Hi all! Here i.e. The figure shows a cable TV decoder. Many people will probably think this is a joke and I'm crazy. But this is not so - this is really the simplest decoder. The decoder is assembled using a simple high-frequency filter circuit. Okay, let's not go deep into theory. If you have any questions, please call or write. And now I’ll tell you how to assemble this miracle that allows you to watch cable TV for FREE. The coil is wound on a rod with a diameter of 5 mm with a 0.5 mm wire, after which the rod is removed. I almost forgot: the number of turns is approximately 17 (I recommend experimenting with the number of turns). And one more detail is a tuning capacitor 5...25 pF. And now I’ll explain how to use this contraption. So it’s like this: pick up your cable and wait for them to start encoding. As soon as you have started this encoding, you take and SMOOTHLY tighten the capacitor until you get a stable picture. Then sit on the sofa and watch a movie! OK it's all over Now! Set-top boxes with DVB C are in increasing demand among buyers. In this article we will tell you what these devices are and talk about the technology itself.

Modern technologies are moving forward at incredible speed. For many years now, a set-top box based on DVB C technology has been on sale, and it is in particular demand among buyers.

Today, a receiver in this category can be called the most popular on the market. The main thing is that a receiver with modern DVB C has a high quality of the output picture. The broadcast takes place in digital format, and this is the main advantage that models in this category have.

If you are interested in the DVB C standard, a modern set-top box for your TV will help you convert the analog format to digital. This is especially true for the latest, most advanced models that need a high-quality signal for full operation. Digital broadcasting will allow you to get rid of ripples and blurred images.

A cable receiver using DVB C only works with a wired connection. That is, you will need to call a technician from the TV operator to lay the cord into your apartment. This imposes some restrictions, because the receiver will simply be useless in houses where there is no company.

First, let's look at some of the pros and cons that a TV set-top box using dvb c has.

As you can see, the disadvantages of the standard are not so obvious, and they can be completely avoided. That is, the receiver will be able to provide a full digital TV connection in an ordinary city apartment. Cable digital receivers according to the dvb c standard do not cost such a large amount, but their usefulness for the owner is beyond doubt.

Who is the best person to buy a decoder with dvb c technology? First of all, it will be of interest to those people who already have cable TV at home, but it works in analog format. If you want to convert it to digital form using dvb c, then the receiver will help you cope with this task and get the best signal quality.

By the way, companies themselves often offer a decoder for their clients. You can purchase equipment from them at a big discount, or at least under the most attractive conditions. The company itself will offer to connect a decoder and digital TV for viewing.

A few more words about decoders and the setup process

Please note that a digital set-top box made using DVB C is not compatible with other signal receiving formats. The decoder was developed exclusively for connecting a TV via cable.

The modern cable DVB C tuner is not suitable for use with satellite dishes or antennas. There is separate equipment for them, based on other standards. The decoder “understands” only the signal that is supplied from the cable to a special connector. The connector is located on the rear panel, the receiver is connected to the cable directly, and only then transmits the prepared signal for playback via a second connection.

If you bought a digital cable receiver that runs on DVB C, you will need to ask your operator to switch you to digital broadcasting rates.

To begin with, a digital standard TV set-top box with DVB C is connected to the network and the TV, and only then the setup is carried out. Some TV models have a DVB C connector and their own decoding module. In this case, you do not need to buy an additional decryption tool, but simply purchase a special card from the operator and insert it into the slot.

On average, a tuner that supports the popular DVB C can show about 100-150 channels. Receivers are incapable of significantly increasing the number of resources on the available 7-10 transmission frequencies, so the setup will only allow you to find a certain number of channels from the TV operator itself.

If you have plugged the cable into the socket on your DVB C device and connected the decoder to your TV, the setup will not cause any problems.

  • First, go to the device menu, select something like channel settings. In different models, this item may be designated differently.
  • Now select automatic search and turn it on.
  • The device itself finds all the channels that the equipment provides.
  • Once the search is complete, the setup is complete.

About other technologies in the family

But dvb c is used not only for digital broadcasting, there is dvb t, it does not require a cable connection. Typically, manufacturers put the receiver in the device itself, and it does not require additional receivers. But if the model is not equipped with such a “bonus”, then to access dvb from t2 you will need a tuner. To connect a digital tuner made via dvb t2 c, you will need:

  • Any antenna.
  • Card from the operator.
  • Subscription to services.

A receiver made with dvb s2 is already used for satellite signal transmission. The receiver connects to the satellite dish for reception via a cable connector and performs decryption using a card from the company. Using dvb s2, you can use the receiver even far from civilization, because satellite coverage is present on almost 90 percent of the country.

Or a stand-alone application that converts a file or information stream from a view to a view that other software supports. For example, the in_mp3.dll library in the Winamp program, which is an MP3 format decoder.

