LG Leon n 324. LG Leon phone: characteristics, reviews. Battery life

If you are looking for a budget but functional device, pay attention to the LG Leon. Its characteristics, of course, are very different from those of modern flagships, but the device cannot be called outdated. This is a good option for those who are not chasing new products, but dream of a stylish and powerful smartphone.

Smartphone LG Leon H 324: technical specifications

When choosing a smartphone, the first thing we pay attention to is the design. However, a beautiful shell will not give you any pleasure if the “filling” does not satisfy your needs. So, the LG Leon smartphone looks quite attractive. The characteristics of this device are as follows:

Equipment

An extremely simple device is the LG Leon. The characteristics of the device indicate that the smartphone is far from modern trends, but can satisfy all the basic needs of the user. The device contents are as follows:

  • the smartphone itself;
  • AC adapter for charging the battery;
  • USB cable for connecting to a network adapter and a personal computer;
  • user guide;
  • warranty card.

Appearance of the device

The LG Leon smartphone looks quite attractive. The characteristics of the device should be considered, starting with its appearance. The oval shape of the bottom edge looks attractive. The sloping back cover, made of plastic painted to look like metal, looks quite original. Perhaps the most interesting thing is the location of the control buttons. All of them are placed on the rear panel, which can be perceived ambiguously by users.

Despite the fact that the smartphone is equipped with a small capacity battery (only 1900 mAh), the device is too thick. Other manufacturers manage to fit larger batteries into sleek, thin smartphones. But, despite its bulky dimensions, the smartphone fits very comfortably in the hand. The device is available to customers in gold, white and black versions, so everyone can choose what they like.

It is worth noting the excellent build quality. There are no backlashes or creaks observed during use. Despite the fact that the back cover is curved, it does not bend when pressed. And although the model is budget, the manufacturer took care of the oleophobic coating for the screen. Of course, it is not the highest quality, but without it it would be much worse. As a result, the finger glides easily across the surface, leaving virtually no fingerprints.

Above the display is a speaker, which has an oblong shape. Nearby there is a front camera peephole and a proximity sensor. Below the display there is only the company logo, and all control buttons are located directly on it.

The side edges of the device are completely free from any control elements. this defines a stylish appearance and also eliminates the possibility of accidentally pressing buttons. At the bottom there is a microphone and a micro-USB output. At the top there is a headphone jack, as well as another microphone.

The back cover looks quite interesting. At the top there is a camera eye and an LED flash. Below is a raised silver power button, surrounded by mechanical keys responsible for adjusting the volume. Thanks to special concentric notches, the control elements are easy to recognize by touch. At the bottom there is a corporate logo, to the left of which is the speaker grille.

Ergonomics

Before buying a smartphone, you should pay attention to the ergonomics of the LG Leon H340. The characteristics indicate that the gadget is quite compact and lightweight. Active people will like it, because it can easily be placed in a jacket, jacket or trouser pocket. Another advantage of the small size is the ability to operate the device with one hand.

Special attention should be paid to the back panel of the LG Leon 324 smartphone. The characteristics of the body material are quite decent. The plastic from which the lid is made is rough and pleasant to the touch. The device will not slip out of your hands. But the most important thing is the control elements. Despite the fact that many may find their position inconvenient, the fingers immediately fall on them. This is an excellent solution also from the point of view that it will be comfortable for left-handers.

When you pick up a smartphone, you won’t immediately understand how its back cover is removed. However, when you open the user manual, you will see that a small groove is located near the micro-USB connector. By slightly prying the lid up, you can easily open it to gain access to the battery and card slots.

Screen Features

Many users have fallen in love with the LG Leon H324 smartphone. The screen characteristics are quite modest compared to other modern devices. The 4.5-inch diagonal will seem insufficient for lovers of full-size pictures. But if you value comfort and compact dimensions, this option is perfect for you.

When considering the LG Leon H324 smartphone, screen characteristics play a decisive role. It is worth noting that an IPS matrix without an air gap was used in its manufacture. In addition to the oleophobic one, the manufacturer also took care of the anti-reflective coating, which works quite effectively.

Viewing angles leave much to be desired. At the slightest deviation, the brightness decreases greatly. The image begins to give off purple and yellow colors. The screen brightness reserve is insufficient. And the absence of a light sensor greatly affects the comfort of using the device.

Battery

Don't expect long battery life if you choose the LG Leon Titan smartphone. The battery characteristics are quite modest. The battery capacity is only 1900 mAh. But for such a battery the operating time is quite decent. So, if you make several calls a day in moderate wireless network use, the device will “live” for about 12 hours. This indicator is due to the weak screen backlight and the optimized version of the OS. If you like to watch videos, then don't expect more than 6 hours of work. But if a smartphone for you is just a “dialer” (no more than 4 hours of calls a day), then you can use it for a couple of days without recharging.

