The Japanese company Sony has been producing televisions for many years. She started back in the days of kinescope “boxes”. And even then, it was its products that were distinguished by the highest quality - buyers appreciated the color rendition and the number of connectors. Since then the situation has not changed too much. Now the Japanese produce LCD TVs, and many people still believe that Sony products produce the best quality pictures. However, this does not apply to all devices. In this article we will talk exclusively about those models that are the best of their kind.

The best Sony TVs up to 39 inches

A stunning LCD TV with an eye-catching design. The side frames are kept to a minimum here - they are barely noticeable even in good ambient lighting. Only the area under the display is slightly wider - most of the electronics are hidden here. The stand also looks elegant - an ignorant person will not immediately understand how exactly the TV is held in a stable position. It’s impossible to find fault with the 101-centimeter display. It squeezes all the juice out of Full HD resolution. It even supports HDR technology! That is, when viewing relevant content, you can enjoy realistic colors that cheaper TVs cannot produce. Let us remind you that a similar picture is displayed, for example, by modern game consoles from Microsoft or Sony.

Of course, the screen of such a device has maximum viewing angles. That is, you can watch a movie from anywhere in the room. It is not necessary to play content from an external hard drive. Instead, you can go to one or another online cinema using the appropriate functionality of Smart TV. But it seems that much more often the TV owner will launch YouTube. The transition to this service is carried out almost instantly - it is felt that this client has a certain amount of RAM reserved. And other applications work very quickly, and we should thank the powerful processor.

Of course, the TV also has some limitations. I couldn’t do without them, because 35 thousand rubles. - this is far from the highest price tag for Sony products. The buyer will have to come to terms with the lack of support for the DVB-S2 standard. This means that you won’t be able to connect a satellite dish directly to your TV; you will need a receiver. Other digital TV standards are supported without any problems. Some buyers may also be disappointed with the built-in acoustics. It consists of two speakers with a power of 5 W each. There's a good chance you'll soon want to use the coaxial audio output to connect speakers or a soundbar.

Otherwise, this is a typical mid-budget TV. With such an appearance, he could not help but get into our rating.

Advantages

    Maximum viewing angles;

    Weighs no more than 8.7 kg;

    Energy consumption does not exceed 60 W;

    The headphone jack is not forgotten;

    There are two HDMI jacks and two USB ports;

    Built-in FM radio;

    Very fast transition to YouTube;

    Smart TV available;

    Cute design with very narrow bezels;

Flaws

    There is no support for the DVB-S2 satellite standard;

    Weak acoustics;

    No Bluetooth;

    Display resolution is only 1920x1080 pixels;

The most compact TV in our rating. Its screen diagonal is only 31.5 inches (80 cm). At the same time, the product also has an extremely thin frame, since almost all the electronics are located in the area under the display. And if the previous copy operated under Opera TV, here a modified version of Linux is used. However, the buyer is unlikely to notice significant differences - the capabilities of the two systems are approximately the same. Except that this option is updated less frequently.

This model sells for 28-30 thousand rubles. As you might guess, the Japanese giant offers exclusively a Full HD panel for this money. The display shows very well; there are no complaints about color rendition and viewing angles. The sweep frequency is standard. You can watch both terrestrial digital TV and cable TV. If you are going to buy a satellite dish, then in addition to it you will have to purchase a receiver, since there is no support for the DVB-S2 standard here. There are also two USB ports to which you can connect an external hard drive or a regular flash drive. But it seems much easier to watch videos online using Wi-Fi. Among the list of other connectors, we can highlight a pair of HDMI jacks, SCART and optical audio output. The latter is quite capable of being useful, since the total power of the built-in acoustics is only 10 W. By the way, the Japanese manufacturer did not forget about the headphone jack.

The Sony KDL-32WD756 is probably well worth the money spent on it, unless you want to add some cash towards a 4K TV. This model was included in our rating not only due to its chic appearance and minimal weight, but also due to its light sensor - it is rarely found in such compact TVs.

Advantages

    Weight is only 6.9 kg;

    Stylish design with minimal frame width;

    There is Smart TV;

    Built-in light sensor;

    It is possible to connect wired headphones;

    Maximum viewing angles;

    There is a fairly large number of connectors;

Flaws

    Resolution - Full HD only;

    Satellite TV support is not implemented;

    No Bluetooth;

    Low power of the speaker system;

The best Sony TVs with a screen of 40-49 inches

A very large TV with fairly thin bezels around the display. They are asking more than 89 thousand rubles for such a device. In connection with such a price tag, it is not at all surprising that there are three TV tuners here at once. You can connect to them both an over-the-air antenna and satellite dishes - support for the corresponding standard is available here. You can also watch content via one or another USB drive - the TV has three ports at once. Why so many of them? Firstly, to power some electronic device (for example, the NES Classic Mini game console). Secondly, to connect peripherals. That is, USB ports will definitely come in handy if there is an Android operating system here.

This TV displays images using a very large screen. Its diagonal is 48.5 inches (123 cm). Of course, with such dimensions, the buyer will have 4K resolution. But that’s not even what makes me happy. And not even support for HDR technology, which makes colors more realistic. Most of all, the impressions (and the price tag too) were influenced by the increased scanning frequency to 100 Hz. This means that action scenes on this TV will appear smoother. The differences will be noticeable in games as well.

The speaker system here uses two speakers with a power of 10 W each. There are four HDMI sockets and other connectors for connecting external equipment. You can also use Bluetooth. Wi-Fi is used to access the Internet, and among the supported standards is high-speed 802.11ac. There is also a light sensor, thanks to which the brightness of the screen backlight is adjusted automatically.

It remains to add that the TV weighs 13.8 kg. It will be very difficult for a fragile girl to cope with its installation.

