Installing custom recovery for xiaomi mi max. Methods to reboot Android. Installing TWRP Recovery

Xiaomi phones have excellent support from the manufacturer and constantly receive new updates. But it is not always possible to update via "Three dots". And here is the perfect solution - flashing using TWRP. Unfortunately, not all users know how to flash Xiaomi via Recovery correctly and quickly. We'll talk about this today.

What is needed for firmware

There is a similar option -, but if this method does not suit you, you can safely try recovery. Alas, it is no longer possible to carry out this procedure through a stock software project, Only a third-party utility will do. Find out how to install it

Next we need the firmware itself. Be sure to download it specifically for your device and only from the official MIUI website! And, of course, you cannot do without access to a computer. It is best to use a factory USB cable.

Step 1: download the firmware for your model for Recovery

The beginning of the procedure is to select the correct firmware for the phone. You can choose either (for not yet available, find out when Global Stable MIUI 10 comes out), or. In this case, give preference to good beta firmware.

You must download the assembly as an archive in the format .zip. After successful downloading, place it in any folder on your computer.

Step 2: Connect to PC and put the file in the root of the phone

Now connect to the smartphone by connecting a cable and transfer the saved archive to the memory of the mobile device.

note that It's better not to use internal storage, since complete wipes are almost always carried out before flashing the firmware. Yes, it saves the situation, but not with the update file.

So place the firmware, for example, on, but in the root itself, without using additional folders.

Step 3: install the modified Recovery

And the most important point, without which the whole procedure will fail - Availability of custom recovery on the mobile device. You can find detailed instructions on this topic, but for now, read the condensed points below:

  1. You can use a special utility that, after installation, will provide you with a full-fledged third-party project. The best application - Unfortunately, its functionality is impossible without root rights, but as a “Superuser” you can easily get Recovery mode on your Xiaomi phone.
  2. The second method is much more complicated and is suitable for experienced users who are confident in their technical knowledge and skills. The operation is carried out through Fastboot.
  3. You will need special drivers, an unlocked bootloader and a recovery file taken from the official website.

    Step 4: Enter Recovery Mode and Install Firmware

    Let's return to installing the firmware via Recovery. As soon as the above points are completed, we launch this mode on the smartphone. For this:

    1. Turn off the smartphone.
    2. We wait a minute for it to lie down in the off state.
    3. Press and hold the volume rocker up and the power button.

    After a few seconds, a vibration is heard and a corresponding message appears. If the word “Recovery” appears on the screen, it means we have successfully entered the menu. Next we see a black screen and eight sections.

    Be sure to reset the data without touching onlySD-storage andOTG. Click on the second cell from the right " Wipe" (cleaning) and " Advanced Wipe" Check the following files:

  • Dalvik Cache;
  • System;
  • Data;
  • Internal Storage.

Now go back to the root menu and click « Reboot recovery» (reboot TWRP). Next click "Install" And select the firmware file. The update begins. This process will be displayed on the screen in the form of a creeping line and inscriptions, all you have to do is wait.

When all system processes stop, this will indicate the completion of the flashing. After that, click "Wipe cache/davlik". And reboot the entire operating system using the command "Reboot system". So we updated via Mi Recovery Mode.

You can tell that the firmware has been successfully installed by the ellipses that will flash when you first start the phone. Something went wrong? Then check out our next point.

Note! It is better to initially install the latest version of the project. A good option is Mi Recovery 3.0. But outdated utilities may conflict with new software.

The method was tried on Xiaomi Mi 5, Redmi 4X and Redmi 5 Plus, everything worked the first time.

Possible problems and their solutions

Now let's figure out what could be causing the problems that have arisen. Below you will find a list of the most common problems:

  • Error 7: incorrectly selected firmware. For example, if you are the owner of a Redmi Note 3 phone, the assembly designed for Redmi Note 3 Pro is absolutely not suitable for you. Also, the shell may not install due to a damaged file.
  • Error 255: wrong selected file updater-binary. Just replace this element after disabling the antivirus.
  • The computer does not see the phone when it is in Recovery mode: Perhaps there are not enough special drivers, which we wrote about in the article about TWRP. There could also be a rather trivial reason: dirty USB connectors or a broken cable.
  • Error 0: the file where the firmware is stored does not contain enough necessary materials. Most often they are removed by antivirus, and especially if you download a custom version. Try disabling it for a while or adding firmware files to exceptions (the entire folder). Change the permission to Unix.

    Where to save backups before wipes if the entire device is wiped?

    You can transfer them to an external drive like a flash drive or move them to your computer. There is no point in keeping backup copies in your smartphone before flashing the firmware, as they will be erased.

