Update for Sony Xperia Z. Is it possible to update Android on Sony? Device update. How to update a Sony TV: solving possible problems

Sony Xperia Z1 You can easily update to the latest version of the OS using either stock or custom firmware. Next, we will describe in detail all the available options, as well as the necessary preparatory steps, by completing which you will update your Sony Xperia Z1.

The simplest and most affordable option is OTA updates. Such updates are automatically sent to the smartphone, and installation is carried out in just a couple of touches. At the same time, all settings and personal data remain in place. The second option is to manually install official updates. In this case, it is necessary to wipe, so all personal data should be saved as backup copies. This method is necessary if official updates have hit the network, but for your Sony Xperia Z1 is not yet available. Manual installation is also suitable for fixing some errors and restoring the warranty after using a custom ROM.

In addition, you can update your smartphone's operating system using custom firmware. In this case Sony Xperia Z1 will acquire a completely new user interface, various unique features, as well as an optimized version of the OS, which has higher performance and reduced energy costs. To install custom firmware, you will also need to do a wipe, so the preparatory stage includes creating backups, this time not only of important data, files and settings, but also of the OS itself in the form Nandroid backup. In addition, you need to get root access and install a custom Recovery image.

For the second and third methods you also need:

  • disable anti-virus protection on your computer;
  • enable USB debugging;
  • charge Sony Xperia Z1;
  • use an update file that is specifically designed for Sony Xperia Z1;
  • realize that all responsibility for the operation lies with you.

Oreo for Sony is finally available for some users. Google released Oreo back in August and then Android 8.1 in December 2017, finally phone owners are slowly receiving the update. And while Sony is one of the fastest manufacturers, not all smartphones received Android Oreo. Here's everything we know so far about Sony's Android 8.0 update cycle.

Surprisingly, Sony became the first manufacturer other than Google to release Oreo, starting with the Xperia XZ Premium. The update offered performance improvements, new features and bug fixes. Xperia X and Compact are now receiving the update. Then expect some updates in early 2018.

Android 8.0 Oreo is full of new features, including updated notifications, improved battery management and support for picture-in-picture mode. All this will be available for Sony smartphones. During the Oreo announcement, Google confirmed that several partners were already working on updates, Sony being one of them.

Popular smartphones from all major manufacturers will receive a free update to Android 8.0 Oreo in the coming months, if they haven't already received it. Google first updated its own devices, then manufacturers began beta testing phases. Most of them have already completed, but updates are still rolling out slowly. Right now, Sony is ahead of most other manufacturers in the speed with which updates are distributed. Additionally, Sony has already launched two smartphones running Oreo out of the box, the ZX1 Compact and the Xperia XA1 Plus at the end of 2017.

UpdateAndroid 8.0 forSony

While it's great that Sony has already released several smartphones with Google's latest software update, it doesn't help current owners at all. Users of the original Xperia X line, Xperia XZ Premium, as well as the Xperia XA, are wondering when they will get their fix and software update. Well, we have good news. The update is available from the first week of February for most of you.

Luckily, Sony revealed the full update roadmap earlier this year. Here is the list of phones for Android 8.0 Oreo update, some phones may be included in the list later. The company has confirmed updates for the following devices:

Xperia X Performance

Xperia X Compact

Xperia XZ Premium

Xperia XA1 Ultra

Xperia Touch and Xperia XA1 Plus

As you can see above, Sony is preparing to update a long list of devices that will receive Android 8.0 Oreo sooner rather than later. This line includes premium flagship smartphones, budget devices and everything else offered by the manufacturer. Including Touch, Android-enabled projector. This is an encouraging sign for Sony smartphone owners.

However, every smartphone on the Android 8.0 Oreo update track is around 14 months or less old. If you're still using a smartphone that's about two years old or older, you won't find it on the lists. So while we're happy to see a wide range of phones upgrading, devices over a year old are on the verge of ending support.

However, we have seen Sony's Android 8.0 Oreo updates hit the ZX, ZX Premium, Xperia X and Xperia X Compact. More updates are coming soon and we will update the article as soon as we know more. If you have X, go to Settings - About phone - Check for updates.

UpdateAndroid 8.0Oreo

As we already said, several Sony smartphones have already received Android 8.0 Oreo. Additionally, the impressive Sony Xperia XZ Premium received Google software back in October. That's a month faster than any other Android manufacturer. Here we are in February 2018, and important flagships from manufacturers like LG and Samsung are still running Android 7.0, and Oreo is still a long way off.

So what about the rest of the users with other phones? The company has become one of Google's top partners for software updates. Sony was first to show off Nougat with the Xperia X Performance last year, and now it's moving quickly with Oreo.

However, we don't have a time frame for any other Sony phones at this time. The fact that some of them have already received an update is of course a promising sign, but nothing else came out at the end of 2017. We expected updates in November and December, but this did not happen.

Ultimately, expect Android 8.0 Oreo to hit Sony devices in the next 1-2 months, maybe even sooner. If the company provides details on a full update schedule, we will update this information. In any case, updates will arrive in the first half of 2018 and hopefully most of them will be released before the end of March.

What's new inAndroid 8.0Oreo?

Android 8.0 Oreo brings many new features that you can use to improve your phone experience. Users will be able to use new notifications that are easier to manage, as well as a new picture-in-picture mode for watching videos while working. Essentially, you'll be able to watch videos (or video chat) while doing other things on your phone. The changes will affect icons, make typing easier and help with automatic filling of fields, for example, in Google Chrome. Not to mention the fast performance and significant changes in battery life.

On our website you will find an article dedicated to the new features of Android 8.0 Oreo. Basically, expect speed, smart solutions and smooth operation.