Advantages

    Excellent screen with 4K resolution and HDR support;

    A huge number of connectors;

    Relatively good acoustics;

    Smart TV works without strong brakes;

    Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless modules;

    There are three TV tuners;

    The scanning frequency has been increased to 100 Hz;

Flaws

    Very high cost;

    There is no CI+ card slot;

    A large power supply is used;

Another Japanese TV with a very thin frame. The diagonal of its screen is 42.5 inches - translated into the metric system this is 108 cm. This model cannot be called particularly expensive, although it costs 65 thousand rubles. Not every resident of our country will be able to spend it. This device includes two TV tuners. This allows you to simultaneously watch both terrestrial and satellite television. Of course, the Japanese have introduced support for all digital TV standards here. They also endowed their creation with three USB ports. It is recommended to download only movies saved in the best quality to a flash drive or external hard drive. The fact is that a screen with 4K resolution is used here. And when you connect certain equipment and view special services, the HDR mode is also activated, which will significantly increase the realism of colors.

It is difficult to find fault with the TV regarding its other characteristics. This model was included in our rating thanks to its stable working Android. Using this operating system, you can watch content from online cinemas. Connection to the router is made via Wi-Fi 802.11ac. And if we talk about wireless modules, the TV also has Bluetooth. Most often, the “blue tooth” will be used to connect headphones. As for all kinds of external equipment, there are four HDMI sockets for connecting it.

Of course, the Sony KD-43XE8077 could not do without its drawbacks. But it is very difficult to find them. The acoustics used here have a total power of 20 W, and this should hardly be considered an insufficient parameter. The weight of the TV is also within reason, amounting to 10.8 kg. Perhaps, you can only complain about the screen refresh rate - it is equal to the standard 50 Hz.

Advantages

    A large number of connectors;

    Great design;

    There is a light sensor;

    Quite loud speakers;

    The screen boasts 4K resolution and HDR support;

    Built-in Bluetooth and high-speed Wi-Fi;

    Smart TV available;

    All digital TV standards are supported;

Flaws

    The cost cannot be called low;

    Not all people find the remote control convenient;

    Standard display refresh rate;

Another TV with a display diagonal of 108 cm. It was also created using IPS technology, and therefore you can count on soft color reproduction and maximum viewing angles. The device cannot be called cheap; they ask for more than 40 thousand rubles. In this regard, the product received 4K resolution. Relevant content will look great here! And you don’t have to search for it on the Internet and then copy it to a USB drive. This model has support for Smart TV - this means that there is an Opera TV operating system that allows you to watch content online. In particular, the user can easily launch YouTube, which contains a lot of 4K videos. Some of them will even allow you to appreciate the work of HDR technology.

Of course, the screen built in here could not be ideal, because the TV does not belong to the top price segment. You can find fault with the sweep frequency of 50 Hz. But, perhaps, this is where any serious shortcomings of the display end. And the rest of the TV is made to a very good level. It uses an acoustic system with a total power of 20 W, which with such a price tag will certainly please the buyer. The device supports absolutely all digital TV standards, including terrestrial DVB-T2 and satellite DVB-S2. The set of connectors on the rear and side panels, consisting of three HDMI sockets and the same number of USB ports, also looks chic. The manufacturer was even generous with a couple of TV tuners!

Of course, the Japanese would not be themselves if they did not save on the little things. Firstly, the Wi-Fi module installed here only supports the 802.11n standard, which is not the fastest. Secondly, the manufacturer refused to introduce support for Bluetooth devices. Thirdly, he did not integrate a light sensor into his creation. Most of the shortcomings can be easily tolerated. Although you need to understand that when viewing 4K content online, you will have to give up Wi-Fi - you will have to use a wired connection.

Advantages

    All digital TV standards are supported;

    Quite reasonable price tag;

    Excellent appearance;

    Built-in two independent TV tuners;

    Not the worst acoustics;

    The screen has 4K resolution and HDR support;

    Smart TV available;

Flaws

    No light sensor;

    The Wi-Fi module does not support the 802.11ac standard;

    No Bluetooth;

The best Sony TVs with a screen of 50-55 inches

Very large TV. Its screen diagonal is 55 inches (140 cm). But they also ask for quite a lot of money for the device - about 94 thousand rubles. What does the buyer get for this amount? First of all, the screen is gorgeous. It has a 4K resolution, making it difficult to see individual pixels even if you get close to the device. When playing on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One S, HDR technology will become noticeable - colors become as close to reality as possible. Finally, the buyer will be delighted by the screen refresh rate, increased here to 100 Hz. Not a record-breaking figure, but even it makes games and action films smoother.

There are four HDMI connectors for connecting external electronics. What is important is that these sockets belong to the HDMI 2.0 standard. This means that they are capable of receiving video signals in 4K resolution at 60 frames/s. On the case you can also find three USB ports, which are needed for using all sorts of peripherals and storage devices. Hidden somewhere inside the TV are Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth wireless modules. The first is needed for Android to work, while the second allows you to connect, for example, wireless headphones. Of course, this model recognizes signals from all popular digital TV standards without any problems. It can be argued that such TVs do not need receivers and digital set-top boxes. The device made it into our rating thanks to the presence of three TV tuners. Most of all, guests of our country should be happy about this. It turns out that they can connect terrestrial and two satellite antennas (to watch Russian and, say, Armenian television). One cannot but rejoice at the light sensor installed here, which allows the system to automatically adjust the brightness of the backlight.

Only acoustics can cause opposite feelings in a buyer. Its total power is 20 W. Yes, that's a lot. But not so much, especially for this diagonal and such a high cost. I would like to get more speakers, even if they remain 10-watt.

Advantages

    Built-in three TV tuners;

    There is a light sensor;

    Android operating system installed;

    The scanning frequency has been increased to 100 Hz;

    Large screen with 4K resolution and HDR support;

    There are a large number of connectors;

    Bluetooth available;

    All digital TV standards are supported;

Flaws

    Wi-Fi does not support the high-speed 802.11ac standard;

    Not the best sound system;

    The menu is sometimes slow;

    Very high cost;

This 4K TV is quite large in size. Its IPS display has a 55-inch diagonal. In this regard, it is recommended to use the TV only in a room with a large area, where there would be at least a three-meter distance between it and the sofa.

What else does a device priced at 70 thousand rubles offer? Firstly, a standard speaker system consisting of two speakers with a total power of 20 W. Secondly, support for all digital TV standards - from terrestrial to satellite. Thirdly, the Smart TV function based on Android. The “green robot” works without much slowdown, although at some moments the insufficient amount of RAM is still felt.

