Control and limitation of computer time. How to limit computer time: a usurping method for naughty children and weak-willed adults A program for limiting computer access for children

How to set restrictions on computer use?

Greetings to all readers, we will continue the topic of special Windows system settings and now we will raise the topic of how to set a limit on the operating time on a computer running Windows 7 and higher.

The function is useful, especially for advanced parents who care more or less about the development of their offspring and who are not at all indifferent to what they spend their best years on.

The article, which is very rare for my blog, does not contain any hidden settings and system tweaks, and describes a very specific function available to the Windows administrator, which should have appeared on the computer a long time ago. However, as practice suggests, many caring parents are not even aware of it and resort to the help of third-party programs.

There is only one condition - you must have administrator rights on the system, and your child logs into Windows from a guest account. There is no need to download anything; we will work in the command console or directly from Windows Explorer. Windows is full of this goodness, and now you will see for yourself.

How to set a limit using Windows settings.

Starting with version 7, the Parental Control function appeared. It's easy to find in Control panels:

A window will appear with a list of accounts of all registered users:

Click on the child's account and the settings window will appear. It’s very convenient to work in it – everything is clear there:

So, if we select the first of the time limit items, User Controls will take us to a kind of schedule by day of the week and hour. Set the desired days and specific times when your child can log on to the computer and play:

Setting a time limit here is simple - grab the desired part of the improvised table with the mouse, without releasing the mouse, drag it until the required time (so as not to click on each cell separately). Please note that the days of the week and hours when the child will not be able to log into his “account” are highlighted in blue.

If you (or rather, your children) still have to sit at the computer, using information from the network, you can set restrictions not on access to the computer, but on specific programs. And here everything has already been thought out, and it’s very useful and informative. I even advise you to stay longer in the next function. Select an item Allowing and blocking specific programs:

Here are all the executive files that the system has noticed. Yes, you won’t see a more extensive list of programs that are installed in your Windows. So, along the way, you can also find something that you have already forgotten or wanted to forget.

And just check the box to ban the program. And when trying to start, the child will see a window about the administrator prohibiting the launch. This could have ended, but not on my site.

How to set a limit using the Command Console.

Open the console as administrator:

Enter a command like:

net user Child /times:M-F,10:00-22:00;Sa-Su,09:00-23:00

  • M-F means Monday to Friday
  • Sa-Su – from Saturday to Sunday
  • well, you already guessed about the time on the clock (the command accepts only “round” hours: if you try to enter, for example, 22:15 you will be sent to... help)

Yes, now I will prohibit To kid work from Tuesday to Wednesday from 10 to 11 pm:

Capital letters mean the first letters of the names of the days of the week in English. That is, it turns out:

  • M – Monday
  • T – Tuesday
  • W – environment
  • Th – Thursday
  • F – Friday
  • Sa – Saturday
  • Su – Sunday

The command may look like net user Child /time:M-F,8am-5pm for those whose system tray displays the time in 12-hour format. I’m used to determining whether it’s day or night.

What is the “joy” of this approach? In your absence, a persistent would-be hacker could override the restrictions on your account: as you can see, this is easy to do. Here's the team net user-and he won’t allow him to do this. After all, the settings in Parental Control will remain untouched. To cancel the settings, he will need to enter another command. For example, you already know how to set the desired time (the new command will reset the previous settings) or enter the command to reset all settings:

net user Child /time:all

That's all I wanted to say. Good luck.

Excessive child spending time on the computer entails many undesirable consequences. These include poor performance and bad behavior at school, constant fatigue, lack of mood, irritability and even aggression. The panacea is to limit the child’s access to the computer and interest him in something else. Otherwise, the cub may begin to turn into a hysterical zombie. But Mipko Time Sheriff will not allow this! Mipko Time Sheriff is a program for monitoring a child at the computer. Thanks to the Mipko Time Sheriff parental control program, your child will use the computer strictly according to your rules. Specify in the settings the time interval when the child is allowed to work on the computer, or indicate how many hours a day the computer can be turned on. Prohibit or limit the launch of certain programs (browsers, games, instant messengers) using the utility.

