Review of remote computer control programs. Remote access to a computer via the Internet

Good afternoon

In today's article I would like to focus on remote control of a computer running Windows 7, 8, 8.1. In general, such a task can arise in a variety of circumstances: for example, helping relatives or friends set up a computer if they do not understand it well; organize remote assistance at the company (enterprise, department) so that you can quickly solve user problems or simply monitor them (so that they don’t play or go through “contacts” during working hours), etc.

You can remotely control your computer with dozens of programs (or maybe even hundreds, such programs appear like “mushrooms after the rain”). In this article we will focus on some of the best. So, let's begin…

Team Viewer

This is one of the best programs for remote PC control. Moreover, it has a number of advantages in relation to similar programs:

It is free for non-commercial use;

Allows you to share files;

Has a high degree of protection;

The computer will be controlled as if you were sitting at it!

When installing a program, you can specify what you will do with it: install it to control this computer, or control it and allow it to connect. It is also necessary to indicate what use of the program will be: commercial/non-commercial.

Once Team Viewer is installed and launched, you can get started.

To connect to another computer need to:

Install and run the utilities on both computers;

Enter the ID of the computer you want to connect to (usually 9 digits);

Then enter the access password (4 digits).

If the data is entered correctly, you will see the “desktop” of the remote computer. Now you can work with it as if it were your “desktop”.

The Team Viewer program window is the desktop of the remote PC.

R admin

One of the best programs for administering computers on a local network and for providing assistance and support to users of this network. The program is paid, but there is a trial period of 30 days. At this time, by the way, the program works without restrictions in any functions.

The principle of operation is similar to Team Viewer. The Radmin program consists of two modules:

Radmin Viewer is a free module with which you can manage computers on which the server version of the module is installed (see below);

Radmin Server is a paid module that is installed on the PC that will be managed.

A mmyy Admin

A relatively new program (but about 40,0000 people around the world have already become familiar with it and started using it) for remote control of computers.

Main advantages:

Free for non-commercial use;

Easy setup and use even for novice users;

High degree of security of transmitted data;

Compatible with all popular operating systems Windows XP, 7, 8;

Works with installed Firewall, via proxy.

Window for connecting to a remote computer. Ammyy Admin

RMS - remote access

A good and free program (for non-commercial use) for remote computer administration. Even novice PC users can use it.

Main advantages:

Firewalls, NAT, firewalls will no longer prevent you from connecting to your PC;

High speed of the program;

There is a version for Android (now you can control your computer from any phone).

Remote access is an excellent tool if you need to help a person who is far away with a computer, or urgently view work files from home. Let's look at what programs you can use for this, how to configure them and use them in your work.

What is remote access

Remote access is a technology that allows a user to connect to a computer at a distance using another device and control it as if he were sitting at that computer. This could be connecting to a work machine from home, or helping a friend install programs - there are many options. The main condition is that both devices have Internet access and a special program.

There are many programs for organizing remote access, both complex and very simple, some of which we will try to highlight.

A device in a remote access network can play two roles:

  • host - a computer to which access is provided (for example, a work computer on which you need to work from home);
  • client - a machine that accesses other devices.

The same computer in different situations can be used both as a host and as a client - but not at the same time.

Each device is assigned its own identifier - a label with which devices “find” each other on the network. In most cases, the connection happens like this: the client is given a host identifier, it finds it on the network and connects to it, giving the user access. For security purposes, a unique one-time password may also be required, which is visible only to the host: this is done so that an untrusted person cannot connect to the computer.

Some programs use a generated unique ID number as an identifier, some prefer to use an IP address and a domain name. We will look at both.

Remote access via ID

First, let's talk about programs that operate on IDs. They are quite easy to use and suitable for the household needs of ordinary users, but they are not without their drawbacks.

AeroAdmin

One of the advantages of the AeroAdmin program is its intuitive interface.

Although all the main functions of the program are available in the free version, if necessary, you can purchase a license that gives access to additional functionality, including:

  • exchanging files with a remote computer;
  • contact book;
  • interface customization (for example, you can add a logo and company name to the utility interface).

The AeroAdmin program can also be used for parental control and remote monitoring of a child’s or employee’s computer, conducting online seminars, presentations and meetings.

TeamViewer

TeamViewer is the most popular and widely used remote access software. It has quite a lot of functions, but is easy to use and convenient. There are paid and free versions: the free version limits the number of connections that can be made by one client.

On the main page there is an ID, password, a window for logging into your account, a window for entering the host ID and a large “Connect” button. In other words, all the data to use the program both as a host (left side of the window) and as a client (right side).

On the main page of the TeamViewer program you can find out your data as a host, or you can connect to someone as a client

To connect, you need to select a mode (remote control, file transfer, VPN), enter the ID of the required host and click on the “Connect” button, then enter the password that you need to obtain from the host (since the password is displayed only there). The password is unique for each session: when TeamViewer is restarted, it will change if the user has not specified a static password in the settings. This is done for connection security purposes.

In addition to simple remote connection, the program supports:

  • audio conferences;
  • screenshots and video recording of what is happening on the remote screen;
  • remote printing;
  • transferring files from host to client and back;
  • chat between host and client;
  • ability to swap host and client;
  • Wake-on LAN;
  • reboot followed by auto-connection.

In short, TeamViewer has great capabilities, and its main disadvantage is its limited use for home use. If the program thinks you're using it too much for a casual user and connecting to too many hosts (the free version supports up to five different devices), it will start dropping remote sessions five minutes after it's established. This is extremely inconvenient, and therefore it is not recommended to use TeamViewer for too many devices unless you want to buy an expensive paid version.

Ammyy Admin

Ammyy is another remote access program that is characterized by its simplicity and minimalism.

