The digital signal arriving through the receiver antenna allows you to watch more TV channels throughout the country without loss of quality or interference. The signal itself can be sent either to an antenna, which is attached to a set-top box, or directly to the TV. It all depends on how modern model of this device you have.

With devices that support DVB-T2, everything is simple. In order to connect to digital TV, just insert the cable into the appropriate connector and perform a simple channel setup. If your TV is outdated and does not support receiving this type of signal, then in order to view digital channels you should purchase a special attachment. What is needed for this

Connecting a digital set-top box

The receiver can be connected either to the TV directly or via a DVD or monitor, but for the latter two options you will most likely need to purchase a special adapter.

To connect the receiver directly, you should follow these steps:

1. Take the TV box out of the box and remove the protective film from it. It is necessary to remove the film. Otherwise, the receiver may overheat and break.
2. Take the TV cable and cut off the protective sheath, thus exposing 1-15 millimeters of the cable on both sides. The sheath should be stripped very carefully so as not to damage the shielding film, which is designed to protect the center conductor.
3. Carefully peel back the shiny protective film and screw the f-connectors to the wires.
4. Connect the TV to the set-top box using a cable.
5. Insert the wires into the tulip-type connectors on the TV and set-top box.
6. Connect the antenna to the TV. The antenna itself should be installed on the external wall of the house or on your balcony, if it is not glazed. At the same time, make sure that it is not touched by tree branches or power cables.

In our country, many people still use televisions that were produced back in the Soviet years or in the early 90s. Connecting a receiver to such devices is not so easy - they do not have tulip-type connectors. Additionally, some models have scart outputs, but these only accept component signals.

These problems can be solved in two ways:

• Find a circuit for an adapter from the A/V input to scart and solder it yourself;
• Purchase a special adapter from the store to which you can attach an RCA cable from the set-top box or an adapter cable.

There are even more ancient models of TVs of the “Electron” type that do not provide any inputs at all, except for an antenna connector. Through this connector, a modulated high-frequency signal enters the TV, so in order to watch digital TV on a device of this type, you will need to additionally purchase a modulator that will be equipped with RCA connectors.

Receiver setup

In order to set up digital channels on your TV, after connecting the set-top box to it, you will need to perform the following steps:

1. On the remote remote control press the "Menu" button.
2. In the window that opens, go to the settings menu.
3. You need to select Russia as the country if it is not the default.
4. Now you need to select the signal standard. By default, DTV-T/DTV-T2 is installed, that is, analog and digital TV, respectively. If you leave it this way, the TV will search for both channels.
5. You will be prompted to perform automatic or manual setting. Select Automatic and press the “OK” button on the remote control.
6. Now you need to wait a while until all available free and pay TV channels are detected. When you complete your search, click “Save.”

After the channels have been deleted, you should repeat the same steps as for automatic search, but instead of auto-tuning, select manual search. Checking the signal quality

To make sure that you did everything correctly and everything is working well, you should check the quality of signal reception. This is not difficult to do. The receiver must have a button called INFO. By clicking on it three times, a window will appear on the screen with information about signal quality, channel number, frequency and encoding. If the two existing indicators are above 60%, then everything is fine and the signal level is quite acceptable.

Perhaps in your model of TV set-top box this button will be called something else. To find out what this button is called for you, look at the instructions and read the purpose of the buttons.

If your TV receives several multiplexes, be sure to check the signal quality on each of them. This is due to the fact that each of them is transmitted and received using different transmitters, so it is quite possible that the signal will be good in one multiplex, but not in the second.

First, choose a connection method

If everything was done correctly, then on the screen you will see a welcome window in which you will need to select the language, region, mode and image format, as well as the search mode. Set the necessary parameters using the set-top box remote control. You don't have to change the settings and leave them as default. Click "OK" to move to the next window.

If in the “Search mode” section there is “DVB-T + DVB-T2”, then the receiver will immediately find all the channels available for your region on its own. But this method will only work if you already have a working antenna pointed in the desired direction. Once the auto search is complete, you can close the menu and enjoy watching. Other users need to perform antenna positioning. There is nothing complicated about this, all you need is to make a few settings in the receiver menu.