Memory

One of the weak points of the LG Leon Titan smartphone is its memory characteristics. The RAM is only 768 MB, which is very little. Even the most budget devices, manufacturers try to provide at least 1 GB of RAM. The built-in memory is also sorely lacking. Despite the fact that the manufacturer specifies 4 GB, most of the space is occupied by the operating system and programs. About 1.5 GB is available to the user. Fortunately, the smartphone is equipped with a memory card slot. But even due to it, you cannot expand the storage volume by more than 32 GB.

Camera Features

If you test the cameras of the LG H324 Leon Titan smartphone, you are unlikely to be pleased with the characteristics. There are 2 modules of 5 MP and 0.3 MP. Naturally, with such indicators there is no need to talk about high quality images. Although, in good lighting, the picture is quite clear. If you try to take a photo at dusk or under incandescent light, the image will appear cloudy and blurry. The only good thing is autofocus, which works quickly and clearly.

The front camera of the LG Leon Gold looks truly modest. The characteristics of the module take users back a few years ago, when such functions just began to appear. 0.3 megapixels is hardly enough to ensure communication via Skype. There can be no talk of any bright and clear selfies.

The low quality of pictures taken on the LG Leon H324 is due to its characteristics. Reviews describe the photographs as follows:

  • pictures taken outdoors at night are characterized by a lot of noise and poor detail, however, if there are additional lighting sources, the camera will pick up the difference in brightness;
  • shooting outdoors in good sunlight gives a fairly bright and clear image, but the detail is weak (especially when it comes to distant objects);
  • with good lighting in the room, the white balance is conveyed quite accurately, the colors are saturated;
  • Close-up photography is quite high-quality, but the white color gives off a yellowish tint (this can be corrected with the help of a flash);
  • if you photograph text, it is perceived well, but the white background becomes bluish;
  • Photos taken with the front camera are noisy and the image is blurry.

Of course, the cameras of the LG Leon smartphone are not admirable. The technical specifications are so modest that the manufacturer decided to equip the application with a number of additional functions. So, for example, you can take a photo using a gesture. All you have to do is place your palm in front of the camera, and when it recognizes it, you need to clench your hand into a fist. You can also take a photo using a voice command.

Performance

The characteristics of the LG Leon smartphone indicate that this device is quite budget-friendly. The two-year-old chipset no longer meets modern requirements, and therefore you should not expect high performance from this phone. The most important thing is the smooth operation of the interface: changing the display orientation takes less than a second. Perhaps this is where the positive aspects end. But for stable operation of applications there is a catastrophic lack of RAM. It is quite natural that there can be no talk of any heavy games.

Software

The LG Leon LTE smartphone has a pleasant and smooth interface. The characteristics are quite decent, considering the low cost of the device. One cannot but rejoice at the relatively recent version of the Android 5.0 operating system. The picture is complemented by a proprietary shell, which is slightly trimmed down compared to older versions of smartphones from this manufacturer. Nevertheless, there are a lot of interesting features that will make your work with the device much easier:

  • the device can be unlocked by double tapping anywhere on the screen;
  • gesture control;
  • setting the screen to unlock by touch at certain points to protect your data from unauthorized users;
  • turning off the incoming call signal by turning the smartphone screen down;
  • operation in energy-saving mode when the charge level drops below 15%;
  • There are several visual effects for turning the screen on and off;
  • ability to change the location of control buttons.

Multimedia capabilities

When considering the characteristics of the LG Leon phone, it is worth paying attention to its multimedia capabilities. I would immediately like to note the work of the main speaker, which provides a fairly clear and loud sound. The manufacturer has installed a standard proprietary music player on the smartphone, which has a user-friendly interface. The only disappointment is the lack of an equalizer, which somewhat limits the possibilities for customizing the sound. The device is also equipped with a radio, which is a positive thing. The smartphone plays videos in FullHD format without any problems.