It has fewer functions than TeamViewer, but it is perfect for people who do not have special functionality requirements: Ammyy is simple and very convenient, and it is also free.

The program interface is similar to the previous one: there is a window, the window contains your data as a host and a form for connecting other computers. You can connect either by ID or IP.

The main Ammyy Admin window provides the opportunity to both connect your computer to the client and become a client yourself

Unlike TeamViewer, Ammyy Admin does not require a password: instead, it requires the host to confirm consent to connect. Without the consent of the host, the communication session will not begin.

Ammyy waits for the host to give permission to connect

The main disadvantage is the same as that of TeamViewer: the free version involves limitations in using the program, which can only be eliminated by purchasing the full version.

LiteManager

The third program that provides access by ID is LiteManager - a Russian program built on the basis of a utility from Microsoft, now closed. In the same way, dividing into a free and paid version, LiteManager provides “free” users with much more opportunities than previous programs: for example, you can connect not 5 computers to your client, but all 30. Such loyalty makes the program attractive not only for ordinary users, but also for administrators of small networks.

Unlike other considered tools, LiteManager consists of two components that are installed separately from each other: a client part (installed on the client machine) and a server part (respectively, on the host).

When installing the server part, a password is set for it, which is subsequently used by the client to connect to the host.

The client interface differs from previous programs and is more reminiscent of a virtual machine manager window. In him a list of connected devices is indicated, each of which can be launched using the mouse.

The LiteManager interface displays connected devices that can be launched with a mouse click

The capabilities of LiteManager in some ways duplicate the functionality of TeamViewer and even exceed it. You can connect via IP or ID; There's also a handy mapping feature called a network map. With its help, you can present all the computers involved in the network in the form of a map that displays the connection of the hosts to the client, as well as connected printers and other devices.

Network map in LiteManager is an opportunity to view connected devices in the form of a map

Remote access using IP address

Here everything is a little more complicated. The fact is that the IP address of an ordinary user is dynamic, that is, it changes regularly, and if you need to constantly connect via IP, it will be very inconvenient to configure the program again each time. Therefore, to take full advantage of remote access via IP, you must activate a static IP service. This is done by the provider and costs about 200 rubles per month (prices may vary depending on the provider).

After connecting to the service, you will be given a static (unchanging) IP, and you will be able to use a remote connection. However, the service should be used at your own peril and risk: for an ordinary PC user, a static address, due to its less security, can cause problems.

As an alternative, you can use the DynDNS service, which, for a fee, provides the user with a virtual server - the connection will go through it. However, such a service is more expensive than static IP.

When a static IP is received, you need to open the port necessary for the program to work.

  1. First, find out the internal IP address of the network. To do this, go to “Start - Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center -<ваша сеть>- Information." The line “IPv4 Address” is your internal IP address. Remember it, it will come in handy later.

    In the properties of the network connection you can find the value of the internal IP address

  2. Enter the router menu. To do this, type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of your browser (or, if it doesn’t work, 192.168.1.1) and enter your login and password on the page that appears. The necessary data is indicated on the router, but, as a rule, the login and password are admin/admin.

    The router will require a login and password for access (usually admin/admin)

  3. The required menu in different models of routers is called completely differently: Virtual Server, Port Forwarding, “Network Address Translation”, “Port Forwarding”... There are so many names that you will have to act either with the help of the documentation for your router, or at random. Find the required menu and create a new rule: in the window that appears, specify the name, the interface used by your connection, the internal IP address of your network and the port. The Radmin program we will be working with uses port 4899 by default.

    The desired location in the router may look like this (or maybe completely different)

Now that the settings have been applied, it's time to move on to the program itself.

Radmin

For a long time (before the advent of TeamViewer and other systems using ID) the Radmin program was the leader among remote access systems. It is very lightweight, undemanding to system restrictions (therefore it works well on older computers), and also provides high connection speed. However, this program only works via an IP address.

Radmin consists of client and server parts, and after installation it will require some configuration.

  1. In “Radmin Server Settings” you need to find the “Access Rights” item. First, the program will prompt you to select a security system: you must select Radmin if the connection will be made over the Internet, or Windows NT if you will use a local network. After this, you need to click on “Access Rights”.

Programs for remote computer access are gradually becoming common among many users. Thanks to such programs, you can easily connect to the computer of a friend, work colleague or relative via the Internet or local network. You don't have to hang on the phone and explain how to set up your computer.

You can do everything yourself without wasting time on explanations over the phone. Programs for remote computer access are often used for remote work. When you can connect to an office PC from home, from the office you can easily access a computer located at home or administer an entire fleet of computers, for example, a large company.

There are quite a lot of programs that allow you to connect remotely to a PC; there are both paid and free utilities that differ from each other in their capabilities and purpose. Therefore, we will consider the most popular programs, and you, in turn, choose the one that suits you.

AeroAdmin is a program for remote access to a computer via the Internet and local network. No installation or configuration required to get started. The size of the .exe file is approximately 2MB. AeroAdmin is ready to connect immediately after downloading and launching. This is an ideal tool for spontaneous technical support, because... Minimum steps are required to establish the first connection.

To connect to a remote PC, you need to download and run AeroAdmin on the admin and remote client PCs. A unique ID number will be generated on each side. Next, the administrator connects to the remote client using its ID. The client accepts the connection (like a phone call) and the administrator takes control of the computer.

It is possible to establish connections using a password, which is convenient for managing computers without the presence of a person on the remote computer.

