Two more modifications will be supplied to the market: with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory, as well as a maximum version with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of ROM. Both configurations are characterized by increased operating frequencies of the processor, graphics accelerator and RAM.

Hence the difference in performance: some Mi5 (our case) scores about 117,000 virtual parrots in AnTuTu, older models already score under 130,000 points and automatically classify the smartphone in the category of the very best devices (iPhone 6S and). However, we will return to performance later.

The most interesting, or rather sad, thing is that OTG does not work here. More precisely, it works, but with a caveat. I was unable to connect external peripherals. I don’t have USB Type-C OTG flash drives, I connected regular ones via a Type-C adapter<->Micro USB, both through a simple one, for 50 cents, and through a proprietary one from Xiaomi. Nothing started. So, if you are planning to purchase a phone, immediately order a direct adapter from full-size USB to Type-C. Without any Micro USB.

The strange thing is that both of my adapters worked perfectly on other phones. I tried at one time on and on.

Everything is fine with navigation and compass. The built-in receiver finds satellites almost instantly, both GPS and Glonass systems.

Regarding the built-in NFC module. It always works correctly and is located on the rear panel. I tried it to work through the Wallet application. Using a card issued by one of the popular banks, purchases can be paid without problems.

Using the “My Travel Card” application, you can read, for example, a troika card and write purchased trips or simply amounts from an electronic wallet onto it. “Mipyat” also coped with this task perfectly.

Performance

Let's start with games, because in this context this is the most pressing moment.

Modern Combat 5 flies at top speeds. I don't know if higher frame rates can even exist.

FPS in “tanks” never dropped below 56 fps. The graphics were turned up to maximum.

In my opinion, one of the most problematic games is Unkilled and the maximum video settings. But here Mi5 did not disappoint. Even during action scenes, I didn’t notice any frame drops. Everything is fine.

Asphalt 8 runs smoothly at maximum settings. There are no drops in fps. However, the client himself became simply disgusting. Advertising that pops up endlessly completely ruins the whole experience and makes you want to tear the toy down as soon as possible.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas can also be played on ultra without any problems. Nothing slows down or lags.

Thus, Xiaomi Mi5 copes well with all modern 3D action games and gamers will definitely like it. It is unlikely that there is now a title that can demonstrate the difference in performance between the 32 GB flash memory and the extended version. In the future, such toys, of course, will appear, but again the difference will not be so critical.

From real use of built-in hardware resources to virtual ones, that is, to the results of system tests.

As you may have noticed, the graphs contain data from another Mi5, which significantly outperforms my copy in terms of points. This is exactly the modification with increased frequencies of the processor, graphics accelerator and memory. Thus, you can clearly see the difference in configurations.

Regarding the smoothness of the interface, I’ll put it briefly: everything flies at maximum speeds.

Photo capabilities

Personally, I had very high hopes for Mi5. A high-quality camera in a flagship smartphone and at an inexpensive price - you must agree, this is what everyone always wants. Still, not everyone has the opportunity to pay 50 kilo rubles for an S7, which may take better pictures than most point-and-shoot cameras, but costs as much as an entry-level DSLR with included lenses. And it will still remain on Redmi Note 2.

The description of the photo and video parts of the smartphone took a long time. At first there was no good weather to properly test the camera. Then I collected so much material that I decided to separate the camera test into a separate article. I want no one to have an erroneous opinion regarding the device and everyone to sensibly evaluate the capabilities of the Xiaomi Mi5 camera. Believe me, in practice it turned out that everything is very ambiguous.

You can read detailed material regarding the camera test.

Software shell

Considering that there are no Google services out of the box, everything will have to be installed manually. I found a set of “Google” utilities or otherwise GAPPS on the 4pda forum, in a thread discussing the firmware of our device. Everything installed without any problems, with the exception of contact managers. The built-in address book application did not want to take any of my contacts stored in Google. It was cured by forcibly deleting and reinstalling the Google Contacts Sync application. Every step I rebooted the device. Try this scheme if you encounter such a problem.