Positive reviews

Of course, they provide almost complete basic information about the LG Leon smartphone characteristics. Reviews, however, allow you to form an objective impression of the gadget. So, users note the following positive aspects:

  • there are no buttons on the side panels, which provides a fairly stylish appearance;
  • despite the fact that the back cover is plastic, the coating strongly resembles metal, which adds solidity to the device;
  • to insert a memory card, you do not need to remove the battery;
  • very convenient and understandable interface (to understand the operation of the device, you do not need to read the instructions);
  • excellent build quality (the back cover fits tightly and does not creak anywhere);
  • responsive sensor responds quickly to touches;
  • excellent audibility during a conversation (thus, we can talk about a loud speaker and a high-quality microphone);
  • good external speaker (the call can be heard perfectly even from a pocket or bag);
  • easy-to-use standard player;
  • good sound of music through headphones;
  • autofocus works quickly and clearly;
  • affordable price (about 7,000 rubles);
  • Thanks to its compact size, the device fits comfortably in your hand and fits in any pocket;
  • I'm glad to be able to take photos by touching anywhere on the screen;
  • there is a “knock code” function, which involves unlocking the screen using a unique graphic combination;
  • the phone can be used as a modem to distribute an Internet signal;
  • relatively recent version of the operating system;
  • the manufacturer did not clutter the system with a large number of pre-installed applications;
  • despite the low camera resolution, the phone shoots video well;
  • the front panel looks stylish and laconic;
  • there is an oleophobic and anti-reflective coating;
  • The screen can be locked and unlocked with a double tap (no need to reach for the button located on the back panel every time).

Negative reviews

There were some negative aspects during the operation of the LG Leon phone. Characteristics and reviews give a complete impression of all the negative aspects. It is worth paying attention to the following comments:

  • There are no headphones included (even the most modest ones), and therefore you have to buy them separately;
  • there are no control buttons on the front panel, because they are transferred to the touch display, which significantly reduces its area;
  • very poor front camera with a resolution of only 0.3 megapixels (pictures are of poor quality, and therefore this option is only suitable for video calling);
  • Considering that all the buttons are located on the back cover, it looks overloaded;
  • “hot swapping” of SIM cards is not supported (in order to insert a card, you need to remove the battery);
  • limited amount of built-in memory (only 1.5 GB is available to the user, which creates certain problems in operation);
  • very weak battery (at an average load the charge lasts less than a day);
  • a few months after use, the smartphone begins to periodically “slow down” (this problem is episodic and disappears on its own after a while);
  • not the best quality of pictures taken with the main camera;
  • memory can be expanded to no more than 32 GB;
  • the plastic case is not resistant to shocks and scratches, and therefore you have to carry the device in a case;
  • the phone is characterized by too much thickness, which does not fit in with the small battery capacity;
  • it is difficult to get used to the location of the lock button and volume key on the rear panel;
  • the shooting function using gestures is triggered every once in a while;
  • not all applications can be moved to a memory card;
  • low RAM, which negatively affects performance;
  • heavy games on this smartphone function intermittently or do not work at all;
  • If any serious damage to the back cover occurs, the phone will not be able to be turned on or off, because the power button is located there.

Conclusion

If you want to get a modern and inexpensive smartphone, pay attention to the LG H 324 Leon. The characteristics are quite consistent with its current cost (about 7,000 rubles). Of course, if you analyze other devices in this price category, you can conclude that you are overpaying for the brand. However, if it is important for you to have a device from a well-known manufacturer, you will be pleased with its attractive appearance, simplicity and ease of use, decent battery life, and excellent sound quality.

Of course, it was not without its drawbacks. The first thing that catches your eye is that the screen quality is not the best. Insufficient brightness and poor color rendering will hurt the eye if you like to play games and look at pictures. The cameras will also be a real disappointment. Limited RAM and a weak processor cause poor performance. However, if you are looking for an inexpensive, stylish “zonilka”, you will like this device.

This review- the final story about the new line of affordable smartphones according to LG. Leon is the youngest and, accordingly, the cheapest model. It is clear that a budget device is characterized by endless compromises, but it is gratifying that the device, despite all this, still received the spirit and functionality of not only its older brothers, but also the company’s flagship.

Equipment here is expectedly simple and sparse. Includes AC power supply, Micro USB cable and accompanying documentation. It’s a pity, of course, that LG didn’t include at least a bad, but still wired, headset in the package. Let's be honest, consumers who buy devices of this level are often not demanding of sound quality. And getting a bonus in the form of headphones is always nice. Still, the device has support for memory cards for downloading music, and, in addition, is equipped with an FM radio, which does not work without headphones connected. In general, we saved in the wrong places.

Design

Unfortunately, the hero of today's review is an exception from the entire line and does not have a truly curved screen, which we can see in Spirit or. The front surface here is completely flat without any radius of curvature, which the manufacturer proudly talks about in older devices.

The protective glass has a real, truly effective oleophobic coating.

According to my observation, the screen protection from the accumulation of fingerprints and dust is implemented even better than in the older and more expensive one. Real miracles!

