A few words about the keyboard itself. The process of removing the keyboard from a laptop with your own hands

How to remove an Asus keyboard?

There are times when skills in disassembling electronic equipment are simply necessary. If, for example, a laptop is broken or some parts in it are not working properly, then they can be removed for repair or replacement. The keyboard is no exception, so let's figure out how to remove the keyboard using the example of an Asus laptop.

Removing the keyboard

For work, prepare the following tools and devices:

  • thermal paste;
  • two screwdrivers;
  • brush;
  • plastic card.

Procedure

  1. To remove the keyboard, you must first remove the battery and hard drive and unscrew the bolts from the bottom cover of the device. Typically, laptop lids are held on by two bolts. When it is removed, you need to unscrew the hard drive, which is secured with three bolts. Next, you should pull out the hard drive (hard drive), and to do this you need to unscrew all the fasteners.
  2. Now you should remove the bottom cover of the laptop. It is held on by several bolts in the corners. When this external protection element is removed, you can begin to remove the keyboard. The disassembled laptop must be turned over to its normal position. To remove the keyboard that is held in place by the latches, you need to use a screwdriver, tweezers, or something sharp to pry the latches away.
  3. By lifting the black latch, disconnect the cable that secures the keyboard to the laptop itself. When the keyboard is completely disconnected, you can continue disassembling the laptop further, unscrewing the remaining bolts and removing all the parts gradually.

After the keyboard, you can remove the drive, then the cooling system. To detach the bottom and top covers of the laptop, you need to use a plastic card - slide it along the contour of the entire case.

Using a laptop in everyday life, users sometimes encounter a problem: a key on the keyboard has broken off. The reason could be any factor: cleaning the keyboard, using a vacuum cleaner for cleaning, a stray cat (yes, even this happens), a small child who is interested in everything around him and accidentally breaks a key, and much more. But not everyone knows that this small problem is quite easy to fix.
I'll tell you how to put the button back without loss.

(caution! a lot of photos)

Something has happened and your laptop's keyboard looks like this:

Laptops are all different, but most often their fastening is similar (fastening principle).
The key on the back side looks like this:

We see two pairs of fasteners:
- two latches;
- two grooves for the rocker ears.
The key cover is attached to the keyboard using a special rocker, which consists of 2 parts connected by a hinge in the middle and forming the letter X (ha).

It often happens that the key “breaks out” along with the rocker. In this case, you must first disconnect the rocker from the key cap, install the rocker on the keyboard, and only then return the key to its rightful place.
To do this, take the key, unsnap the latch on one side of the key, and remove the antennae of the rocker and grooves on the other side:

We get 2 parts: a key cover and a rocker.
The keyboard has 3 lugs for fastening: one larger and two smaller.

If for some reason these fasteners are bent (for example, a heavy object fell on the keyboard, as a result of which a key jumped out), they need to be bent into the correct position. Be careful, you cannot bend these fasteners too much, because... They are made of aluminum and break off easily, after which repairs will become much more difficult.

Install the rocker on the keyboard:
- place it under the large mounting eye

Lightly press the rocker onto the 2 small mounts.

After installing the rocker, you can put the key cover back.
- insert the protrusions on the rocker into the grooves of the lid

Here you need to act carefully and not miss :).
Next, making sure that the ears go into the grooves, lightly press the top of the key to secure the key cover,
a slight click will be heard.

Ready! the key is in place.

Large keys (Tab, Shift, space, enter), in addition to a plastic rocker, can have a metal stabilizer for uniform pressing.

There are two additional tabs on the keyboard base to secure this stabilizer. Otherwise the design is the same as described above.

First we wind the ends of the stabilizer.

Then we insert the lower “antennae” of the rocker into the grooves and, with a light press, put the button in place.

The spacebar (and sometimes other long keys) is supported by two rockers and a stabilizer.

In principle, the installation is no different from the above-described installation of the Shift key.

Above we examined the internal structure of the keys of a Hewlett-Packard laptop.

I almost forgot. If a swing, consisting of two parts, was disassembled during an emergency, do not despair. Using a needle, toothpick or other suitable object, it is easy to assemble. We put one side into the groove, and to install the second side we use our auxiliary object.

Now, dear users, you will have no questions:
- How does a laptop keyboard work?

How to replace the keycap?
- what to do if a cat tore out a key on a laptop?
and so on.

P.s. Because there were too many photos, an additional part of the article can be viewed on my blog (if anyone is interested in this topic), where, for example, you can see the devices of the keys of Asus and Apple laptops, some differences and similarities are described.

Have you noticed that balls of dust have literally accumulated under the keyboard buttons, not to mention crumbs and other debris? Are you planning to clean up all this mess? It sounds pretty simple, if you've looked at it before, of course. Didn't you understand? Then you may encounter some difficulties here if you do not have an idea of the process. How to remove a button from a laptop keyboard? Let's find the answer to this question together.

What remains to be done?

First you need to prepare a small set of tools: a stationery knife, a nail file or something similar.