Since the device came to me from China (thanks to my friend Alexey!) it was created for this market. Accordingly, inside there is only Chinese software and three languages to choose from: regular Chinese, simplified and English.

I didn’t bother setting the localization curve. I limited myself to English, fortunately everything here is already clear. The only thing was that I had to give up the built-in keyboard with a numeric keypad and download a branded one from Google, with support for the Russian layout, from the Play Market.

Surprisingly, most of the Chinese software can be easily removed from the settings without resorting to installing root rights, unlocking the bootloader and other shamanistic things. Unexpected freedom from the manufacturer.

I didn't notice any serious lags. WhatsApp crashed once. Another time, the camera app suddenly died. The device itself advised me to reboot it, after which everything worked as normal.

I didn't catch any other glitches. After unpacking the device, he immediately announced the release of a new version (MIUI V7.2.8.0), and a day later another update arrived - V7.2.10.0. This is what I have been testing the device on all this time.

Let's go over some of the software features that caught our attention.

There was a children's mode in the settings. Its essence is to limit the available applications. There are no additional decorations with bears or fish here. Only allowed utilities and the ability to exit the mode remain on the main screen. Everything for tough Chinese children. And rightly so. Otherwise they got spoiled there!

In the Wi-Fi settings, you can choose which frequency to use: 2.4 or 5 GHz, or leave the automatic selection. The same can be done when setting up an access point. In other words, the device is capable of distributing the Internet at a frequency of 5 GHz.

I didn't like that there was no search by parameters.

Many shells have a search box that allows you to search by option name. But here it’s not there and you have to manually navigate through the menu to find what you need. So much for MIUI.

Sound quality

I left only one native application - the music player. It is, of course, designed for the Chinese market, and for online listening, but you can still play music from the built-in memory.

I like this application because it automatically pumps up artist covers in the background, and also colors the background in the palette of the predominant colors on the “cover”. It looks very cool.

The control that came to mind for me was the possibility of automatically or manually adding song lyrics. As a rule, the player independently, along with the cover, searches the Internet for the correct lyrics of the song. Very comfortably. However, sometimes song lyrics are not found or are added incorrectly. For example, the player did not find Limp Bizkit - Gold Cobra or Muse - Mercy and did not recognize it correctly.

Oh yes! The application identified a couple of songs as some kind of creation of some Chinese girl with a guitar. Although in fact it was AC/DC - Play Ball.

The playback quality is excellent. I didn’t notice anything unusual - everything was at the level of modern mobile devices.

It’s nice that in the parameters you can set sound profiles for specific, of course, branded headphones. And besides, you can reassign actions to the buttons of wired headsets yourself.

However, that's not all. There is also the opportunity to play with the playback settings through the built-in equalizer or select something from the installed presets.

Battery life

The device contains a battery with a capacity of 3,000 mAh. The minimum value can be considered 2910 mAh, but this is not so important.

The most important thing is that Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging is built in here. Let me remind you that even the latter did not receive version 3 of fast charging, but Xiaomi has it. According to the test results, it turned out that the device charges from zero to 100% in exactly one and a half hours. Of course, I used the supplied power supply (5V - 2.5A / 9V - 2A / 12V - 1.5A).

Under my operating conditions (constant synchronization, downloading heavy games and applications via Wi-Fi, all sorts of benchmarks and 3 hours of screen glow with auto brightness), the device lived until late at night. Perhaps this is a normal indicator. Neither a record nor a failure.

If you do about the same thing, but actively use the camera, the smartphone will sit down earlier - the display time will be around 2.5 hours.

With maximum brightness and high volume, the smartphone played 1080p video from Youtube for 4 hours 41 minutes.

Epic Citadel scrolled with the screen brightness turned up to the limit for 4 hours 05 minutes. Then the device turned off.