Pros of the program:

  • The free version can be used for personal and commercial purposes
    • You can transfer files securely
    • Bypasses Firewall and NAT
    • Built-in SOS messaging system available for support team
    • There is uncontrolled access
    • Remote reboot of Windows is possible (including in safe mode)
  • AES + RSA encryption
  • Two-factor authentication
  • Unlimited parallel sessions
  • You can create your own branded file with preset rights

Disadvantages of the program:

  • No text chat
  • Supports Windows OS only (can run under MacOS and Linux under WINE)

Programs for remote computer access – TeamViewer

TeamViewer is probably one of the most popular programs for remote access to a computer via the Internet. This program is used by a huge number of people who have managed to appreciate its capabilities. In order to download and install it, you can simply download a special version and run it. No installation is required in this case. To connect to a remote computer you will need a special code called “Partner ID”, as well as a password. The owner of the remote computer should tell you all this data by looking at it in the main program window.

Note! TeamViewer must be installed on both computers.

Pros of the program:

The program provides the user with several modes of operation: remote control, downloading and uploading files, communication via chat, demonstration of the desktop of your computer, round-the-clock access to the computer. The program has support for all popular platforms, so you can control your computer even from your smartphone. The program has good speed, as well as a bunch of settings.

Disadvantages of the program:

Probably the biggest drawback for many users is that the program is free for non-commercial use only. Because of this, if you do not buy the full version, then if you use it for more than five minutes, the program will break the connection and block further connections for a while. The cost of the full version of the program is quite high. Accordingly, if you are going to use the program not often, then it is ideal for you. If you want to administer a whole fleet of computers, you will have to pay a tidy sum.

Remote access with Ammyy admin

Ammyy admin is a simplified analogue of TeamViewer. The program has only the most basic functions: remote control, remote screen viewing, file transfer and chat. In order to work with this program you do not need to install it. It will be enough to launch. Connection also occurs using a unique ID code and password.

Pros of the program:

The program is quite lightweight and easy to use. Ammyy admin does not require installation, but at the same time performs all the necessary functions. Able to work both on a local network and on the Internet. Suitable for beginners.

Disadvantages of the program:

The developers have provided the opportunity to use the program free of charge only for non-commercial use. If you work in the program for more than 15 hours, the session will be blocked. Accordingly, if you want to administer even a small office, you will have to pay, and some difficulties may arise due to the small functionality of the program.

Programs for remote access to a computer Ammyy admin are ideal for home use, for connecting relatives or friends to the computer.

Remote administration using Radmin

Radmin is a fairly old program for remote access to a computer. It is most suitable for system administration of a fleet of computers on the same network, since connections to computers occur using IP addresses. The program consists of two utilities: Radmin Viewer and Radmin Host. The host is installed on all computers you want to connect to. The user will only need to tell you the IP address of the PC. You will use Radmin Viewer to connect. The program is paid, but it provides a 30-day trial period to familiarize yourself with the capabilities.

Pros of the program:

The program has excellent operating speed and allows you to securely connect to a remote computer. Allows you to connect to the BIOS of a remote computer using Intel AMT technology. It has all the necessary operating modes: control, file transfer, chat, etc.

Disadvantages of the program:

The program can only work on IP addresses. Accordingly, you will not be able to connect by ID. The program is paid and is not suitable for home use. Since its focus is more on remote administration.

Radmin is a good solution for system administrators. With its help you can manage remote computers and servers located on the same network. To work using the Internet, you need to set up a VPN network.

Let's summarize.

Today we looked at programs for remote computer control. I have given a brief overview of the most popular programs. This list can be supplemented with a dozen more utilities, but they are not so popular. Now you can easily select the program you like and use it to remotely connect to the computers of friends, relatives and work colleagues.

Remote desktop software, more accurately called remote access software or remote control software, allows you to control one computer remotely from another. By remote control, we really mean remote control - you can take your mouse and keyboard and use the computer you're connected to just like your own.

Remote desktop software is truly useful for a variety of situations, from helping your dad who lives 500 miles away work through a computer problem, to remotely managing from your office in New York the dozens of servers you run in a Singapore data center!

Typically, accessing a computer remotely requires installing a piece of software on the computer you want to connect to, called host. Once this is done, another computer or device with the correct credentials, called client, can connect to the host and control it.

Don't let the technical aspects of remote desktop software scare you away. The best free remote access programs listed below require no more than a few clicks to get started—no special computer knowledge required.

Note. Remote Desktop is also the actual name of the built-in remote access tool in Windows operating systems. It is ranked alongside other tools, but we believe there are several remote control programs that do a better job.

Remote access programs:

TeamViewer

TeamViewer is the best free remote access software I've ever used. There are a ton of features that are always great, but also very easy to install. No changes to router or firewall configurations are required.

With support for video, voice calls and text chat, TeamViewer also allows you to transfer files, supports Wake-on-LAN (WOL), can remotely monitor a user's iPhone or iPad screen, and even remotely reboot the PC into safe mode and then reconnect automatically.

Host side

The computer you want to connect to with TeamViewer can be a Windows, Mac or Linux computer.

Full, installable version TeamViewer is an option here and is probably a safe bet if you're not sure what to do. A portable version called TeamViewer QuickSupport, is an excellent choice if the computer you want to remotely control will only need to be used once or if installing software on it is not possible. Third option - TeamViewer Host is the best choice if you will be connecting to this computer regularly.

Client side

TeamViewer has several options for connecting to the computer you want to control.

Installable and portable programs are available for Windows, Mac and Linux, as well as mobile apps for iOS, BlackBerry, Android and Windows Phone. Yes—that means you can use your phone or tablet to connect to your remote-controlled computers on the go.

TeamViewer also allows you to use a web browser to access your computer remotely.

A number of other features are also included, such as the ability to share one application window with someone else (instead of the entire desktop) and the ability to print remote files to a local printer.

I suggest trying TeamViewer before any other program on this list.

The complete list of supported desktop operating systems for TeamViewer includes Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, 2000, Windows Server 2012/2008/2003, Windows Home Server, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS.