There are four HDMI sockets and three USB ports on the back and side panels of the LCD TV. In fact, this is the maximum number of connectors. An optical audio output is used to output sound. An Ethernet port is used to connect to the router. Wireless data exchange is also possible, but when viewing 4K content online, the Wi-Fi module may not have enough bandwidth.

In short, Sony's TV turned out to be very good. Thin frames, a couple of TV tuners, smart functionality, an excellent screen - everything that the average consumer needs is here.

Advantages

    The display has 4K resolution and HDR support;

    Great design;

    Built-in light sensor;

    Bluetooth available;

    A large number of connectors;

    There are two TV tuners;

    Very large sizes;

Flaws

    Standard screen refresh rate;

    The operating system does not work perfectly;

    Inconvenient remote control;

    With such dimensions, I would like to get more powerful acoustics;

The best Sony TVs with a screen over 65 inches

The screen diagonal of this TV is 74.5 inches (189 cm). This makes the device a good choice for a bar or a huge living room. Most often, buyers hang the device on the wall. By the way, for such an operation you will have to attract help, because the TV weighs 33.2 kg. However, the set comes with a stylish stand, thanks to which the product can be placed on a spacious cabinet.

Of course, such a large TV could not fail to get a screen with 4K resolution. Although, to be honest, with a price tag of 270 thousand rubles. I want to see an 8K picture already. Also, the display of this device can boast an increased scanning frequency of up to 100 Hz. This has a positive effect on games, where the display competently “draws” additional frames, as a result of which the picture seems very smooth - no worse than that produced by a combination of several top-end video cards. Also, the high refresh rate will appeal to football fans - the sensations become as close as possible to what fans get at the stadium. But, of course, you need to look for a broadcast in 4K resolution. By the way, there is also support for HDR. Content using this technology will definitely delight the user with realistic colors.

But it’s not the screen alone that makes this TV good. The manufacturer has endowed it with a decent amount of RAM and a powerful processor. This allows the Android operating system to function without significant slowdowns. With its help, you can easily watch movies online using certain online cinema clients. If paid viewing doesn’t suit you, then you can launch YouTube, where you can easily find a lot of 4K videos. The user can also connect all kinds of external equipment - game consoles, action cameras and other devices of this kind. For this, four HDMI sockets and three USB ports are used. Wireless headphones connect via Bluetooth. As for the router, there is no need to pull a network cable from it - the TV supports the high-speed Wi-Fi 802.11ac standard, the bandwidth of which is quite enough for watching 4K video.

If we talk about television, then the device includes three TV tuners. Of course, the Sony KD-75XE9005 understands all digital TV standards, including satellite DVB-S2. That is, it is quite possible to insert a “cable” and wires from two satellite “dishes” here.

Alas, even such an expensive TV has one serious drawback. And we’re not even talking about energy consumption, which reaches 331 W - it’s unlikely that a person who bought such an expensive device will save on electricity bills. The TV is disappointing with its sound. Sony didn’t try to be clever, introducing the simplest acoustics, consisting of two speakers with a power of 10 W each. Where's the subwoofer? And why is the number of speakers only two? Competitors have long been working not only on the picture, but also on the sound, while the owner of the Sony KD-75XE9005 will also have to purchase speakers.

Advantages

    Huge screen with 4K resolution and HDR support;

    Implemented local display dimming;

    The screen refresh rate is 100 Hz;

    The light sensor has not been forgotten;

    Three TV tuners have been introduced;

    All digital TV standards are supported;

    There are a large number of connectors;

    There is a stable working Android;

    Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 802.11ac wireless modules;

Flaws

    Astronomical price tag;

    In terms of sound, the TV lags behind its competitors.

A slightly less expensive, but also noticeably smaller TV. It has a 65-inch diagonal screen. Its resolution is 3840x2160 pixels - that is, 4K video content will look perfect. Worth 200 thousand rubles. The TV could not help but get an increased scan frequency. The buyer is waiting for full 120 Hz, and this is not some kind of advertising gimmick, suggesting only a software improvement. Also, the IPS display used here has support for HDR technology, which makes colors more realistic. Another Sony product, the PlayStation 4 game console, will help you appreciate the work of this technology. And its Pro version will also delight you with games in 4K resolution. However, our separate article is devoted to the best game consoles.

On the side and back panels of the TV there is a zoo of all kinds of connectors. What should please you most are the four HDMI sockets needed to connect external equipment. This model also received three USB ports - they are necessary for connecting peripherals, external hard drives and flash drives. The coaxial audio output is useful for using speakers or a soundbar. However, I don’t want to connect external acoustics at all, because the built-in one has no serious drawbacks. The fact is that it consists of six speakers, two of which are low-frequency. As a result, the total power of the built-in acoustics reaches 60 W. A wonderful option for such a large TV! In fact, this is a rare case when a Japanese company thought not only about the image, but also about the sound.

Of course, such a device supports absolutely all digital TV standards. The user can insert the cable from the satellite dish into the appropriate socket without any problems without purchasing a receiver. In total, the product has three independent TV tuners, which is enough in one hundred percent of cases. The TV uses Android as its operating system. Perhaps this is one of the few shortcomings. The fact is that this operating system is not the best adapted for such technology, and therefore, from time to time, slowdowns occur from time to time. Otherwise, it’s very difficult to find fault with the device; the Japanese manufacturer did their best this time. But be sure to evaluate the performance of the TV before purchasing it! Some buyers have noticed bleed around the edges, which is noticeable when displaying static, dark scenes. Please note that to comfortably watch 4K content online, you will need a modern router that supports the Wi-Fi 802.11ac standard. You can also connect to the router using a network cable - the Ethernet port is easily found on the back wall.

One of the most inexpensive 65-inch TVs from a Japanese manufacturer. For its creation, the Japanese company Sony asks no more than 107 thousand rubles. At the same time, this product even outperforms more expensive models in some respects. For example, the Sony KD-65XD7505 is much lighter than the device discussed above - the weight of this TV does not exceed 21.5 kg (excluding the stand). Also, the device is not very scary in terms of energy consumption. And in terms of supported digital TV standards, it’s impossible to find fault with this model - it recognizes DVB-T2, DVB-C, and DVB-S2. That is, the TV is quite capable of detecting the signal coming from a satellite dish. Two TV tuners seem to be enough for most buyers, and this is the number installed in the TV that completes our rating.