Where and how much to buy Xiaomi Mi5

The question directly concerns the conclusion regarding the device as a whole, so let’s move on to it smoothly. So, below are the official prices in the company’s online store:

  • The standard version of Xiaomi Mi5 costs 1999 Chinese yuan = approximately 21,000 rubles
  • the extended model (3 + 64 GB of memory) will cost 2299 yuan = 24,000 rubles
  • top modification Xiaomi Mi5 128 GB buy possible for 2699 yuan = 28,030 rubles

However, our fellow countryman can forget about these prices. Let's look at the ones I took from the Gearbest.com store. Why in it? Because this is where I ordered Xiaomi Mi5 for review. And besides, the prices here are some of the most affordable:

  • 3 + 32 GB costs $396.99 or 26,500 rubles
  • 3+ 64 GB will cost $439.99, which is equal to 29,500 rubles
  • 4 + 128 GB sells for $535.33 or 36,000 rubles

I think if you are seriously considering buying a Xiaomi Mi5, then you should pay attention to the 32- or 64-GB modification. And that's why.

Bottom line

The smartphone turned out to be very balanced. It is beautiful, stylish, perfectly assembled, and really high-quality and expensive materials were used in its creation. It's nice.

In addition, Xiaomi Mi5 is not just a bright blank. It will not disappoint with the filling either. Under the hood, the powerful QS820 is working at full speed, supported by a powerful video chip and fast memory, both built-in and RAM. No, and in the near future there will not be such a task that would be too tough for the Mi5.

In addition, even resellers sell the device at a very attractive price. Plus or minus twenty-five thousand rubles. Is this a lot for a largely uncompromising device? I think no.

And now about the black version with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. From the point of view of filling and performance, it is no different from the model for 30 thousand rubles. Its advantage is the expanded amount of built-in memory, which few people need in such quantity. Actually, like an additional gig of RAM.

Ceramic back cover? Seriously? Are you ready to overpay six thousand for the thought that your phone will have scratch-resistant ceramics? So Gorilla Glass 4 is also scratch-resistant. I bet you won't throw your smartphone in the toolbox with your wrenches and drills. Then what's the point? If you are looking for premium materials, value uncompromising quality and an extra five rubles is not money for you, then why are you even reading a review about some Chinese Mi5, either from Xiaomi or from Shaomi. The devil will break his leg. Buy a Galaxy S7 and get your dose of nirvana.

For everyone else, Mi5 will be a great find. 32 or 64 gig, black, white or maybe gold - it’s a matter of personal preference.

Release date: on sale now Price: $309

Xiaomi flagships are always long-awaited, because this is one of the few manufacturers that has been pleased with inexpensive flagship solutions for several years now. It's about Xiaomi Mi 5, which fans of the MI series have been waiting for so long. Well, the release of the new product will indeed please many, because it seems that Xiaomi MI 4 has just been released and has not yet lost its relevance. Let's see what the manufacturer will offer us this time.

New design

As expected, we again have a top solution that is a leader in terms of price and quality ratio. For just over three hundred dollars, the buyer receives a model built on the Snapdragon 820 platform in various configurations. But we should start with the design: Xiaomi Mi 5 will seem very familiar to anyone who has ever held a Xiaomi Mi Note in their hands. This is one of the few exceptions today, when the manufacturer actually did not copy anything from anyone, but created something original, with a branded, recognizable appearance.

In particular, the recognizable element here is the back surface with characteristic bevels along the edges. Even the camera eye and LED flash are in the same place, as is the volume rocker. The front surface of the new product is different, in particular the hardware button on the bottom, which houses the fingerprint scanner. Overall, from the front, Xiaomi MI 5 resembles a Meizu MX4 or MX5 phone. The new product can also be distinguished by its bottom edge, on which you can see the charging connector in the middle and the stereo speaker holes at the edges. Separately, it should be noted that the beveled edging of the front surface stands out with a metallic sheen. It is clear that the designers tried to emphasize this element. A total of three colors are available: white, gold and black.

Specifications

The smartphone is made on the same platform, but two options are available: with a processor frequency of 1.8 and 2.15 GHz. In addition, there are also two options for RAM: 3GB or 4GB. It is known that in the MI-series they try not to use microSD; instead, they offer three options with built-in memory: 32, 64 and 128 GB. The smartphone has support for two SIM cards and a classic set of all modern wireless interfaces. But the pride of the manufacturer is the main camera, or rather its optical stabilization. It uses an advanced sensor from Sony, the optical system of which is stabilized along four axes. It should also be noted that the smartphone runs on the new Android sixth version with the MIUI 7 shell, for which many people prefer Xiaomi.