Above the display is a front camera with a distance sensor. But there was no place to install an ambient light sensor. Instead, a function has been implemented to switch the backlight to a minimum level at night, that is, according to a schedule. You can live with this, and even quite well.

The touch keys for system control are part of the interface, so the area under the screen is empty. There is only a decorative strip of plastic and nothing else.

The sides of the smartphone are empty, since all the physical buttons, according to the good old tradition of the manufacturer, are located behind the back.

Moreover, in Leon the keys are part of a detachable cover, while in other devices they were located directly on the body. In other words, if the back cover is removed, the only way to turn off the device is by removing the battery.

The main camera is located in the center of the back side, and the LED flash is located nearby.

Under the cover there is a slot for Micro SD memory cards and other internals of the device.

The pride of the company is its removable battery. I don’t know why users need this functionality, but LG presents it in a positive way. Under the battery there are slots for installing Micro SIM cards.

Each SIM card can connect to 3G networks, but they cannot do this at the same time.

This is set programmatically in the settings either on the first or second card. The only way.

The audio output is on the top edge of the device, and the universal Micro USB connector is on the bottom. Each end has its own microphone.

The back is stylized as a specially processed metal, despite the fact that the battery compartment cover is made of plastic, as is the entire smartphone.

The dimensions of the device are quite miniature. He is the smallest among his brothers and even, perhaps, among his competitors. We look at the plate with dimensions below.

For me personally, the device is too small, both in size and screen. I have long been accustomed to larger 5 - 5.5-inch devices. However, those who used, say, the iPhone 4, will be pleasantly pleased with the increased screen area.

There are expectedly three color versions of the device available on the market and all have rather romantic names: metallic black, silky white and shining gold. Each of these variations looks original, so the use of a loud name can be considered justified.

Display

The smartphone has an IPS matrix with a diagonal of 4.5 inches and a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. The pixel density per square inch is 218 pixels, which is enough for comfortable work. Individual pixels, of course, can be seen, but during normal use at a distance of 30-50 cm from the eyes, everything looks clear and smooth.

I would like to note that the screen sandwich is made using In-Cell Touch technology, that is, without an air gap between the glass and the LED panel. In fact, you get the feeling that you are touching directly the icons and links of the interface, and not the glass, which is often at a noticeable distance from the LED substrate.
Viewing angles are expectedly good. IPS (in-plane switching) at its finest! What else can you say?

A little about the “brains” of the device. SoC Mediatek MT6582 (32 bit) is installed here. The processor is made using 28-nanometer technology and includes 4 Cortex-A7 cores. This chip is quite old (released at the end of 2013) and is comparable in performance to Ndivia Tegra 3.

I would like to say something about memory separately. Only 4 GB are allocated for data storage, of which 2.43 GB are occupied by the system.

As a result, only 1.56 GB is available to the user, and that is only if unnecessary content in the form of pre-installed applications is removed.

The rest of the picture looks like this. There is no NFC, the OTG protocol is not supported, and the front camera is still with VGA resolution - in general, it has all the delights of a real budget device in terms of additional technical goodies.

It is clear that against the backdrop of all this, you should not expect breakthrough performance from a smartphone. The interface of the proprietary shell does not slow down, since it is well optimized for the built-in hardware, but the device still likes to think when launching applications and switching between them. Since there are no stutters or any errors, even taking into account the sluggishness of the smartphone, using it is still more pleasant than not.

The results of system tests are clearly presented below.

The international modification of LG Leon differs from the one sold on the domestic market as follows. Firstly, it supports LTE Cat 4 networks. Next comes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 MSM8916 processor with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz. Then RAM for a whole 1 GB and 8 GB allocated for data storage. For some reason, in the foreign version the battery capacity was slightly reduced to 1820 mAh. That's probably all.

Photo

The main camera here is represented by a 5-megapixel module; accordingly, the output images are obtained in a resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixels. There is autofocus, which, in general, works correctly.

The quality of the final images cannot but rejoice.

With sufficient daylight, the pictures turn out really good, and on a smartphone screen it looks just great.

There are no fatal errors in the automatic determination of exposure, there are practically no dark places or disappearance into an incomprehensible colored fog, as often happens in budget cameras. For the most part, everything is fine. In no case can you compare the capabilities of the LG Leon with flagships, but for its money it shoots well.

The originals of the photographs presented can be found at this link.

The only conditions where Leon did not perform at its best, to put it mildly, were night shooting.

The photos turn out very blurry, with huge noise and all that. Taking pictures with a smartphone at night is not at all an option.

The device is capable of recording videos in a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 fps. The quality of the video is not bad, but, of course, it is far from the best. For non-artistic photography, Leon's capabilities will be quite sufficient. Example below.