The screen of this model has 4K resolution. Support for HDR is also implemented here, a technology that makes colors closer to reality. You can only find fault with the screen refresh rate. Do not expect to see 800 Hz here, indicated in the characteristics on all sorts of price aggregators - this is the so-called refresh rate index, achieved by software. Technically, the frequency is most likely slightly higher than the standard - you need to wait for 100 or 120 Hz. Which, however, is also very good - cheaper TVs cannot boast of this either. By the way, this model involves not only watching television. On the device body you can find three USB ports, to which external hard drives and flash drives with pre-recorded content can be connected. You can also use Android. Just try to connect the TV to the router with a wire - this will ensure more stable data transfer. But if you only watch YouTube, then Wi-Fi capabilities may be enough.

You can only criticize the Sony KD-65XD7505 TV for the acoustics used here. It consists of two speakers, the total power of which does not exceed 20 W. Of course, the sound can be output to speakers or a soundbar using the optical audio output. But you need to spend extra money on such equipment, which many TV owners do not want to do. However, we are not scaring you - the sound still cannot be called bad. Otherwise, this model simply would not have found a place in this rating.

Advantages

    Smart TV available;

    There is a subwoofer output;

    Weight does not exceed 21.5 kg;

    There are a large number of connectors;

    It’s impossible to find fault with the design;

    Built-in Bluetooth wireless module;

    A pair of independent TV tuners have been introduced;

    Support for all digital TV standards has been implemented;

    Not the lowest refresh rate;

    Large screen with HDR support and 4K resolution;

Flaws

    Not the fastest Wi-Fi;

    The acoustics consist of only two speakers.

Conclusion

This is the ranking of the best Sony TVs. As you may have noticed, there are no perfect devices. Any Japanese product has certain disadvantages, even the most expensive. Nevertheless, it is quite possible to consider the option of purchasing such devices, especially if you are willing to pay a certain amount for the brand.

The popular Japanese brand continues to occupy one of the leading positions in electronics sales. What are the 2018 Sony TVs? What advantages do they have over their predecessors?

To answer these difficult questions, let’s study in detail the catalog of TV equipment from this manufacturer. There are both budget models and premium-class devices.

You need to choose a TV in accordance with the functionality of the equipment. Also consider your own financial capabilities. To avoid mistakes, study the labeling of this brand’s equipment. Then you can easily distinguish last year's model from the new one.

New technologies from Sony

Like other popular electronics manufacturers, Sony presented new TV models at the CES forum. Fans of equipment from the famous Japanese brand are offered models with an OLED screen and additional features: 4K support, Dolby Vision, Android TV, Google Assistant.

The features listed above are extremely important, but they were available in the 2017 premium models of Sony Bravia. In the process of creating a new collection of televisions, the developers focused on improving existing technologies.

The main task that was set for the engineers was to improve the transmission of sound from the Triluminos display. An improved version of the old technology received a new name - Acoustic Surface. Now audio transmission is carried out in a 3.1 configuration. Previous TV models had a 2.1 channel configuration.

The manufacturer offers customers OLED TVs of the A8F series with screen diagonals in the range of 55-65 inches. Last year, devices with similar functionality cost about $6,000. Now the price of the previous generation of TVs has dropped by 50%.

Sony BRAVIA KD-75XF9005

The company has not forgotten about the budget segment either. Consumers are offered LCD TVs of the X900F line with diagonals from 49 to 85 inches. New X-Motion Clarity technology has been implemented. It helps reduce image blur in dynamic scenes without losing image saturation.

The latest model range is equipped with powerful matrices - from 120 Hz. Together with X-Reality technology, it is possible to achieve high-quality, rich and realistic images. This is the main distinguishing feature of the 2018 Sony TV.

Sony TV markings

Before you start reviewing new products, you need to study in detail the intricacies of TV labeling. Sony's is clearer and more concise. Especially when compared with LG or Samsung. The marking remains virtually unchanged.

Sony XF85 series TV

The current European version was created back in 2016. From that moment on it remained almost identical. All information about the TV is encrypted in 9 characters (numbers and letters). Let's carefully study the marking features of the TV range from Sony.

Screen diagonal and device type

Marking of TV equipment mainly begins with the following letters:

  • KDL – for Full HD TVs or HD-ready models;
  • KD – Ultra HD with support for 4K format.

The 2018 Sony TV lineup is mostly represented by devices of the second type. Budget lines are rarely updated.

The next 2 numbers are the screen diagonal. The latest collection starts with a small diagonal – 31.5″ for Full HD models. The minimum diagonal for UHD TVs is 43 inches.

Device class

This is a key characteristic. For competitors, the most important parameter is the series. Sony TV is rated according to class. At the initiative of the brand, the model name is often shortened to a few characters. The first one denotes the device class.

This year, models of three classes appeared on the TV equipment market:

  • Z, X (S) – flagship models. The letter X denotes a flat screen, and S is used for curved models;
  • W – standard devices, mostly with Full HD screen resolution;
  • R – basic HD-ready devices.

Since last year, the letter A has been added to the existing symbols to mark OLED models.

Year of manufacture and series

The markings are updated according to the model year. It is denoted by the Latin letter:

  • F – 2018;
  • E – 2017;
  • D – 2016;
  • C – 2015.

After the year there is a number indicating the TV series (from 4 to 9). Then the model number is listed. These values, which are supplemented by the class, are included in the abbreviated marking: for example, ZD9. This means that we have a 9-series flagship with 4K support. Released in 2016.

The final marking element is design modification. The parameter is encrypted with one digit. However, this mark does not convey truly important information for a potential buyer.

The type of built-in TV tuner is not indicated in the basic labeling. Therefore, to find out how to set up the connection of digital channels, take a look at the technical specifications of the device.

New Sony TVs 2018

A review of new Sony TVs will allow potential buyers to finally make their choice. Consider OLED and UHD models. Let's analyze their strengths and weaknesses, as well as the cost of available devices.