A year and a half has passed since the release of Xiaomi’s previous compact flagship (Mi4), during which the Chinese made devices large and powerful, compact and inexpensive, but never returned to the theme of the most technologically advanced device in a compact form factor. And finally, this moment has come: the company introduced a new flagship with a 5.2" screen - Xiaomi Mi5.

Design, materials

The most important thing to start talking about the new flagship Xiaomi Mi5 is design. Smart people around the world have already joked about the manufacturer’s “Samsung disease” and compared the Mi5 with the Galaxy S6/S7 Edge many times. At the same time, unfortunately, today few people bother to look at least out of the corner of their eye somewhere beyond the news reports of the next couple of days to check the information and the accuracy of their thoughts. Otherwise, you wouldn't be reading anything like this right now. Yes, the new Xiaomi Mi5 really resembles the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, but not because the Chinese have once again copied someone (although they are practicing this), but because both smartphones use the idea of rounded edges of the body. At the same time, in terms of design, Xiaomi Mi5 is an almost complete copy of another smartphone from the company, Xiaomi Mi Note, presented in January 2015. Samsung's curved-edge device that the new Mi5 is being compared to, the Galaxy S6 Edge, was revealed in March 2015 at MWC, two months later. That's all I can say about the “copied from Samsung” design.

Personally, I like the design of the Xiaomi Mi5, although from a practical point of view, as in the case of the Mi Note, I think it will not be as convenient as plastic or metal smartphones. Simply due to the fact that glass gets dirty faster and is more likely to be damaged when the smartphone falls. And in Mi5, glass is used on both sides of the body. At the same time, the glass on the front side is flat, without the 2.5D effect, in my opinion, this is a drawback, yet volumetric glass makes the smartphone more impressive and beautiful, here I personally expected Xiaomi (like everyone else) to copy Apple’s idea. The glass on the reverse side is curved and looks impressive. There is a steel frame around the edges, just like in Xiaomi Mi Note.

You can also note the neat thin frame around the screen, however, this feature was already in the Xiaomi Mi4, so in this regard the Chinese simply did everything exactly as users expected from them.

Dimensions

The smartphone is equipped with a 5.15" diagonal screen, and at the presentation it was noted more than once that in all dimensions the device is comparable to five-inch smartphones, and this is true, judging by the size. The width of the smartphone is only 69.2 mm, for comparison, Xiaomi Mi4 has a width of 68.5 mm, that is, according to one of the main parameters that determines the ease of grip of a smartphone, the new Mi5 is certainly good. The width of the Samsung Galaxy S7 is 69.6 mm, which means that with the release of Xiaomi Mi5 on sale we will get one of the new leaders in size and ease of grip among five-inch devices.

Screen

The smartphone uses an IPS matrix with a 5.15" diagonal and a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. Personally, I’m glad that Xiaomi didn’t install a matrix with a huge resolution in the new flagship; for most eyes it’s still invisible, but the combination of FullHD and the new top-end Snapdragon 820 platform will clearly be more advantageous than any combination of the same chipset with a higher resolution screen . Simply put, the Xiaomi Mi5 should have a very good performance reserve for several years to come.

Control

In Mi5, the company departs from its usual scheme of three touch keys under the screen, placing a hardware key in the center with a fingerprint scanner embedded in it. A similar system is used in Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Meizu, but I can’t say yet how exactly it is implemented in Mi5. Here, at a minimum, there is a hardware key press and the scanner operates, but I don’t know whether there is a touch area inscribed in the button, you need to look.

Fans of the company, judging by the first comments and reviews, took this decision ambiguously, but personally, I’m glad that Xiaomi switched to a hardware key.

