a laptop, in the first minutes of getting to know it, the main attention is paid to the design. Likewise, to characterize the device, the device is moved to the background, and the appearance of the laptop is in focus. For all modifications, the manufacturer has created a wide range of body colors. You can make any choice - from the standard dark brown color to multi-colored, sometimes acidic shades. This approach is designed primarily for students and creative individuals who always stand out from the crowd.

The laptop lid and bottom have a fairly noticeable corrugated surface, which is very important when carrying the laptop with one hand - the laptop is guaranteed not to slip out even from wet hands. The interior panel of the laptop is made of aluminum and coated with glossy paint to match the color of the case. As you know, fingerprints and scratches are easily visible on such surfaces; you should pay attention to this when purchasing.

Laptop design feature

For an inexpensive laptop, features like rigidity and small body size can be considered luxuries. After all, the more compact the device, the higher its cost on the market. Asus is different.

The thickness of the plastic of the case is much thinner than that of competitors, however, thanks to additional stiffening ribs and an aluminum internal panel, it was possible to achieve compactness and high strength of the device. The laptop lid hinges are very tight. There is absolutely no play when opening and closing the device. The case does not creak when the laptop is deformed, even when pressing on the lid in the closed position, although deflection is noticeable. Asus designers have created a magnificent hard case for their brainchild. You can take such a laptop with you on trips and not worry that it will be damaged during transportation.

LCD screen quality

The entire line of Asus K53S series laptops has an LCD screen from the manufacturer AU Optronics, which is known in the mobile technology market for producing tablets and phones. The LED-backlit screen reproduces colors perfectly, they are natural, without any distortion.

Photographers and video enthusiasts will enjoy working with a laptop. The display's brightness reserve is small, but for such a manufacturer this is not so significant, because AU Optronics screens are considered to last forever during the operation of mobile devices.

The overall picture was spoiled by the laptop's screen resolution - 1366 x 768 (WXGA HD). In the 21st century, when the entire digital world uses the Full HD 1920 x 1080 format, the famous company Asus installs low-resolution screens in its devices. Perhaps this is one of the factors that ensured the low cost of the laptop.

Music lovers will appreciate the sound

I'm glad that Asus refused to install cheap acoustics of its own production in the K53S series laptops and gave preference to the well-known Altec Lansing brand. Such acoustics are installed in laptops manufactured by HP. Music lovers, film buffs and gamers will appreciate the sound. The volume level of the speakers is low, but the sound quality is pleasing to the ear. Low frequencies are very deep, and there are no extraneous rattles at high frequencies. It often feels like there is a subwoofer installed in the laptop. In fact, the device has only two speakers, which are located under the keyboard and controlled by the proprietary SRS Premium Sound panel. It is thanks to this that the sound system of the Asus K53S has characteristics similar to those of expensive mobile devices.

Comfortable keyboard and touchpad

Thanks to the internal aluminum panel, it is securely fastened and does not bend down when pressing the keys, even with force. The key travel is on par with external keyboards, it is quite deep and has little kickback. And if you consider that the keyboard layout is full, then the laptop will be of interest to people who often type texts. There is also a numeric keypad; the keys on it are slightly smaller, but it is still more convenient to use than the function keys.

Windows 7 users will love the Asus K53S, because the laptop has a huge, by its standards, touchpad. It easily allows you to control all windows on the screen in one motion. The touchpad surface is very smooth and pleasant to the touch. The buttons on the touch panel are very rigid, which prevents accidental pressing.

Ports and various interfaces

The laptop is quite suitable as a desktop computer, because the manufacturer took care of the absence of any connectors on the back panel of the device, which allows it to be installed close to the wall. There is only a memory card slot on the front panel, which is rarely used. On the right there is an out-of-fashion, but still in demand optical drive, two USB ports and jacks for connecting headphones and a microphone. On the left panel there is a network interface, an additional USB port, a network socket and video outputs - digital HDMI and analog D-sub. The entire line of laptops is equipped with a modern Wi-Fi module and Bluetooth version 3.0.

Judging by customer reviews, the Asus K53S laptop has positive characteristics, but there are also comments. People who actively use a card reader in their work are unhappy that the manufacturer did not worry about the convenience of installing and removing memory cards. The receiver is located under the front edge of the laptop. In order to insert or remove a memory card, you need to constantly lift the mobile device.

High performance laptop

Asus has paid attention to computer components - among the entire line of laptops there are no devices with weak characteristics. Any mobile device can cope with complex tasks, because the minimum amount of RAM installed in the Asus K53S is four gigabytes. All laptops are equipped with powerful discrete video adapters and modern processors with two or four cores of the Intel Core series.

Processor frequencies in all devices do not exceed 2.5 Hz. This solution made it possible to significantly reduce energy consumption and heat generation of the entire system. Fans of increasing system performance by overclocking the core clock will appreciate the possibility of overclocking using proprietary utilities from the manufacturer. The most powerful processors in the Asus K53S line are I7. The characteristics of the installed components in such laptops allow you to play all modern games.

Cooling system and minor difficulties

Judging by user reviews of the Asus K53S laptop, the technical characteristics of the cooling system are worthy of praise, but there may also be problems with repairs. On the one hand, this is a well-thought-out cooling system that is capable of quickly and efficiently delivering fresh air to heating components and just as effectively removing heat from the laptop body. During maximum load, the temperature in the processor area does not exceed 40 degrees, and the fan noise is very low compared to competing cooling systems. On the other hand, it is difficult to clean the cooling system as a result of long-term operation. After all, it’s no secret that after several years of use, the radiators of the system still become clogged with dust and block air circulation. To clean the cooling system, you need to completely disassemble the laptop - right down to the motherboard, and then reassemble it so that it works. Most users cannot do without the help of a service center.

Battery life

It is noteworthy that the Asus K53S laptop has better technical characteristics of the standard battery than those of expensive competitors' models - 56 W per hour. And if you remember that energy-efficient processors are installed, then you can confidently say that the device can work for quite a long time on one charge.

Another useful feature that significantly affects power consumption is the pre-installed utility for the NVIDIA Optimus video adapter, which is present in the entire Asus K53S line. The Windows 7 drivers that come on disk with your laptop contain this utility. Enabling occurs programmatically and is controlled from Windows. The task of the utility is to monitor and manage the power of the laptop's video card. From a technological point of view, it is very convenient when the system, for example, when watching a movie, turns off the gaming capabilities of the adapter and extends the battery life of the device by 15-30 minutes.