Ammyy Admin

Ammyy Admin is a free, fast and easy way to get remote access and remote desktop solution for both individuals and businesses. Unlike powerful remote desktop software, the tool comes as a tiny application under 1 MB. In addition to connecting to another system remotely, you can also perform actions such as file transfer and chat. Windows supported, secure connection and easy software management make Ammyy Adminn one of the most preferred free remote desktop clients.

While it's free for non-commercial use, the Starter, Premium, and Corporate licensed tools are priced at $33.90, $66.90, and $99.90, respectively.

AnyDesk is a remote desktop program that can be portable or installed like a regular program.

Host side

Launch AnyDesk on the PC you want to connect to and record AnyDesk-Address, or a custom alias if configured.

When the client connects, the host will be asked to allow or deny the connection, as well as manage permissions, such as allowing audio, clipboard, and the ability to block host keyboard/mouse control.

Client side

On another computer, launch AnyDesk, and then enter the AnyDesk host address or alias in the " Remote desk" on the screen.

If automatic access is configured, the client does not need to wait for the host to accept the connection.

AnyDesk automatically updates and can enter full screen mode, balance connection quality and speed, transfer files and audio, sync the clipboard, record a remote session, run keyboard shortcuts, take screenshots of the remote computer, and restart the host computer.

AnyDesk works with Windows (10 to XP), MacOS and Linux.

AeroAdmin is perhaps the most simple program for free remote access. There are virtually no settings, and everything is fast and precise, which is ideal for spontaneous support.

Host side

AeroAdmin is very similar to the TeamViewer program that tops this list. Just open the portable program and share your IP address or ID data with someone else. This is how the client computer will know how to connect to the host.

Client side

The client PC simply needs to run the same AeroAdmin program and enter the ID or IP address into their program. Before connecting, you can select " View only" or " Remote control" and then simply select " To plug" to request the remote control.

When the host computer confirms the connection, you can start controlling the computer, sharing clipboard text, and transferring files.

It's great that AeroAdmin is completely free for both personal and commercial use, but it's too bad that it doesn't include a chat option.

Another note to make is that although AeroAdmin is 100% free, it limits the number of hours you can use per month.

AeroAdmin can be installed on 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 10, 8, 7 and XP.

RemotePC

Pros: Simple, straightforward interface with a flat learning curve. Fast performance. Easily transfer files between local and remote desktops. Inexpensive.

Minuses: Cannot display more than one remote monitor in the same window.

RemotePC is one of the best remote access apps that offers identical features on PCs and Macs, fast performance, and a minimal yet intuitive interface.

Remote Utilities is a free remote access program with some really great features. It works by linking two remote computers together with what they call an "Internet ID". You can control a total of 10 PCs using Remote Utilities.

Host side

Install part of the remote utilities called " Host on a Windows PC" to have constant access to it. You also have the option to run Agent, which provides native support without installing anything—it can even be run from a flash drive.

The host computer is given an Internet ID which they must use in order for the client to establish a connection.

Client side

Program Viewer used to connect to host or agent software.

The viewer can be loaded on its own or in a combo file Viewer + Host. You can also download the portable version of Viewer if you don't want to install anything.

Connecting the viewer to the host or agent is done without any changes to the router, such as port forwarding, making setup simpler. The customer simply needs to enter an online identification number and password.

There are also client apps that can be downloaded for free for iOS and Android users.

With the viewer, you can use various modules so that you can access your computer remotely without even viewing the screen, although screen viewing is definitely the main feature of Remote Utilities.

Some of the Remote Utilities modules are: Remote Task Manager, File Transfer, Power Management for Remote Reboot or WOL, Remote Terminal (Command Line Access), Remote File Launch, System Information Manager, Text Chat, Remote Registry Access, and Remote View webcams.

In addition to these features, Remote Utilities also supports remote printing and multi-monitor viewing.

Unfortunately, configuring Remote Utilities can be confusing on the host computer, as there are many different options.

Remote utilities can be installed on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP, as well as on Windows Server 2012, 2008 and 2003.

Another remote access program is UltraVNC. UltraVNC works a bit like Remote Utilities, where server And viewer installed on two PCs and the viewer is used to manage the server.

Host side

When you install UltraVNC you are asked if you want to install Server , Viewer or both. Install the server on the PC you want to connect to.

You can install UltraVNC Server as a system service so that it always works. This is ideal so you can always connect to it using client software.

Client side

To establish a connection to the UltraVNC server, you must install the Viewer part during setup.

Once you set up port forwarding on your router, you can access the UltraVNC server from anywhere using an Internet connection - either through a mobile device that supports VNC connections, a PC with a viewer installed, or an Internet browser. All you need is the server's IP address to establish the connection.

UltraVNC supports file transfer, text chat, clipboard sharing, and can even boot and connect to a server in safe mode.

The download page is a bit confusing - first select the latest version of UltraVNC, then select the 32-bit or 64-bit installer that will work with your version of Windows.

Users of Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and Windows Server 2012, 2008 and 2003 can install and use UltraVNC.

Windows Remote Desktop

Windows Remote Desktop is remote access software built into the Windows operating system. No additional download is required to use the program.

Host side

To enable connecting to your computer using Windows Remote Desktop, you must open Settings system properties(accessible via Control Panel) and allow remote connections through a specific Windows user via the " Remote ».

You really must configure the router to forward ports so another computer can connect to it from the network side, but this is usually not a big hassle to complete.

Client side

Another computer that wants to connect to the host computer must simply open the already installed software to connect to remote desktop and enter the host's IP address.

Advice. You can open Remote Desktop from the Launch dialog box (open it using the shortcut Windows Key + R); just enter Mstsc command to run it.

Most of the other programs on this list have features that Windows Remote Desktop doesn't, but this remote access method seems to be the most natural and easiest way to control the mouse and keyboard of a remote Windows PC.