Software shell

I would like to devote a few paragraphs to the proprietary software add-on. In this respect, the device is no different from its counterparts. The same stylish, minimalistic and quite functional shell from LG is present here.

The bottom strip with keys for controlling the system can be configured in detail. You can change the background color from white to black and back, swap touch buttons, add new ones or remove old ones - in general, everything can be customized to suit you.

It’s great that the company is porting the interesting features of older devices to younger ones. I'm talking about a keyboard that can be customized in detail. You can customize the key block by changing the height, and thus the size of the buttons, as well as adding additional symbols, such as a comma or a question mark, depending on which one you use most often.

As always, you can lock your device not only with a password or pattern, but also with a special combination of several touches on different areas of the screen - Knock Code. The thing is very convenient and is only available on “ski” smartphones.

It’s more convenient for me to keep the screen on for a minute, but after the device reaches a 15 percent charge level and at some other point (we were unable to track this), everything returns to the original fifteen seconds. This behavior is observed on all products of the Korean company and personally it really bothers me.

Battery life

The device is equipped with a removable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1900 mAh. “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs,” this is the approach that obviously guided the engineers when creating the LG Leon. Weak hardware means you need to install a weak battery. Ultimately, we have the same standard operating time for a modern smartphone, be it a flagship or a simple dialer with Android on board. I mean one day with a fairly heavy load.

Of course, the device is capable of staying afloat for two days, and with gentle use (an hour and a half of screen operation) even more, but this is a ceiling. There is no need to hope for anything else.

Why doesn’t some manufacturer take and install a battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh in a smartphone that is weak in terms of hardware. This would be a truly competitive advantage. It is clear that there are thousands of nuances for this, the main of which are the thickness of the final product, the internal layout of parts, and so on. To solve all these problems, you will have to create a device from scratch, and not on the basis of something that already existed before. Rearrange parts, conduct hundreds of tests, and so on. However, work hard, damn it! People want long-lasting budget solutions and they are willing to vote for it with their money!

Bottom line

You can complete the review review mostly in a positive way. For example LG Leon it is clear that the company is focusing on design and ease of use. Characteristics fade into the background and guess what? This is not to say that this is a losing approach. Judge for yourself, Apple manages to successfully sell its smartphones even with hardware inside that is objectively behind its competitors. People don't need hundreds of megahertz and megapixels for a minimal or not very large amount of money. Comfort and style are important.

LG Leon meets all such expectations. Yes, it lacks a curved design, doesn't stand out due to its battery life, is quite thoughtful even when performing simple tasks, and yet it is well made. Often in the budget segment, manufacturers save on everything, including the emotional charge that the device carries. The result is something that leaves a lasting impression: “This smartphone was made only because the board of directors decided to enter the budget solutions segment. Moreover, this had to be done as soon as possible.” Samsung and smaller companies, such as Fly, often suffer from this approach, or more precisely, such results in the form of uninteresting, pass-through devices. It's great that LG isn't on this list.

Screen type: IPS (In Plane Switching) is a high-quality liquid crystal matrix that was created to eliminate the main disadvantages of TN technology matrices. The IPS matrix most adequately conveys colors across the entire spectrum at different viewing angles, with the exception of some color positions. The TN matrix usually has a better response than IPS, but not always. So, when transitioning from gray to gray, the IPS matrix behaves better. This matrix is also resistant to pressure. Touching the TN or VA matrix results in a "excitement" or a certain reaction on the screen. The IPS matrix does not have this effect. In addition, ophthalmologists confirm that the IPS matrix is the most comfortable for the eyes. In this *s*m* way, the IPS matrix brings a bright and clear picture regardless of viewing angles, best for surfing the Internet and watching movies. But the most important thing is for image processing and viewing photos. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) - Liquid crystal displays. The very first displays used in mobile devices, and not only in phones. Their main feature is that they have very low power consumption, due to the inability to display color images. They do not emit light and therefore phones are upgraded with backlight lamps. Some phones had several different backlight colors based on the presence of different LEDs around the perimeter of the display. This extraordinary solution was used, for example, in the Ericsson A3618 phone. On this type of display, pixels are clearly visible, and such displays cannot boast of high resolution. In order to extend the life of such displays, they were made inverse, i.e. text and symbols were not displayed as filled pixels, but, on the contrary, inactive against the background of filled ones. This resulted in light text on a dark background. Currently, this type of display is used in the cheapest budget models (Nokia 1112) and as an external display in some clamshells (Samsung D830).