Additionally, Sony has made significant contributions to this software update. You'll get all the new features and changes from Google, followed by improvements with patches from Sony. One of the most exciting is the company's Sony 3D Creator tool, which has gained recognition for its 3D scanning feature.

You'll also like Predictive Capture, which brings some of the camera's smart features including auto focus, promises improved audio quality, redesigned app shortcuts, and better battery management on top of Sony's already excellent interface. The selection of features or changes may vary from device to device.

Final Thoughts

Now Android 8.0 Oreo and even the 8.1 update are a complete secret for most devices. Some companies like OnePlus, Sony and HTC quickly received the update but are still waiting. Samsung is getting closer to Oreo, but is months behind Sony.

However, Sony failed to deliver as many updates as we expected in 2017. This means Sony phone owners will have to wait a little longer than expected before they get the new software on their smartphone. If you are one of the few lucky owners of the above mentioned devices, enjoy Android 8.0 Oreo. For everyone else, stay tuned as we will have information very soon. We expect big announcements in February or March, we will update the article with any information that becomes available.

From time to time, the company's developers create new firmware versions to update Sony Xperia smartphones. New versions bring some changes in software, allowing for better performance and overall functioning of the device. I have repeatedly received questions about how to install an update on Sony Xperia of different models, how to update the device when a new firmware version arrived, or how to restore the smartphone if some kind of malfunction occurred.

Over-the-air installation

The simplest method that does not need detailed explanation. When your smartphone is connected to the Internet (preferably stable Wi-Fi), it will independently conduct a quick analysis for updates, or you can do this by going to Settings - About phone - Software update or by logging into the Update Center application. There you will see whether there is a software update and if there is one, just click on the arrow, after which it will download and automatically update. Everything is simple and without unnecessary hassle. The smartphone battery must be charged at least 50% at the time of installation.

Update usingPCCompanion

I usually update my Sony Xperia Z2 using a proprietary one and recommend this method to you. I should immediately note that the battery needs to be charged to at least 50% in order for the application to allow the update.

And so, we simply connect our Sony Xperia to a personal computer on which the specified application is installed, after which it will automatically check for an update and if there is one, it will notify you. Even if you accidentally close the information window, don’t worry, because at the top there will be a message in large font indicating “Phone/tablet software update available” by clicking on which you will proceed to install it, or go to the “Support Zone” menu item - in “Software update” phone\tablet” click “Start”.

After this, the whole process is intuitive and simple - just read what is written, what stage is going on, and click buttons like “Next”, “Accept”, “Yes” and the like, agreeing to the conditions. There should be no problems here; below are screenshots of the process.

After this, a window like the one below will appear and the smartphone will turn off, then the update will begin.

At the end of the process, you will be asked to disconnect the phone from the USB cable and turn it on, and by clicking on the “Next” button you will be notified that the update operation is complete.

Software recovery inSonyXperia

Previously, the SUS (Sony Update Service) application was used for recovery, but after its support was discontinued, this is now done using the same PC Companion. There are different situations when you need to restore the system to its original working state. For example, something began to work poorly, it went wrong, and so on. There are many situations where it is possible to return to normal operating condition only through restoration. Please note that this will erase all data from the memory of your smartphone or tablet!

And so, to restore the Sony Xperia, connect it to the PC, launch “Companion” and go to “Support Zone” - in “Phone/tablet software update”, click “Start”. You will be notified that the device has the latest firmware, however, if problems are observed, you can restore it.

More experienced users can also use FlashTool to install firmware from a ready-made FTF file -

Don't know how to update your smartphone Sony on OS Android? I will help you!

If you are the owner of wonderful equipment from the company Sony(formerly Sony Ericcson), then you probably thought about updating the software components and the operating system itself. Just recently I had the opportunity to “chat” with Sony Xperia V, which was successfully updated to the latest version.

So, what do we need in order to successfully update programs and the Android operating system on your Sony smartphone?
First of all - a fresh mind (preferably not after the holiday), the smartphone itself, which supports new versions Android 4.x.x, USB cable for connecting the phone to a PC, Internet access, program Xperia Companion latest version.

Step 1.

You need to download and install the program for Windows (below – Files)

Step 2.

Open the program, connect Sony via USB. You can make a backup if you want, but you probably won't need it.

Step 3.

Press the button

at the same time, you must have an Internet connection (check, just in case, whether the pages open in the browser (Opera, Chrome...)), it is advisable that the electricity is not turned off at this moment =)) If you have a firewall installed, then give access program on the Internet, since you won’t be able to download anything manually.

Step 4.

We wait for the program to automatically update your phone.

After which the program will say that the phone is updated

The program will warn you that the phone may take a long time to turn on for the first time after the update. This is due to the fact that it is being updated.

Why do you need to update?

First of all, this is security and more advanced energy-saving technologies of the OS itself. If you don’t like the fact that your phone drains quickly, then with each new version of Android it becomes more stable, faster and more energy efficient.

Let's look at an example of solving one problem, for example, you don't know how to remove a graphic password that you set completely by accident and forgot. To do this, you need to do a complete reset - Hard Reset. We take our mobile phone, connect it to the computer with a USB cable and follow the further instructions. To enlarge images simply click on them.

1) Download the program Sony Update Service:

There is nothing complicated here. Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions (OK > Accept > Install > Finish). After installation, the program checks for updates via the Internet and synchronizes with the phone.

Click "Begin" and select the model of your phone/device, click "Further".

Instructions will appear on the screen, follow the steps strictly:
- Turn off the phone,
- Press and hold the “volume down” button (different models may have a different button),
- Connect the phone to the computer.

We confirm our consent to the update and proceed step by step according to the prompts on the screen. The software update will begin, but it is strictly not recommended to turn off the phone. You are required to wait for the process to complete, after which your smart will be as good as new.

Good luck with your updates and less glitches!