OLED Series

Among the new TVs, the line of OLED models is predictably of the greatest interest. The 2018 Sony TV A1E is already on sale. The company offers 3 screen diagonals. The price and technical characteristics indicate that this is a flagship.

  • 55″ – $2800;
  • 65″ – $4000;
  • 77″ – $15,000.

Judging by user reviews, the new product from Sony made a positive impression even during the CES exhibition. A screen with intelligent backlighting, HDR support, maximum resolution – this is not a complete list of advantages. Consumers especially liked Acoustic Surface technology. There is no need to spend money on buying a speaker system. Built-in hardware with support for Dolby Digital Plus and DTS is enough for powerful and clear sound.

Sony Bravia A1 77″

The developers surprised even critics with their unconventional approach. However, they didn't like the placement of the subwoofer. It is located on the back of the stand. This decision was made by engineers to maintain the thinness of the screen. Therefore, the acoustics were moved outside the screen.

The design of the TV and the stand deserve special attention. The absence of frames makes the device sophisticated and original. The TV seems to float in the air. The developers moved the stand to the back; competitors still place it at the bottom. All control elements were hidden. They do not interfere with viewing.

Table of 2018 Sony TVs with OLED screen type.

UHD 4K Series

The manufacturer has updated not only expensive OLED devices, but also its line of Ultra HD 4K TVs. New models will be added to the premium class (X), and the following series will also be added: 7,8,9.

The choice of diagonals is wide. Prices correspond to the cost of analogues from Samsung and LG.

The new products presented in the table come with 4K support. They have an extended range. The most expensive models support all formats: HDR 10, Dolby Vision, HGL (still gaining momentum in popularity).

There is very little ultra-high quality content. Therefore, the developers have added a lot of proprietary functions, the activation of which will bring a regular image closer to 4K.

The main feature of the new collection of TV equipment is X-tended Dynamic Range Pro technology. The essence is a balanced distribution of brightness around the entire perimeter of the screen.

The X1 graphics processor will provide resolution scaling, as well as frame-by-frame image processing. The processor package has undergone changes. As a result, its power increased by 40%. TVs will operate smoothly, providing a comfortable viewing experience.

The largest premium TVs come with support for Smart TV based on the Android operating system. The manufacturer has worked thoroughly on the interface, navigation and control system. Voice control has been improved. Now the remote control is practically not used.

Gaming capabilities also did not go unnoticed. The basic package of 4K models includes original accessories for video games: joysticks, keyboards.

Sony KDL-55W805C

Already in the middle of this year, the Japanese brand announced the release of new TVs. The model range will be expanded in the near future. Official information about new products is published on the manufacturer’s website.

There is no point in reviewing absolutely all new models. After all, it will take a huge amount of time. Let's focus on the best TVs released this year.

Episode seven

This is a new level of TV with 4K support. The main feature is relatively low prices. The sales rating is very high. The choice of users is largely explained by the ratio of cost and functionality of the device. There is no support for the Android TV platform.

The new XF70 series is an updated version of the XE70. Now 4K has become more accessible, because TVs cost much less compared to their predecessors from last year.

Pay attention to this series. This includes models with screen sizes from 43 to 65 inches. These are the most popular sizes.

Even with a minimal budget, users can buy a device with impressive functionality. The XF70 series is equipped with a 4K X-Reality Pro GPU that supports DCE (Dynamic Contrast Contrast Technology).

Smart TV support. Access to popular streaming services has been implemented: Netflix, Prime Video, etc.

Episode Eight

Models in this series are middle class among TVs with 4K support. All devices have Android TV. The XF85 and XF80 also feature a frame made of aluminum. The basic package includes a special device for laying wires.

The X1 GPU is exclusively available in the XF85 series. These models do not have local dimming. Therefore, the level of HDR support is unsatisfactory.

Episode Nine

There are a lot of differences compared to the two previous series. A key feature is the introduction of proprietary X-Tended technology. The developers assure that both HDR and SDR content will be reproduced. Another innovation is X-Motion Clarity. This technology improves the image in dynamic scenes.

Direct LED backlight is used. It has local dimming. The ninth series is adapted for connecting an acoustic panel capable of reproducing sound in Dolby Atmos. TV models in this series are equipped with the X1 Extreme graphics processor.

Analyzing the expansion of the dynamic range, we note that all models in this series are produced with support for the following standards: HLG, HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

Flagships

To conclude the review of new products, we will highlight the flagships released in 2018 – the Sony AF8 series. We have already talked about it partially earlier. Therefore, let’s look at the flagships through the prism of differences from TVs of the ninth series:

  • OLED screen;
  • Acoustic Suface technology;
  • double database processing;
  • Super Bit Mapping option;
  • remastered.

The design of the flagships is in the style of minimalism. The TV will fit harmoniously into any room.

Note.

In our country, like in many others, there is a huge number of fans of Sony products. If such a person goes to a store, he will certainly choose Sony TVs. We decided to greatly simplify the choice by compiling a selection of the best models in different price segments. After reading this article, you will find out which Sony TVs are better than others.

In 2017, the first Sony TVs began to appear. For now, these are very expensive models - both the traditional markup for the brand and the need to purchase the corresponding matrices from another company have an impact. But we can hope that in 2018 such TVs will become a little cheaper, since they are the ones that cause the greatest delight among the buyer.

Please note that our rating is based solely on user reviews. Therefore, you may not find some completely new models in it - buyers simply did not have time to try them and write their opinion. But the selection turned out to be as honest as possible - in it you will not find those TVs that have the best characteristics, but at the same time work disgustingly.

Inexpensive Sony TVs

The Japanese manufacturer has been making some markup on the brand for a long time. In this regard, you will not find very cheap TVs on store shelves. Or they will have a tiny display and minimal functionality. Let's look at those few devices that are inexpensive and do not cause much disappointment after purchase.

Sony KDL-32WD603

This 32-inch TV from a Japanese manufacturer boasts two HDMI connectors and the same number of USB ports. Direct LED is used as backlighting. However, this does not make the display ideal. The fact is that its resolution is only 1360x768 pixels.