TFT (Thin Film Transistor) - Liquid crystal displays based on thin film transistors with an active matrix. For each pixel there are three transistors corresponding to three colors (RGB - red, green, blue). At the moment, these are the most common displays and have a number of advantages over other displays. They are characterized by minimal response time and rapid development - ever-increasing resolution and number of colors. These displays are most common in mid-range and higher phones. Working resolutions for them: 128x160, 132x176, 176x208, 176x220, 240x320 and others, less common. Examples: Nokia N73 (240x320, 262K colors), Sony Ericsson K750i (176x220, 262K colors), Samsung D900 (240x320, 262K colors). TFTs are very rarely used as external displays for clamshells.

CSTN (Color Super Twisted Nematic) - Color liquid crystal displays with a passive matrix. Each pixel of such a display consists of three combined pixels, which correspond to three colors (RGB). Some time ago, almost all phones with color displays were based on this type. And now the destiny of such displays is budget models. The main disadvantage of such displays is their slowness. The undoubted advantage of such displays is their cost, which is significantly lower than TFT. Based on simple logic, we can assume that in the future TFT will displace this type of display from the mobile device market. The color evolution of such displays is quite extensive: from 16 to 65536 colors. Examples: Motorola V177 (128x160, 65K colors), Sony Ericsson J100i (96x64, 65K colors), Nokia 2310 (96x68, 65K colors).

UFB (Ultra Fine and Bright) - Liquid crystal displays with increased brightness and contrast on a passive matrix. We can say that this is an intermediate option between CSTN and TFT. This type of display boasts lower power consumption compared to TFT. For the most part, Samsung used such displays in mid-range phones. This type of display is not widely used. Examples: Samsung C100/110 (128x128, 65k colors).

TN is one of the matrix types of TFT screens. Roughly speaking, TN are the simplest and cheapest TFT matrices. Viewing angles are the narrowest.

At the MWC 2015 exhibition, which took place at the end of February, South Korean LG presented several inexpensive models of quad-core smartphones running on the latest version of the Android OS. We already wrote about Magna and Spirit a little earlier, now it’s time for a review of LG Leon.

Unlike older models, the new product does not have a curved screen and has more modest characteristics. But the price was only about 150 US dollars.

The smartphone received a strict design typical of LG: straight side lines and a slightly curved back cover. It is made of gray plastic, but the build quality is at the proper level, so the smartphone does not look cheap. The color of the front panel is black, and only at the bottom you can see a gray insert. There are also models with white and golden covers, but these were not seen on our market at the time of writing the review.

Unlike its older “brother” and “sister” (Spirit and Magna), the smartphone is presented in only one version (there is no modification with LTE support). Otherwise the characteristics are very close to them.

CPU

The LG Leon uses a budget quad-core processor from the Taiwanese MTK corporation, model MT6582. Its clock speed reaches 1.3 GHz, it is identical to the CPU in the Spirit and Magna versions without 4G support.

The smartphone uses a dual-core Mali-400 modification as a video processor. Due to the lower display resolution, the device's performance is even slightly higher than that of older models. Thus, the synthetic AnTuTu benchmark shows approximately 18 thousand points, which is 1000 more than Magna.

Memory

The amount of RAM suffered in comparison with older devices in the line: it was reduced by a quarter. 768 MB does not look impressive enough these days. For example, from less famous brands from China you can (at your own risk) purchase a phone with 1 or even 2 GB of RAM for the same amount.

The internal storage capacity of LG Leon has also decreased and is 4 GB. About half of them are available for downloading user-generated content. The memory card slot has not gone away, so the issue of expanding disk space is easily resolved.

Battery

The LG Leon battery is removable, it is made using traditional lithium-ion technology and has a capacity of 1900 mAh. In standby mode, with the Internet turned off, the smartphone can last 2-3 days. Under intense load, discharging from 100% to zero will take 5-7 hours, depending on the display backlight level. The indicators are similar to other devices in the series. The battery capacity decreases from the older model to the younger one, but the screen size also decreases.

Camera

The smartphone has a budget matrix with a capacity of 5 MP. It is equipped with a flash and autofocus, and allows you to get photos of acceptable quality in bright sunshine. But in semi-darkness, detail is significantly reduced. The only thing the lens can boast of in low light is its ability to photograph text. For such a task, the power of the built-in flash is quite enough. But portraits in such conditions turn out noticeably worse.

The front camera has a modest VGA matrix, from which you should not expect anything special. If you can still see some details in a “selfie” taken in the sun, then about indoor photos you can say: “okay, at least you look like yourself.”