Accelerating scientific and technological progress often confronts us not only with a choice, but rather with the need to comply with its dynamics. Regularly shown television advertisements with ultra-clear, ultra-colorful images patiently convince us to use digital television. However, the decisive incentive for the gradual transition in 2015-2020 in Russia and Ukraine to “digital” - Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) - will be the gradual cessation of licensing of analogue TV channels against the backdrop of stimulating the development of digital ones. In Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod, separate pilot projects of the Ministry of Communications and the Ministry of Press, Television and Radio Broadcasting and Mass Communications are already being developed. Based on them, standards and regulatory documents regulating the reception of digital television will be developed.

Experts say that the factor slowing down this transition is the absolute predominance of old television receivers among the population that do not receive the DVB signal. However, the situation is reversible: such TVs can still be “made to see numbers.” A decoder for digital television was invented especially for this - a device that converts input DVB into high-quality analogue.

Its price is limited to 40-50 US dollars. The benefits are obvious! At minimal cost, my old TV and I say: “Hello, digital TV!” By the way, a decoder for digital television has another, more correct name - a receiver. The external receiver fits almost any analog TV receiver. It is compact, has a convenient, optimized interface. It is characterized by some original functions, for example, a delayed time mode, which involves stopping the broadcast of a TV show and then starting it from this point. The receiver is adapted to interactive program guides. It has USB capabilities that allow you to interact with a PC.

Having decided to “introduce” your analog TV to the new quality of television programs, you will have to enter into an appropriate agreement and purchase a decoder for digital television complete with a smart card for access to digital television channels. A control panel is purchased with them. The map determines the range of paid channels available to you. The built-in EPG service involves automatic provision of a television program.

For all four modifications of the DVB signal, a receiver with a smart card is relevant, and for cable (DVB-C) it is sufficient. When using a DVB-T signal emitted by a terrestrial antenna, you additionally need a UHF antenna with a tuner. For the satellite DVB-S signal, a satellite antenna with a tuner is used. In the future, DVB-T technology is planned to dominate.

If your TV is new, digital, or more precisely, supports the DVB-T2 standard, then it does not need a decoder for digital television - instead of the latter, you purchase a CAM unit along with an access card. This option will provide you with a bonus - controlling channels using the only remote control “native” to the TV.

Ultimately, the introduction of digital TV will benefit not only the image quality, but also the quality of TV broadcasts. If free channels “feed” on multi-minute advertising, then digital subscriber channels “earn their living” mainly from subscription fees. The introduction of digital television is a decisive step towards innovative digital technologies that blur the line between home appliances and computers. The concept of the Russian Ministry of Communications considers 2015 as the beginning of structural changes in the television broadcasting industry, and 2020 as the final transition to digital television.

In this article we will look at the digital cable television standard from the point of view of the end consumer. We will try to identify all the possible pros and cons of this technology.

For digital cable television networks, the dvb-c standard is used. To connect to a digital cable television broadcast network, you will need a decoder and an access card. The cable for transmitting the dvb-c signal is the same as for regular cable television - coaxial with a resistance of 75 ohms. Each connected TV will require a separate decoder.

All work on installation and configuration of the decoder will be carried out by a specialist from a company engaged in providing access to the digital cable TV network. However, you can configure the decoder yourself. In modern digital TVs, the decoder is already built-in and to connect to the network you only need an access card and a special adapter called a cam module. In the version with a cam module, the use of digital TV will be simplified due to the fact that you will not need a second remote control from the decoder; you can control all viewing using the TV remote control. However, you may lose additional services provided by the cable TV network operator using the decoder.

The set of channels can be set individually, and channels containing video materials inappropriate for children can be locked with a password. Along with the television signal, additional information is also transmitted in the digital cable TV network, such as the television program for each channel and the exact time. Radio stations can also be transmitted. Using a decoder coupled with a hard drive that connects via USB, you can record programs on a schedule or watch TV shows with the option of delayed viewing. For example, when your mom calls you during a football match, you can simply pause the broadcast and continue watching from where you left off.

The cost of the initial equipment is about 2000-3000 rubles per decoder (1500-2000 per cam module). Services for installation and connection to the CATV network are usually provided free of charge, but a fee may be charged for cable and additional equipment, usually no more than 500 rubles. The subscription fee is about 300-400 rubles.

Advantages of digital cable television: Inexpensive connection to the cable TV network. High level of service. High definition television. Minimum set of additional equipment.

Disadvantages of digital cable television: Geographical reference to the connection point. Linked to the operator and its network, possible network failures will affect the quality of the TV signal. Small coverage areas (not every city has digital CATV, not to mention villages). To connect to the Internet you need a second wire.