Cameras

We'll talk about the cameras in detail in a detailed review of the device; I hope to get it in the near future after the start of sales. In the meantime, about the camera parameters. The main camera module has a resolution of 16 MP, f/2.0, there is optical stabilization in four directions and phase autofocus (that is, usual for smartphones). I don’t know how it will shoot, but Xiaomi Mi4 and Xiaomi Mi Note were among the best Chinese smartphones in terms of cameras at the time of their release, I hope Mi5 will not let you down in this regard.

The front camera resolution is 4 MP, it uses a module with 2µm ultrapixels, and the aperture value is the same as for the main camera - f/2.0. Most likely, Mi5 installed exactly the same module as was installed in Mi Note.

Interface

The device runs on Android 6.0. with the familiar MIUI 7 system, I have already written about it several times, so I have nothing to add yet. New Xiaomi smartphones have a locked bootloader, and for many old fans of the brand this is bad news; Xiaomi Mi5 will most likely be no exception.

Platform

The smartphone is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, and then the details begin. The fact is that the Chinese made three versions of the device with different parameters.

Xiaomi Mi5 (black, white, gold colors) is built on Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 with a core frequency of 1.8 GHz, the frequency of the graphics subsystem cores (Adreno 530) is 510 MHz. The device uses 3 GB of dual-channel LPDDR4 RAM operating at 1333 MHz and 32 GB of built-in UFS2.0 flash memory.

Xiaomi Mi5 High (black, white, gold colors) is built on Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 with a core frequency of 2.15 GHz, the frequency of the graphics subsystem cores (Adreno 530) is 624 MHz. The device uses 3 GB of dual-channel LPDDR4 RAM operating at 1866 MHz and 64 GB of built-in UFS2.0 flash memory.

Xiaomi Mi5 Ceramic Edition (black) is built on Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 with a core frequency of 2.15 GHz, the frequency of the graphics subsystem cores (Adreno 530) is 624 MHz. The device uses 4 GB of dual-channel LPDDR4 RAM operating at 1866 MHz and 128 GB of built-in UFS2.0 flash memory.

All the names given above are approximate, so far the versions are only available on the Chinese site, and I’m not good at it. The smartphone does not support memory cards, and this is a serious disadvantage, in my opinion. Personally, 32 GB of internal memory has ceased to be enough for me for a year now, so in my case, a version with this volume is immediately out of the question; I am forced to look at at least a 64 GB device if I decide to buy it, and preferably 128 GB.

The second drawback is the splitting of the flagship into three versions. This is bad for several reasons. First, there is confusion about which model is better, which is worse, what is the difference. Second, the idea itself is simply meaningless. The company takes the top chipset and the fastest memory, puts them on a device with a screen resolution that is undemanding by modern standards (FullHD) and for some reason makes advanced, supposedly even more productive versions. For what? Who will see the difference in memory frequency on a smartphone or the difference in the frequency of processor and GPU cores, except Antutu?

Battery

The smartphone uses a non-removable battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh. For modern flagships, this is a familiar battery; I’ll see how the smartphone performs in real conditions.

Conclusion

The start of sales of Xiaomi Mi5 is scheduled for March 1st, first, as usual, in waves through the official online store mi.com, and after some time it will appear at resellers. The cost of the simplest 32 GB version is 2,000 yuan (~ 23,000 rubles), the 64 GB version with an overclocked processor will cost 2,300 yuan (~ 27,000 rubles), and the fastest version with 128 GB of memory is 2,700 yuan ( 32,000 rubles). For the money, the device is undoubtedly excellent. Even the lack of a slot for a memory card, impractical glass and a curved body, due to which the device will slide off the table and other surfaces (like Xiaomi MI Note, I wrote about this), will not spoil the impression of the company’s new flagship. Xiaomi remained true to themselves and, albeit six months late, still released a device with top-end characteristics, maintaining relatively compact dimensions and a screen close to five inches.

In the first month after the start of sales, Xiaomi Mi5 will cost, I would venture to guess, on average 6,000 - 10,000 rubles more than the prices I indicated above, that is, approximately 30,000 - 33,000 rubles for the younger version, 35,000 - 37,000 rubles for the 64 GB version and more than 40,000 rubles for the top version, so in my opinion, there is no point in buying a device in the first month. It’s easier to wait until the price drops or there is an opportunity to buy it on the official website, and only then consider the device as a purchase.