Important! For a comfortable process, the keyboard must be removed from the laptop case.

Before getting down to business, let's talk about some features of the key structure. The buttons have fastenings on which they are fixed, and the fastening itself consists of two parts. These parts are connected by small “whiskers” that extend from the back of the mount and are inserted into a groove. This connection allows the buttons to move freely, otherwise pressing would be problematic.

The optimal solution would be to first remove the vertical fasteners, but before that you need to determine the location of the side of the button on which these fasteners are located. For this:

  1. We just bend the key slightly on one side and try to look under it.
  2. If it doesn’t look like much, then we simply proceed to bend the key on each of its sides until it loosens and comes unfastened.

Often the grooves are located at the top of the button, so we will consider this option:

  1. Take a utility knife and insert it under the button (on the right side).
  2. Next, we make rotational movements in a clockwise direction.
  3. These steps should help you unfasten the key; all you have to do is pull the component a little to the side, and it seems to have been removed.

Important! Do not overdo it with efforts, otherwise you risk damaging the fastening element.

Fastenings

We figured out how to remove the keys from the keyboard, but how to remove the mounts themselves? We continue to consider the option in which the fasteners are located at the top of the key.

You have to do the following:

  1. We take the same knife and insert it between the two components of the fastening element. It is better to place the blade slightly below or above the “mustache”.
  2. We bend the inner part of the component inward and slightly downward so that the “mustache” comes out of the groove and is lower than the part of the fastening that is external.
  3. The fasteners are disconnected, which means they can be pulled out.

If everything is clear about how to remove the keys from a laptop keyboard, then how to put them back in place?

Returning the mounts to the keyboard

If you followed the method described above, then assembly occurs in the reverse order. It may, of course, happen that the parts of the fastenings are mixed up with each other, then it is best to assemble the “constructor” in your hands, and only after that (with the help of a good old stationery knife) mount the finished “rockers” into the metal fastenings that are located on keyboard surface.

If both parts fully fit into each other in a closed state, then you are on the right track.

Returning the keys to their place

We hope that during disassembly of the device no fastening elements were damaged, since we will need them in the same condition:

  • We take the key and place it on its seat. Align the path and press lightly on the component until you hear a click.

Important! Most often, there should be four clicks if the part is attached to four grooves. Carefully inspect the button from all sides.

  • If the button does not budge or refuses to snap into place, then there is a possibility that you have assembled the fastening parts incorrectly. Double-check your work.

Something broke? Do not rush to send the device to a workshop, because you can try to fix the problem on your own.

Keyboard repair at home

To carry out restoration work you will need the following tools:

  • Insulin syringe needle.
  • Soldering iron, preferably thin.
  • Simple wire cutters.
  • Small sized vise.
  • Knife for installation.

You can also get by with a more modest set of accessories:

  • Pile from a brush comb.
  • Sewing needle.
  • Lighter.
  • Pliers or strong tweezers.
  • Technical superglue.

Let's start the repair:

  1. Take the fastening element with the broken metal leg and install it on the workplace.
  2. We take a needle in one hand, and a thin soldering iron in the other.
  3. The needle must be applied to the damaged area. It is desirable that it extends about 2 millimeters onto that part of the part that was not damaged.
  4. We heat the needle with a soldering iron and carefully fuse it into the plastic surface.
  5. Use wire cutters to remove excess plastic. The most important thing is not to overdo it.

Alternative way

If you do not have the tools used in the previous method, you can safely use alternative repair instructions:

  1. Take the needle and heat it with a lighter.
  2. Next, you need to make a groove into which the lint from the comb can be easily inserted (you can use something similar).
  3. We thread the lint through and fix it with a small amount of superglue.
  4. We wait from forty minutes to an hour and check the part for functionality.

With prolonged and even careless use of a laptop, problems with the keys often arise. They may stick, may not press well, and some keys may even break. To solve this problem it is necessary to understand Is it possible to reset keys from a laptop? and how to do it. Looking ahead, we will say that this procedure is simple and there is absolutely no need to run to a service center; everything can be done at home.

How to reset a laptop key and their features

Compared to older device models, current keyboards are equipped with flat keys. Moreover, almost all modern designs have an identical keyboard design. You can’t just unhook the key; most likely you’ll just break the fastening mechanism.

Before how to reset a laptop key you need to prepare a suitable tool. Ideally, it is better to look for a flathead screwdriver with a curved cap; it will make it much easier to work with key latches. It is also worth preparing several toothpicks for many delicate actions.

How to remove keys from a laptop keyboard

Before you begin the removal procedure, you must turn off the device and remove the battery, thereby eliminating the possibility of a short circuit. It is also most convenient to start from the bottom of the keyboard. All manipulations must be performed extremely carefully and without unnecessary effort. By adhering to these principles there are problems with how to remove keys from an asus laptop keyboard, will not be.

The button is fixed with three or four plastic tendrils in fixed and movable grooves. We primarily pay attention to the fixed grooves. To do this, slightly lift the button and see where they are located. They are often located at the bottom.

