Setting the date and time on your computer is sometimes simply necessary. Below I will explain why. After the unjustified transition to summer and winter time was finally canceled in our country, setting the system clock became especially relevant. Thousands of users have never been able to reset their clocks, and all files are created with incorrect time formats. Some people may not care about this, but if you work with electronic documents, then there may be overlaps. Imagine that you send some file with a report to a higher organization, it arrives there, they process it, and suddenly it turns out that the file was created a day later from the date of creation of this file? In most cases, no one pays attention to this, but it happens that for some reason you have to prove that you created and sent the report on time, but in the file properties there is a completely different date. And this may not work in your favor.

Also for this reason, even an antivirus program can get confused and fail. Even so, you need to set the date and time on your computer. Sometimes this is quite easy to do!

Correction of date and time values is usually done manually.

Open menu START - CONTROL PANEL - DATE AND TIME .

Setting the system date and time

Call the command Start - Control Panel - Date and Time. The Properties: Date and Time dialog box opens.
Open the Date and Time tab,
In the Date panel, select the year, month, and day.
In the Time panel, use the three-section counter to set the current time accurate to the second. Each counter field (out of three) is specified separately.

If a computer is connected to the Internet, it can communicate with other computers scattered around the globe. In order for information about the dates and times of information exchange to be correct, you must correctly indicate the time zone in which the computer is localized. You can also change the date and time through the BIOS in the main menu; this menu can be found next to the boot menu.

On the same tab you can enable a special automatic transition mode. Twice a year he will independently change the clock to summer and winter time. This is convenient if Windows XP is the only operating system on your computer. Otherwise, it is better not to rely on automation and change the clock manually.

During Windows installation, the installation wizard gives you the opportunity to change the date and time before the installation is complete. If you want the date to be correct from the very beginning of using your computer, we recommend using this function.

If your computer is connected to the Internet, you can automate system clock adjustments. To transmit exact time values, a protocol is used that takes into account inevitable delays in data transmission. To make adjustments regularly, select the checkbox on the Internet Time tab. Synchronize with an Internet time server. The server used for synchronization is selected in the Server drop-down list. You can also manually specify the address of a different time server.

Typically, the readings are updated weekly. If there is no Internet connection at the right time, clock adjustment is postponed until the next connection. If for some reason the system clock is lost, synchronization can be performed immediately by clicking on the “Update Now” button.

There were times when Windows set the time zone incorrectly. It is not known exactly how time synchronization occurs on Windows, but the fact remains: the OS does not know local laws. Therefore, the task of changing the time on a computer with Windows 10 is relevant. There is also an option to switch to summer and winter time automatically. For Russians today it is no longer of interest.

The time setting was always on the PC. The parameters were previously set in the BIOS, as well as from DOS mode through special interrupt numbers. This allowed flexible regulation of system events. Julian calendar

Looking ahead a little, I can note that this process takes no more than one or two minutes of your time. I will show an example based on the Windows 7 operating system (everything is the same in Vista), although in essence this procedure is practically no different on other Windows operating systems, including XP or 8. So, let's go.

Changing time in the easiest way

If you look at the bottom right side of your screen, you will see the clock and date there. It is possible that in your case only the clock will be visible, this does not matter. You need to move the mouse cursor over time and click on it once with the left mouse button.

After this, a small panel will appear in front of you, where you will see the current date and time in the form of a clock. There is also a line that says “Changing date and time settings...”, which you need to click on.

You will now see a small window in front of you with various settings, including changing time zones. You only need to click on the button that says “Change date and time...”.

And again a new window opens. With it you can change both the date and time. In the case of time, I think there will be no problems, since you just need to enter the necessary numbers in the empty window.

Changing the date is also no problem. You can select the month by simply clicking on the right and left arrows; you can select the current date directly in the calendar that you see in front of you.

To be able to select a year, click on the month.

This will open the option to select the month in the window, as well as the year (you can select it by pressing the left or right buttons).

Clicking on the year will bring up the year selection.

After you complete all the manipulations that I described, that is, simply set the date you need, be sure to click the OK button so that the changed data is saved. Otherwise, the changes will not be saved. The process itself, as you can see, is extremely simple and convenient. You will practice a couple of times and you will change the date and time literally with your eyes closed.

By the way, these parameters can also be configured using the control panel.

In order for the time to automatically synchronize with the Internet, select the “Internet Time” tab in the window and click the “Change settings” button.

Check the box next to “Synchronize with an Internet time server” and click OK.

Now the time will automatically synchronize with the Internet. Unfortunately, I would not recommend doing this, since there is a problem with the transition to winter and summer time, as well as back, so as a result, your clock may be fast or late by one hour.

Changing the time using the command line

If you regularly read my blog, you probably remember how I talked about. This is not difficult to do, so I won’t repeat myself. I will only say one thing - in this case, the command line must be launched as an administrator, otherwise nothing will work. This can be done, for example, in this simple way: click on the “Start” button, then “All Programs” - “Accessories” - “Command Prompt”. Right-click on the icon and select “Run as administrator” from the menu.

At the command line, you must enter the following command: date 12/31/2014 without quotes, where the first digit means the day, the second digit means the month, and the third digit means the year. Then press Enter.

It is also possible to change the date through the BIOS menu. But I want to believe that it won’t come to that.

The clock settings on the computer are reset

Step 1: Turn Internet Time Settings On or Off

For some computers, it is possible to configure the clock on the computer to synchronize with an Internet time server when the computer connects to the Internet.