P.S. Xiaomi brought two precious samples of Mi5 to the exhibition in Barcelona for several hundred journalists (if not thousands) - a nice approach for a “world announcement”!

Xiaomi Mi5s smartphone - review

Xiaomi smartphones are usually very popular - mainly because of the very high quality hardware. With firmware, things are much worse for them: often for some new model the official international firmware is not released for a long time, so users are either content with Chinese firmware with English support, which they tweak with a file, or they install all sorts of custom firmware, which are almost certainly fraught with various glitches. I reviewed the smartphone. That’s exactly how it was: good hardware and the crooked firmware. I jumped around a little and in the end installed some custom MIUI in it, with which it lived quite well. The new Xiaomi Mi5 model, which was highly anticipated, never reached me, but now they sent the latest model from Gearbest Xiaomi Mi5s, which has just appeared. Moreover, on the store’s website it is separately noted that the International Edition MIUI 8 is installed here, that is, the official international firmware MIUI 8, which means that the smartphone should support the Russian interface without any problems and there shouldn’t be any glitches. Well, let’s figure it out , what this model and firmware are, especially since I have not yet seen Russian detailed reviews of this smartphone, there are only preliminary reviews based on the results of presentations.

Price: on Gearbest $319 (about 20 thousand rubles) Well, the characteristics are advanced, there is no trace of memory card support traditionally for the Mi series, we’ll see how it all works. Contents of delivery A dazzling white box in the style of “We also want to be like Apple”, on which two letters are pressed - Mi. Inside everything is very simple, but neat.
The kit is in the style of “Only cheap smartphones come with all sorts of accessories,” so here is a power adapter with a Chinese plug and a USB-microUSB cable. They didn’t even include an adapter for a European socket, although the supply was like European. A trifle, but unpleasant. Smartphones costing $100-150 always include these. And an OTG cable. And a little case. And protective film. Well, because they’re cheap, what can you take from them!
The adapter supports three charging options.

Appearance and features White plastic, rounded 2.5D protective glass, touch-sensitive Home button, which is also a fingerprint scanner. The body is made of aluminum alloy, the left and right ends are noticeably rounded. What does all this remind me of? But here's what - . Just like twins. Only OnePlus 3 is bigger. Look - OnePlus 3 on the right.

Similar? Very similar! The bottom end has a USB-C output, holes under which the speaker is hidden, two decorative screws.
Here's OnePlus 3.
The left side is a slot for two nanoSIMs.
The top end is the audio output.
The right side is the volume rocker, power button. Their pressure is quite distinct.
Well, here is this smartphone next to Honor 8 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.
The materials and workmanship are excellent, the smartphone makes a good impression. But the similarity to OnePlus 3 is confusing - I’m really interested in who is who and who has whom. The touch buttons “Return” and “Running applications” are not marked, they are backlit in the form of a dot that lights up for 4 seconds during use. (This is configurable.) The “Home” button is touch sensitive; when touched, it responds with a vibration response, simulating a press. Display Display on an IPS matrix, made using OGS technology. Covered with protective tempered glass with rounded edges. It has an anti-glare filter and an oleophobic coating. The image quality is very good: the colors are bright and saturated, the contrast is at a good level. The brightness margin is quite sufficient. In direct sunlight, the image is clearly visible. Good viewing angles; with strong deviations, the contrast drops slightly. Device operation As I already said, Gearbest claims that the official international firmware MIUI 8 is installed here, about which there is even a corresponding inscription in the header of the page of this phone on the store’s website. And indeed, at first glance, the firmware looks like this: all Google services are in place, the Russian interface is practically without jambs. However, if you go to the official website of the MIUI developer, it is easy to see that the Global Stable firmware for Mi5s does not yet exist in nature. Only China Stable, that is, Chinese firmware.