If you simply grab and pull the key upward, the tendril-shaped fasteners are guaranteed to break. Therefore, to know how to remove keys from a laptop keyboard proceed as follows:

  • use the curved lid to pry off the bottom edge of the button,
  • carefully remove the latch antennae from the grooves,
  • it is necessary to press half the distance between the antennae,
  • the antennae will come out of the grooves and the lower part of the key will be free,
  • if the key is small, then at the moment the body part is released it will be completely disconnected from the keyboard.
  • If the button does not come off on its own, then we bring the screwdriver under the upper antennae and remove it from the grooves.

Now how to remove a key from an acer laptop Any user knows other models and carries out a similar procedure without any problems.

How to remove the space key from an asus laptop

Using the method presented above, you can remove all the keys of a laptop computer with the exception of spacebar and shift. Such keys have a slightly different fastening system, and accordingly they are removed differently.

As you know, the space bar has impressive dimensions. Therefore, it is fixed not only with antennae, but also with a latch, which is located along the entire length of the button.

You must work extremely carefully and without sudden movements. To do this, we will use a screwdriver, which was previously used to disconnect standard keys. Next to how to reset a key from an asus laptop and not damage it, proceed as follows:

  • First of all, disconnect the metal amplifier on the left side of the space,
  • further on the right side,
  • Now we remove the metal amplifier from the body part of the gap, moving from left to right.

Having released the amplifiers, all that remains is to remove the antennae from the grooves. To do this, we use the same method as with regular keys.

Cleaning the keyboard

As you know, during the use of a laptop, a huge amount of dust and dirt accumulates in the keyboard design. All this negatively affects the performance of the keys. Many users are interested in this connection, how to remove a key from a lenovo laptop to outline the required cleaning. It was already presented above how to remove the necessary keys, and all dust and slush are removed using a vacuum cleaner at minimum power. Remove particles that remain after vacuuming with a toothpick or cotton swab.

You can also wash the keys in soapy water to remove any stuck-on dirt. This point is especially relevant when the keys are clear and all the dirt is very noticeable.

How to remove and reinsert a laptop key

After that like resetting and inserting back the laptop keys the procedure can be considered completed. In one piece, putting the keys in place is a completely simple task and is carried out strictly in the opposite direction.

We put the standard keys in their place and carefully press down the top edge, wait for a click, and then press down the body edge and wait for the click.

We operate differently with the spacebar key. First of all, we fix the metal amplifiers into the grooves of the keyboard base. Next, place the key and press on the top edge, and then on the bottom and wait for a click.

Having removed the latch, slightly raise the keyboard and begin moving horizontally. The main thing is to take your time so as not to damage the keyboard. The last thing left to do is to disconnect the tren. It should be said that the train is an unusually fragile element, so we work carefully.

In general, any user can figure out how to remove a key from an HP laptop. Moreover, such a procedure is quite easy to carry out at home. All that is required is to work carefully, take your time and be extremely careful. So, you are guaranteed to be able to remove and return the keys to the point.

When using a laptop for a long time, and especially not very carefully, problems with the keys often arise. They may be difficult to press, “stick,” or even individual keys may break. The reason for this is the keyboard. To fix such a problem or simply for preventive cleaning of the laptop keyboard, it is not necessary to run to a workshop; you can remove the buttons and clean everything at home.

Unlike old technology, modern keyboards have flat buttons. In most keyboards, the key design is almost the same, consisting of four parts. The upper part, that is, the button itself, is a plate with two grooves and a latch on the bottom side. Two thin levers are attached to it (connected to each other in the central part). The result is a structure in the form of a swing. This design also has four pins that fit into slots on the board of the keyboard itself. The return movement of the key is ensured by a special silicone spring; on its inner side there is a protrusion, which ensures the closure of contacts on the base of the keyboard. To remove the buttons you will need a thin screwdriver, preferably with a curved end, and a toothpick. You must work with the laptop turned off! It is more convenient to start the process of removing keys from the bottom of the keyboard. Work very gently and carefully, without haste or unnecessary effort.

The process itself: use the curved end of a screwdriver to pry up the bottom edge of the key, smoothly and carefully remove the lower levers of the key from the grooves of the keyboard. To do this, gently press on the junction of the antennae - they will come out of the grooves, thereby freeing the lower edge of the button. Often small keys pop out on their own after the manipulation has been done. If not, you can easily remove the top plate of the button with your fingers or tweezers.

The mechanism of the large spacebar is slightly different from the small buttons. It consists of two latches along the edges and an additional reinforcing latch located along the entire length of the key. Therefore, we begin the process of removing the spacebar button by disconnecting the amplifiers on the sides of the button, then remove the amplifiers at the bottom edge of the button (from left to right). And then everything is the same as with small keys.

After completing the process of removing the keys, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse not only the buttons themselves, but also the entire keyboard mechanism. To remove dirt from the mechanism, a toothpick and ear sticks are suitable; the buttons themselves can be washed with soapy water. Be sure to dry all parts thoroughly before assembly!