Parental control

Teach your child to manage his time. Show him that the computer is not the only way to spend his leisure time. Don't let your child stay up late either preparing essays or watching funny videos. Parental control on a computer is an opportunity to discipline a child without wasting your own nerves and time. Mipko Time Sheriff is a parental control program that can be downloaded on any Windows (from XP and higher). The program will help you cope with your child's attachment to the computer. Mipko Time Sheriff cannot be mollified with requests “Maaaam, 5 more minutes!”: the program will shut down the computer strictly at the specified time. Mipko Time Sheriff parental control is installed on the child’s account and then configured by the parent based on the problem that needs to be solved or prevented.

How to lock a computer from a child

Does your child sit at the computer at night? Set a schedule that allows you to turn on your computer only during the day. Does your child sit at the computer for many hours a day? Set a limit that allows you to work on the computer a certain number of hours per day. When the allowed time is up, the computer will turn off or go into sleep mode. Setting a time limit for visiting certain sites will help limit your child’s time on the computer. You can specify in the settings of the parental control program which sites you cannot spend, for example, more than 30 minutes a day. When the allowed time expires, the parental control program will automatically close the site and will not allow you to open it again in the browser. Parental control restrictions do not apply to other accounts. You can disable the parental control program or make changes to its settings only if you know a special key combination that you define yourself. To limit your child’s time at the computer and maintain mutual understanding in the family, draw up a schedule for working at the computer together with your child, listening to his wishes.

Almost every child between the ages of seven and fourteen has a device that allows them to freely “travel” the World Wide Web. And their first contact with a laptop occurs at an early age.

Parents understand that the Internet is not only a way to quickly get the necessary information or an opportunity to communicate with people on another continent. The Internet is full of content that is not suitable for children. But how can you limit your children's access to the Internet so that they can still do their studies? There are several ways to block inappropriate content on different devices.

How to restrict children's access to the Internet?

First, parents need to understand what the essence of parental restrictions on access to the Internet and applications is. This protective measure is a control over the impact of the Internet and personal computer on a child. Parental controls are activated either using software built into the operating system or using third-party applications.

To understand how to restrict children's access to the Internet, you need to understand the types of parental controls. Access restriction can be divided into two main subtypes:

  • Active parental controls.
  • Passive parental control.

Active control consists of total monitoring of all the child’s actions. The software sends the parent a list of sites visited by the child. An adult can also impose a ban on loading sites containing inappropriate content.

Passive parental control allows you to set a time limit for using a personal computer or smartphone. The parent can also prohibit the downloading, installation or launch of certain applications, for example, games. Children can only have access to a certain list of sites, and so on. It’s easy to figure out how to restrict children’s access to the Internet. No special skills or knowledge required. The menu of specialized applications is intuitive.

Parental controls on a computer or laptop

Many parents wonder how to limit their child's access to the computer. Setup in the Windows operating system does not take much time.

First you need to go through the following path: “Start” - “Settings” - “Accounts” - “Family”. Next, you need to create a new profile by clicking on the “Add family member” button. The system will then prompt you to “Add a child account.” After entering the basic data, you must indicate the age of the child. If you put a date that says it will be less than eight years old, the operating system will automatically set the maximum security level.

Parental controls in action

After installing parental controls, questions about how to restrict your child’s access to the Internet do not arise. Windows will automatically block unwanted content. But parents themselves can make some changes.

For example, a parent can set a timer. By setting the exact operating time of the device, adults can be sure that the child will not spend the whole day playing games. Parental controls allow you to block certain applications. The program also allows you to track how much time your child spent on specific applications.

In addition, every week the parent will receive complete information about the activity of the child who used this device.

Setting up Internet access restrictions on a smartphone or tablet

There are several options for limiting your child's Internet access. Android devices allow you not only to use the built-in functions, but also to download a special children's launcher from the Play Market.

"PlayPad Children's Launcher" after a simple installation will allow parents to strictly limit the list of applications that can be launched. The program will also ensure that the child does not wander into online stores and make purchases. In addition, exiting “children’s mode” will be available only to parents.

The launcher gives parents the opportunity to control the device remotely, set time limits for using the gadget, and will also help track the child’s location.