So what kind of firmware is installed here? Some kind of custom: either from multirom, or from xiaomi.eu, which make firmware based on MIUI. And the unpleasant thing is that this firmware persistently works under MIUI Global Stable 8.0 (as it is written in the MIUI version of the smartphone), but such firmware does not yet exist in nature, as the developer himself claims. However, in the abbreviation MAGCNDH in brackets next to the version number, the letters CN just mean “China”, that is, this is Chinese stable firmware, modified by craftsmen.

It will appear, of course, because it exists for Mi5, but now it doesn’t exist. The question arises: why worry about the fact that this is custom and not the official international one, if everything is in order with the firmware and everything works stably with it? So the problem is that there are some minor problems with stability, and I will write about this in detail below. Main desktop.

Second desktop.

Applications in the Tools folder.

Lock window.

It also comes with an audio playback widget.

Quick switches scroll only horizontally - this is not very convenient. However, this is installed by default, and in the notification settings you can separate the notification window and quick toggles - then the quick toggles will be in a separate window.

Phone application Incoming call.

Talk mode.

The quality of telephone communication is good, noise reduction works quite effectively. Wi-Fi transmission speed is close to maximum.

Mobile Internet reception is even better than expected for these conditions. Transmission is normal speed.

Audio The sound of the built-in speaker is decent. Not as “flat” as usual, but still slightly dull. At full volume there is no rattle, the volume margin is normal.

Sennheiser CX 2.00G in-ear headphones are good: the sound is clear, detailed, good highs and even some bass.

Full-size headphones Audio-Technica ATH-M50x - very good: the sound is spacious, clear, detailed, deep bass, clear highs. Determining coordinates It starts very quickly (a couple of seconds), detects GPS and GLONASS satellites. It holds the road well, there were no problems with the navigation programs.

Games The platform is powerful, any games run smoothly at maximum quality settings. Asphalt 8 runs very smoothly, FPS stays at 30.
Tanks - almost all the time 59-60 FPS, that is, the maximum.
Epic Citadel performance test - also FPS at maximum.
Settings There are many interesting possibilities in the settings.

You can adjust the font size, turn on reading mode, and turn on the screen by double-tapping (which, by the way, did not always work the first time).

Themes. By the way, there are a great variety of free themes available - for every taste.

You can create a separate data space for a second user.

Of the 64 GB, almost 58 GB are free for the user.

Child mode is a useful feature for some users.

Setting up the indicator.

There is an equalizer adjustment for different types of headphones, but I would not say that this leads to a good effect: for me, the sound is better without an equalizer.

This is what I really like - customizing the location of the navigation keys and various actions when pressed and long pressed.

Adjusting the backlight of the keys.

One-handed operation, and you can “tailor” it to three display sizes.

Enable dual mode for selected applications. This is when two copies of an application are stored with different settings. For example, if you need to work with Facebook with two different accounts, you can enable this here.

You can password protect individual applications.

Setting up a fingerprint.

Camera Simple interface.

Shooting modes. The second window shows night mode.

Camera settings called up using the "Menu" button.

Examples of photos. (All are clickable and open in full size.) Daylighting in the room.

Evening, at sunset. 500 ISO.

In the dark, it resolutely sets ISO 6400 and at the same time blurs out the noise. But the result is not that much pornography.
Here's a 1:1 crop.
And if you turn off the noise reduction mode (there is such a thing in the settings), then it turns out something like this.

What can I say about the camera? The camera is decent for the price of the smartphone. Detail and dynamic range are good, white balance is determined more or less accurately and hardly fluctuates, exposure is determined normally, autofocus, although far from being as “tenacious” as competitors’ flagships, there are few defects there. Focusing does not work well in difficult lighting conditions (it happens that it simply cannot focus even on a dimly lit object), the quality of images in poor lighting conditions is much below average, but not terrible. It shoots video well, and when shooting video, the stabilizer clearly works and improves the quality of the video. The camera is noticeably better, but it still costs one and a half times more. So, in general, the camera is normal for a smartphone of this price, in my opinion. System data and performance CPU-Z data.