Once everything is set up, you can transfer files, print to a local printer, listen to audio from a remote PC, and transfer clipboard contents.

Remote Desktop Availability

Windows Remote Desktop can be used on Windows from XP to Windows 10.

However, while all versions of Windows can connect to other computers with inbound connections enabled, not all versions of Windows can act as a host (i.e., accept incoming remote access requests).

If you are using version Home Premium or below, your computer can only act as a client and therefore cannot be deleted remotely (but it can access other computers remotely).

Incoming remote access is only allowed for professional, corporate And final Windows versions. In these editions, others can be deleted into the computer as described above.

Something else to remember is that Remote Desktop will log out the user if they are logged in when someone connects to that user's account remotely. This is very different from any other program on this list - everyone else can remotely connect to a user's account while the user is still actively using the computer.

Chrome Remote Desktop is an extension for the Google Chrome browser that allows you to set up your computer for remote access from any other computer running Google Chrome.

Host side

The way this works is that you install the extension in Google Chrome and then provide authorization to remotely access that PC using a personal PIN that you create yourself.

To do this, you need to log into your Google account, such as your Gmail or YouTube account information.

Client side

To connect to the host browser, sign in to Chrome Remote Desktop through another web browser (it must be Chrome) using the same Google credentials or using a temporary passcode generated by the host computer.

Since you are logged in, you can easily see the other PC name from where you can simply select it and start the remote session.

Chrome Remote Desktop (copy and paste only) doesn't have the same file sharing or chat features you see in similar programs, but it's very easy to set up and lets you connect to your computer (or anyone) from anywhere using just your web browser.

Moreover, you can work remotely on the computer when the user is not opening Chrome, or even when they are completely logged out of the user account.

Because Chrome Remote Desktop runs entirely within the Google Chrome browser, it can work with any operating system that uses Chrome, including Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebooks.

Seecreen (formerly called Firnass) is an extremely tiny (500KB) but powerful free remote access program that is ideal for instant, on-demand support.

Host side

Open the program on the computer you want to monitor. After creating an account and logging in, you can add other users to the menu by their email address or username.

Adding a client to the Without Participation section allows them to have automatic access to the computer.

Client side

To connect to the host computer using Seecreen, another user needs to enter the host ID and password.

Screen sharing must be initiated from the client computer.

Seecreen does not support clipboard synchronization.

Seecreen is a JAR file that uses Java to run. All versions of Windows are supported, as well as Mac and Linux operating systems

LiteManager is another remote access program, and it is strikingly similar to the one we talk about above.

However, unlike Remote Utilities, which can only control 10 PCs, LiteManager supports up to 30 slots for storage and connection to remote computers, and has many useful features.

Host side

The computer you want to access must install the program LiteManager ProServer.msi(it's free) which is included in the downloaded ZIP file.

There are many ways to provide connectivity to a host computer. This can be done using an IP address, computer name, or ID.

The easiest way to set this up is to right-click the server program in the taskbar notification area, select " , erase content that already exists, and click " Connected" to create a new ID.

Client side

Another program called Viewer is installed to connect the client to the host. After the host computer has issued the ID, the client must enter it from the " Connect by ID" on the menu " Compound", to establish a remote connection with another computer.

Once connected, the client can do all sorts of things using Remote Utilities, such as working with multiple monitors, transferring files in the background, gaining full control or read-only access on another PC, running a remote task manager, running files and programs remotely , record audio, edit registry, create demos, lock another person's screen and keyboard, and text chat.

There is also a QuickSupport option, which is a portable program for servers and viewers that makes the connection much faster than the above method.

I tested LiteManager on Windows 10, but it should also work fine on Windows 8, 7, Vista and XP. This program is also available for macOS.

Comodo Unite is another free remote access program that creates a secure VPN connection between multiple computers. Once the VPN is established, you can remotely access applications and files through the client software.

Host side

Install Comodo Unite on the computer you want to control, and then create an account with Comodo Unite. Account is how you keep track of the PCs you add to your account, so it's easy to connect.

Client side

To connect to the Comodo Unite host computer, simply install the same software and then log in with the same username and password. You can then simply select the computer you want to monitor and start your VPN session immediately.

Files can only be shared when you start a chat, so it's not as easy to share files with Comodo Unite as it is with other remote desktop programs on this list. However, the chat is protected in VPN, which you cannot find in similar software.

Only Windows 7, Vista and XP (32-bit and 64-bit) are officially supported, but I was able to get Comodo Unite to function the same as it does on Windows 10 and Windows 8.

Note. Comodo Unite has been replaced by Comodo ONE, but it is still available for download and is more suitable for most people.

ShowMyPC is a portable and free remote access program that is almost identical to UltraVNC (number 3 on this list) but uses a password to connect instead of an IP address.

Host side

Launch ShowMyPC on any computer and then select " Show my computer" to obtain a unique identification number called common password .

Client side

Open the same ShowMyPC program on another computer and enter the ID from the main program to establish a connection. Instead, the customer can enter the number on the ShowMyPC website (in the "View PC" field) and launch the Java version of the program in their browser.

There are additional options here that are not available in UltraVNC, such as using a webcam through a web browser and scheduled meetings, which allow someone to connect to your PC via a personal web link that launches the Java version of ShowMyPC.

ShowMyPC clients can only send a limited number of keyboard shortcuts to the host computer.

Select ShowMyPC Free on the download page to get the free version. It works on all versions of Windows.

join.me is a remote access program from the makers of LogMeIn that allows you to quickly access another computer through an Internet browser.

Host side

A person requiring remote assistance can download and run join.me software, which allows the entire computer or just a selected application to be displayed to the remote viewer. This is done by choosing launch buttons.