But if you close your eyes to this shortcoming, the picture is unlikely to cause rejection. The scanning frequency here is increased to 200 Hz, so action scenes evoke, if not delight, then very pleasant feelings.

The device supports digital and cable television standards. But for a satellite dish you will have to buy a receiver. The sound is output using two 5 W speakers. Another device that allows you to watch a variety of content online. You can use a cable or wireless method to connect to your router.

Overall, the TV turned out to be very good. Judging by the reviews, it is regularly placed in the children's room. People also note that the included remote control is not best suited for using Smart TV. It can only be replaced with a smartphone, and even then only partially. It is not possible to connect a keyboard and mouse to the TV - there is no Bluetooth here, and USB does not detect such peripherals.

Advantages:

  • Not a bad display with a refresh rate of 200 Hz;
  • Built-in two USB connectors;
  • Smart TV available;
  • Small size and weight;
  • Relatively low price tag.

Flaws:

  • Low screen resolution;
  • Not the most convenient remote control;
  • Only one TV tuner;
  • USB ports belong to the 2.0 standard;
  • There is no Bluetooth module.
Sony KDL-32R303C

Another LCD TV with a diagonal of 32 inches (81 cm). It just so happens that the Japanese are not eager to produce smaller TVs. This is partly why the company’s product range does not include very cheap devices. So, what can this model please you with?

Firstly, high-quality Direct LED backlighting. Secondly, the TV screen has maximum viewing angles - only professional photographers or designers will notice image distortion. Thirdly, the device easily understands the DVB-T2 and DVB-C standards, allowing you to connect an indoor antenna or “cable”. There is only no satellite dish support here.

Unfortunately, in all other respects the product is noticeably simplified. There is no Smart TV here. The screen has a refresh rate of 50 Hz, and the HD resolution can cause nothing but sadness. The number of connectors is also small.

At the same time, they ask for a lot for a TV - about 20 thousand rubles. This allows us to conclude that this device is primarily intended for installation in a children's room. And you should take it only if the previous model reviewed was not available in stores in your city.

Advantages:

  • Cute design;
  • Maximum viewing angles;
  • Not very large in size and weight;
  • There is a “photo frame” function;
  • Good color rendition.

Flaws:

  • One TV tuner;
  • Very small number of connectors;
  • Low display resolution;
  • Standard screen refresh rate;
  • Long response time from the remote control.

This TV, as you might have already guessed, also has a 32-inch screen. Its resolution is 1366 x 768 pixels. Unfortunately, among inexpensive Sony TVs there is not a single model whose display could boast of . Also, the scanning frequency, which is equal to the standard 50 Hz, may cause some disappointment to the buyer. Edge LED is used as backlighting - that is, it is lateral.

Fortunately, the TV has a number of advantages. Otherwise, buyers would not be delighted with it, posting negative reviews online, and this would eliminate the likelihood of this model appearing in our rating.

For example, the device has a Smart TV function, although it works and is somewhat unstable (for the sake of economy, the Japanese did not introduce a powerful processor here). The TV also has a fairly large number of connectors - the buyer is provided with two HDMI and USB jacks. The light weight of the TV can also please you - even a young girl can install it in her room.

Advantages:

  • Smart TV available;
  • Built-in FM radio;
  • There is an automatic volume leveling function;
  • Acceptable number of connectors;
  • Small dimensions and weight.

Flaws:

  • Low display resolution;
  • Some specimens have noticeable highlights;
  • The remote control is too small and light;
  • Regular slowdowns.

Mid-budget Sony TVs

Only those LCD TVs from the Japanese company that cost more than 26 thousand rubles have a decent set of capabilities. At the same time, you shouldn’t even expect the maximum from them. Most often, even such devices have limitations in terms of sound and refresh rate. Let's look at peculiar exceptions to the rule, costing no more than 45 thousand rubles.

Sony KDL-40RE353

One of the most inexpensive Japanese TVs, the screen of which has Full HD resolution. For this model, Russian sellers are asking about 30 thousand rubles. Of course, the device could not help but receive a number of simplifications. For example, the refresh rate of the screen installed here is left at 50 Hz.

Also, the manufacturer did not introduce support for the DVB-S2 standard here, and therefore you will have to use a receiver to connect a satellite dish. Some buyers will not like the fact that there is only one USB port on the TV body.

However, you shouldn’t think that the Sony KDL-40RE353 was included in our rating in vain. Reviews of it show that TV rightfully takes its place in the apartments of thousands of Russians. It has a 40-inch diagonal, which allows you to place the device in the living room or bedroom. It is impossible not to note the weight, which even with the stand does not exceed 6.9 kg.

Alas, the savings of the Japanese manufacturer are still noticeable. Firstly, he did not integrate Smart TV here, which is why the functionality of the TV seems limited. Secondly, the engineers decided not to work with sound, introducing traditional 5-watt speakers into the TV. It's a shame that competitors offer more advanced solutions for the same money.

Advantages:

  • Modest dimensions and light weight;
  • Quite a good display with Direct LED backlighting;
  • Stylish design;
  • Optimal price tag.

Flaws:

  • Minimum number of connectors;
  • Standard sweep frequency;
  • No Smart TV;
  • Not the best sound.

The screen diagonal of this TV is 43 inches (109 cm). The device costs about 45 thousand rubles, so it boasts advanced capabilities. In particular, you can connect many other devices to the TV - there are four HDMI connectors and three USB ports on the body. But most of all, buyers appreciate the acquisition for the increased scanning frequency to 800 Hz. Smooth action scenes are guaranteed!

The TV also deserves positive reviews thanks to the installed acoustics, the total power of which reaches 20 W. However, it does not include a subwoofer, so the sound cannot be called ideal. The device also boasts support for Smart TV, based on the Android TV operating system. Stuttering is practically eliminated, since such an expensive TV is already equipped with a fairly powerful processor.

Advantages:

  • Large and colorful screen;
  • The screen refresh rate is 800 Hz;
  • Loud noise;
  • There is a Smart TV function;
  • A huge number of connectors;
  • Built-in Bluetooth module.

Flaws:

  • Only one TV tuner is built in;
  • Not everyone will like the price tag;
  • There may be some problems with the software.