Display

The LG Leon screen, unlike older models, cannot boast of HD resolution. It uses a budget IPS matrix with a diagonal of 4.5 inches. Its resolution is 854x480 pixels and pixel density is 220 DPI. The touchscreen is made of glass, but lacks an oleophobic coating that prevents the sensor from quickly becoming dirty. Therefore, the buyer will have to put up with stains on the screen or constantly carry a napkin with him to wipe it.

There are no complaints about the contrast and viewing angles of the display (after all, IPS does its job). But the brightness in the sun seems downright weak. As for graininess, for those who were tempted to use a Full-HD device, it will seem too noticeable. But an inexperienced person may not even pay attention to this.

Data transfer

Lg Leon is equipped with two slots for SIM cards, the operation of which is implemented in the traditional alternating way (both of them work in standby mode, but when making calls, the second one goes offline). The list of supported networks includes only 2G and 3G.

Separately, it is worth noting the good implementation of GPS and Wi-Fi antennas. Many inexpensive devices suffer from weak signal strength, especially indoors. LG Leon does not have this drawback.

Sound

The musical capabilities of the smartphone are quite typical for a device of this class. LG Leon, like most budget devices, is capable of generating loud sound when making a call, but to enjoy your favorite songs, the clarity of the sound from the speakers is not enough for a music lover. In headphones, the situation is noticeably better: both bass and high frequencies are reduced slightly.

People who use a smartphone for long conversations will appreciate the active noise reduction system. The second microphone, installed on the top end, picks up extraneous sounds to separate them from the voice of the interlocutor.

OS

The operating system of LG Leon is Android version 5.0.1, the latest at the time of the device’s release. The proprietary LG UX shell is used as the user interface. A pleasant surprise was the fact that, thanks to the lower screen resolution, the system speed is slightly higher than that of the same Spirit.

Pros and cons of LG Leon

The main positive features of the smartphone include:

  • decent performance;
  • nice design;
  • loud sound and noise reduction system.

Unfortunately, the LG Leon also had its downsides. This:

Conclusion

LG Leon is a typical budget phone for its time. It may not be the most powerful device in this price category, but other brands have weaker smartphones. Therefore, we can consider the device well worth the money. During the review, the LG Leon did not reveal any significant shortcomings that would be critical. But for those who like to shoot a lot, are used to super-clear screens, hold many active tasks at the same time, or often pick up a smartphone with dirty hands due to the nature of their profession or lifestyle, it will not be the most successful purchase.

What is a good and inexpensive smartphone? Review of three ultra-budget models

A stylish entry-level gadget is the LG Leon. Reviews about this device, its hardware and software specifications are the subject of this article. Well, based on its strengths and weaknesses, recommendations regarding its acquisition will be given.

Who is this gadget for?

The price, hardware and software components of this phone clearly indicate that it belongs to entry-level solutions or, as they are also called, budget class. It doesn’t have any special feature, for example, in the form of a curved display. But there is a full set of the most popular functions today. The design of this device is typical for a series of mobile phones from this manufacturer for this year. The most interesting color option for the case is the LG Leon H324 Titan. Reviews highlight it as the most striking and unusual.

Device delivery set

An entry-level device initially cannot boast of good equipment. It includes a minimum set of components, which only ensures the minimum level of device performance, and there is absolutely nothing superfluous in it. And the equipment for this gadget is as follows:

  • Actually the device itself with the battery installed.
  • Standard charger with USB output port.
  • Universal interface cord for charging the battery or synchronizing with a PC.
  • Guide to using the device.

As noted earlier, the body of this gadget can be of three colors: gold, titanium and white. They all pick up dirt easily. And it’s not particularly difficult to damage them; the LG Leon H324 Titan especially stands out in this regard. Reviews certainly confirm this. Therefore, to eliminate this kind of problem, you must immediately after purchase purchase a protective film and stick it together with the case. Also, the owner of such a device needs to additionally purchase an external drive. Well, a stereo headset would also be useful. Without it, the radio will not work.

Appearance

Most of the front panel of this gadget is occupied by a 4.5-inch display. Above it there is a speaker, touch elements and for video calls. Below the display there is a plastic strip with the manufacturer's logo. But the control panel has been moved to the bottom of the screen and consists of 4 buttons: in addition to the three standard ones, there is also an additional one, which allows you to quickly switch between active SIM cards. There is an audio port on the top edge of the smartphone, and MicroUSB on the bottom. On the back cover there are volume control and lock buttons. There is also a peephole for the main camera and an LED backlight for it. As noted earlier, there are three color options for this device: white, titanium and gold. Users highlight the LG Leon H324 Titan smartphone. Reviews indicate its unusual color. Well, the “Gold” version is very much reminiscent of last year’s “Apple” gadget in color.