Client side

The remote viewer simply needs to enter the personal join.me code into their own installation under connections .

join.me supports full screen, conference calling, text chat, multiple monitors, and allows you to view up to 10 participants simultaneously.

The customer can instead visit the join.me home page to enter the code for the host computer without having to download any software. The code must be entered in the MEETING CONNECTION field.

All versions of Windows can install join.me, as well as Mac.

Note. Download join.me for free using the small download link below the paid options.

WebEx Free

While it's free for 3 people, paid plans include Premium 8 ($24 per month for eight members), Premium 25 ($49 per month for 25 people), and Premium 100 ($89 per month for up to 100 people).

RD Tabs

The built-in Windows Remote Desktop Connection utility is a bit basic; it offers few options, and multiple connections fill the taskbar, making it difficult to navigate between desktops. If you regularly access multiple remote computers or just want a better remote desktop client, check out RD Tabs from Avian Waves. It uses a tabbed interface to manage open remote connections with familiar functionality similar to existing browsers, keeping everything in one place. But it offers much more than just better organization, with additional features such as password encryption, remote terminal server management, connection thumbnails, and command line scripts.

DWService

DWService is a free, multi-platform (Windows, Linux, Mac, Raspberry) solution that allows users to remotely connect to end-user systems from their computer or mobile device using any browser. It's free for 6 months, then $1.99 per month (individual use) and $60 per year per user.

DesktopNow is a free remote access program from NCH Software. After optionally forwarding the correct port number to the router and registering for a free account, you can access your computer from anywhere via a web browser.

Host side

To access your computer remotely, you must install DesktopNow software.

When the program is launched for the first time, you must enter your email address and password so that you can use the same credentials on the client side to establish the connection.

The host computer can either configure its router to forward the proper port number to itself, or choose cloud access during installation to make a direct connection to the client, bypassing the need for complex forwarding.

It's probably best for most people to use the direct cloud access method to avoid port forwarding issues.

Client side

The client simply needs to access the host through a web browser. If the router has been configured to forward the port number, the client will use the host PC's IP address to connect. If cloud access was selected, a specific link would be provided to the host you would use to connect.

DesktopNow has a good file sharing feature that allows you to upload your shared files remotely into an easy-to-use file browser.

There's no dedicated app for connecting to DesktopNow from a mobile device, so trying to view and control your computer from your phone or tablet can be difficult. However, the site is optimized for mobile phones, making browsing your shared files very easy.

Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP are supported, even 64-bit versions.

Another free and portable remote access program is BeamYourScreen. This program works like some of the others on this list, where the presenter is given an ID number that they must provide to the other user so they can connect to the presenter's screen.

Host side

BeamYourScreen hosts are called hosts, so the program BeamYourScreen for organizers (Portable) is the preferred method that the host computer should use to accept remote connections. It's quick and easy to start screen sharing without having to install anything.

There is also a version that can be installed called BeamYourScreen for organizers (installation) .

Client side

Customers can also install a portable or installable version of BeamYourScreen, but there is a special program BeamYourScreen for participants, which is a small executable that can be run similar to the Organizer Portable.

Enter the host session number in the section session ID programs to join the session.

Once connected, you can control the screen, share text and clipboard files, and chat with text.

BeamYourScreen works with all versions of Windows, as well as Windows Server 2008 and 2003, Mac and Linux.

GoToMyPC

Pros: Simple interface. Works mainly from the browser. Drag and drop file transfer. Desktop icons for remote computers. Smooth support for multiple monitors. Possibility of direct connection to the network or via the Internet.

Minuses: Distracting message from the test server while the computer is booting. Slightly reduced functionality when using a Mac system.

Bottom Line: GoToMyPC is a mature, easy-to-use remote access program with the best available balance between features and ease of use. If you don't need support for Linux or enterprise-level systems, this is the app you want.

VNC Connect

Pros: support several platforms. Relatively simple interface. Fairly inexpensive subscription plans, including a free plan for personal use.

Minuses: separate server and viewer applications make setup confusing. No dragging and dropping of files between the viewing application and the desktop. Do not send one-time invitations from a remote computer.

VNC Connect is rugged, secure and easy to use once you get the hang of it. It has fewer features than other enterprise-level remote access software, but it is also much cheaper.

Microsoft Remote Desktop

Microsoft introduced remote desktop apps for Android and iOS a few years ago, but this one is ideal for accessing Windows computers. It's also free with no usage restrictions, and unlike Chrome Remote Desktop, the setup process is a bit more complicated, but only the first time you go through it.

Where is LogMeIn?

Unfortunately, LogMeIn's free product, LogMeIn Free, is no longer available. It was one of the most popular free remote access services available, so it's too bad it's gone.

LogMeIn also runs join.me, which still works and is listed above.

Surely not every PC user (especially a beginner) knows that a computer can be safely controlled from a distance, and fully! Those. as if you were sitting and working at your own computer, but from a distance, and doing it, for example, from a tablet or another computer. This can be very convenient and, for example, I use this opportunity regularly. Why do I need it? I work a lot on the Internet, but I can’t always sit at my computer. Sometimes I need to go somewhere or see someone, but some urgent matter comes up and I need my computer to open some program, run something, look at something. Carrying a computer with you always and everywhere is very problematic. It weighs about 4 kg, which feels good when carrying it :) But on the other hand, I always have a tablet or smartphone with me, from which I can connect to my computer at any time and from anywhere, which I leave turned on at home. And this way, I can work on it just as if I were at home. Another reason for remote access is the ability to ask a friend or colleague to help you sort out any problems in the settings or programs on your computer through remote access. You yourself can also help someone solve some problem on their computer by connecting remotely to this person. And one last thing... It happens that the computer you need is in a hard-to-reach place or you need to go to it. In this case, the easiest way is to connect to it remotely and you’re done!