Devices running Android version 5.0 and below have a built-in Pin to Screen feature that allows you to limit access to one pinned program. In order to configure this function, you need to go to “Settings” - “Security” - “Attach to Screen”. In the window that opens, you must select one of the proposed programs and secure it. The child will not be able to exit the application without the parent's permission.

The Internet is a great place for children to learn, make friends, and gain new skills. But this place is very dangerous for a child. Knowledge can be harmful, and friends can turn out to be enemies. The more we go online, the more we begin to worry about whether children are protected from the harmful influence of bad ideas, all the dirty things that are on the Internet. Another problem for parents is the uncontrolled use of the computer without any restrictions - both in time and in the programs launched.

The software used, of course, will never replace the friendly but stern attention of an adult. It is only intended to make the lives of children and adults a little easier and safer. Especially when children grow up and demand more freedom.

We present the best parental control systems for the Windows, macOS and mobile phone platforms at the beginning of 2018.

Qustodio

It differs in that it is a complete set of tools for monitoring children online.

⊕ Allows you to filter the content received by children

⊕ Allows parents to set time limits on device use

⊕ Available for both computers and mobile phones

Most parental control programs are designed for the Windows platform, but this package works on many platforms at once: there are options for iOS, Android, for the Amazon Kindle reader, for Apple computers.

The free version of this program is one of the strongest security solutions on the market. Allows you to set parental rules, work schedules, block pornography and other inappropriate content. For those who have switched to the paid option, it becomes possible to monitor SMS and filter content on social networks, and customize applications individually.

The list of features and wide choice of platforms makes Qustodio one of the best applications, but, however, it is not the final solution. Many of the better things that may seem like a higher priority to parents have been addressed in other apps. For example: filtering of social networks (available only in the paid version), the ability for especially advanced children to bypass protection on the Android platform (the percentage of talents is not large, but it is there). In addition, the program must be initially configured correctly so that it is part of the system and does not have to be launched manually.

OpenDNS FamilyShield

It has an undeniable advantage - it works at the router level and cannot be bypassed on a computer.

⊕ Works at the router level

⊕ Contains ready-made lists for blocking

⊗ May be difficult to initially set up

The FamilyShield subsystem of the OpenDNS service is an integral part of it. It automatically blocks domains that are marked within the service as “useless, harmful, proxies, anonymizers, erotica, pornography.”

The big advantage of this solution is that it can be used in conjunction with other parental control tools without fear of problems from sharing them, and it runs at the router level. Thus, even if a child hacks all the systems on the computer and gains access to everything, he will not be able to bypass the OpenDNS servers, unless, of course, he uses some alternative Internet access channel.

All requests in the entire local network (even if the child connects to Wi-Fi via a mobile phone, because you will completely turn off the Internet via 3G/4G) will be automatically filtered and all suspicious resources will be automatically blocked.

KidLogger

Even if a child has broken through all the established barriers, uses only a social network and has entered the Internet in spite of everything, you will still be aware of what he is communicating about and what he is doing.

⊕ Records everything entered from the keyboard

⊕ Available for different platforms

⊗ The free version cannot record audio

Our children often turn out to be much more talented than their parents. And it happens that the most complex control systems give in to their ingenuity. In addition, the very diverse range of means of communication, the shift of attention to social networks, which are very difficult to filter, make many means helpless in the face of threats from the Internet.

In this case, there is an additional tool that can give parents complete information about what their child is doing on the computer in their absence.

This program not only records keyboard input, but also allows you to determine what sites the child visited, what programs he launched and from time to time takes screenshots. For those concerned about who their children may be communicating with online, there is a voice-activated recording feature. If you trust your children more, the program's capabilities allow you to configure it to control only what is necessary, thus giving children the opportunity to have a little more privacy.

The free version is good, functional, but, unfortunately, does not contain many very useful features of the paid version, including shadow monitoring of chats, the ability to listen to and record Skype conversations, but, however, it is quite suitable for ensuring the safety of a child.

Spyrix Free Keylogger

Another means of saving data entered from the keyboard.

⊕ Allows you to remotely monitor what is happening on your computer

⊕ Saves data for weeks

⊕ Controls the clipboard and printers

⊗ Can’t block content

Keyboard interception programs have a bad reputation. They are used to steal passwords from banks, but like any tool, they can be used for good. Spyrix Free Keylogger will allow parents to know what their children are doing online on the computer.