Performance rating according to AnTuTu. Top ten fastest smartphones. Moreover, it even seems to overtake OnePlus 3, which did not hold the championship of the fastest for long. However, it is clear that now smartphones from the top twenty AnTuTu are all very fast.

Indexes according to Geekbench 3.

Well, the overall score according to PCMark. But OnePlus 3 has 7003!

Battery life Battery 3100 mAh. However, I had problems with the tests here. I was unable to run either the web browsing test or the PCMark synthetic test. Why? Because when I tried to set “Never” to turn off the screen in the settings (there is such a thing), the smartphone gave me an error and did not set this mode. Well, no problem, I can install a program that will not allow you to turn off the screen (in fact, I usually use these when testing the Internet for battery drain). But no, none of these programs worked. More precisely, it worked, but the screen still turned off. Well, the PCMark test turned out strange. It just froze at some point, while the smartphone was actively consuming energy, and then at some point it declared that it was low and suggested turning on the power saving mode. Therefore, I really only tested the video viewing mode. Video. Wireless communications are disabled, the player's brightness is set to a comfortable level of 10 (15 in total), and the MK Player plays a video series in a loop. And here it turned out to be as much as 18 hours and 15 minutes! (OnePlus 3 has a similar duration - 17 hours 35 minutes.) So we can assume that the Internet here will last about 10 hours 30 minutes, and PCMark would give about nine-odd hours - similar to OnePlus 3. Purely with a mixed load, the smartphone confidently lasted for about a day and a half. When fast charging, the smartphone consumed about 2 A, so a full charge from zero lasted about an hour and forty-five minutes.

Observations at work I have already written about small glitches associated with this custom firmware: the “Never” mode of turning off the screen was not set, the program for blocking the screen off did not work, the PCMark program froze when testing battery life (this is the first time I’ve seen this).More One slight sadness is that OTG does not work in this firmware. Although the device itself, judging by the specifications, supports OTG. To understand what other problems there might be with this firmware, I was not lazy, installed my usual programs and ran them. Fortunately, they all worked fine, I didn't notice any other glitches.

Regarding heating, because the platform is powerful - even when running heavy 3D games, almost no heating was observed. Literally once I noticed a slight heating in a situation where I was loading a bunch of programs and data for them in a row. Slight heating was also noticeable when playing high-resolution videos. The fingerprint scanner worked correctly and crashes were rare. By the way, interestingly, the scanner also worked fine on wet fingers. He fooled around with the dirty ones, but worked with the wet ones. Later I read that this is a new type of scanner and water is not a hindrance to it, which is valuable. Using the touch-sensitive Home button, which signals when pressed by vibration, turned out to be quite convenient. You get used to it quickly, and then when you return to the physical button, like, for example, on the Samsung Galaxy S7, it seems that the physical button is less convenient. What is the result? In terms of hardware and characteristics, the smartphone is excellent. The only pity is that there is no official international firmware for it yet, but it will probably appear soon. The existing custom firmware that is installed in Gearbest is very decent (and sometimes they are just wild), but it has some glitches, which, however, are normal they don’t interfere with work. Well, I think that with the official firmware the smartphone will be one of the best in its class. It's very similar, only that one costs $470 on Gearbest, and this one costs $319.

Mi 5 is a continuation of the very first line of smartphones from Xiaomi and today we will talk about the technologies that are used in it, we will show in detail all the characteristics of the smartphone, which is the company’s flagship model.

At the moment, there is a significant acceleration in the operation of the smartphone from the previous version, for example, according to the developer, the speed of the processor has increased by 2 times, the speed of flash memory has increased by 87%, and a higher-quality camera with additional stabilization has been installed.

This is not counting the improvement in other areas, which are sometimes not immediately clear to the user, but are felt during work. One of the interesting implementations was support for 4K display, which creates a very beautiful look.

Improved multitasking, which, by the way, is a very important factor for a smartphone, since as a rule, a number of background tasks are always running and can eat up resources. Xiaomi has created a truly great phone, but let's take a detailed look at the specifications of the smartphone.