List available channels loaded manually or automatically

If you didn’t have an antenna before and it only appeared now, together with the DVB-T2 set-top box, while in the welcome window, press the button to call up the menu on your remote control. Go to the “DVBT Setup” section and select “Channel Search”. In the window that opens, set “Search Mode”. Here you can set both “by channel” and “by frequency”. There is no big difference here - choose what you like best. Next, set the search band to “UHF”.

To simplify the channel search process, go to a special website with information on frequency channels for your specific city. In principle, it is not necessary to do this; you can do without it, but this approach will make the setup process easier and faster. Select the desired value in the “Frequency channel” item. If the direction was chosen correctly, then after a couple of seconds you will see the “Signal Intensity” and “Signal Quality” scales filled in at the bottom of the window. If the scale level is good, then click “Search”. After this, the receiver will perform tuning in the specified frequency channel.

If you do not know the desired direction of the antenna, take it and rotate it smoothly, watching the intensity and quality scales. Once they are filled to an acceptable level, attach the antenna and search. Once the process of setting up TV channels is completed, you can exit the menu and start watching.

We already have televisions and a digital TV tuner at home, but we came across the Perfeo PF-T2-1 receiver in the store at a very attractive price, only 600 rubles! Double intrigue - miniature size and price played a decisive role in the choice of this device.

However, all the tuners that I came across had raw software without the ability to update the firmware. In other words, to a greater or lesser extent, every tuner and TV has glitches, functions that do not work or do not work correctly.

The power socket is round; if you do not plan to connect a flash drive, a 5 Volt 1 Ampere power supply will do. If you want to connect a flash drive, then you need a 5 Volt 2 Ampere unit. You can use a mobile phone charger; fortunately, an adapter for connecting to a charger is included.

The external sensor of the IR remote control is attached with double-sided Velcro to a place convenient for you. There is also a red-blue indicator inside it that displays the operating mode of the receiver.

And now, all the wires are connected, the remote control is charged with batteries. Turn on auto channel search! Caught the first channel... We are waiting... Nothing changes on the screen for a long time, and there is no reaction to the remote control either.
Blue screen - that's how our test ended receiver Perfeo PF-T2. Neither turning it on again nor dancing with a tambourine could bring it back to life. Out of curiosity, I took it apart to see what happened there???

How to connect Perfeo PF-T2-1?

After writing the article, I was asked to explain how this receiver is connected. Indeed, the instructions for the device are quite sparse; I couldn’t find a connection diagram for the Perfeo PF-T2-1 on the Internet, but I’ve already returned my copy. But I found a video (it’s at the end of the article) where they show not ours, but a very similar model.

Video notes:

1) At the beginning of the video, the USB connector (a flat one, if anyone doesn’t know) is plugged into the TV. I don't recommend doing this. More precisely, you can check the performance in this way at the very beginning. Then I advise you to buy Charger. It looks something like this, color and shape don’t matter, the main thing is that there is a rectangular connector like in the photo, and the current is 1.5 or 2 amperes. In extreme cases, 1 ampere is possible.

2) Connect “Tulips” (three multi-colored connectors) to the TV input. But older TVs may not have a red connector, then connect only white and yellow. If the TV has more than three tulip sockets, plug into those with the inscription “INPUT” or “IN”.

3) The infrared receiver (time in video 1:45) of Perfeo PF-T2-1 has a completely different connector - round and thin. It connects to the “IR IN” socket. Be sure to insert it all the way, you may have to press harder. If you don’t insert it all the way, nothing will work!
The infrared receiver should be turned with the dark red side towards us, and there is no need to tuck it behind the TV. Any objects on the way to the remote control will interfere with switching and setting channels.

After turning on the TV and receiver, press the “menu” button on the remote control and select channel settings on the screen, usually this item is called “ Automatic search programs."