This article of mine will talk about how to remotely control a computer from any device, and with the help of this guide you will learn how to do it easily even if you are a complete beginner! We will consider the most, in my opinion, convenient program for this matter - TeamViewer, and today I will tell you about its main most necessary and useful functions. Yes, it is also free for non-commercial use! There are only 2 conditions for remote device management: the presence of an Internet connection on both devices, and the presence of the TeamViewer program on both devices.

Today, the TeamViewer program is supported, one might say, by all devices:

    Smartphones based on Android and Windows Phone 8 operating systems;

    Tablets on the same Android and Windows Phone 8 systems;

    iPad of all modifications;

    Computers based on the operating system Mac, Linux, Windows.

For all these devices, you can download the TeamViewer app for free.

It is also interesting that you can control it the other way around – smartphones and tablets from a desktop computer.

So, let's begin to understand the program step by step, starting with its installation process.

Installing TeaViewer

    First you need to download the program itself. It is best to download from the official website, since the latest version will always be posted there. Go to the official TeamViewer website using the link:

    teamviewer

    At the top of the page that opens, you can’t help but notice the large “Free full version” button. Here we press it:

    After downloading the file, find it on your computer and run it. The file will be named: “TeamViewer_Setup_ru”:

    The next program window will ask you to select the option to use TeamViewer. These settings can be changed at any time after installation. If you want to control this computer (on which you are installing the program) remotely, then immediately select the appropriate item. Otherwise, simply select Install.

    Below, be sure to select the “Personal, non-commercial use” option, since the program is distributed free of charge only for this use case.

    At the end, check the “Show additional settings” box and click the “Accept - Next” button:

    Windows User Account Control may ask you for confirmation to continue with the installation. Just click “Yes”:

    In the next window, check the path where the program will be installed and change it if desired. But I recommend leaving the default path. The options below may not be enabled. All of them, if necessary, can be set after installation. Click the “Finish” button:

    A quick program installation process will begin, which will take from a few seconds to a minute.

This completes the installation of the TeamViewer program! Let's move on to its settings and application.

Setting up TeamViewer

Setting up uncontrolled access to a computer:

Now we can freely control this computer from any other device, no matter where we are within the Internet access zone :) But for this, let’s deal with the information that we (or anyone else) need to know so that we can connect to this computer remotely.

Data required for remote control of any device:

Perhaps the most important thing is to know the data by which you can connect remotely to your current computer.

To connect to this computer from another computer / device with TeamViewer installed, you only need to know:

    ID of this computer;

    Password for accessing this computer via TeamViewer (not to be confused with the password for logging into Windows!).

All this data is located in the main program window:

According to my example (see image above), to remotely access this computer, at the moment I need to specify ID: 900 288 832 and password: 6sx71k on the remote device.

The ID in TeamViewer for each specific computer does not change. Those. the one that is indicated in the window you will always indicate during a remote connection. And there are 2 types of passwords in TeamViewer: temporary (random) and personal (permanent). Now more about this:

I hope you understand the difference in passwords :)

Now let's go through the main most important settings of the program.

Basic program settings:

    To go to all program settings, open the “Advanced” menu at the top and select “Options”:

    We will immediately be taken to the “Main” tab. Here you can enable or disable TeamViewer to automatically start when Windows boots. If you are going to control this computer remotely, then I strongly recommend leaving this item enabled. Then you won’t have to launch TeamViewer manually, and even more so, if you are far away and TeamViewer is not running on this computer, you will not be able to connect to it.

    Below you can see a message that you are linked to the account you created earlier. If you click the "Delete" button, you can break this connection.

    On this tab, there are no more important settings that are not set by default. Go to the next tab “Security”.

    On the “Security” tab we can change the “Personal” password by entering a new one and repeating it at the very top. Below you can set up a “random” password by specifying the number of characters. By default, such a password will always be 6 characters long.

    In the last section, “Rules for connecting to this computer,” you can allow or deny logging in remotely using a Windows password. It is most reliable to leave this parameter set to default, i.e. - "Is not allowed". The easiest way to connect is through a TeamViewer password and it will be safer this way.

    “Remote control” tab. There are important settings here. All these settings are global - i.e. for any connection. But if you have created an account for yourself (as discussed), then for each computer added to your personal list, you can set your own connection parameters, but more on that later.

    This is what the settings on this tab look like:

    At the very top you can adjust the image quality when connecting to a remote computer. It’s better to leave either “Automatic quality selection” or “Optimize speed”. I always set speed optimization to connect to a remote machine and work with virtually no delays, even via mobile Internet. There is only one minus - the image quality (the way we see the remote computer) will not be the best, but sometimes this is not even noticeable.

    Below, as you can see, the “Hide wallpaper on the remote machine” option is enabled. This means that when you connect to a remote computer, the desktop background there will become just black. I always leave this option enabled so as not to waste resources on loading a sometimes large background image.

    Even lower are additional settings that can be configured according to everyone’s preferences. For example, if the “Play computer sounds and music” function is enabled, you will accordingly hear all the sounds of the remote computer.

    It can be useful to enable the “Send keyboard shortcut” option. If you enable this option, then when you connect to a remote computer, you will be able to use your usual keyboard shortcuts. For example, a quick way to open the task manager is “Ctrl+Shift+Esc”.

    In general, here you configure it as you need.

    Let’s go straight to the “Computers and Contacts” tab.

    The “Computers and Contacts” tab will display your account settings, which will then show all the remote computers and users you have added. On this tab you can change your account information, as well as computer display settings.

At this point we have discussed the basic settings. Now let's move on to the main thing - remote computer control.