The cost of this TV has been reduced to a very reasonable 36 thousand rubles. In this regard, the device received a number of restrictions. But they do not concern the design - the device looks very beautiful, not least due to the elegant stand.

Interestingly, the Opera TV operating system is used as a Smart TV, which is rarely found in other devices from the Japanese manufacturer. This model is also equipped with support for all digital TV standards, including satellite - Sony usually saves on this. Another advantage is a couple of TV tuners that allow you to watch channels from different sources.

Well, what about the restrictions, the presence of which is mentioned above? Firstly, the device does not have the largest number of connectors. Two HDMI and USB jacks each - by modern standards this may seem like an insufficient set.

Secondly, the TV did not include a Bluetooth module that would help connect wireless headphones. Thirdly, the screen installed here has a refresh rate of only 50 Hz.

Advantages:

  • Smart TV available;
  • There is support for all digital TV standards;
  • Built-in two TV tuners;
  • The TV is complemented by an FM radio;
  • Large and colorful screen.

Flaws:

  • Low sweep frequency;
  • The simplest acoustic system;
  • Huge and not the most convenient remote control.

Top Sony TVs

Any TV made by a Japanese manufacturer is quite expensive. But you should expect maximum functionality only from those models that have the highest price tag. It is these devices that can have an OLED display that produces incredibly deep black colors.

Also, such devices can boast a huge number of connectors. In short, let's look at the best models included in the top segment.

This TV is not worth buying for a bedroom or children's room. Its 65-inch screen will only look great in a very large room. The device can be placed on some large cabinet, but it is much easier to hang it on the wall. However, it is not much simpler - you will need the help of two people, because the TV weighs 21.5 kg.

The display of this model has. HDR support is also implemented here, which will be most appreciated by owners of modern game consoles. You can display content on the screen both from external devices and using the operating system. There are no slowdowns in the browser or other applications. It would be strange to see them on a TV for 100 thousand rubles!

The product can please you with many other characteristics. For example, the scanning frequency here is increased to 800 Hz, which is something that almost no TV created by the two main competitors can please. It is also worth noting the presence of Bluetooth - this allows you to use wireless headphones.

Surprisingly, even such an expensive TV is not without several drawbacks. In particular, who stopped you from building a subwoofer into it? Instead, its output is combined with a headphone jack (you will have to buy the device separately). And why does the Wi-Fi module belong to a standard that is not the fastest? These questions remain unanswered.

Advantages:

  • Built-in two independent TV tuners;
  • Satellite TV is also supported;
  • Bright and large screen with 4K resolution;
  • Built-in Smart TV function;
  • The display refresh rate has been increased to 800 Hz;
  • A very large number of connectors;
  • There is a Bluetooth module.

Flaws:

  • Modest acoustics with a total power of 20 W;
  • belongs to the 802.11n standard;
  • Energy consumption reaches 206 W;
  • Blacks are not deep enough.

This TV immediately attracts your attention. The fact is that its screen seems to have no frames at all. At least, this is the impression one gets in those moments when some picture is displayed on the display. The resolution here is increased to 3840 x 2160 pixels.

That is, you can comfortably watch 4K content on such a TV. Moreover, support for extended dynamic range has been introduced here, which makes the picture even more colorful. The scanning frequency is 400 Hz, which is also good news.

The device can please you not only with its display. Everything is fine with him and other components. For example, the buyer will use four HDMI connectors and three USB ports to connect external devices. Headphones can be connected wirelessly using Bluetooth.

Finally, there is also Smart TV here. Android TV is used as the operating system. In short, for 62 thousand rubles the buyer will receive a very decent TV. If we were to choose the winner of our selection, it would definitely be the Sony KD-43XD8077, reviews of which are written entirely in a positive way.

Advantages:

  • There are two TV tuners;
  • Built-in Bluetooth wireless module;
  • Maximum number of connectors;
  • Voice control possible;
  • Relatively light weight - 12.3 kg;
  • High sweep frequency;
  • The picture is displayed in 4K resolution;
  • There is Smart TV.

Flaws:

  • The acoustic system cannot be called ideal.

For a large living room. Its screen has 49 inches (124 cm), the picture is displayed on it in 4K resolution. The width of the frame around the display is kept to a minimum. It should be noted that the screen was created using IPS technology, so the viewing angles were maximum.

But this solution also has a downside - black colors can hardly be called very deep. It is also difficult to force an IPS screen to update at a very high frequency. We can only be glad that at least HDR support is here to stay.

What can a TV for 73 thousand rubles please you with, besides a fairly high-quality picture? Most buyers, judging by the reviews, appreciated the built-in set of connectors, which has all the necessary sockets. The device also includes a Bluetooth module that allows you to connect headphones without any cable.

Two independent TV tuners and many supported digital TV standards are also an important part of this model. 16 GB of internal memory can be considered a pleasant bonus (although in fact only half of this volume is available). The TV also has minimal weight - you can hang it on the bracket even without the help of a second person.

Advantages:

  • Built-in two TV tuners;
  • Voice control possible;
  • The weight of the TV without stand is only 12.2 kg;
  • There are 8 GB of internal memory;
  • Lots of connectors;
  • Built-in Bluetooth module;
  • All digital TV standards are supported;
  • Smart TV available;
  • Large 4K display with HDR support.

Flaws:

  • Not the fastest Wi-Fi module;
  • The acoustics could have been better;
  • Some people may find the remote control too complicated.

Conclusion - why it’s worth overpaying for “Japanese”

The Sony brand has been present on the TV market for a very long time. At one time, they produced both kinescope and plasma models. Since then, the situation has not changed - the Japanese company continues to make a significant markup on its products.

At least now you know which Sony LCD TVs are worth spending your money on. Rest assured, the models reviewed in our selection do not disappoint their customers in any way.

In 2018, Sony is adding another OLED model to its TV line. All other models are LCD TVs. And this year they moved the Z9D into the lineup from last year. Sony has added the X900F (XF90) with local dimming. Google's Android TV platform is included in most models, and support for Dolby Vision is expanding.

Sony lineup for 2018

It's fair to say that the 2018 lineup is largely a continuation of last year's lineup. At least for the spring lineup, Sony may add additional models in the fall. Last year's A1 OLED model, as well as 2016's Z9D TV, will carry over to 2018.