    As we see, installing firmware via Recovery on a Xiaomi phone is quite simple, The main thing is to carefully follow the instructions and download files only from trusted sources.

There are many reasons why you have to do a Hard Reset on Xiaomi: the smartphone needs to be cleaned before selling, Android has started to slow down, or you have forgotten the password or graphic lock. In any of these situations, resetting the settings will help.

When performing a Hard Reset, the internal memory of the phone is cleared, that is, linked accounts, contacts, settings, games and applications are deleted. Files located on the SD card, such as photos, videos, downloaded tracks, will remain intact. If the SD card was used as internal memory (this option is available in many firmwares, starting with Android 6.0 Marshmallow), it will be cleared. So don't forget to back up so you don't lose important data!

Standard way to reset Xiaomi settings

1. Go to “Settings” and in the “System and device” section, select “Advanced settings”.

2. Open the “Backup and Reset” item.

3. At the very bottom, select “Reset settings”.

4. Click on the “Reset settings” button.

5. If a pattern or password is installed, you need to enter it.

6. Then the system will warn you twice that the data will be deleted. If you agree, click “Next” and “OK”.

How to reset Android settings on Xiaomi via Recovery

Every smartphone or tablet has a recovery mode - Recovery Mode. To get into it on Xiaomi, turn off the device, then press and hold the following key combination until the Mi logo appears:

  • “ON” + volume up

Wait for the Xiaomi engineering menu to load and change the language to English by clicking on the button as shown in the photo.

1. Select “recovery” from the menu.

2. Answer “OK” to the prompt that appears.

Xiaomi will reboot into Recovery. Use Volume keys to move and "ON" to confirm.

3. Go down and select "Wipe Data".

5. And then “Confirm”.

Resetting the settings (along with it the pattern will be deleted) will take some time - at the end you will see the inscription “Data wiped Successfully”. Click "Back to Main Menu".

To boot the system, you must select “Reboot” in Mi Recovery.

And after “Reboot to System”.

Hard Reset via Google's Find My Device service

If you previously logged into your Google account on your Xiaomi phone or tablet, you can remotely reset the settings using the Find My Device service. To do this, go to https://www.google.com/android/find and log in.

A search will begin for devices associated with this account. Upon completion of the process, options will become available, among which the interesting option is “Erase data”. Click on it.

Then confirm again by clicking on the “Erase data” button.

And finally agree by selecting “Clear”.

At the end, a notification “Your device has been erased” will appear and the reset will begin. If the device is offline, Hard Reset will be performed the first time you connect to the Network.

Making a Hard Reset on Xiaomi using Mi PC Suite

Owners of Xiaomi phones that open the firmware mode instead of Recovery must use the Chinese version of the Mi PC Suite utility to reset the settings (of course, the pattern or password) (not every device recognizes the English version).

Download the file from Yandex.Disk via the link to your computer, run it and complete the installation, agreeing to all requests.

Switch your smartphone to firmware mode by holding down the power and volume up buttons. On your PC, launch the Chinese version of Mi PC Suite.

During the flashing process, all important information will be deleted, so save it in .

Make sure that the battery is charged at least 75%. Important!

If you want to flash the update (Incremental ROM pack), first erase all information in Recovery mode. If you want to rollback, that is, install an earlier version, you need to download the full assembly (MIUI full ROM pack). Due to differences in the recovery mode interface, this method is not entirely suitable for some Redmi series smartphones with MediaTek processors, as well as devices with a locked bootloader.

Visit the official MIUI resource, select your model and download the latest or current firmware version for you. Change the name of the file you downloaded to “update.zip”.

Step 2.

Connect your device to your computer or laptop using the included USB cable. Copy or move the downloaded firmware to the internal memory of the device. It is important not to place it in a folder, let it be in the root directory.

Go to recovery mode on your device in any way convenient for you:

  1. Open the “Updater” application, click on the icon in the upper right corner as shown in the picture and select “Reboot to Recovery mode” and enter it.
  2. Turn off your device completely by holding down the power button and selecting the appropriate option, then simultaneously hold down the power button and the volume “+” button, and then hold it for a while and enter Recovery.
  3. Some applications, like ROM Toolbox, allow you to reboot and enter various modes, including recovery mode.

Step 4: Xiaomi firmware

While in recovery mode, use the +\- keys to toggle up/down and the power button to confirm.

After logging into Recovery, select a convenient interface language, then click on “Install update.zip to System One” and confirm the action. The device will start updating automatically, and when everything is completed, you will only need to select “Reboot to System One” and wait for the operating system to load.