It won't stop your child from consuming toxic and dangerous content, but it will accurately and reliably record everything that happens. The free version is an option along with the paid version and has good features.

Good afternoon, comrades, today I want to tell you how to determine and how this time can be limited, for example, for children who sit and play on the computer instead of studying. This functionality has long been part of the operating system, but unfortunately, not all users know about it and do not properly use this technology, but I will try to correct these gaps in knowledge in your bright minds.

And so earlier we had an update to Windows 10 Anniversary Update 1607, after which we received the Windows 10 Redstone operating system. You are faced with a task or interest in how to find out the operating time of a Windows 10 computer and I will help you with this.

  • First way

The Tens Task Manager will help us solve this problem. To get into it, click on the start area, right-click and select Task Manager from the context menu, or you can press the Windows 10 hotkeys CRTL+SHIFT+ESC.

Go to the Performance tab and at the very bottom you will find the Windows 10 Redstone uptime item. In my example, I just booted up and my time is 5 minutes and 53 seconds.

This is the simplest method of all.

  • Second way

The second method will be done from the Windows command line. Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt from the context menu.

To find out the operating time of a Windows 10 computer in the cmd window, you must enter the following command

  • Third way

In order to find out the operating time of windows 10, we will use another command line command, namely

net statistics workstation

After it has been processed, you will see the Statistics after and date field, this is the operating system boot time.

  • Fourth method

We press WIN+R and in the window that opens, enter ncpa.cpl.

Network Adventures will open, select the active network interface and right-click on it, select Status from the context menu.

In the Network Interface Status window that opens, find the Duration field, this is the operating time of Windows 10.

  • Fifth method

Here we will use powershell capabilities to determine the operating time of Windows 10 and WMI data. First let's do the WMI output.

$wmi = Get-WmiObject Win32_OperatingSystem
$wmi.LastBootUpTime

$wmi.ConvertToDateTime($wmi.LastBootUpTime)

As a result, we see what we need.

You can also display the operating time with millisecond accuracy.

$wmi.ConvertToDateTime($wmi.LocalDateTime) - wmi.ConvertToDateTime($wmi.LastBootUpTime)

  • Sixth method

In this method, we will use Windows 10 logs, right-click again on the start button and select Event Viewer.

Go to the System log, click Filter current log, in the window that opens, enter code 6005 and click OK.

As a result, this log will be filtered by the System and you will receive the necessary events. We see our system boot time.

Limiting computer operation by time windows 10

And so we learned how to calculate uptime, now let's learn how to limit the computer's operation by time in Windows 10. Our task is to limit the local account that belongs to your child so that he can do his homework. Why don't we use parental controls? If you log into a child's controlled account, go into the account settings and enable a local account instead of a Microsoft account, the parental control functions stop working.

How to set a time limit for a local Windows 10 Redstone account

What we need, firstly, if your child has a local account with administrator rights, then you need to make it a regular user. To do this, open the control panel.

In Control Panel, select User Accounts.

I have a Children account and it has full admin rights. If you do not have another account, then at this point you can create one.

And we make it standard.

As a result, we see it became a regular account.

Now, to time limit your computer in Windows 10, you need to open Command Prompt as an administrator. Enter the command:

net user username /time:day,time

In this team:

  • Username - the name of the Windows 10 user account for which restrictions are set.
  • Day - day or days of the week (or range) in which you can enter. English abbreviations of days (or their full names) are used: M, T, W, Th, F, Sa, Su (Monday - Sunday, respectively).
  • Time - time range in HH:MM format, for example 14:00-15:00

If we need to specify several ranges, for example, entry is possible from Monday to Friday from 19 to 21, and on Sunday from 7 am to 21 o'clock, the command can be written as follows:

net user username /time:M-F,19:00-21:00;Su,07:00-21:00

To remove all restrictions from your account, enter

net user username /time:all

Now we try to log in under the Children account after 15-00, and we see the inscription. You are unable to log in at this time due to your account restrictions. Please try again later.

The goal has been achieved, but keep in mind that children are now smart and will be able to Google correctly and bypass this limitation, so the most correct method would be a conversation with dad)))