CPU

A reliable and energy-efficient processor is installed in the LG Leon. Reviews highlight its low level of performance. You can't expect anything more from a CPU introduced two years ago. All this is MT6582 from MediaTek. It includes 4 computing modules of the “A7” architecture. When solving the most complex problems, the frequency of each of them can be increased to 1.3 GHz. This is quite enough to solve most tasks: reading books, listening to music and radio, playing videos, navigating, and so on. It can handle even the simplest games without any problems. But the latest generation of 3D games with the most serious requirements for the hardware of a smartphone will not run on this device: there is not enough computing power on the CPU.

Display and video accelerator

Of course, the screen is one of the main advantages that the LG Leon smartphone can boast of compared to its competitors. Reviews highlight its excellent quality. The display matrix is made using True IPS technology. Accordingly, color rendering, viewing angles and energy efficiency do not cause any complaints. Another advantage of the screen is the absence of an air gap between the touch surface of the front panel and the screen matrix. The display resolution in this case is 854x480. The pixel density is 220 ppi, making it quite difficult to distinguish an individual pixel. That is, the image on the display is quite high quality. To process graphic information, this device is equipped with a Mali-400MP2 graphics card. Of course, it can no longer boast of high performance, but it is quite enough to unload the central processor, which, because of this, is engaged only in program calculations and is not “distracted” by graphic information.

Cameras

The quality of photos and videos of the main camera can be called acceptable. It has a 5 megapixel sensor. There is also an autofocus system and an LED flash. Accordingly, her photographs come out of good quality. But the front camera in this device is really modest. It has a sensor of only 0.3 megapixels. This is enough to make video calls. But you can’t expect anything more from her.

Memory

The memory subsystem in the LG Leon raises the most questions. Reviews indicate a lack of RAM. There is only 768 MB of it here. Moreover, about 500 MB of them are occupied by system processes. The user can only count on 268 MB. For one or two simple applications this will be enough. Well, if you try to run more programs, the phone will slow down a lot. A definite solution to the lack of RAM may be to install a special program to clean it regularly. But it would still be better if the gadget had 1 GB. The capacity of the built-in storage is 4 GB. About half of them are filled with system software. The remaining volume is clearly not enough for comfortable work. Therefore, the owner of a “smart” smartphone cannot do without an external flash drive. Its capacity in this case can reach 32 GB.

Autonomy

The capacity of the included battery in this gadget is 1900 mAh. Taking into account the device's display diagonal of 4.5 inches, a fairly energy-efficient processor and the inability to run resource-intensive applications, the given battery capacity is enough for 2 days of battery life at an average level of load on the device. With a more intensive level of use of a smart phone, the given value will be enough for a day. If you reduce the load on the gadget, you can get three days of battery life. These are very modest figures today. An external additional battery may be a definite solution to this problem, but it will have to be purchased separately for an additional fee. This is a significant disadvantage, but in this case this gadget will not let you down under any circumstances.

Interface kit

The LG Leon phone is equipped with a typical list of interfaces. Reviews highlight the following:

  • Wi-Fi is the main way to receive and send information on the Internet.
  • Bluetooth is an ideal means of connecting wireless headphones and exchanging information with other smartphones.
  • GPS allows you to easily turn this smart phone into a navigator.
  • Full support for all currently existing mobile networks, including 4G.
  • Wired interfaces are represented by MicroUSB and 3.5 mm Audio Jack ports.

Software

One of the most recent versions, numbered 5.0, of the Android operating system was installed on the LG Leon H324 smartphone. Reviews highlight this plus. But this raises a rather significant problem: outdated hardware and new system software are not compatible. It is impossible to unlock the full potential of the latest version of Android on such a 32-bit chip. And the amount of RAM of 768 MB leads to the fact that even such simple applications as “Phone Book” and “SMS” “slow down” on this device. Of course, a certain optimization of the software code on this device has been performed, but this is clearly not enough to solve the problem with the lack of hardware resources. "MT6582" was perfect for version 4.4, but for 5.0 it is no longer enough. And this is already a miscalculation of Korean engineers.

How much can you buy it for now?

Today, the price of a smartphone at $110 indicates that the cost of this device is significantly overestimated. A device with similar or even better hardware parameters, but from a less famous brand, is priced at $80. For example, the Dodgee X5 boasts almost the same parameters (the difference in the amount of RAM is 1 GB versus 768 MB and the presence of an air gap between the sensor and the screen), but at the same time it costs $30 less. This difference is critical for a budget-class smartphone; a potential buyer of such a device will certainly not overpay an additional 30 dollars for the brand.