Sooner or later, we all want something new and interesting, even if it concerns the firmware for a smartphone. Now it’s time to replace the standard, long-tired picture with something more original. But smartphone owners are interested in the question of how to install TWRP Recovery on Xiaomi. The fact is that many users on “You” communicate with various applications, and changing the firmware for them is something of a feat.

Here's some advice for you - before thinking about the firmware, it won't hurt to make changes to the recovery. Many forums advise paying attention to TWRP, pointing out that TWRP has one distinctive feature - stable and convenient operation. Moreover, there is the opportunity to work with touch controls, which is very beneficial. In general, we will figure out how to install TWRP on Xiaomi.

To use this method you must have root rights. Since we are considering Xiaomi, advanced users already have rights here; all that remains is to transfer them to the application. If there are no rights, then you need to get them, and only then install recovery.

Further instructions are as follows:

  1. Go to Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager&hl=ru) and find a suitable application there;
  2. Install it and run it;
  3. When the application is installed, you must agree with everything that the application offers, give it root access, etc.;
  4. Select your device and download the Xiaomi TWRP file by clicking on "Download TWRP";
  5. Next, select the downloaded img file and use the key "flash to recovery" install it.

After the program is installed, the mode will turn on reboot to recovery mode, that is, reboot. But after this, all manipulations can be carried out from this menu without completely changing the system. And whoever is afraid that the stock firmware will crash, then if it works correctly, this will not happen.

Installing Mi Recovery via fastboot

The second way to enter Recovery is not so simple, but with sufficient concentration and care, an ordinary user who decides to dig a little deeper than the standard smartphone settings can also master it. The only thing that really won't hurt here is the skills to use the console and ADB.

Disabling driver signature verification

For Windows 8

  1. Press the button combination "Win+I". They'll come out on the right "Options".
  2. Clamp "Shift" and press .
  3. After rebooting, a window will appear "Select action". Choose "Diagnostics" -> "Extra options" -> "Boot Options" -> "Reboot".

After reboot we will see the window “ Reboot options" press "F7" and wait for Windows to reboot.

For Windows 7

When turning on the computer, after the BIOS boot stage, frequently press "F8". A menu will appear "More download options". Choose "Disable mandatory driver signing".

P.S: F8 does not always work the first time, so if it doesn’t work, you can either repeat it 2-3 times, or resort to an alternative method.

Process description

  1. At the first stage, you need to download and install the drivers, download and unpack them. It is very important that the file path is not in Chinese. You can only use Latin characters, otherwise the system will generate an error.
  2. The second step is to enable USB debugging. This is the simplest procedure. It consists of the following manipulations: on your Xiaomi phone you need to open the item "About the phone". When you have found the desired menu, click on the MIUI version eight times (sometimes seven is enough). After clicking, a message will appear "You are a developer". In the settings menu, a sub-item “for developers” will appear and in it select “USB debugging”. If there is nothing, it means you do not have access rights or already have them.
  3. In the third step, login and run command.bat from the ADB folder. Next we specify the command "adb devices", but checking if the smartphone is connected. If the phone does not respond, it means something is wrong, so it is better to make the connection again.
  4. If the connection is established, launch Fastboot Mode by running the command "adb reboot bootloader". Once this is done, the smartphone automatically reboots and enters bootloader mode. When it ends, you can install custom recovery.
  5. Since we don’t have the recovery itself, in this case I use recovery files that are available on the Internet, download them from forums, etc. For example, you can find Mi Recovery 3 using this link. You need to save the recovery in the folder with adb and name it TWRP.img
  6. And using the installation is generally very simple, since its entire essence comes down to one simple command "fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img".

In fact, that’s where it all ends, although in order to make sure that the device is working properly, you need to enter the TVRP mode from the device. Getting started is quite simple. To do this, you should perform the following manipulations:

  • Press and hold the power and volume buttons in the “down” position;
  • We wait for the vibration signal and immediately release;
  • We are waiting for the utility that we just installed to start.

If everything is fine, you can proceed to the system, and if your goal is to install the firmware, then continue working.

Problems

Of course, not everyone can carry out these manipulations, but an average user should still figure out how to work in recovery mode.

If the smartphone simply does not enter this mode, regardless of which options you use, then in this case you can look for alternative options on how to enter the desired mode. But we strongly advise against using untested methods, because this can cause the complete collapse of your smartphone. It is much safer to entrust this matter to a professional, preferably one who has already dealt with Xiaomi smartphones.

The main reason that the user cannot enter recovery is a conflict between the utility code and the firmware. The solution to this problem is simple - you can reinstall the recovery itself. But this is just a temporary solution, and then you will have to look for another way to enter the system menu of interest.