However, Sony's lineup looks strong, as the company will offer models based on both OLED technology and LCD displays. Sony will add a new A8 OLED that will have the same specs as the A1 but a different design. The company will also replace last year's XE90 with an updated XF90, which features full-array FALD LED lighting (previously called Direct LED) and an all-new motion imaging system called X-Motion Clarity. As with last year, the new 90 series models could prove to be some of the best value-for-money LCD TVs out there, especially if you want HDR included in the package.

More affordable LCD models (X850F and below) will use edge LED backlighting. While this allows for relatively thin and sleek TVs, such backlighting cannot precisely control the contrast and brightness required for HDR video playback. This refers to dynamic contrast and brightness, which depend on the backlight level. All of Sony's 2018 models, including Full HD TVs, will be "HDR compatible," but that means they'll be able to play back HDR video as normal, and not necessarily as HDR. If you need HDR, then you should aim for models in the higher class.

Dolby Vision will be included in models from XF90 and above

Speaking of HDR, Sony will be including support for HDR10 and HLG formats on every TV this year. Dolby Vision is also expanding and will be included in the X900F and above this year. This is good news considering that the lack of Dolby Vision in last year's X900E was a major drawback. However, keep in mind that Dolby Vision will require a firmware update, which Sony plans to release in the summer of 2018.

Sony will continue its partnership with Google, and all 4K models will come with the Android TV operating system. Along with the system, applications and games will be available on the Google Play Store, including Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube. 4K TVs will be running Android 7.0, but Sony has promised to install Android 8.0 (Oreo) through an update. Will also be built in with Android and Chromecast.

Those devices that will be produced in Europe will have two tuners. But this will only affect models from XF85 and above. The second tuner is used to record programs when the TV is connected to the first one. To do this you will have to purchase an external hard drive.

The 3D format has almost disappeared from the market from all manufacturers. Sony will only have one model with 3D support - the Z9D. And that’s because this model was released back in 2016.

All models with 4K resolution will be equipped with 4 HDMI ports and 3 USB ports, and will also include a Wi-Fi module. HD models will have two HDMI ports.

The new models will begin arriving in stores in March. Some models will appear throughout the year. So the list of models may be expanded before the end of the year.

Sony 2018 TVs will be labeled with the letter "F".

  • XF = 2018
  • XE = 2017
  • XD = 2016

Have you decided to buy a brand new TV receiver, but don’t know whether to go for a Sony or Samsung TV? Let's try to change the idea of popular models by analyzing Sony or Samsung - TVs from the world's two most famous brands.

First, let's note a number of positive aspects of Sony TVs:

  • good image, uniform illumination of the entire display. Achieved through Direct LED technology;
  • high-quality sound;
  • 3D function in many models;
  • attractive design and decent build quality;
  • The Android operating system is used by almost all smartphones.

There are very few negative reviews, but they can also be:

  • when switching channels, some slowdowns are possible (5-10 seconds);
  • an incomprehensible remote control, but over time the owners adapt and the inconvenience disappears;
  • heavy weight compared to competitors;
  • high price of improved models.

Pros and cons of Samsung TVs

In fact, there are a lot of advantages of Samsung TVs, but let’s highlight the key ones:

  • its own OS – Tizen, which has a lot of applications developed specifically for this brand;
  • touch remote control provides additional ease of control;
  • recognition of voice and gesture commands (in most recent TVs);
  • excellent color rendition, high-quality picture and the same sound. The display shows the image without distorting it when viewed from the side or from any angle, even in cheap TVs;
  • quick response to commands.

There are practically no downsides, all devices correspond to their price. But among owners there are isolated complaints about:

  • lack of instructions for the PU, and since it is very functional, it is difficult for beginners to understand how to work with it;
  • lack of a camera in some models (if you plan to make video calls, you will have to purchase this gadget as an additional one);
  • Difficulty setting up TV channels.

Comparison of Sony and Samsung TVs

Let's make a small comparison of Sony and Samsung TVs in 2019, based on the advantages that companies have given their devices over the past few years.

Screen resolution

There are no definite differences in this point between both brands. They produce TVs with both high resolution Full HD and equip their new products with more modern 4K technology.

Matrix type

Recently, absolutely all new products are equipped with two types of matrices:

  • TFT LCD (liquid crystal matrices);
  • OLED.

Both screen types have decent image quality. But OLED is considered better and more modern– the picture is obtained thanks to a thousand LEDs, which create natural colors, intense light transmission and high resolution compared to LCD screens.

In different configurations of Samsung and Sony you can find any of these matrices. It’s worth assessing for yourself which one is more comfortable for the eye. If you don’t understand at first glance, then it’s better to buy a new type - OLED.

Price

Good Samsung TVs have a significantly higher price compared to Sony. But Samsung also has a lot of inexpensive offers.

Additional functionality

Both manufacturers are constantly increasing the variety of functionality of their products. Depending on the cost and configuration, TVs are equipped with the following additional features:

  • viewing volumetric video in 3D format;
  • curved screen;
  • Smart TV – on most TV devices;
  • voice and gesture control (for example, adjusting the volume, calling the desired command);
  • a high resolution.

operating system

Each company equips TVs with a Smart function defined by the OS:

  • Samsung – Tizen;
  • Sony - Android.

Initially, it may seem that Android is familiar to everyone, and this makes it more convenient and practical. But that's not true. Most application developers direct them to work on smartphones, and there are significantly fewer programs for TV, which is a disadvantage of such an OS on Smart TV.

In Tizen it's the other way around. Samsun programmers are constantly improving their creation, adding new updates and a large number of programs.

What's better

Based on the analyzed qualities of Samsung and Sony, we can safely say that the two manufacturers produce TVs with identical characteristics and keep up with the times. The difference may be:

  • price (Sony is more expensive),
  • operating system.

Above we discussed the main parameters that the two best manufacturers – Samsung and Sony – provide their TVs with. When visiting a store, you should pay attention to:

  • display size;
  • its color rendering, matrix type;
  • appearance.

Now you can choose the right new purchase for your home - a Samsung or Sony TV.