The principle of remote computer control

We can, as I already said, control a computer or any other device (TeamViewer must also be installed and configured on them!) from any point where there is access to the Internet and we just need to know the ID of the managed device and its password (random or permanent ). Knowing these 2 parameters, we can control the computer.

Let's try to connect to the computer remotely:

    In the main TeamViewer window, where the “Manage Computer” section is located, indicate the ID of the computer that we will manage in the “Partner ID” field.

    If you created an account, then we can immediately add the computer to our “Favorites” list by clicking the button with an asterisk:

    A window for access settings for the computer that we add to the list will open in front of us:

    In the image above, I have marked the fields and lists where it is best to make changes:

    • We specify the password if you know the “personal” password of the remote computer. Otherwise, leave the field blank.

      Specify the network name of the remote computer (for your own convenience). It will appear in the list of your computers.

      If you wish, you can specify a description of the remote computer to be added for convenience if you have a large list of them.

      In the Window list, I selected Full Screen Mode. This means that when connected to a remote computer, TeamViewer will display the remote computer in full screen. It will look like you are fully working on that computer. You can select another option, for example “Windowed Mode”, and then the remote computer will be displayed in the window.

      In the “Quality” list, I always select “Optimize speed” so as not to sacrifice performance, especially when connected to a slow Internet.

      It is better to always set “Identification mode” to “TeamViewer Identification”. Then you will only need to know the password set for a particular computer in the TeamViewer program to connect to it.

    The remaining settings can be left with the “Inherited” value, because, as a rule, there is no need for them and, in extreme cases, they can be configured at any time.

    When the settings are set, click the “OK” button.

    The computers that you will add to your list will be visible in a separate window, as in my example in the image below:

    In the example, I added a computer named “Test TeamViewer”.

    Now that the computer is in the list, to connect to it, simply double-click on its name. If you immediately specified a password, it will not be requested and the connection will occur immediately (within a couple of seconds).

    Another way to quickly connect to a computer, if for some reason you did not create an account and do not add computers to your favorites list, is to simply enter the ID in the appropriate field and click “Connect to partner”:

    The default mode is “Remote Control”, which is what we need. And we can enable the “File Transfer” mode at any time during a remote session.

    Now a window will appear where you need to enter a password to connect to the remote computer:

    Enter the password and click the “Login” button.

    The connection usually occurs in a couple of seconds, but this depends on the speed of the Internet on both sides. After connecting to the remote computer, the window will look like this:

    As you can see, the screen of the remote computer is black. As you probably remember, in the settings we left the “Hide wallpaper on the remote machine” option enabled. As a result, the wallpaper on the remote machine became black, which will reduce resource consumption, and immediately after disconnecting from the remote computer, its desktop wallpaper will return to its previous appearance.

This is how simple and easy it is to connect to a remote computer :)

You will be able to fully control your computer from any distance, and at the same time it will look exactly as if you were sitting at that computer.

Let me remind you once again that the same can be done from almost any device. If you, for example, have an iPad, then download TeamViewer onto it (it’s always free!), enter the ID and password of the remote computer, and that’s it! You will connect and be able to control it directly from your tablet, and it’s also very convenient!

Now let's look at some of the functions available to us during a remote session.

Functions available during a remote computer session using TeamViewer:

So, we are connected to a remote computer. At the top we see a panel with a set of functions. Let's go through the most necessary of them:

    The button numbered “1” allows you to immediately terminate the connection with the remote computer.
    After any termination of a TeamViewer session on both devices, a window will be displayed indicating that the free session has ended. Just always click "OK":

    You can also instantly terminate the connection while on that remote computer. For example, someone remotely helps you set up a system or fixes a problem. If suddenly that person began to do some actions on your computer that, in your opinion, he does not need to do at all, then you can break the connection with just one button in the form of a cross (see image below):

    The button numbered “2” allows you to hide this panel of remote session functions.

    The button numbered “3” allows you to instantly switch to full-screen mode, which I use in 99% of cases.

    A very useful feature is transferring files from a local computer to a remote computer and back. This can be done by simply dragging the necessary files from your computer window to the window of the remote computer.

    Another way is to use a special manager – “File Transfer”. It opens from the same panel that is fixed at the top. Select “File Transfer”, and then “File Transfer” again:

    A special manager will open - Explorer. There is nothing complicated here either. We indicate from which folder on the local computer the file will be transferred, then indicate the folder where exactly the file will be transferred to the remote computer. Then select the file itself on the local computer that we will transfer and click the “Send” button:

    The file will be transferred to the remote computer. In my example, I transferred an image file called "" from the "Downloads" folder to the remote computer's desktop:

    After transferring the necessary data, the file transfer manager can be closed, and a window will be displayed with statistics on the transfer of your files, where you need to click “Close” again:

    Or you can minimize this window.

    There are 3 more very useful features that are available during a remote session. This includes voice communication, video broadcasting and chat support.

    All these 3 functions can be activated by selecting the “Audio/Video” menu:

    Here you can change the scaling, for example, enable full screen mode. Here, in the “Quality” submenu, you can select the quality you want for displaying content on the remote computer, for example, by turning on “Optimize speed”. Also here you can change the resolution of the remote computer (for example, if the resolution of your local computer is very different) and show / hide the wallpaper on the remote machine. Everything else is not so significant and necessary...

Well, that’s probably all the most useful things you need to know about how to remotely control a computer using TeamViewer :) Cool program, isn’t it? :)

The most important thing is that it is extremely simple, convenient, and even a beginner can handle it. And, of course, it’s free! In general, to be honest, I have not seen a better worthy replacement for the TeamViewer program.

And now I think that in a couple of weeks I will already write an article, and you will be able to familiarize yourself with the next testing of the new autoclicker!

Well, now I say goodbye to you for a week... Good luck to you and always have a good mood! ;)
